Just curious - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Could we flash other Themes from other sgs2 variants? OR would we mess something up?

I wouldn't. You can try though, just make a backup and then flash. Worst results would be something between constant force closes to bootloop. Both are easily remedied with a restore of the backup. Ignore the guy below me.

Not a good idea. Different framework. Possibility of messing up your phone so back it up first.

Huh? I've written a number of themes and build.prop has never been an issue. I even ported a few and had one Evo 4G theme work without any changes on the Nexus S. What themes do you use that modify the build.prop?

First off, kid, take a deep breath and stop being butthurt about someone telling you that you're wrong. Second off, as the person in this conversation who has built, ported, modified, and otherwise worked heavily with themes across multiple devices and ROMs I don't have to prove anything to you. Instead why don't you try this: Go into your phone and delete these files:
/system/apps/SystemUI.apk
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
/system/framework/twframework-res.apk
(PS I suggest you do a backup first).
Here is what will happen: Massive force closes and force reboots. You've basically just deleted the whole Android visual interface. Those files, the ones I just told you to delete, those are the ones a TW-based-theme will replace (including maybe a few other apps like the search bar or facebook). If they are replaced with incompatible versions, you will either bootloop or get massive force closes on boot. You will not brick.
In summation: Don't be a whiny, know-it-all child, and don't correct people who clearly know more about a topic than you.

So basically I should try it?

[Q] Stock Froyo Browser

Any chance of getting the stock Froyo browser working on the most recent Froyo leak? I don't mind Sense, but I really prefer the stock Android browser.
I grabbed the Browser.apk from CM6 and tried it out, but it force closes when it starts. I looked at the logs, and there was an error about not being able to find the method com.android.webkit.WebSettings.showZoomControls or something like that. I'm assuming it's something to do with a different version of webkit, but I'm still sort of an android noob and I'm not sure how I'd go about replacing that (and what it might break, heh)

Please re-read the OP. He is clearly asking feasibility of a stock browser port. NOT a skin.
On another note, I'm really starting to get annoyed by your meaningless posts. I could show you at least 5 posts in the last week similar to this one. "I could do this", "I can do that for you". Yet no deliverable, as usual. Stop bumping your own threads with meaningless info, and stop making false promises. Less talk, more walk.

Getting back to the question, I tried replacing core.jar with the one from CM6, but that just got me a boot loop. It sounds like I'd have to replace individual classes in core.jar, specifically WebSettings at least. Is that something Metamorph would be able to do? Would I be better off asking in the CM6 thread in the development forum?

[Q] *Epic Developers&All, Please Read*

I don't know how many devs work with the Epic's Framework, but this much I do know; If certain Frameworks from other devices, such as the 'HTC Sense' Framework's widgets are restricted to having that framework, who says we can't edit Touchwiz's Framework or perhaps, creating an app in order to Spoof other frameworks, make it a running process, and therefore, fooling widgets from other devices onto our epics? If any devs see hope in this, count me on board and I'll try and make this a reality, I just can't do it alone. Who's in?
No. I'm not gonna be the forum rentacop, but don't title ur thread something like that. EVER. Everyone has important info to share, urs is not special.
On thread, I'm pretty sure someones though of this one time or another. The dev's are not stupid. I'm pretty sure there's propriety software/modules/idk that the frameworks depends on. Its not as easy as opening wordpad and replacing "com.htc" with "com.samsung" or whatever they may be.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Hm, perhaps you're right, either way. It was titled that way because I was offering to lay my cards down and commit to making it happen with the help of dev gurus. If they wanted to know my programming background, they would indeed be filled in on it. Thank you for your input though.

Sense requires way more than just the framework to make it work. There are also driver dependecies that are required. In essence in order to port as you say, the 2 devices would have to have the same or simular device drivers which would mean having same or simular hardware which is why Sense 3.0 could be ported to the evo4g but not the epic.

I'm very sorry but I think the point is being missed here. I'm not asking or suggesting a Sense port. Only a spoof in Touchwiz's Framework, or add-on coding in order to trick widgets from other frameworks.

