I have the black blotches, a dead red pixel, and the vertical lines (which, btw, were somewhat present on the "good" screen of my MT4G)
But I have no problems with the battery.. no random reboots, great speaker quality (both media playback and phone calls) and the phone flies.
I definitely WANT to return it and get a "good" screen.. but I'm hesitant because I'm thinking I may end up with a phone that has some other issue, like the reboots/battery/overheating or any number of other unknown issues..
I do feel I should have a flawless screen if I'm paying hundreds of dollars for a phone.. I mean the whole point of the SG2 is the screen really, that's they key marketing point they are pushing on it, and that's really what initially drew me to it.
It's aggravating when I'm trying to watch something in the dark and I can see these black blobs and lines...
but I'm also happy with the phone's performance.. tough decision
What would/did you do?
Return it

I would return the phone, but return it after Samsung brings in some new batches. You might turn it in and waste your time and get another with the same problem.

If I were you, I would go ahead and exchange. You have too many issues to not and keep the phone and regret it later. I had a small situation of the right side of my screen not being flushed with the casing and I decided to just keep it. The other issues I have seen on the forum make me worried that if I exchange I will end up with a bunch of other issues that I don't want. The one that gets me the most is the vertical lines and the 100% battery bug. None of these issues are on my phone and I want to keep it that way.
I also saw someone mention the issue with the ground on the charger. I saw this first hand at the t-mobile store. The phone was doing phantom presses and I wasn't even touching the phone. I asked the rep about it and of course she had no clue. I unplugged the charger and everything was fine.
It's always a risk to exchange with any type of phone.
Well my suggestion would be to exchange it.
I got mine on the release day. All looked good and i was back home. I made a call and realized that i'm getting this low buzz noise on call when the other person speaking. tried couple of diffrent calls, checked on IVR's but it was constantly there. Went to T-mobile store next day, showed it to the rep, he opened the phone and pushed the SIM card in and said it is because the SIM was not properly inserted. I called and it was not there (coz there was music going on in the store so did not felt it) but before leaving i though i'll give it a try again and called the T-Mobile care number. Bingo...as soon as the IVR started the buzzing was there...showed it to the rep, he talked to the store supervisor and she also listened and immediately replaced my phone. Checked the other one...and no buzzing sound at all with the volume all the way to up. So go ahead and replace it before u run out of time.
I'm on my second SGS2. Exchanged the first one because of the lines. This one has the lines, but not as bad, but it has had a couple of reboots. Went to exchange for a third and was told no by the store manager. She told me that she can't keep doing exchanges because it costs her store money. Not my problem, I told her. I paid full price for the phone, I want one that is as close to perfect as I can get and since I'm in my 14 days, I'm allowed to exchange because my device is defective. She still told me no and said that exchanges are at the stores discretion and she said I can't get another exchange. I will be filing a complaint with T-Mobile about this.

Yes, this is a legitimate question, and your analogy is far off. Let me help you.
If every car out there typically has some set of known problems (like every cell phone pretty much does, from HTC to Samsung to LG, etc) then a leaky water pump might not be that bad if say, many of the other vehicles have a bad engine or are known for random blowouts while on the freeway.
Then all of the sudden that leaky water pump doesn't seem so bad.. especially when you HAVE to have a car (phone), so it's not like you can just say "effit, I'm not buying any of them until they get it right"
So then the only option you have is to decide which flaws you're willing to live with, or keep returning it until they actually refuse to do business with you. And yes, that does happen...
Just exchanged mine in-store. New one has a MUCH better screen.. barely noticeable verticals and no black blotches or dead pixels..
Now I just have to make sure EVERYTHING else works right... headphone jack, camera, Bluetooth, Wifi, Data, etc...
I think this one's going to be a keeper though. Seems pretty solid so far.
Just exchanged mine today same manufacture date 9/28/2011, this one is far better barely noticeable vertical lines and definitely no blotches on the screen!
Lucky you guys... My first one had the vertical lines so I traded it in and the second one is much worse : (. I've noticed that it also has the random reboot issue too. It was a 9/28/11 batch.
My first one had very noticeable vertical lines. My second one has them but not nearly as bad. But, the new one does have a white spot in the screen and there are words somehow etched on the inside of the screen, almost like they are burned in. So just weigh the pros and cons of swapping, you could end up with something worse.

