[Q] Lockscreen + Security Screen = Bad Design! - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear Sirs,
Here's something which, as far as I can see, hasn't been addressed by any ROM:
WHY are the lockscreen and security screen two separate things in Android?
Okay, hear me out.
You're a security-conscious chap, so you want to protect your phone with a pin number / password / pattern. So you set it up. BUT! You hit the screen-on button, and the lockscreen comes up. You swipe to open the lockscreen, and only then does the security screen come up, with its prompt asking for a pin or whatever. So you enter that, and then finally you can get into your phone, after an assortment of keystrokes, rendered all the more annoying by the extraneous lockscreen. What's the point?
Having a security screen, under these conditions, renders the lockscreen completely extraneous, and it is 'design inefficient'.
Why (oh why) is there not an option to remove the lockscreen and have just the security prompt screen? This would appear to be a extremely simple and logical feature to offer.
I hate to bring up iOS (which I hate), but with iOS the security screen is the lockscreen. And additionally, once you've entered your pin, iOS will open up without you having to press "OK"!
It just seems like this is an area where Android isn't at all well thought out. Is there anything that can be done about this?

There are apps that can do this (No lock, alot of others), and CM7 has that feature built into it.

I'm sorry to say that they do not.
All the apps that do this, including 'No lock', remove the lockscreen along with everything else, so any security is also removed.
Where in CM7 is the option to switch off lockscreen but retain the security screen?

Hey 314, good call on CM! 'Disable lockscreen on security' is exactly what I'm talking about.
Now, if only all the other ROMs could provide that, we'd be cooking.
Next: to remove the need for the ridiculous 'OK' following pin entry!

mod to allow noticification drawer in lock screen?

The only thing I miss about iOS is the ability to preview my txts/emails without unlocking the phone even when I had a password. ICS doesn't allow this unless when you disable security with is obviously a bad idea. Any one knows how to work around this?
Not trolling, but isn't security on your lock screen supposed to protect your information? If you opt to have your info (emails, texts, etc.) displayed on your lock screen, then it renders any security measures on your device useless.
I recently came across an app that did this, but can't for the life of me remember which it was. If it comes back, I'll let you know - but you could always search...
Agree. iOS is unsecured and it is nonsense to display pop-up alerts about my personal notifications while my phone is security locked. If you really want them you may try 3rd party apps like Friendcaster for Facebook and Handcent SMS.
I use widgetlocker. I can pull my notification bar down while the screen is locked and go straight into an app with it. Also you can change the crap out of the lock screen if you want.

I'm using the latest CM9 KANG build and it has support for this.
It doesn't need to display personal information. It only needs to show what types of notifications you have. Personally, I don't care that much if someone reads my new emails. For messages and IM, it only needs to say you have a message from X. The rest of my notifications are not at all personal.
I tried Widget locker but didn't like it.
I'll definitely try CM9.
Thanks!

You can do this with stock locker also..
Indeed, you don't need a custom Rom, third party app, mod, or whatever.
You can just pull your notification screen down when your GN is locked. That is a standard function in ICS.

This only works with slide to unlock, if password code protected you can't drag down the notification bar(which the OP seems to want).

Since I couldn't find a solution I disabled security all together. This feature, especially with slide to costume apps added with AOKP is just too good to not use. I installed avast anti-theft and will lock my phone if it falls into the wrong hands.
BTW I recommend avast mobile security. It's free and has MUCH more options that seekdroid and where's my droid.

How do I remove the Sense Lock Screen?

I realise that the sense lock screen seems to run interdependently from the ICS lock screen. Which means I can disable the ICS lock screen, but I will still encounter the sense lock screen. That kinda sucks.
I have used apps like "No Lock" but it takes ages to wake up the device and is buggy.
Any guys have any idea? I'm not really keen not having any lock screen...
Thanks for reading!
dun think u can do it yet...
I agree, that's just an idiotic design. If I use any method of securing my phone, it takes three tasks to get in:
* Press power button
* Drag silly ring around
* Perform ICS unlock task (face, pin, whatever)
That's just daft. HTC, if you're listening, you need to provide a way to disable your lock screen.
for all there want theres lockscreen gone get
Keyguard Disabler its works on HTC One X

[Q] JB Lockscreen: Slide unlock before Security (PIN, pattern, etc)?

