[Q] Installed Clockworkmod from Market. Same as Odin? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just rooted my phone using Zedomax's guide and I want to flash the Starburst ROM but I downloaded Clockworkmod in the market. Is it the same as using Odin to install Clockworkmod? Will I run into any issues using Clockworkmod from the Market?

Clockworkmod recovery is what you need to get and it is not available in the market. You will need to use Odin to flash one of the kernels in the development section that has Clockwork included. After that, you can use it instead of Odin for almost all flashing needs.

I got confused with thos 2(rom manager and clockworkmod) but i used the market one to flash backup and restore with no issues.

What you downloaded from the market is ROM Manager from the same person he maintains the official versions of Clockworkmod. It integrates with CWM to allow for easier flashing of custom ROMs and what not. Unfortuantely the E4GT is still not officially support so you will have to use CWM manually for the time being.

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery Help!

Hi i am trying to install CWM Recovery for my galaxy w but can someone tell me the difference between installing CWM like this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446593) and installing it by downloading ROM Manager from the market (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en) and use the option Flash CWM Recovery as seen in the first app screenshot.
Head to Dev section there is a thread on ClockworkMod Recovery esp. made by arco68...use the Odin method.
Flashing via ROM Manager is not advisable yet....

Better not use the ROM Manager App method, unless somebody confirmed it is working.
I bricked my Galaxy Ace a year ago using that method when I didn't know better.
When you try to do it via the CWM application you get a list of supported devices.
You will not find the wonder in there, trying to use other device will probably end you up with a brick.
I have tried the recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-ancora.zip by using adb shell method. It works without any problem.

[Q] Update CWM Recovery

Hi all! xD
I want to know, how to update mi CMW Recovery on my T-Mobile G2
Currently, I have the ver. 3.0.4.0, and I saw in CMW's page, that the newest is the 5.0.2.7 (non-touch) and 5.8.1.0 (touch)
I heard, that if I update the recovery from the Rom Manager, it may break down everything D:!!!!
So, the question is....Will be everything alright if I Update the recovery from the ROM Manager? xD
And another thing, is it advisable to use touch recovery? Or it's better the clasic one?
Thanks a lot
first off i love the touch recovery, much easier so go that route. also i prefer 4ext recovery as i like the ui and it feels faster and has a few more options. but if you realy want to stay with koush id be suprised updating through rom manager would cause problems, if it did that would be another reason in my book not to use it. but you can always take the latest version and update via fastboot, adb or terminal emulator if needed

Yes it is fine to update through ROM Manager.
If you are wanting touch recovery it can be achieved through rom manager but you must pay for it think it's only 99cents or if you go to clockworkmod.com you can download it for free the install process is different though Google it can't remember how I achieved it but was easy and worth it

Team Epic or Official CWM????

I just got my S3 and used mskips amazing toolkit to root/install recovery etc. But it seems it has installed 5.5.0.4 which from my knowledge is the modded version from Team Epic. The recovery works perfect minus the backup date stamp. I was thinking may as well upgrade to the official CWM 5.8.4.7 and also get touch. But have read that it has some SD card issues and also the backup stamp is the same as Team Epic.
Anyone know if CWM fixed the issues in the recovery? Also in mskip's 2.3 toolkit I don't see CWM available for the Bell S3 am I alright in just flashing AT&T?
I know it should be fine since its the same device and was the case with my i9000M, but better be safe then sorry.
You should use TWRP. IMO its better than CWM and has more features.

I also like TWRP better. Once I installed it on my Kindle Fire I would never go back. Don't get me wrong CWM is an excellent recovery and CWM touch is great. Its mostly user preference.
care to explain the differences besides the user interface? Why is it better then CWM?

Read that thread. It gives all the details.

Download the .img from here
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/104
place it in the root of your sdcard then use dd from terminal emulator (or adb shell)
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-2.2.1-d2att.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Thats how i did it (multiple times) and didn't lose my imei.
If I have Team Epic's CWM, and I want to update my rooted S3 from UCALG1 to UCALH9, how would I go about doing that? The OTA H9 thread by drothenberger mentions it won't work if you have Team Epic Recovery Mod.

Just use the latest 6.0.1.4 Touch Recovery from CWM. No date issues and can see ext card just fine. Thats what I used when using drothenberger method.

SGS2 usb Jig on SGS3?

Im upgrading to an SGS3 from SGS2 and am curious whether the SGS2 usb jig will work on the SGS3 for resetting the flash counter?
Nope. You have to use triangle away. But if you utilize the no trip root method and install TWRP from goo manager you will never increment the flash counter.

I've only ever used 4EXT and CWM, am able to install CWM from TWRP recovery? This phone seems to use a different recovery method than I've used. I take it it's not incorporated into the Kernel like SGS2 where I can just flash a kernel with CWM.
I just saw the "Stupid Question" thread where this probably could have been asked so I apologize for starting a new thread for this question.
The S3 does not follow the same method of recovery as the S2. Kernels do not come with a recovery. You have to install the recovery manually. You can either use zips found in the recovery's thread or you can utilize goo manager to install TWRP (menu>install openscript recovery) or ROM manager to install CWM.

Twrp is similar to 4ext and cwm. Use it the same way.
So does this mean that 4EXT is an accepted recovery console for the I747? I have been reading a ton and I see so many people flashing with CWM and no one has mentioned 4EXT. Just wanting to make sure before taking the dive with my favorite recovery software.
Thanks!

Honestly you will be better off with TWRP. I have completely stopped using CWM due to several issues it was involved in. So far not a single issue with TWRP. It's a quick download and install from the market, install the recovery from the app, and your good as gold.
1 thing to remember, as the devices get newer, some methods that you may be used to doing such as 4EXT may no longer be valid anymore.
Got it. I appreciate the quick reply and the heads up. Much props!
Forget about 4ext, it's no longer relevant now that you have the S3. Pick either CWM or TWRP (I recommend TWRP) and move on.

As others have suggested, go with TWRP. Used 4ext when I had my Inspire and loved it. However, check 4ext out on the Play Store and you'll find the S3 isn't listed as compatible. Tried CWM on the S3, and had issues, so switched to twrp and haven't looked back.

Rooted using Oding and Root66, how do I flash custom recovery?

Ok, so I finally got root with ODIN and the Root66 file. Now I want to flash a custom ROM. First I have to flash a custom recovery right guys? How do I do that. Last time I had rooted, I had TWRP which I liked. Where do I get TWRP and how do I flash it if it applies to android 4.1.2?
Download goo manager from the play store, open it and press menu and select install OpenRecoveryScript. Just follow along with the pop ups and you'll have TWRP in no time.
Then you'll be able to flash roms...stay in the t999 section and you really shouldn't run into any problems. Oh and look into backing up your imei before you start to flash roms.

using goo manager on t999n
Using the method mentioned above does not work for me, no support yet for the newer one. Are there really any good roms yet for the T999n?

Do you really want TWRP or would you be okay with CWM? I know you can just download ROM manager and flash CWM. If not, you can use [ROOT]Recovery Tools - Flasher from the Play Store.
It can flash TWRP or CWM. I use it for flashing CWM Touch on my Nexus 7. It works great.