I'd totally return it or exchange it if it had blobs. I've seen them 1st hand on 1 of the 6 I've tested. You do need to realize that these screens all have the lines to and extent. So just get one you can live with without the blobs and move on. I'm super picky but have realized that there's no escaping the lines.
1/6 didn't have that many lines and it ended up getting a stuck red pixel, so I just exchanged till I found one that had the lines evenly spread and not just bunched up in one corner.
Also, with testing 6 of them, I also noticed that some of them would display heavy lines with a certain wallpaper while others wouldn't. Yet the others would display heavy lines with a different wallpaper while the others wouldn't. Trust me, I fully tried all I could to get a perfect one and that's the reason I tried 6 and did different wallpapers.
The blobs aren't as common as the lines and you'll more than likely get a blob free one with the exchange.
Good luck and sorry for the lenghty post.
Side note: Here's the best wallpaper I've found to check for lines and blobs. Something about the color combo of this wall makes the stick out.

As you might imagine I'm not very happy about this. Granted it's my fault for dropping it on tarmac, but it seems a bit much that the display shatters the first time I do. I loved the build quality of my HTC Incredible S. I've dropped that thing so many times on all kinds of surfaces and the screen is as flawless as the day I got it. In fact I might switch back to that until I figure out what to get to replace the One X.
I don't know what to do now. There are so few Android phones worth buying, and I thought the One X was one of them. I'd love to get the One S, but my eyes hate PenTile screens. I hope this PenTile fad goes away soon.
sorry to hear that. I will be even more careful with my HOX!
Does HTC offer any replacement service?
And I flipped when I woke up to my One X wedged between the bed and the wall. That's terrible.

I'm happy if I can be a warning beacon for others I doubt there's any replacement service considering it was my fault. I'd happily pay to have it repaired, but I don't think that's offered. Nothing I can find anyway.
I also dropped my one x, two tines on tarmac and it's still intact. Thats not what i can say for my old desire z (by the way it still works).
Sorry for you.

Ouch! I'm sorry to see I'm not the only one...
I'm just disappointed. I was praising the build quality of this phone because it felt SO good in my hand. It just felt solid. Adding insult to injury, my phone is only two or three weeks old. Shortest-lived phone I've ever had. Worst of all I have no idea what to replace it with. For the myriad Android options out there, there's not a lot worth buying. Maybe the LG Optimus G, but that's months away...
The build quality is great. Let's not forget that a screen will remain a screen, the part which is most probably the most easy to destroy

The only reason I use screen protector is to prevent from happening like this. At least I feel better with it, and I don't care about scratches at all.
HTC service will fix your screen, but it will cost you a lot.

I`m sorry.
I`ve dropped my phone at least 10 times (on asphalt) and the only thing i have after all is two scratches on the polycarbonat. It obiviously depends on angle of the impact
But hey, look how many iphones with broken screens are on ebay
I am terribly sorry for your loss.
I am not sure if you can only replace the digitizer part (the glass only) or you will need to replace it with screen LCD (as in one unite).
But, you can now open yours and figure it out.
Here are couple of links from e-bay, that's I hope it's useful:

Good luck & sorry again for your loss.
Yeah I suppose I can't have such high hopes for a screen that is so big, and it is still sort of glass. And it does seem to depend on the angle of dropping. Oh well, lesson learned. I decided to just get another One X so I can do a Nandroid restore and not have to bother with setup all over again. I'll try to be a lot more careful with my new one...

Thank you for your condolences The problem is that my LCD is also damaged. It's not cracked, but it has serious discolouration in some areas where the impact was harsh. I tried doing a screen replacement on my Nexus One a while back and now that phone is in about 20 pieces in a zip-lock bag I do not have the touch for these kinds of home repairs. I'll see if I can find a place that does repairs though. I'd pay someone to do it for me. Thanks for the tip!
depends where you are as in the uk htc will fix it for around 150 quid which is still cheaper than £400 to replace it with a new one
I dropped mine a week ago and it was about as bad as your maybe a bit worse and i only dropped it from waist height. The ironic thing was that i have a htc otterbox case the full $50 dollar one and i took it off the night before so i could plug my 6.5mm plug with 3.5mm adapter into the headphone jack. The next day i couldn't be bothered putting it back on as i just had to duck out real quick and didnt think much of it. Wrong choice as it cost me $150 dollars to replace screen here in australia. As others have mentioned you can buy screen replacement parts for very cheap but im not sure of the quality etc and i couldn't be bothered learning how to pull the phone apart even from youtube videos. If you have the time an patience it might be the way to go though.
So lesson learned is buy a case, dont skimp on a cheap one and then leave it on forever!

