Basically my Desires micro usb connector is broken and I am sending it for repair on monday.
They only asked for the phone - no battery, back or sd card - so should I return the phone to stock since I'm rooted and s-off.
What would be the best way to do this keeping in mind I can't use usb.
My desire was originally orange branded and is from the uk.
1. Download the Alpharev downgrader.zip and rename it to PB99IMG.zip
2. Orange did not release any RUU's (The things that factory reset your phone), so you will need a goldcard and a WWE (World wide english) RUU.
3. Once you've made your goldcard, extract the rom.zip. To extract the rom.zip:
[PHASE1]- we need to extract rom.zip from the RUU.
[P1/STEP1]- Run the RUU (BUT DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE OR CONTINUE), move it to the side as it cannot be minimised.
[P1/STEP2]- go to start menu, and use the "run" feature. Type in %temp%
[P1/STEP3]- select "date modified" to "today" (to make it easier to find). There are should now be 2 folders with long names of random characters.
[P1/STEP4]- search the folders for rom.zip and extract it to the desktop.
Click to collapse
4. Put the Alpharev downgrader PB99IMG.zip on your the root of your sd-card (not in any folders)
5. boot into HBOOT (NOT fastboot)
6. When you are prompted to update, select yes and wait for the process. Once completed. Poweroff.
7. Rename to rom.zip you extracted to PB99IMG.zip
8. Delete the PB99IMG.zip FROM YOUR SD-CARD, and replace it with the new one
9. Boot into HBOOT and select yes to update. The process takes a while. DO NOT INTERRUPT IT OR YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!!!!!

How can I make a goldcard without usb? I used to have one set up too, wish I knew what I'd done with it.
Edit: I managed to find my email containing my goldcard image from when I first rooted my phone (july 2010!) so I'll try making one with that.

you can get the CID with this (just stick your sd-card in a usb adapter ), because you want the CID of the sd-card not the phone, then just follow this tutorial, and skip the part where they get the CID.
Just a thing to point of with that tool, when you copy down the CID, do it without any spaces or commas... just the numbers/ letters
LOL just made my goldcard and I found my old one sitting right next to me! BTW that site doesn't generate goldcard images anymore http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard

I am currently running SkyRaider3 RC3 with a radio 1.00.03.04.06 which has been modified to permit AP tether. How do I flash the newest 2.15.x radio? Just throw the .zip on the SD root and flash it in Clockwork? I am also S-OFF.
Thank you.
Go Here
Download the file in the first post. Place on root of sdcard, meaning /sdcard/. Reboot phone into hboot. It will automatically detect the update and ask if you would like to apply it. Select Yes and let the update commence.
This will take a very long time. Probably 10 min or so. DO NOT PULL YOUR BATTERY OR DO ANYTHING TO DISRUPT THE UPDATE. I suggest putting your phone down, and leaving it there till it's done.
Also, there is no such thing as a stupid question, your just trying to learn, although a search would have probably helped you out
Thank you for replying :]
Loaded that file onto the root of my SD card, restart into hboot, and while it detects the file, it says something about there being something wrong with the image. I can't read it very well - some messages scroll quickly, then disappear, leaving just the hboot menu. Tried redownloading twice and no difference. Strange.
I assume that I'm not supposed to extract anything from PB31IMG.zip?

Your sdcard has to be formatted FAT32. Back ur sdcard up to ur PC and reformat the whole card fat32. Then put all files back on and try again.

