HTC Desire Development

So, for some reason i was just lurking around the Desire forums... they're seriously hurting, they are way behind in terms of development, compared to the Nexus One. Does anybody know why this might be? Since they're basically the same phone, why isn't the Desire (so to speak) neck and neck with the Nexi?
I know that the Nexus One is like the biggest badass of all the phones, and quite frankly i don't know why i'm even asking this, but i'm curious.

Because we have Cyanogen, Kmobs and many other amazing devs

It was the same if you compared the hero with the G1 and Mytouch. I think it's because of the framework of HTC and the HTC phones aren't that open as the nexus. this is why i like my Nexus
I owned a Hero and damn the development on the OS was pathetic the only one who really worked on Hero was Paul (modaco) the others did there best to. but it was nothing i even couldn't put CM on Hero. When the 2.1 came out it was ported to G1 but the hero had to wait, wait for a long time. there where some 2.1 releases for the hero but never worked 100%.

Nexarse one is a half decent phone, wouldn't say it was neck and neck with the superior desire but its ok considering they are similar. The problem is htc. I suspect a deal has been struck between google and htc giving the google phone a slight priority in terms of software release. Either way it don't matter massivley, because if people want froyo on there desire, they can get it. The same as all those nexus one users who wanted sense on there handsets,(but obviously on a lesser phone

What are you, five? "Nexarse" is sure the height of witticism, just like "windoze" and "micro$oft." Sorry, boy, but the two phones are nearly identical except yours doesn't have a noise-canceling mic. Your fanboyism is wasted; it's like stamping your foot and whining that the HTC Hero is better than the Eris when the two are actually the same phone, with identical internals.

An ex-Apple fan by any chance? Your attitude's similar. And I've yet to hear of anyone's trackball falling out, ahaha. "Lesser"? Paul O'Brien recommends a Nexus over a Desire--he's got both--and I'll take his (much more knowledgeable) opinion over an immature fantard's any time.

I personally don't think development is going that badly, you have to remember the nexus one has 4 months over the release of the desire and it not being a world wide release doesn't help, hopefully things will pick up more when it gets official releases in the USA

Easy, the nexus one isn't as locked down as the desire. And because a lot more people have a nexus one.

I would have bought the nexus if it had been available because of the reasons above.
But it wasn't in Holland until now, I really do like Sense and all the fluff it adds, i'm not particularly bothered about banging a Rom onto a new device as far as i can tell it's not broken.

My initial response was to what I ASSUMED was abit of a tongue in cheek question. It got a tongue in cheek response together with my answer. It was simple sarcasm. It appears however the op posted this on the nexus forum and it was moved by moderators. The op probably did not even realize it would end up here. My response was wrong to the Equally disrespectful response that I got and apologize to anyone who saw it.

nexus one and htc desire, pretty much identical hardware wise, the nexus one has a noise cancelling mic, the htc desire has a bit more ram
nexus one runs stock android meaning its highly customizable
htc desire has htc sense which works really well, and is soon to get froyo like the nexus one
the development in the nexus one forums is SO great because youre all trying to get sense on your phones, lets face it it just takes one look at your development section to see that, what does the htc desire ACTUALLY need developed? its already got root, we CAN put whatever we want on, most people dont because it works perfect already. Froyo's readily available from the devs here, IF we want, and anyway we're getting it officially in a few days, so in all honestly, software and development wise, the htc desire wins hands down

The nexi is great but I've noticed an issue with the "nexi." That doesn't seem to effect the desire. If you post a thread on xda nexi forum, the post somehow disappears, somehow reappears elsewhere and a little one liner appears in the subject field that says "MOVED". Its really odd. It happens loads. Go check out there general forums. Software maybe? Hardware? A bug perhaps? Don't know but either way the desire doesn't seem anywhere near as badly "effected."
People are saying this or that's better about either phone, but at the end of the day I wish I'd had got a nexi, in these difficult financial times I could have saved some money.
But anyway, I thank cgrec, but I don't see froyo coming to the desire officially anytime soon. I hope I'm wrong. But I'm convinced that this has everything to do with handshakes in smoke filled backrooms between google and htc, froyo will be a few months away yet.i hope I'm wrong.

so i just picked up one of the GSM Nexus, im going to root soon, but i would like to know what the best Roms out are, the best recovery and the best kernel by your guys opinion? Very excited.

I am really surprised that these and so many other repeated questions get asked without infraction. I came from the SGS2 forums and they watched this kind if stuff like a hawk. I think this is why at times it is hard to keep up with this forum as stuff gets buried so fast because if all the repeated stuff. Just look at how many threads the are on "Burn In"
I will say that everyone is pretty easy going about it all from what I have seen though.

OP, no one can tell you what is best for you. Every phone and user are different. You will need to try some and decide for yourself.

What kind of reception do LG phones...

Get in general on gsm/wcdma bands? Curious because I can't find a lot of info. And anybody previously owned some Motorola or Nokia phones how does LG compare to those? And a bonus question. How well does a Qualcomm WDC9310 sound processor compare to Wolfson 8994 or 1811? I can't find much info on the in-house sound chip Qualcomm, and it was challenging finding that is what is used on their s4 plus soc's.

