I'm using a different cable, I've tried different ports, and no SD. Any suggestions?
This is a common noob mistake, but make sure you're flashing via pda, NOT Phone.
Just double checked, I'm pretty sure I was using PDA before, but just in case I redid it. Same thing tho... stuck at cache.rfs
Differnt USB ports that's what helped me
that epic be a sendin
Try another tar. That one might be bad or it was a bad download. Grab EC05 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
That was it. I redowned Odin and the driver, but didn't think about the tar.
Thanks for the help!

I'll take a look at what version I have, I know its not spanking new, but I totally trust you on this one, I can relate when I was rooting my cousin's boost mobile android phone, I followed a guide entirely, but rooting failed entirely because it wasn't the exact version number of odin that was on the guide, lol.

odin get all the way to modem.bin and then it gets stuck. any ideas on how to get it to progress tried different roms and i'm using a non samsung usb cable.
I'd try a new USB port and cable or make sure your USB is clean just typical precautions. Try resdownloading or reinstalling your drivers. Kinda obvious things .... sorry
Ignore wait for someone smarter I doubt these help

Hmm ec05 sometimes things take a while are you sure your download is complete its like 290mbs and are you doing it properly only auto reboot checked. If you are then id say give it like 5-8 minutes if it hangs then try another usb port and keep on it hopefully it will kick it in there. Just to make sure your using the victory pit file and have the pda checked and the ec05.tar in the file right?

It still may be a bad download. Why not come up to EI22? Odin this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340385
Then Odin the EC05 modem tar seperately here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123103
And then flash the EC05toEI22 modem zip.
---------- Post added at 09:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 AM ----------
Also try it with the battery and sd card out. Odin works better that way. Use the computer as the power source. Connect it then put it into download mode.

Try Heimdall.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
This happens to me once in a while. Just switch usb ports. ALSO AVOID USING THE EXTENDED USB PORTS!. Those are the ones in the front off the PC case or on the side. Use the ones directly from the motherboards, meaning use the ones in the back off the pc case. Restart your PC also. If those 2 fail, buy a new usb cord. Also, ive had odin stay at modem forever but pulling the battery out and booting the phone and all is ok. Weird. But happens.

Look at Post 2 in this thread for Heimdall instructions. It is much better once you get the hang of it. And you can remove the modem.bin and flash everything else:

So now we know for sure there is somethng up with the modem on your phone. Try any other modem from this thread. Just pull the modem.bin out and use Heimdall to just flash that:

Try to get the EC05 modem in then use the EC05toEI22 modem update script in CWM.

Why ACS Recovery? That's very out of date.
Like Kenny already suggested, use another cable.
I would also suggest doing everything in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13245831
Then follow my guide in the General stickies or google qbking77's video on how to root samsung epic on FC09.

Thank you all for you reply.... I have tried two diff cables, none of them came with the phone. i have one more i think but it has copper showing and am afraid to use it. im going to ask some family if they have some i can borrow.
As for as the recovery, I dont care witch one, that one was on the forum for EI22 rooting, bc thats the one I have. Its old sprint rom but i figure it would have been easier to root then the newer OTA.
So besides using a differant cable is there anything else. Just wondering why i would follow your rooting method for FC02 if im not on that build?
The FC09 root method is universal
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
EI22 and FC09 root method are the same because they're both Gingerbread. You need to use ODIN to root.
Gingerbread requires ODIN to root for our device, whereas Froyo did not.
You want to be on FC09 because it was the last official code release. It's obviously not necessary to be on the latest code release, but is recommended. Now, you could go the other way and flash CM or any CM derivative.
Good cables can be found on eBay, Amazon, or Monoprice and for surprisingly cheap.
I'd recommend getting the up to date version of CWM for our device, or you can flash TWRP. All found in the dev forum. As for ROMs, try all the FC09 and CM derivatives out to see which fits your needs/style.
Thank you. I did the fix for semi brick and it worked great. Same cable too. Then I flashed ICS ROM. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOU'RE HELP.....

Can you post a link to what you've downloaded so we can look at it?
Did you try flashing just the 1 ROM, if so which?
Did you check the MD5 to make sure the ROM downloaded okay?
I'd check the md5 1st , you should get in the habit of doing that for anything you'll flash.
Also thanks for moving this to the q&a we appreciate it.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
According to the file you have said you downloaded you want the epic touch section, not the gs3 section....
Make sure you're using a good data cable and not the one that came with the phone, check md5! Also, it can take a while sometimes so make sure you're giving it enough time, if it takes more than 15 mins, something is definitely wrong... posting in the correct section may get you more help though... good luck

You are lucky that failed. If's the wrong modem for your phone. Flashing that could have killed the device. At best it would have soft bricked it and you would have had do an Odin flash back to stock.
Be very careful what you try to flash. The i9505 is very similar to the T Mobile model but it's not the same. The ROM's are mostly interchangable but the modems and recoveries and kernels and stuff like that aren't. You absolutely need the T MObile specific versions of those kinds of things.
The thread Okcxb linked for you is your salvation. It shoudl work fine. But be careful in the future with what you flash.
