Hi, I am really unhappy with the lack of vibration intensity and duration on this phone. I am missing so many notifications when on vibrate because it is so incredibly soft. I finally gave up my EVO 4G for the Epic Touch. My EVO's vibrate was always two sequential bursts and they were strong. I mean someone sitting next to me could hear the vibrations. Now with the Epic Touch the vibration (and I use the term loosely because it’s really more of a mosquito buzz) is just one single burst about one third of a second long, and if it is in my case at the time, I usually can't even feel it. There has got to be a way to increase the intensity somehow. Could it just be that I got a bad phone? Is this a problem for anyone else? Any other EVO users who made the switch noticing the same vast difference?
Thanks

Why would it not be a real post? The vibration is a bit weaker. Not that big of a deal for me but I'm sure it is noticed by some.

Yes it is a real post. I am really wondering if anyone else is noticing this also, and if anyone knows of a way to increase it through something like QPST or something. When I do the *#0*# to get to the test utility, and choose the vibrate. It puts your phone in a state of constent vibrate and if I hold it about waist level, I can't even hear it buzzing, and the feel in my hand is very minimul compared to all of the other phones I have had.
My E4GT vibrates stronger than my Evo did. In fact, at work I keep my phone on my desk in vibrate mode, and sometimes it rattles the whole desk.

Oh good, glad to hear it. At least now I can hope that there is just something wrong with mine, and go take it to a store and have it checked. I really want to feel good about this phone and know I am already fighting a bit of a bias, because I have always had HTC phones and have been very very happy with the way they are manufactured. For me to go to another brand and give up Sense was a huge mental battle. I am still struggling a lot with the lack of the Sense UI and all of it's really sweet widgets, but then to be disenchanted with the hardware too has been causing me to have second thoughts.
Thanks for the post, anyone else want to post their experience in this area?
I don't 100% remember my EVO's vibration, because I moved to the Nexus S before I got the Epic 4G Touch. The Nexus's vibration was pretty weak and I was getting used to that, so the E4GT's vibration actually startled me when I set it on a table and it went off. I can say based on what I can remember, that my E4GT's vibration is equal to if not better than my Evo's.
Are you looking for the phone to simulate an earthquake. The highest setting is pretty darn intense. I keep it at less than half and that is plenty strong for home row and notification IMO.
Perhaps an iphone will vibrate like the spin cycle on your washer, is that why all the housewives use them?

I agree. If your worried about missing txts get handcent sms from the market.. It let's you change the intensity and duration of the vibration. Hope this helps. Cheers mate

That reminds me, have you set your vibration intensity? Menu, Settings, Sound, Vibration intensity. I set mine to maximum, but I think it came set in the middle.
I'm pretty sure that setting is just for the haptic feedback...

LOL, I am just looking for a similar vibration intensity to what I have had on every smart phone (all HTCs) up to this one. Or to determine if mine is just not functioning properly.

You both reference there being a setting for vibration intensity, but that has no effect on notification vibration. It is for feedback vibration, that is why it is under the heading "Feedback". And why it is grayed out if you have haptic feedback unchecked. And why it says "set your touch feedback vibration intensity" in small type.
And yes just out of curiosity I did turn on the haptic feedback option and cranked the vibration intensity all the way up, and it had no impact on the notification vibrations, as would be expected.
Thanks,

There is a vibrate on touch/release feature in NFSFAN’s ROM’s that is normally turned on by default. The first time I flashed one of these ROM’s this feature really took me by surprise. I seriously through “oh boy, I screwed this up”.
My question is what is this feature for? I turned it off as soon as I figured out how to turn it off. Do people like this feature? Or was I too hasty in turning it off and am I missing out on how it could be useful?
What about battery life? Wouldn’t it drain the battery very quickly? Also, it seems to me that the vibrate feature is the only “moving part” on this phone. Couldn’t using it in this way wear out the bearings and/or motor?

it is supposed to mimick the haptic feedback found on many touch screen devices. the battery does not drain too fast as to be very noticable.

My first impression was about the same as yours, I also turned if off right away. However after flashing a few more times and getting lazy and not turning it off I've come to like it. Especially when typing, it feels more like typing on a normal cell keyboard. I wish there was an app or a keyboard that did vibrate on touch. As far as battery drain I haven't noticed any issues... prior the most recent NFSFAN ROM my battery life sucked, since v9 it's much better, I actually was able to go 36 hours without charging my phone... before after 12 it would be down to 30 some %. As for wearing it out I don't see that as an issue, I've never taken apart my touch enough to see what makes it vibrate, but common sense would tell me it's a small motor with a counter weight, I'm sure it will last much longer than other parts of the vogue like the screen....
Obviously this is just my opinion of the vibrate feature, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try for a couple of days.
I'd advise trying it out for a few days or so, I find now that without it I miss it. It really does help in replacing the tactile feeling of a physical keyboard and knowing that the key was in fact pressed. You can adjust the feel too, personally I tend to like the 25/15 setting.
i turn off the vibrate on release. to me when you use yiur key board there is no point on having it vibrate twice for every key stroke.. but you do get used to it and its hard to go without it.. SPB keyboard has this option in it and it would cause some longer vibrations..
Hi Guys,
This may be because I'm coming for a Blackberry but my Nexus's vibrate function feels WAY too light. I'll have the phone sitting on a pad of paper on my desk and the only way I know I have a notification is if I happen to glance over at the phone and the LED is blinking.
Has this been anyone else's experience? Is there an app (similar to Volume+) that would help increase the vibrate function's strength?
Thanks!