I'm in Sweden so it probably costs a fortune here if it's even possible. Maybe I can ship it to the UK, or get it done when I'm in the US. Since I'm going there in a week, I ordered one from HK to be delivered there. Much cheaper that way. Only £310 including shipping
Here is a place to share your thoughts and stories on your lost, bricked, and broke Optimus G's. Please me respectful of the loss other's have had to endure. I encourage you to share stories and pictures of your G.
Number 1
I will start with my first Optimus G. It was a fighter the first 24 hours I owned it. That was until my grip slipped and it fell in my large glass of rum and coke. It slowly died overnight. The life was sucked right out of it.
Number 2
It also shared a short life. It was two months old when it first got ill from testing a new rom. In the end it was killed by his twin brother(accidentally flashed someone's esn to my phone without a backup partition). There wasn't enough room in the network for them both to exist.
You will be missed.
number 1
it was a perfect day to snowboard with my 1 month old optimus G, until my pocket zipper opened and it disappeared in snow forever.
number 2
a whopping 2 weeks after getting my replacement my grip on it slipped at a club and it fell on the floor, where someone decided instead of picking it up for me, they should stomp it out. both sides are obliterated and the guy who stomped on it mysteriously fell on the floor and slept for a little
In keeping the desired respect, this thread is hilarious.
Personally I have not lost an OG yet.
My wife however...
Days after initial purchase she let my 15 month old son step on it, cracking the screen on the right hand side. Within a couple more days she then dropped it into a toilet. It was in her back pocket and as she stood up it slipped from the pocket and landed square in the toilet. Don't ask what was in the toilet, I sure didn't and its probably best if we don't know. The final damage to the phone came as she buckled the aforementioned son into the car, she placed the phone on the seat and it plummeted roughly three feet to the concrete, shattering the screen entirely.
The OG wanted to survive, sadly conditions were such the its owner apparently wanted it to just die. We have a new OG now, and its a good phone, but it will never have the pluck that my wife's first phone had.

This is why I'm not thrilled with the smooth glass back. It's far too easy for it to slip from your hands, or just slide off another smooth surface that's at the slightest angle.
I never once dropped my previous phone (HTC Evo 3D), and when I sold it after 18 months, it was still in perfect condition.
Within the first two weeks of owning the LG Optimus G, it slid off two smooth surfaces that were at a tiny incline, causing minor cosmetic damage to the sides. I've since become much more careful, but I shouldn't have to.
I like the back of the HTC Droid DNA, with its soft-touch feel.

No kidding, I got my bumper case within the first week of my phone and I'm glad I did, otherwise I am sure I would have lost gripped one day and probably have gotten destroyed.
I still have my first and have gotten it used. Still strong after many slips and falls. Don't like the feel of cases but its looking strong.
R.I.P to all of those fallen LGOGs. They will be missed.
My device was probably one of the first victims of gravity. It only had a short life of under 24 hours when it jumped to its death at a football game.

I upgraded to a new data plan, and got a nice shiny new lg optimus g ls970 on saturday. Monday morning my daughter was sick from school, and i wanted to cheer her up. I plugged in the wall charger and laid the phone on the kitchen counter. Started to play a song for her to cheer her up from Alicia keys. She proceeded to dance near the phone, and snagged the power cord. My phone went crashing down on my tile floor, and smashed the screen. The phone was useless no touch response..luckily i had Tep on it.....