From before LG had worse signal then Sony Ericson devices.

Its a Galaxy Nexus forum. not a general every nexus forum. I can't find ROMs for the Nexus One, S, or 7 here. Still though, I don't think LG has the best radios.

anyways, i see what you might be looking for, but woudln't a 'better' source of info on LG phones be a LG forum? Be like if I posted on an iphone forum asking what people think of samsung phones

i see your point and thought about it, but as i said before, this is a nexus forum with many people anticipating the next nexus. i am sure many people here are interested in this question. but i digress as everybody else has. a nexus is still a phone at the end of the day.

He may be asking about LG, but at least it's in the Q&A section. On the HTC One XL section they keep putting it all in the General section. HA
Anywho... LG on the Sprint network here is AWFUL! But that might just be Sprint here. My mom never had problems with her LG Shine.

Sprint is awful. Couldn't blame an oem for reception.

That's just sprint. Lol a better candidate would be a LG phone on Verizon or AT&T.

My previous phone was an LG. I used it on this same T-Mobile account. It definitely had a stronger radio than the gnex. But the gnex radio is good enough, and it's a much better phone in every other way.

SIII or Optimus G

Hey guys,
It's finally time to upgrade my old Galaxy S1 Epic (please don't laugh lol), I was planning on waiting for news on the new S4 but nothing solid has come out and my Epic was royally messed up from a game of football.....Note to self - don't play football with a phone in your pocket.
I know I'll probably get some bias comments since I'm posting this in the Samsung forums but I'm hoping for some logic as well. I know in terms of technology, the S3 is on the verge of being out of date. The Optimus G (on paper) looks to be an amazing phone but I know that LG's track record on updates as well as community development has always been lacking.
Would you guys get a S3 this late in the game or the Optimus G and hope for the best in terms of support/development? I can't afford to buy the phone outright so I'll be locked into a 2 year contract with Sprint and will be stuck with this phone for the next 2 years. I played with both phones at the store and they're both pretty cool, but I'll admit that when it comes to phones I am kind of a noob and would rather get honest opinions from people who have the phones and might know more about the future hurdles of it.
oh, the S3 is at Amazon Wireless right now for $50 and the LG Optimus is $99....both great deals imo! So I'm going to need to make a decision soon before the sale is over.

Ill just say this i will never buy an lg phone. This s3 is an amazing device and i have zero complaints about anything regarding this and i have had this since early june.

anyways.. I'd vote for the SG3, mostly just because Samsung will at least try to stay up to date.. While LG always seems to fail in the category..

2 things, battery and sdcard

Thanks eveyone! I posted in the other post as well and got an answer there too. I'm going to go with the S3, even though the hardware is older than the Optimus G, I know that the development community behind it is amazeballs. I had the Epic 4G for awhile but since there were great development groups behind it, I was able to happily use the phone for a long time without complaints. I just can't take that gamble with the LG phone....looks great on paper but I don't want to be stuck with stock for 2 years,
I just got off the phone with Bestbuy and they said they'll price match Amazon Wireless so I'm going to pick one up for $50. Woot!

Answer was sent to OP via PM. However, We still gotta play by the rules either way we go. Overall, choice is going to be down to OP to figure out what they would like to do. So, my opinion may not matter..
I said S3 either way. I agree with post above me, non removable battery and lack of SD expansion is HUGE turn off.

I just don't like lg
Also s3 has the 48gb from drop box
I also like having the option of having Odin fix stuff if they go horribly wrong
Also s3 has a super solid dev community
Idk about the optimus g

This is a valid question - on the one hand, it isn't a big deal to handle the occasional misplaced thread... but on the other hand, just answering the question does nothing to help the OP to ensure that he doesn't make the same mistake twice (which will, in turn, make misplaced threads less occasional and more of a problem)
The important part is for all of us to be careful not to attack each other, or to react to such a reminder as if we're being attacked - if we wanted to start a multi-page argument, it would be more effective to bring up debatable matters of opinion than known facts such as forum rules

Going Back To Note II

So after about 2 months with the ZL I ordered me a Like New Note II on Amazon, Lost money in this:/ should had never switched. Paid 635$ for the ZL and cant even sell it for $500 Not even locally. so I`m in debt for a little til I sell this. The ZL is a GREAT Phone, I just miss the extra .5inch screen and most of all I miss samsung, I never liked Samsungs software but EVERY time I end up getting a different brand of a phone I ALWAYS end up going back to samsung always been like that since the Galaxy S1 haha.

the ONLY reason I wanted to leave was that i Was tired of samsungs software it sucks. I do love Sony`s Software.

Wot? Samsung's software sucks? I wouldn't switch to AOSP just because I'll miss out on Touchwiz functionality.

This is a development site in the Q&A section ( which should be general ) meaning it relates to experiences not solely development. Also subject matter is in direct correlation to the OP. If you feel it is inappropriate content you should direct attention to a moderator, not try being one. /off topic
Maybe more explanation as to why the devices are different and reasons why you prefer one to the other would be more beneficial.