I can double confirm this. The vibration is so powerful that it also makes a loud noise at the same time. So this is definitely not a generic phone problem. Maybe your specific model ? Try to get another one.
does an app exist that will boost the vibrate function so that I can give it a try

I didn't think the vibration was weak on the GN until earlier today when I decided to install ICS on my trusty HD2 to see how it handled it. The vibration on my HD2 feels about 3 times more powerful than the GN so some people might see it as weak.
Thank you. I don't think its a phone defect, I'd really like to see some way to increase the intensity.

My Galaxy Nexus's vibrate is INCREDIBLY weak. Barely audible at all when on a desk, and basically impossible to feel vibrate when it's in my pocket. At first I thought it was my silicone case, but even after taking it out of the case it's barely any better.
There are actually people who believe the vibrate is powerful? I wonder if I should get mine checked out.

I have a feeling that they're being hyperbolicly defensive. Quite a few reviews have mentioned this as an issue, along with quiet notification sounds.
If you're in a silent room with your phone on your desk, of course you'll feel that the vibration is strong. But just get out of the house and into a loud place, like a mall. I missed two calls and an SMS the first time I went out with my GN even though vibrate AND sound were on.
Sorry to bump an old-ish thread, but still no one has offered any solutions. Is it possible or not to increase the vibration intensity?
Yeah, I fail to see how anyone can think the vibrate on this phone is strong. I set my D2G next to the phone and it got an email I can hear the vibrate in the other room. Next when the SGN got a vibrate I barely heard it 2 feet away in my chair. Either I have a defective model or this phones vibrate is insanely weak.
Bump for revisiting this...
I'm considering the GNexus, but vibration strength is a big issue for me. I keep my phone on silent with vibration at work and out in general, because I personally consider it more considerate to others.
I'm not concerned with vibration when it's sitting in my desk, but I'm definitely concerned when it's in my pocket. In fact, I returned the RAZR because I literally missed every call and SMS that came in because the vibration was so week.
Can anyone compare this to the SGS2's vibration, which I thought was strong, and I could feel it when in my pocket. Same thing with the iPhone when I had that -- I thought the vibration was very strong.
I know it sounds like a weird deal-breaker, but if I'm missing calls/SMS, it defeats the main purpose of the phone, you know?
I turn off all default and use light flow. The vibrate time can be customized. I hate to 2 little buzz vibrates. I have it set for a continuous time of 3 seconds.

I would consider the vibration strength as low/decent. I came from a Motorola XT720 which had a much stronger vibration.
I've never used a SGS2 or RAZR so I can't really comment. I've used friend's iPhones briefly but would say the iPhone has a stronger vibrate.
For what it's worth I can usually feel the vibration of texts and calls when the phone is in my pocket.
I don't really care, but the vibrate function on my SGN is absolutely anemic. It's the weakest I've ever had in any smartphone, to the point where I just turn it off because it's so unnoticeable.
Hello guys
Is there any method to get GN vibrate when pocket? Obviously it should be in dependence of proximity sensor, but I cannot set it up, as lets say HTC Sensation does.
Thanks and ciao

I having the same sota problem with my sensation
I just thought of this and I have no idea if it would work but would it be possable to ad a little more unevenness to the pager motor to make it vibrate more, not Evan sure if u can get access to the little buzzer but as I said its just an idea

this made me think. i think there's an "option" to change vibrate strenght in the source....
I've just got my 2nd OX after I sent the first one back due to the very very light haptic/vibration feedback from the screen and buttons.
I've just test the replacement and it's EXACTLY the same. I know the vibration works normally on this and the one I sent back but it's just so light compared to my SGS2 (*pukes*), my trusty HD2 before that and my brother's new OS.
So what's the deal? How's your haptic feedback? Is there a way to set the strength of it?
I guess that is normal. I also have the impression that the haptic feedback is way to light - compared to my Galaxy S2.
Yeah the haptic feedback is relatively light. I personally prefer it that way .
Heard that AOKP ROMS may be coming to HOX and from memory, I think they give you the chance to change the length/intensity of the haptic feedback.
It's normal...
It's much lighter than other phones... but I like it this way. The GNexus I previously had had an annoyingly strong haptic feedback, so i turned it off...
So I sent back my perfect OX for one that might not be perfect?
Is there anything I can do to increase the duration of the vibration because it really doesn't work as it is for me.
Definitely lighter than previous phones, and for better IMO

Plus one. I can barely tell when I've hit or missed the soft key I was going for.
Back in the days of Cyanogenmod on my Thunderbolt, I remember there was a ridiculously intricate section built right into the Settings app for adjusting haptic feedback durations, patterns, intensity, etc. Perhaps it's possible to incorporate those settings into a rooted OneX or other Sense 4.0 device.
Oh, sorry for bringing up a somewhat old thread.
My haptic feedback feels reasonably strong, more so than the LG Secret I had years ago (the last phone I had to feature haptic feedback). I don't like it at all though, it's one of the first things I turned off. It seems that with my very fast typing the haptic feedback lags a little, which gives the illusion the whole phone is lagging. It isn't of course as the UI is responding perfectly.
I have increased the feedback with the keyboard, I have SwiftKey 3 installed for that though....
Yeah, would love to be able to turn the soft key vibration up a notch. It's pretty useless as is. Either that or add some sound to them.