My wife and I bought ours during Sprints BOGO sale, Sweet! 2 new LG OG's!! I was thrilled.
Demise Number 1, Wife starts to walk out of store just after my credit card is charged, doesn't notice the young man who obviously knew nothing of chivalry, had let go of the door which was slowly coming to a close as she 'played' with her new toy. Walking headlong into the door, the phone suddenly decided it was time for gravity is to work in reverse for just a moment. Amazingly long enough in duration to leave the hand of my wife, but not quite long enough for her to grab a hold of said phone before gravity switched back to normal, pulling this airborne OG quickly to the ground, shattering the screen.
Demise Number 2 Sprint replaces the phone on the spot, we left the store. I held the door for my wife. she and her phone made it out safely this time. We make it home safely, phone too. She decides to take a bath, tweeting and facebooking on and about her new phone. She calls out to me for her charger, I recomend not using it in case she dropped the phone in the water. As she finished her argument that she woulldnt drop her new phone with a surprised statement, '"oops!", I heard the splash. Neptune's superfluity revenge on technology took effect.
Demise Number 3 seriously...
Sprint store manager got a good laugh as I returned to the store. It's a good thing we've been Sprint customers for 16 years. I walked out with the third phone, as well as my phone, my car keys and a new case for her in my hands. I got in the car, was putting everything down, I didn't notice I dropped my phone out of the car. It amazingly had not been damaged from the fall. It didn't even look like it had a scratch on it, that is until my tire had passed over it. The phone and glass were definitely not designed for the weight of a dodge.
Sprint Manager was now seriously feeling my pain. He gave me a couple car chargers and an otterbox for my newly replaced phone, on the condition I didn't come back in that day, even if I did somehow manage to destroy one more OG. It's a good thing that bad things come in threes, I don't think I would have paid one more insurance deductible for one of these phones that night.
We are now 4 weeks in, without any more problems...

Demise#1 phone had some wierd ripples on the back so I swapped it out
Demise#2 replacement phone came straight out of box with blown speakers
Demise#3 nothing physical at this point but as most of here are flashoholics I am as well and needed something to play with so I bought another S2 and the wife was like no baby its ok take my Note 2 ill take your LGOG...I will say that the wife is pretty good when it comes to her phones so it is still "Lifeless" awaiting some sugary "jb" then she'll be mine again

So drop my note 3 from about one foot off the ground... lands solid face down... no case or screen protector... cracks the screen almost from corner to corner. Took out the warranty for once... happy I did that. So paid 175 and yay phone next day... no... not quite... 2 days later no updates. Call and the note 3 is on backorder and should have one in a week. I heard the note 3 was fragile.... but really? This is more of just a sharing of my experience than anything but I just hope they take it without caring that the knox flag is tripped.
Face down is the worst way any phone can land, regardless of distance. It's not really much of a relative barometer of durability. Insurance shouldn't care that the Knox flag is tripped, assuming you actually mean insurance.

I've heard these issues with both the Note 3 and the GS4. Was worried about getting both of them. My wife has GS4, of course you know what i have. I Have a N3 Flip cover, and have dropped it. Funny enough the flip cover always manages to open on the way down. I have a dent in the metal frame, and have dropped it hard enough that the flip cover came off and the battery popped out, but no damage to the screen. But i do have the invisi shield on it, so maybe that is the difference.

Whatever insurance I pay for with the jump thing. Really wasn't so big on the idea since I sell my devices... and just buy new ones... but I was like whatever this is knew Ill give it a shot and see what I think.
The face down drop was just payback for me trying to ride my kids big wheel racer thing (like a tricycle with the front tire being very large). Girlfriend was following behind me and I didn't even stop to get my phone(possibly ran over it) and just yelled back joking "how bad is it?" thinking at worst it would be a screen scratch... She then shows me when we get to the car and I was like... well that sucks.. thought was its already broken so no point in getting upset now... especially since I was the one that broke it.
I have dropped it one other time and it hit the corner(dented the plastic a little) where this crack continued to... so just guessing I weakened the glass and the just the face down flop was enough to finish it off.

There was another guy here ordering a brand new note 3 and he said it was on back order. Looks like you are probably getting a brand new unit then?
Sorry about the dropping, I always want to go without case as I like the feel of the phone naked, but know for a fact I will drop it without a case LOL Even though I have not yet dropped mine since it was released october 3rd.
Try not to drop your phone lol.
But really after the s2 the s line has gotten crap and break easy from drops.
I my friend has drop so many phones it's not even funny.
He said the s2 last the longest. Drop and no cracks. Power button pop off lol.
His s3 broke and the battery back rubs a hold in it from normal use.
His girl had a s4 and it shatter from falling.
But again all no cases or screen protectors.
I do my best to not drop a phone because now a days there build like eggs.
I remember in the old days you could throw a phone at someone, knock them out then pick it up and call someone lol.