Here is a Mac thread discussing FAT32: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?ac=375750
FAT32 is a format which works with both Macs and PCs - should be very easy is the consensus.
I haven't yet flashed the 2.15 radio - have been doing some bandwidth speed tests on my 1.x radio, and speeds seem very solid... not sure if I should bother with the flash after all...
This is very easy is you have S-OFF. just download the PB31IMG.zip file place on root of SD CARD and boot into HBOOT then follow the steps.

hi everyone,if i may ask how is hboot done and also how to turn s-off
Hi,
While searching for the latest desire radio, I found this RUU.
http :// hotfile.com/dl/79556297/13c71a1/ruu.bravo.froyo.htc.wwe.2.29.405.2.radio.32.49.00.32u.5.11.05.27.release.151783.signed.exe.html
I have no idea who uploaded it. I have not yet tested it. I searched forum for it but nothing came up. Is there anyone using it? Or, can any advanced member check the RUU if it is legit and inform us about the update?
I could not find any link from htc.com to verify file.
Thanks,
yasin
OOoo, interesting
Downloading now, will see what's going on - looks legit though. I've posted it in the Dev forum too for people to look at

Very adventurous of you! To bad about the sense thing : (
I did flash it using the PB99IMG.zip as opposed to HTC Sync and the like as it was quicker...might just go back to my HD ROM, though
What is the benefit of renaming rom.zip in RUU to PB99IMG.zip and updating via it?
Sorry, I am a newbie and I really don't know the difference with flashing with RUU and zip file.
It's more direct, you don't have to faff about with Windows saying it's disconnected, etc...
How do you cut out just the Rom ? I hate RUUs dam Linux sorry I hate Windows only got it on my note book for my unlocking box's

I'll try and get it uploaded this evening when back from work. You need to rename it as it completes resets the phone to stock. You can reroot afterwards, though

If you just get the RUU, extract the ZIP from it and copy it to your sd card you can just do it. No drivers needed bar the generic one to read the sd card

Made a backup of my rom but now the phone wont boot up after rebooting. I cant get into recovery so i cant install my back up. Any ideas people?

try a different micro sd card, the phone might be having difficulty detecting your card hence you cant get to recovery. if that doesn't work. i don't know what will
Thanks for the reply but that didn't work, i can boot into recovery but as soon as i try to select one of the options it just goes to a black screen

Yes. The goldcard is just more needed if you have had a branded phone. With a goldcard you can avoid the cid error when flashing stock rom (aka ruu).
I have S-OFF. I have tried following the directions on: http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html
In Bootloader it won't recognize the PC10IMG.zip file. I had checked the MD5 sum and it checks out perfectly, however it when it will not initialize the install of the file when it runs through its file scan.
Is there another way to install the DZ HBOOT or a way to force my G2 into recognizing the .zip file?
Thanks in advance.

I believe you could flash the .img using fastboot, not sure of the exact command though
2 thoughts
1 - I am assuming it is on / on the sd card
2 - I am assuming that the filename case is exactly that (ie not all caps or all lowercase).
wats your Hboot version?

Yes there is a way using adb. Not sure where it's @ but i think you would just use the xda vision wiki, and substitute the desire hboot in place of eng h-boot in the article. Thats the way we flash the eng h-boot when we initially s-off our devices so i would think that it would work the same for this?
My HBoot is 0.76.2000 (PC1010000).
I'll look into the Wiki and see what I can find. If you guys have any ideas let me know!
Okay, problem solved! I was using a 2GB memory card. I followed GinoAMelone's advice in a different thread and switched to my 4GB card and it Bootloader magically recognizes the PC10IMG.zip. Thanks for all your help guys!
I have the same problem but the culprit is different, it's my own mistakes prior the creation of gold card, btw I use 2Gb Micro SD

once you are that, you can just get the OTA and get up to date or just get it back to stock and ship it out.. no need for OTA

If you truly want to return to stock, including the bootloader, etc, you can fire up the executable RUU from here. That is what I did to return it.

newbie here,
I have 2.3.4 which I will use a tool to downgrade the bootloader and use revolutionary (I promise to research more into this before I do anything ) but I just wanted to verify somethings.
What is the difference between the restore provided in the link first post by OP and the second more detailed post immediately after?
Will flashing the RUU reverse everything including S-OFF and my downgrading hboot (still learning what these terms mean.) Essentially, will it bring everything back the way it was when I first got the phone?
