So I've done the whole search thing, and XDA now offers a cool display of related threads when I start a new one...but I haven't found something related to Cyanogen Mod 7.1 for our variant of the GSII.
I hesitate to flash cyanogen because 1. it's not stable anymore (according to their forums), and 2. our model of the GSII is arguably not like any of the other GSII's because we have a different chipset.
Had anyone tried to flash cyanogen mod onto this phone or does someone know that it works?
Thanks in advanced!
10-22-2011 EDIT: So people don't need to sort through the clutter, the answer is no there isn't CM7.1 for the T-Mobile variant of the GSII and no one should attempt to flash the one from cyanogenmod's website for the GSII.
Thanks for answering my questions!
Cyanogen mod roms are built specifically for each device. Don't ever try to flash a build from another device. Even the ATT and International galaxy s2 have differently builds even though they're pretty much the same phone

I believe CM isn't even available for our phone yet. Only for the other SGS2 models.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
DO NOT attempt to flash roms that were not specifically made for our devices! The ONLY roms that are safe for the TMO GS2 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1332
Thanks for the information. I thought that would be the case.

None of the unlock solutions from the market work on our devices. If you are a T-Mobile customer, you can call in and request the unlock code, otherwise you can get it by faxing in your sales receipt. There is a good discussion of the topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18643213

My statement was in reference to the GSII only. Users reported too many bugs...but again that's not for our GSII.
If you check their forum there is no more "stable mod" link to 7.1 for the GSII.
The mytouch4g should be fine.

I apologize to you if my question was naive. At least I didn't go posting in the developer forums.
The development seemed active enough for this device that I was considering there was a chance of availability. I'm also not rushing or demanding anything from the developers/developer community. I also give thanks and donate to them.
Other's have graciously answered my question, and to them I say THANKS.

Treat him nicely! Nagging will only de-incentivize him to work on it. Just be content we haven't forgotten about the Tmo SGSII.
Brint Kriebel originally shared this post:
Since word seems to have spread: Regarding the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 (T-989). Yes, I have one and yes, I will be trying to get a stable CM9 build running on it.
Fair warning that this can only be a spare time task for me right now and I have a lot of priority projects right now, so it likely won't be quick. If anyone out there would like to help, that is great - let me know. Otherwise, I will do what I can.

a) you have to login to a google account for that link
b) there is code to actually make it into a link ,use the globe with link button
c)see a) is this the same post as the other cm9 thread
For those that can't see it. It reads:

this poll regards DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT ONLY.
I would like to know whether you feel happy or not with the development support your device got. (compare it to the international gs2 deving, or the att gs2 if that helps to make things easier) Do not read this poll as something that intends to start a flaming war. I am little bit confused which version of the gs3 to keep for myself and since I have not followed what was going on with the tmobile gs2 and the intl gs2 dev forums, I decided to make this thread asking your sincere (hopefully) opinions again vote on the basis of dev support only!

It's up for debate. GS3 hardware is supposed to be standard across all carriers. You shouldn't have a problem. Imo if you want the best value and best data speeds go with tmobile.
I'm unsure what the specs for the international is but I believe they're all the same.

sorry for the confusion. maybe I did not explain myself right. I want an opinion about the dev support only. the specs are something the users know before buying the device. the dev support is something they find out later on once they have bought the device lol and sometimes they are happy but other times they are not. from what I can see you guys had some great devs!
Very happy. We have several great devs, TDJ, and Whitehawkx to name a few. Plus some great themers, foreverloco, and pheonix!! No gripes here!!

The problem is you cant predict that for the GS3 since they are standard across carriers but international is still international. The s2 support isnt comparable because its a totally different fragmentation situation

Unfortunately they are not standard. And yeah intl will always get the best development but nevertheless at the end all you need is 5 good roms. Intl got 20 roms or more but users know that half of them are just a minor modified version of the stock rom.

They are closer than the s2. Its a personal choice, it seems you already know intl-> more devs. Carrier -> more compatible with your network. Nobody can decide for you what to value more.

In case it helps, I have an up-to-date Galaxy Note 2 ROM list kept here, which includes the T-Mobile model.
Someone was asking for a list in the AT&T section, so I thought I'd post this info in each section to tell people.

Thanks for for maintaining this list! Is there any way to tell which ROMS support TMO WiFi calling? This is a must-have feature for me. I'm assuming none of the AOKP/AOSP roms do.
AOSP won't. Has to be a tmobile base rom. Usually anything in the tmobile forum based on 4.1.1 is a safe bet for WiFi calling. You can always ask in that thread to confirm, or preferably read and figure it out.

Things are rarely that simple, not because cherry picks don't work, but because some people are in different circumstances than your own. My current phone is a HTC One running a stock kernel, and without more sources custom kernels and ROMs are something of a tricky business right now. I prefer stock when possible, so an Xposed-style framework patch is a good way of "cherry picking" what I would like in a workable manner.
Great that you're sharing the news, but you posted in every thread already and now opened a thread in dev section =/

My two cents...I know goast from the forums, and he is an advanced user and a great resource to me. He's obviously pumped up about halo, and rightly so (it's a pretty amazing innovation by PA team). I'm not attacking anyone, but I like to stay informed about new things, so I appreciated his blast out. Many devs here work demanding jobs, and donate their personal time to development, so this info may help them in this fragmented crazy fast paced world. I just wanted to thank goast for the info, and impart some positive energy here. I'm not a dev, nor am I an expert, but I share goast's passion for android and desire to learn more about it. To me, that's why I love xda...I have a commercially dead device that is still extremely viable thanks to all of the great work here. Ok, I'm done...everybody enjoy halo!