Well after such a good experience with the Note2 I decided to try case free... that has now stopped. Have a case and screen protector ready for the new one.
After the quick break on this one I am probably going to be selling the replacement one.... unsure if it will be replaced with a s5 or sony z1s. Thats a topic for another day and a lot more research.
Wait for Sony z2s with massive screen phablet love.

I cycle a lot..... really a lot... so carrying a note 3 in my jersey is a slight hassle and wont fit in my saddle bag.
I am wanting a large note3 like phone and then a compact high end phone... I had a N5 and it was all good except the battery life left me with a dead phone on heavy use days. The note3 has never failed me on that one.

I sent in a phone for a warranty replacement and I left the ROM on it and everything and I got mine replaced. Most refurbished phones are ones that someone owned for a couple days and returned it for whatever reason.

Guess this means I got a new one? the bag they sent me to return the device isnt big enough for charger cable etc.. Guess I will call them and ask... not feeling paying extra just because I didn't return the new charger they sent me. I do have the slight urge to do some drop tests with my phone that is going back as a warranty exchange.... I wont but am curious.

Yes, looks like you got a new one. When I got mine, it was refurbished, and NOT in a Samsung box. rather, it was a box from the insurance company.

Thank you for the info. Now to just charge it up and check the multitouch and of course root and get to flashing. Really hoping I can just take my backup of my old Note3 and use it in my new Note3. Then TiBu the apps. Time is seriously short about to take a road trip from the Midwest to NY and the unlimited tethering among other things is a slight need. Side note... loving X-Note.

Yep I'm not complaining. This one after testing basic functioning has a screen protector on it with a case. Just went with the tech21 for both because they were there.
And yes I restored the backup from my previous note3 to the new one and no hiccups. Took like 15 minutes from root to just like the other.

so to make a long story short, i managed to shatter the screen on my att branded lg g4. Its so bad that NOTHING displays on the screen when powered on (but the notification led still works lol)
But i need to know if theres anywhere online i could order a new screen (that wont charge me an arm and a leg)....
ANDDDD will an h815 screen work with my h810? (I dont see why it wouldnt)
You want the digitizer WITH frame in one.makes it easier. You don't want those two separate. Prolly do it yourself. Watch this.
Another, strip and put together inside ten minutes. This is how phones should be engineered.
This should give you an idea of price.

I watched the video and i cant believe how simple that is!!! And it looks like im better off getting the whole digitizer WITH FRAME assembly (would make the whole thing way easier lol). But ive got three questions.
First, Is repairsuniverse a reputable site? Id rather not get jipped for almost $100....
Second, are they US based? I live on the east coast of the US so I'm kinda hoping i could get it sooner then later (because for now I'm stuck using my old iphone 5c and the tiny screen is killing me!!!!!! Hahaha)
And third, are there any other REPUTABLE places i could order from that wouldn't be AS expensive? Because with me being an unemployed single father, i don't have much money to throw around, so id like to try and save as much money as possible....
Thank you very much for your responses and such.
How did you break the screen anyway. what kind of back did it have and were you using any sort of case.

they have a youtube channel with a guy who speaks in an american accent, they dont have any grammatical or spelling errors on their site. They look legit. Credit card means you're protected.
In my market LG offers a free screen replacement within the first six months from sale, worth around the $100 mark. That is the limit of their liability.
Just ask at the service centre closest to you then decide.

Sorry for the lack of reply lol. I will answer all the questions to the best that I can. First off I need to thank ONE TWELVE because I DID order the screen with frame from that site and it actually came in 2-3 days before it was supposed to. It only took 3 days to get from nv to nj.
The only few issues I had with the new screen is FIRST, pulling the headset speaker out was a pita!! Everything came out fine. I think I spent more time just pulling the headset out then I did pulling the ENTIRE phone apart lol. SECOND issue (was kinda my fault) I had forgotten to take the bracket for the proximity sensor out of the old screen and put it into the new one (duhhh, guess I was so excited to actually have a working phone again that I missed that super tiny peice) and the THIRD issue which I haven't assessed yet; the notification LED IS NOWHERE near as bright as it used to be, but I think there may be a piece of film or something that I may have forgotten to remove from the new screen..
As for how the screen broke..... The phone was naked at the time (no case, no screen protector) and it has the black leather back (which I got because it felt like the plastic one would be to slippery cuz theses no grip to it). Me and my son were getting ready to walk out of the amusment park and someone bumped into me as I was texting for my ride (with only one hand, Because the other was holding my son's hand obviously) and being bumped had caught me off guard and the phone fell face down onto the STONE gravel walkway and shattered it right at the bottem of the screen. I'll find the box that has the OLD screen in it and upload a picture.
Mind you, this is the FIRST screen I have ever shattered. And I've owned every iPhone sinch the 3g hahahah