Nah. Not fond of Cyanogen ROMs.
HOX about two weeks old, not rooted running apex pro nothing toi fancy. First my feedback is more pronounced than on other phones but that's nothing compared to what I would describe as an alarm of some sorts (guessing) that is between 12 and 15 seconds at full vibration. If you've run a program to drain your battery with full haptic running. I'm at a loss and have reset phone 3 times, but it can't to good for the phone, and way beyond haptic feedback. Any suggestions? Ideas? Also, can't duplicate as yet and not really enthusiastic about tech support or store either.
Thanks

For me it's the floating call timer when using different app during a call
The fact that it apparently doesn't trickle charge via wireless charging. Oh, and it's pickiness about placement. Holy crap, is that annoying.
My biggest frustration is turning on the screen. Sometimes it turns on a second or two later, and by then, you've already tapped again on it - and this time, those taps turn it back off! Ugh!
As for the floating call timer, if you root it and have the G3 Tweaks Box, there is an option to remove that box and put it back in the notification drawer.
- It gets way too hot by the buttons.
- Having no capacitive buttons and being forced to use on screen buttons.
- Battery life is 'meh' using stock firmware.

Who said we don't like it? I love this phone, but it has some annoying "features" to it. Don't like it? Don't read this thread.
The fact that it's on T-Mobile is what pisses me off. Where's my update?!
The wonky audio port/connection. When using the phone with regular headphones (no remote) bumping the jack will result in the phone registering random commands and dropping audio.

I refuse to believe that you'd seriously miss the point of this thread by that much. Get to the punchline, already.

If I had to find a single thing, I guess it would be the screen's contrast at higher brightness levels. Normally it's not a big peeve, but this particular screen displays black with reckless inaccuracy.
Not crazy about the buttons on the back. Sometimes when I'm squatting down to tie my shoes or something I hear the volume going up. Other than that the phone is great. I just wish it had ways of changing colors in the dialer or some UI without rooting.
Oh and the fact that Lollipop is coming soon and the upgrades doesn't even look like anything has changed. Oh well.

Yeah, same here. It may have to do with the vibration intensity which may be set a bit high in OOS 3.1.2. But it's just my guess. You could try a ROM with a modifiable vibration intensity and see what the results are then.

Just seen the android authority review they state it as " Sub-par vibration motor ". I agree.
Somewhat agree, feel's very much like the same motor used in the opo. I don't actually mind it to be honest, phone may be silenced but instill can just about hear it when a notification comes in..
Yeah its not that much of a big deal, but im used to strong vibration motors i think i just have to get used to it
But it feels a little bit cheap on such a high end build
My S7E haptic feedback motor is strong but very muted/quiet. When I got my OP3 I immediately thought it was broken. It really disturbs me at the moment amd I hope I get used to it or find info about some units being defective so I can send it back for fixing.
Same here. But I had the side affect of knowing this behavior from my opo.
On my note 4 it was Better in terms of vibration intensity. The opo 3 is louder but generates less vibration. It feels and sounds cheap. Although I have to admit that for me it's not that big of a deal since I have my phone on the desk all the time and vibration for me is just a quieter way of informing me rather than having the sound on...

I have the same issue. In fact it wasn't like this before. I like to set a very light vibration when I type and I've just noticed a hiss noise each time I press a button/key. I use OP 3 for a week and it definitely wasn't like this before this moment. It may be related to recent update I've got yesterday (but this seems unlikely), or the engine isn't so good than I thought. Anyway that's a bit disappointing. Is your vibration hissing too? I can hear it even at the lowest settings when the vibration barely noticeable but the noise is still present. Sounds very cheap, even my $100 Jiayu sounded better.
Mine feels the same, too rattly.
Do you think there are a few defective unites around or is it the same on all OP3's and a bunch of us are more sensitive to it than the rest?
I did take mine to the service center where they said that if the vibration motor was defective in any way, it would just not work at all and mine apparently has no issues.
mines noisy and kinda weak as well but i arranged with it just fine
I have the same issue too. The phone makes a rattling noise while vibrating and it is annoying!!
Ask for a replacement!!
I have this vibration issue too, but it occured after some weeks, not at day 1.
I did a service request, described the issue and sent it in.
After some days my OP3 came back, protocol said "no service needed, all test went fine".
Funny thing, the vibration issue was gone.
The next morning it was back again and now I'm in forum right now, looking for a solution...
Oh man, they used the same cheap and rattly vibration motor they used on the One, not the good one from 2. I just realized.