If you read his post you definitely didn't comprehend it.I'm not going to type what he said all over again, all that matters is that what you want is not going to happen. It's either full port or nothing at all.
No.. I did comprehend it.. he did say more than framework was needed for a PORT I'm not looking for a port kid. I think it is you and the other poster who did not understand me, or ignorantly is choosing not to. Allow me to fix that by editing my original post even mentioning a port, as it was just that, a mention of ports and rules that follow it.

Kid? That kind of condescending attitude will not win many friends on these forums or in life.
The point is, you aren't going to be able to "spoof" sense to get sense widgets working. If you are so certain you are right and everyone is wrong then feel free to work on it but don't say we didn't warn you.
You weren't quite polite yourself. Lol. I guess I'll have to take a stab at it, because I believe this method to be overhyped as 'impossible.' cheers.

Actually I did understand that. My point is that you still need driver support to make the widgets receive the information they require to operate properly even if you are just trying to spoof the widgets.
My goal is to simply get the widget spoofed on there, as for the drivers etc, I'll worry about that later, nobody can deliver a product that's 100% finished.

Theres a couple parts to the framework. Framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk and framework.jar.
Also the ui (touchwiz, sense, miui, motoblur) relies on those 3 files and things can be traced all the way to the kernel.
You need a direct port and that ain't easy. Theres no hacking around it

[Q] ICS ROM's that have a 5-Bar Signal Indicator

So... Does it bother anyone else that the AT&T based ICS ROM's come out with a non-working 5th-bar in the signal indicator? I don't code (would love to figure out how to code), but I am sure this isn't easy to ask... but is there anyway to get one of 2 things to work within those ICS ROM's??? 1. Make a 4-bar TMO stock/ICS themed signal indicator... or.... 2. Make the damn 5th bar just work...? This may be the dumbest request ever made by a member, but I am a purist and just want things to work the way they are designed within ROM's. Stock sucks, but perfection is better.. If anyone catches where I am going with that... Its just annoying to look down and realize you have full service, but the ROM is not coded to reflect that...
Just a thought.
Thanks for reading.

HC-kTool ( a diamond in the rough )

Hi. Just thought that the app kTool by HellCat doesnt get enough attention. I honestly thought it was something that everyone has but have learned that a lot of people dont even know about it. Here are uses:
Dump current kernel for quick zImage backup,
flash a /sdcard/zImage immediately and seamlessly.
Backup/restore EFS.
Install (up to) .efs+modem.bin+zImage in homemade update.tar instantly
Verify efs backup integrity.
Reboot to system, recovery, or download mode.
Simple yet effective user interface. Very user friendly.
I have been using this app for several months. Hell, all year. Its fantastic. Ill post a link in a moment.

Edit: i then realized after posting all that that my slack had been picked up,
Thanks.
Oh, I also heard nobody rocks a custom boot logo but me, =/ I hope thats not true, but if you need
Note:Will not work by itself on ICS, I didnt have it on GB so Im not sure on that..
Also by hellcat (not sure, Rain, probably. He's awesome)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.sgs2bootlogo
Pick your desired boot or charge screen image, crop it to your size
Press "Set As (whichever...)" THEN
This app isnt programmed for ICS on our variant, but it gets the job half done.
You will now have a ".lfs.tmp" on "/sdcard." Make a copy of your desired boot logo called "gaudi_bootimage.jpg" and overwrite the one in ".lfs.tmp"
Now you simply remove the ".tmp" from the name and merge it with "/mnt/.lfs"
Enjoy, it took me a while to notice this little workaround.

[Tutorial] How to change Build Number (((ROM NAME)))

Hey guys from the help of my very good friend Azuzu I am creating a little tutorial on how to change the ROM Name or Build Number on your T989.
This might work on other devices but I have only tested it on the T989.
If you follow this guide you agree that you are doing thing on your own and you take full responsibility for any damage that may come to your device.
###################################
Prerequisites:
Rooted - With SU Permissions
RootExplorer is recommended for file browsing with SU permissions.
Android SDK Installed - Google how to install it
Samsung Drivers - Check other posts or just google them
USB Debugging Enabled
Notepad++
####################################
Once you have all the pre's done go to command prompt and type the follow:
adb pull system/build.prop
>It will save your build.prop and now find it and open it with Notepadd++
> Edit line 4 "ro.build.display.id="
Make it what ever u want it to be: ro.build.display.id=Name Ahhh
Then click save...
Mount your phone to the computer and place the build.prop in the sdcard.
Unount and open RootExplorer
Find the file and click and hold until you get to copy.
Copy it and put it in the system folder. If done right it should ask you to overwrite it.
Then go back to command prompt and do the following
adb shell
su
//You should be asked for permissions by your phone Hit allow
# mount -o,remount /system
# chmod 0755 /system/build.prop
# reboot
Dont put the hash or the space after it. Just the text.
Once you reboot go to about and you should see what ever name you changed it to.
Why would you want to do this unless you want to take credit for someone elses work? Just curious