You did not drop your iphones because they're smaller. One hand use when the other hand is busy is why people get phones with smaller screens. But the reason (amongst others) that you got a bigger screen is because those small screens no longer cut it.
Leather means no case so the only thing left is a tempered glass protector. it will protect against a face down drop but not a corner drop, either putting it into or taking it out of a pocket, this too with just one hand.
Look for amfilm. Generic with good reviews on amazon.

Accually I find a case on Amazon that actually fits the leather back (after MUCH searching lol) it's a SPIGEN branded one. Its got a rubber back that slips into the phone and then a hard plastic bumper that clips around it (it's kinda hard to explane, I'll post the Amazon link)... But after a week or so of using the case I'm really not a fan of it. I might try and find something else that doesn't feel so cheap.
(sorry for the crazy long Amazon link lol)

Its called the neo hybrid and i have two of them. Good grip. rather than cheap i'd have thought you may have found them bulky.
other options are verus verge, uag, caseology if you don't mind the size.
Anyone else have luck w/ a reliable source for the screen / digitizer AND housing for a sprint variant? ereplacementparts.com said theirs does NOT work w/ the sprint variant. Anyone try the ones on Amazon?
Thanks.
Why don't you try the one already mentioned earlier ?
am surprised to hear there is even a difference between sprint and others when it comes to the screen.

But it has also happened to some that are not on sprint too.
Screen incompatibility?
Hello.
Has anyone encountered or does anyone know of incompatibilities with screen and G4 model? I recently bought a screen replacement but it doesn't seem to light up. The LED indicator and other components attached to the screen work fine though.
Actually the long story is I got hold of 3 replacement screens. The 1st one lit up but had problems recognizing touch and the display was fuzzy so I asked for another replacement. The 2nd one behaves as described in the paragraph above. The same goes for the 3rd one.
I noticed my original screen and the 1st replacement screen's ribbon were different from the 2nd and 3rd in that the 2nd and 3rd had a metal sheet which was not present on the 1st and my original one.
This is what the 2nd and 3rd replacement screens' ribbons look like: s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/usetsfiles/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/e/replacement_part_for_lg_g4_f500_lcd_screen_and_digitizer_assembly_-_black_-_lg_logo_-_a_grade_3__1.jpg
(sorry, I'm not yet allowed to post links)
I haven't tried removing the metal sheet as I haven't seen a tutorial video that does that.
The image isn't showing when i entered it into the browser. Says something about an xml file
Reduce the size of the filename and host it again.

I'm curious how many of you had to send you Pixel 2 XL in for a warranty replacement? Also how many replacements you have gotten? I'm on my third warranty exchange for various reasons. I'm just wondering if other people been having this much trouble with this phone as I have.
First phone: Modem issue
Second phone: USB Type-C port issue
Third phone: Current phone
I'm on #8, multiple refurbs isn't uncommon at this point.

Still on the same phone I ordered on release day. All good here. Shear dumb luck on my part I'm sure ?
4th one. Just received it yesterday. So far so good.
First phone. Screen burn in after a week of use. (First batch of pixel 2 xl)
Second phone they sent me was a brand new phone. It was close to perfect. Had it for a few months until I noticed bottom speaker was having issues. Could have lived with it but figured if Google would replace it for me why not.
3rd phone (Refurbished) was dented and had some type of red paint smeared around the corners when I first opened it. I have a panda version too so it was definitely noticeable. It was a refurbished phone which I didn't care, but you can clearly tell they didn't inspect it. Had it for 15 mins and ran into a few problems. Finger print scanner didn't work and top speaker did not work.
4th phone (refurbished) which I have now. So far so good. I'm hoping I don't have to do this anymore. I should've honestly just stuck with my second phone thinking back at it now.
Don't think pixels are a bad phone. Still love this phone... For me, it was a mixture of pickiness and a run of bad luck. I have 4 friends that have pixels xl 2 as well and none of them have issues.