Hello,
I just installed a Jelly Bean rom (Vicious) on my galaxy nexus and for the most part everything works great. One "feature" that drives me crazy is that enabling any security (PIN, pattern, face unlock) disables the slide to unlock screen. The problem is that I really like the ability to use the camera (by sliding to the right) without having to punch in my PIN code and unlock the phone... Does anyone know if there is a setting or mod that allows for sliding before security?
Thanks much! Nick
Try widget locker - it lets you add both sliders to load apps and widgets of your choice to your lock screen, then once you slide-unlock you get to your pattern or pin unlock screen if you have one.
I have a fairly minimal set up but apparently you can do some fancy stuff with it - they have their own user forums.
Available in play store,$2.99.
If you want something free there's a couple of other apps that do something similar although with fewer options (not tried by me).

Best lockscreen replacement?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a rather particular lockscreen that I just can't seem to find. I'm wondering if anyone on here could help me find a good one. Features I'm looking for:
-some form of security (PIN or pattern)
-SMS notifications at the LEAST (compatible with third party texting apps like Textra). I would prefer to have all notifications available on my lockscreen, but I can live with just SMS.
-Integrated music controls
-Custom screen timeout time
-Elegant looking
So far the closest I've found was ACDisplay, but there's a couple of things I don't like about it. Firstly, having to click a notification to view it defeats its purpose. I want to be able to glance at my phone to see who texted me without having to touch it. Also, every so often I'll get the "swipe down to exit full-screen mode notification." Snaplock came close, but the music integration is sub-par and there lacks custom screen timeout. Anyone have ideas?
try "My Locker"..............................limit is your imagination only

I guess you are on kitkat or below, as the G3's Lollipop lockscreen does feature notifications! As well as optional security (pin, knock code, facial recognition) and looks quite minimalistic. So if you're not on Android L yet, you coukd give it a shot otherwise I recommend the same locker as stated in the previous comment:good:
I don't agree. LG's 5.0 lockscreen is terrible. Notifications might display, but you can't open them when you tap on lockscreen like you do on stock android, but you have to unlock the screen, pushdown notification tray and then click notification (wtf LG?). The second killer of LG's 5.0 lockscreen is that when you put swipe to unlock, sometimes it fails to unlock. Even though I swipe, the screen stays locked and you have to swipe again to unlock. That happens to me in 20% of unlocking screen so I removed lockscreen altogether and now found third party lockscreen which isn't much better, but at least it unlocks when I swipe it.

About notifications....
Actually, coming from Nexus 4 with Lollpop, I was dissapointed to see my new LG G3 having trouble with notifications:
Lockscreen always show notifications, BUT swiping left or right doesn't open the corresponding app (ex. dialer for unanswered calls), NEITHER double clicking on the notification does... INSTEAD I have to click one time the notification and after that swipe the lower part of the lockscreen to unlock and go to the corresponding app... It just feels akward to me... Any solutions?
And something else: sometimes when i swipe down the notification bar, i can see the app name and instead of the message i see: hiden content!!! But this is not all the times... Do you believe i have something wrong on the settings?
Thanks in advance...

Unlocking the phone, right after tapping a notification opens that notification for me. Seems a little odd but I've gotten used to it.
Not using any PIN/Knock/Pattern.

Question Is there a way to change lockscreen shortcuts?

With Android 12, Google brought back the lock screen shortcuts on Pixels, but they're not very useful for me: the device controls and your mobile wallet. You have to unlock your phone anyway before using either, and I have quick settings to use once unlocked, so lockscreen shortcuts don't really do anything for me.
Is there any way to change those shortcuts? Presumably with adb or something. I'd rather have the old camera and assistant shortcuts.
Pixel 6P, not rooted, full stock, all software up to date.
I don't really get it: you can always disable those two shortcuts on the lock screen setting if you don't really like them; and for the two which you are looking for, Google implemented them in gesture with the power button: one long click for Google Assistant and double quick clicks for the camera.
And if you are rooted, @Typhus_ 's Add_On magisk module has a feature to put the camera short cut on the lock screen.
I don't want them disabled, I like having something there. I just want something else.
