ICS General Discussion Thread.

I've Made this thread in par with the [Dev-only] ICS development only thread so that all questions,comments and or even THANKYOUS can be posted here. Please do try and keep this thread alive without any idiocy (spam). DO NOT post in the Dev thread u less u have actual development. It doesn't matter how argue-mental the post become as long as it still always is related to ICS. As long as everyone just stops making new threads about ICS.

I will update this op with any Information regarding our phone and ICS whenever it comes available.

What can I do to help the devs working on this project?

I'm starting to think his phone won't get it. Hell the old Droid got it and we have hardly anything going on for this phone.

According to someone of a dev level ICS is extremely close so just be patient.

I don't necessarily understand it. I've used ics and it's pretty good, but the roms we currently have in the dev section are really awesome. Yeah, ics has some great tweaks that I look forward to coming to this device, but I'm pretty content and happy with the current roms and development we have. Thanks to all the devs!

Im sure they dont want to give us something half done. Wait till they have a stable build then they will drop it.

Call me what you want. I have the money to get a pics phone. I just don't want it. I have ICS on my zoom. Also don't make a thread about discussion of ICS if you don't like hearing others opinions.

I'm pretty sure they will release a ICS update for it. The community will more than likely release one first though.

Samsung will have one, but it will have TouchWiz. But a lot of us want either pure ICS or a CM9 build, ya know?

The only reason im waiting ics for my epic is native otg support..

Tmobile gs3 are screwed

My understanding is that devs will go with att gs3 since that includes canadian owners as well..does it mean tmobile gs3 deving will be dead?

No, all the innards are the same save for the radio, you're good

Actually, I think you are wrong. The two phones are very similar, but I highly doubt you can "use the att roms" on a T-mobile GS3 as easily as you make it sound. There are probably still differences in drivers which would prevent doing what you stated.
The OP had a good point.
Watch this video to get a better insight.

Don't you realize there are devs that are loyal to their carrier for one reason or another? Usually service/support/coverage...
I don't see how you can conclude that T-Mobile will get left in the dark. You have roman and whitehawx for crying out loud.

There has already been a multiple carrier rom release done by uoy_redrum for AT&T and TMobile. The dev/rom is off of TMobile and from what I see works just fine on AT&T. The only compatibility errors that I've heard of thus far is that the ICON that lets you know what type of data connection you are on stays on 3G. So yes, AT&T and TMobile Devs can make their roms universal.

Wait two months and you will understand the point of this thread. I really do hope tmobile gs3 deving is amazing because I got that phone too, but from experience I can say that there are chances it will be left in dark. Hope I am proven wrong! And yes roman is a great dev feel blessed having him and nope att roms dnt work on tmobile gs3

That is really ignorant/rude to say, alot of people would be that way if they knew they were about to be broadcasted out to YouTube and the android nerd community. Besides he is the Creator of CyanogenMod and all their holiness lol, he's a nerd that is usually behind a computer, not a public speaker. This thread is becoming very pointless sadly.

I would suggest doing more research on roms and the support on them before you start wining about the lack of development on individual carriers. Yes you can make the rom "Universal" in that in will work for multiple carriers/US devices. As I said, view the two roms that uoy_redrum has made as an example and you will see what I am referring too.

Can you at least do some research before you post things. There are ROMs that work on both T-Mobile and AT&T he never said that you could flash ROMs built specifically for AT&T on T-Mobile without minor changes. They are already working on making all gs3 ROMs universal.
Also, in response to your first post there are multiple Canadian providers that have to use T-Mobile ROMs and I don't know what phone you had before on T-Mobile with ****ty deving but i came from the Vibrant and we had and still have awesome devs.

previous vibrant owner here. we have some fuckin AMAZING devs on that phone. can't thank them enough. and I can already tell that t-mob sgs3 devs are going to do an outstanding job. I see threads of people from other carriers flashing t-mob roms and mods already on these forums lol. i have no doubt in t-mob development.

Whitehawkx does not own a T989.
With JB, AOKP is starting fresh, building the code from the ground up. With no member on Team Kang owning a T989, our JB prospects looked dim. You can read what our future would have been like here.
A lot of people talked about doing something. A lot of people talked about donating to a pool for WHX to get another T989. One person did it. You can read about his decision here.
You can read about the result here.
Not only does this radically affect AOKP, this also affects CM and other AOSP variations. All the teams collaborate together on this.
In the end, this isn't about bringing a new version of software to our phones so it can do 1001 things instead of 1000. It's about giving and giving back. Jangst123 and WHX have given to us. Let's give back. Round of applause for these two and every other dev and good person on these forums. It's not all bad

The AOKP decision wasn't a surprise with milestone 6+. I honestly don't know why they would even carry devices they don't have to troubleshooting. It's just common sense to me.

Regardless I've never HAD to pay for any Rom I've flashed. Should there be a limit for how many phones are donated to any dev? Developers provide a free service in their free time.... for all us addicted flashaholics.

no it isnt that simple. as stated 50000000000x before, we are CDMA, they are GSM and so is the international version. because they are both GSM they are much much more simple to port.

I told him to have some patience because he asked the same question already. Everyone should know that CM10 is the catalyst for every other AOSP rom. So yea, have some patience.

[Help] [WIP] Sense on S3

First of all this is a project im looking for any help to get our devices to boot sense please refrain for telling me it is not possible that i sould have gotten an htc phone if i wanted sense. I wanna live in the xda way and develop for our phones which have better internal specs then the htc phones for our carrier. Also i would like to see our phones run diffident flavors of android. Please don't tell me its not possible i have a ics rom port in alpha already i've gotten to the boot animation and it locks up i have both the logcat and rom to prove it. Im looking for help within my forum to get it running.

So, what exactly do you need?

Any help im a complete noob on how to develop im learning as i go along see if someone can kinda help me kinda understand the logcat im honestly surprised ive gotten to this point.

Have you look the sense4all projet? There is already a rom working for the internationnal GS3 (SO DON'T FLASH THIS ROM). Maybe you can try to port that one.
Also our phone have the same processor than the canadian HTC One X, maybe you can go in that direction.

Actually that is what i was waiting for. Then i got impatient so i thought to try my luck im actually using the att one x as a base same proccesor

If youre a "complete noob" as you stated, might not be the best idea to start with a project like this...just saying

I'm sure Thomas Edison got some good laughs when talking about the light bulb too. You don't know him or know what he's capable of; nor will you ever find out with this attitude. I envy his will to learn, and to take on a big challenge like this. I don't envy, I even despise attitudes like this that try to put people down who are attempting to do great things. To OP: even if you do fail at this, with the attitude you have, you will do great things.

One has gotta start somewhere, I started with ports.
To OP, try porting AOSP/AOKP ROMs from a similar device (like the other SGS3 variants). Those are way easier to port and will give you a chance to learn the basics.

There are ways to train and become better at things. Would suggestions have been better than simply stating that it'd not go well... Yes. And coming here to help where there are experienced devs is good hopefully their guidance will be enough to get him on the right track with this project and if not maybe he can start out smaller and build to this project.

I mean lets be realistic has sense ever been ported completly stable to a non htc device before? Dont go swimming in deep waters if you dont know how to, start off shallow then work your way up.
Being real about the situation might seem harsh but it is what it is......but if he does have some sort of coding skills than by all means do whatever