If you did an RMA, the phone will come in a different box than it would when it's new. The refurbished phones comes shipped in a box that is smaller and it only includes the phone. No accessories or charger.
I'm on my first phone. I don't believe in swapping phones too often, especially if I know it's going to exhibit similar traits once it's exchanged.
People on 3, 4 or more exchanges would be barred from exchanges if I was google, as that's just ridiculous and over the top.

My first phone would not connect to my network. I spent the better part of a day on the phone with Google support and ATT trying to fix the issue. Manually entered the APN, did a factory reset and activated a brand new sim card. Nothing would fix it.
My second phone would not let me access the internal storage or connect via ADB. Again spent the better part of the day on the phone with Google and attempted many different things to try to correct the issue.
Both cases were not my fault they were Hardware defects and both cases it was Google that initiated the warranty exchange. How is that ridiculous and over-the-top? It's not our fault the phones are defective and if I'm going to pay $1,000 for a phone I want it to work the way it was intended.

In your case it's ok but I'm sure he means for the one that are returning the phones because of something that it's not fixable like the blue tint on the screen. Folks are going insane because of it and it's simple to say that's how the screen was built.
I agree to a point. At 3 i would refund the money to the customer.

I'm on my 2nd phone.
1st phone : factory USB charger burned the port
2nd phone: will not charge to 100%. Stuck at 99%
3rd phone : On its way
Did Google do anything for you all to improve your customer experience?

Other than replacing the phone no.
I'm on my 7th Pixel 2 XL at this point. First one had speaker distortion and calls would cut out. My second one was great minimal blue shift and the speakers had very little distortion then phone call issues occurred and a speaker stopped working. Audio would cut in and out on wifi calling or with full signal all the time. Phone #3 = Dead Pixels/black debris under the screen, Phone #4 = speaker distortion so bad I couldn't understand anyone on a phone call, Phone #5 and #6 = Dead Pixels/black debris. I'm on phone #7 and there was a cosmetic imperfection out of the box like a scratch under the screen? I noticed it under the lighting I was using when applying my whitestone protector Also on the bottom a pixel is stuck/dead but I'll never see it under normal usage so I'll live with it. The speakers on this one have pretty much no distortion on phone calls which is important for business. The "scratch/imperfection" will never be seen again with the whitestone on it. Just crazy how poor their quality control is this time around. Also, these were all brand new devices out of the box! Majority were built in October and 2 were from December.

So I'm pretty convinced that Google is probably sending out returned devices to customers or it's the same type of defect. I've had my phone in a fabaric case since day one and I take it out daily to clean it/make sure there's no debris. I'm keeping this one because the speakers have no distortion on calls or videos. Also the other marks are just smudges and were wiped off.

Yeah that must've been a returned phone. I've had my phone since October and even I don't have those scratches.
I think the RMA process is a joke TBH. Don't think it's Google's fault. The company (Cynergy) that handles their defect phones doesn't seem to inspect the phones as close as they should.
Google claims a refurbished phone is practically brand new since they're suppose to replace the part that was defective and change the housing of the phones to be new... But in my case that was a lie. The refurb RMA phones I have received have had some type of dented/scratch or markings.

Refund the money so they go and buy a phone from another company?
Google keeps customers returning by putting the customer's concerns as a top priority.

Yeah, all the devices I had I never had any scratches on them with my day to day use with protector + case. But I thought it was cause the speakers were clean and lint free. I'm just going to keep this one because the speakers are perfect and don't distort for my needs. Just sad that I have to settle because of all the other phones with crappy speakers. But my hopes are in the XL 3 being better and I'll trade this one in for store credit.

This replacement device came in the brand new retail package and it was sealed. But I guess that doesn't mean much since they can just clean it up and wrap it back up and put a sticker back on and send it out.
On my 3rd replacement device, blue tint has been horrible on each device received. Sending back the replacement devices and keeping my original device that does not have the blue tint issue, but has a speaker that goes out at times.
Now my wifes panda pixel 2 xl has bubbles/what looks to be like an oil stain under the display. Wish me luck