Did you add bln support? No you just changed a few things and then put your name on it..and anyway you don't even see the info unless you manually go into settings and look it up so no one would see that unless you showed it to them which makes it look even worse.....why would it matter what it was called in the settings?

Does it matter if I change the dialer??? Absolutely not!
If you had bag with 5 coins and add 1 now you have a bag with 6 coins. Now lets see if the bags are different:
Bag 1 -
1 Bag
5 Coins
0.85LBS
Bag 2-
1 Bag
6 Coins
1.00LBS
So now tell me how these two bags are the same....Oh wait that's right they are not the same anymore.
Ok enough with the silly examples...
Now if you have, or maybe you do, a Honda Civic.
You add RIMs, Radio, New Air Intake, Tints, HIDs, and a new air freshener. And you remove about 100LBS of weight of the body.
Now is that car stock?
Drum rolls someone............................................
Answer = Nope....
So if you put DJIDK's JDM Ride on the back instead of Honda Civic, does that mean you are stealing the work of the Japanese who built the car????
I don't think so. That means you have customized your car to your liking and gave it a name you thought it deserved after you did a bit of changes.
SOooo Lets get back to the Samsung Galaxy S2 T989 - T-Mobile.... Just making sure you remember the phone exactly...Wouldn't wanna steal Samsungs hard work and call it the Sam 989 u know....
So if I want to change and flip the back cover and maybe put pink little hearts as my app icons, then call it Roketteere's Pinked out T9er that does not mean I am stealing anyone's work. Nor does it mean I want to take credit for anything...
If you didn't like my simple tut, which yes I know it can be done faster via rootexplorer.apk (Thanks 2 the 2 guys for the info), then don't read it and post anything negative about it. Unless I intentionally put something to tell everyone to rename all the ROMs and post them on XDA or whatever site as their own no one should be accusing me or anyone else who does this to be doing something wrong.
Well thanks to you my fingers now hurt from typing with a bit of anger...
I hope my keyboard is ok...Hmm :fingers-crossed:
Well Im done with that...Have a good night spirit fingers :silly:

It's not about stock or not you are changing the name...the coins are still not made by you so you would not call them David coins and the Honda civic is still a Honda civic..not made by you either..so you wouldn't call it a David civic...get it
Edit...I'm sure every dev on here would agree...and you still haven't answered me....what's so important about a name, no one is going to see?

If I feel like calling my Chevy Suburban, LoopDogg Suburban and get a custom chrome sign and replacing the suburban sign with it, who the F' cares. Anybody who see it will know the truth. If he would start a thread and claim it, then that will be an issue.

That is stealing...you did not build the rom...changing boot animation, uninstalling system apps and tweaking some settings are something everyone could do to any rom... i mean really, any end user could do those things... what kernel source did you compile?did you zip align or deoxed? Did you add bln support? No you just changed a few things and then put your name on it..and anyway you don't even see the info unless you manually go into settings and look it up so no one would see that unless you showed it to them which makes it look even worse.....why would it matter what it was called in the settings?

so you think his name is ahhh. There's a reason he put this in general, it's just a little theming is all. It may be pointless but the guy isn't claimingto have built anything and it isn't Rom specific. Name it peter juice or something.

Why keep it to myself. XDA is all about sharing and helping one another. So no I'm not going to keep this to myself. Like the other member said I'm not posting this to claim something that's not mine. I'm claiming to call my phone what ever I decide to call it and if you want to do the same then this is the tutorial for you. If not then move on.
It's like you wanna hijack a perfectly harmless thread and make it about something else then what it literally means. Are you going to bash me if my signature said "Sent from Roketteere's Cool iPad using TT H-Dee"
Is that stealing too?
