[Q] Can I put a new ROM if its not rooted ? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought a new vodafone wildfire and had it sim unlocked
Its on 2.2.1 and hboot is 1.001
So I get the joke, I can't root it
But is there still a way of putting a generic ROM on it ?
If the "old days" you could do it with a gold card.
Does this still work on "2.2.1" ?
many thanks in advance

No, it doesn't. Sorry.

You could try downgrading there is a thread but the issus is there is a possibility of bricking the device so of course be carefully

Indeed .... don't do this.
It's to risky....wait and root if it's possible for u !

u can only update RUU rom.

you could do the S-OFF (security off)in any bigger service with XTC-clip,after that you can root and flash what ever you wish......

I am new to android. I have used WinMob for the last 6 years.
I tried several times with a gold card and the shipped WWE RUU, but failed with a signature error.
I searched but couldn't fine a specific thread on flashing stock RUU for 2.2.1. Can someone plz point me.... Thanks in advance.

Question don't belong in the Development section <---please click link and read....moved to general...

the older days have gone.
none of the processes which worked for eclair wildfire (with older hboot) now work for froyo wildfire.
And till now, on froyo wildfire with hboot 1.01, u cant even get a simple root just for using ROOT ONLY APPS.
what all u can do is WAIT DUDEEEE...................

In a word, Yes.
Another word or two , it is highly recommended you [should] do a FULL-WIPE, if installing a diffident Rom from the one you are using.

[HELP] Debranding Tmobile UK Desire Problems

Hi all
I am trying to debrand my T-mobile desire. I have rooted my phone and removed the security lock. I have also created a gold card and inserted it into the phone.
However when i run the stock HTC RUU it reboots the phone into the boot loader and then gives me an error saying it cant update the rom.
This is now deiving me crazy. As i am a complete noob at flashing android phones.
Any help will greatly appreciated. As i feel it is something i am doing wrong.
Thanks
Jonathan
If you have rooted your phone you don't really need the gold card, as that was a method used to debrand a phone without having to root.
Which method did you use to root your phone?

Not entirely true. I rooted my Desire first then used an ruu but I have to use a goldcard to do it.
To be honest, you don't really need to debrand your phone. Just whack a rom on it.

Yeah I know I can put another Rom on . But at the moment I just want to try the stock HTC Rom.
Make sure you use a pre rooted rom otherwise you could find yourself losing root, could be a bit of a problem too with htc locking down thier phones.
I am not too bothered if it does remove root.
I assume it can be re rooted .
I know there were reported problems over on the android forums from some people losing root & not being able to root again.
Not sure if that was sorted out, could be a good idea to ask around some more to be certain.
You sure the ruu is a complete dl? Have to download multiple times off shipped roms, first few tries are always partials.

Still I am fine with that just need to get the T-Mobile sh*t.off the the phone. As they think it exceptable not to realise Rom updates . When HTC clearly think it is needed.

Downgrading 2.50.405.2 to 1.32 ?

Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-

So,if i'm novice and i don't have s-off with 2.50 only thing i can do is wait for downgrade?is that right?

Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..
Big thanks to you JSL, nice work, and easy tuturial!!
I can see that in /HTC ACE TOOLKIT
is a splash screen changer, and a boot animation changer.. how do i use them?
Cheers guys I will try that downgrade guide. Just a note though. The file fize of the version of HTC Sync for the Desire HD I'm downloading is 66.6MB. I hope that isn't an omen for this to go horrendously wrong

Dont think its possible Teppic74's downgrader wouldn't work on the ARA build, so doubt it will work like this.

You should had to ask this in your mind before flashing an RUU that contain an hboot update!
Go to www.shipped-roms.com and find the froyo RUU and flash it, it should downgrade your hboot and you should be able to root again. If you have a branded desire you’re going to need goldcard.
I you dont know how to Flash a RUU use the search function

Try their irc channel as well. It could be a 'soft' incompatibility, wherein they've disabled it because they havent yet tested it.

I agree as well, but in the meantime there possibly are a few thousand Desire users who want this problem solved. Another possibility is that people who waited for the GB-update want to root after this disappointing update. They also might be potential donators (including me), so please get root for the official GB-update up and running!
Thanks in advance!

So folks here .. does that mean GB upgrade should be done only once i have taken sufficient reviews and made up mind for the same.
Guys is the upgrade not worth it!!! i heard the memory available will reduce to something like 128mb but i heard there are better abilities to move applications to SD card.
Is it true??? is any once facing serious disappointments after the upgarde?
I am kinda waiting for responses !

Well i m looking at installing the Stock GB via RUU from HTC.. which now i dont think will be favourable for me after the responses !
I had contacted the HTC Support to ask the query regarding the downgrade possibility. The support guy has informed that this HTC Stock GB upgarde is some sorta special upgrade and hence it seems they will rollback my device incase i m not happy ..

i was thinking of doing this too, what is wrong with it,why do people not like it,2.3 has a force to SD card function so memory shouldnt be a problem,a review would be great so i can make a decision, does it affect your SMS and MMS like they said it might? and if this does stuff up then how else could i get it rolled back as i live in australia and have no idea where a service center is,i would have to go to my Telstra store to have it sent in which case im not sure if it is covered by warranty?
Service centre for sydney is fonebiz rokdale
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
At the moment there is no way to have it rolled back, it'll change your boot animation so telstra will most likely notice that you don't have their official rom on it therefore voiding your warranty. I think the main reason people don't like it is that once its installed you can no longer root your phone so you're stuck with it. Also, I'm not sure how great the stock force to sd feature would be.
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
i thought my warranty goes through HTC? at least thats what i was told? if its a ROM by HTC why would it void their own warranty? well is it that bad that ppl want to go back to froyo? or is it coz they just want to complain or what? what is the actual difference that makes it a poor upgrade, and how come u dont think the force SD would be good?
Not so great, better to flash custom rom.
