Just installed Kies for drivers and noticed two of the drivers say LTE. Anybody else notice this? Probably nothing but sort of weird.
i'm sure it's a generic name in reference to HSPA+ / LTE basically in reference to 4G
Ooook, not trying to beat a dead horse here but found some more interesting stuff. First, gsmarena posted news about an upcoming LTE Samsung device for AT&T which looks eerily similar to the Hecules with 1.5ghz dual-core processor. Link-->http://www.gsmarena.com/lteenabled_htc_vivid_and_samsung_galaxy_s_ii_skyrocket_hit_at_t-news-3335.php
Next, if you use short code *#2263# on our phones it gives you a band selection menu which includes LTE bands. I know the presence of these menus doesn't necessarily mean the bands are included but I don't remember seeing these in my Vibrant.

T mobile might end up rolling out LTE, hopefully we get a update that will allow us to connect to it.

Actually, my theory is the Hercules and the Skyrocket are the same save for some slight cosmetic differences. Meaning our phone may be LTE capable but the bands are currently locked out.
Very interesting...
I would be thrilled if our phone actually physically supports LTE.

ok so based on what i just saw under wcdma it shows bands 850 900 1700 1900 and 2100 but doesnt actually select the all of those bands. When i tried it i could get on every band except for 900.
a * shows up on the band that you select. But when you select 900 it doesnt show a * after going back in the menu. Just shows the previously selected band. Same goes for the lte bands.
So i think that it shows all possible bands that other varients of the phone can connect to probably because of the same software but those bands arent actually on this phone

You are right. On the box of this phone it says it supports 850 1700 1900 2100 but no 900, and the fact that you can't select 900 in that software agrees with this. So not being able to select any LTE bands is a good indication that this phone doesn't physically support it.

So the previous filling which was found in early april (filed on Feb 11, 2009) and was though to be t-mobile's rhodium although the test report showed it was sporting At&t's 3G bands, 1900 and 850MHz, is now outlived by a newer filing.
Issue date April 02, 2009 FCC ID NM8RHOD210 with t-mobile's 3G 1900mhz and 1700mhz

I thought T-Mobile 3G freq. is 1700/2100 AWS... Where's the 2100 freq. in the FCC docs? I couldn't find it...
OPPS... nevermind. I just checked the FCC docs for the htc dream (aka G1) and they only list the 1700 AWS downlink freq. also. So... I wonder what the 1900 WCDMA band is for? It's BAND I, so does that mean Europe or possibly for AT&T also?! I thought Band II was 1900...

Thanks for clearing that up! The Wiki definitions weren't that clear to me...
fone_fantatic, I was wondering that same thing, in regards to the dates of the FCC filings. Everything is of course rumors at this point, but it's been said that T-Mobile will be selling it first. However, as you said, the first model to pass FCC was clearly not T-Mo, contrary to original postings. Thing is, that doesn't confirm or deny anything either. T-Mobile could still have rights to selling the phone first. We do at least have a rumored (there's that word again) date on T-Mobile, but I haven't heard a word about an at&t release, though the TP2 is clearly listed for them in that HTC roadmap layout.

Never thought I'd see the day I would actually be able to use my Nokia E63 on 3G bands...its only 5 years late lol.
Now I'm a bit confused...if they use the AWS band for LTE, what about our phones that use AWS for HSPA+?
Our phone doesn't support att's lte but it does support 1900mhz 3g/4g
Newer Tmo phones will have lte most likely

The phones will probably use multiple bands at the same time ... hspa+ on one and LTE on another. Right now our SGS2 gets dual band hspa+
Cool deal. Although the best news ever for me, as a T-mobile customer, would be something along the lines of "Dear Loyal 10 year T-mobile customer, we are proud to inform you that your bill will be FREE forever, thank you for your continued loyalty."
I was thinking that T-Mobile have a sharing agreement with Sprint with in regards to LTE. I'm liking this plan much better with finally joining other 3G phones. I'm probably going to pick up an old 3 unlocked phone as a back up now in the near future.

guys... you do know that LTE data packets are not the same as 3G data right?
so even if they are on 1900 radio frequency it does not mean they can get 3G 1900 on LTE 1900 and vice versa
the guy that wrote that piece of engadget was totally wrong in assuming that
yeah...I've owned a few phones, my E63 never received 3G under Tmo, it was a UMTS 850 / 1900 device, it worked with AT&T just fine. My N1 and NS were HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100; both supposedly only compatible with T-Mo's AWS. And our t989 is HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100...working with both Tmo and ATT's 3g UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+.
LTE is a completely different technology by my understanding...if they use the AWS band for LTE...phones like the Nexus S and One would cease to work on 3g, correct?

using your assumption
if they use AWS band 1700 + 2100 for LTE like they are doing in Canada (Rogers, Bell, Telus) then yes, it will mean AWS phones made for HSPA 1700 / 2100 will not work on those 3 networks
because the technology is different, and thus data packets are different, even if they are on the same radio frequency
luckily in the case of the SGH-i727 counter part of our phone, is enough to flash it with the correct modem to get HSPA AWS instead of LTE AWS
however the case with the 1900 LTE frequency, does not enable current 1900 HSPA phones to work on LTE
This is a double edged sword. It will draw 10's of thousands, if not 100's of thousands of iPhones users to T-Mo with the promise of cheaper plans. Then they will congest the network, T-Mo will raise prices to increase bandwidth and we all loose out.
Don't our T989's have LTE ready to go (for the most part)? I am trying to upload a screenshot but xda is saying it has an improper file extension... *#2263#

There is almost no activity yet for the T-mobile NOTE 2 forum
Anyway, for the next 20 hours or so, DAily Steals has the Note II pretty cheap,
http://lastcall.dailysteals.com/
It says its unlocked and my dad ordered one, I want to make sure that it will work with T-mobile and still use HSPA+42
I looked at the specs for both the GSII and found
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
The unlocked Note II on dailysteals is
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
If not, he will cancel his order
Thanks
Samsung has done an amazing job for the gs3 and note 2. My buddy got a note 2 and loves it to death. He sold his gs3, which he only rooted but never installed another ROM on it. It performed amazingly well with the stock ROM. Same goes for the note 2 I assume which has been receiving amazing reviews. If it ain't broke don't fix it right? Besides the phone JUST released during the week. What kind of progress did you expect in the forum when the phone hasn't even been out for a week? Lol

Yeah, I think 2100 is our hspa+ network
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
1700 is our hspa+. a few cities are on 1900 such as las vegas and KC
sucks.. oh well, my dad canceled the order!
People canceling their orders because it's not compatible with tmos 42 Mbit hspda??? THATS ****ING ASININE. When have you EVER seen a phone achieve this speed? NEVER. The note 2 and the 42mbit capable chip in this phone achieve the same download speeds!! People please!! Don't you remember how we were all upset that tmobile chose to include the slower s3 SoC in this phone instead of the superior exynos SoC found in every other GSII? This is insanity. Appreciate the quick response! You say I won't be able to fall back to Verizons CDMA (3G) network, but looking at the description of the phone it has all of Verizons CDMA capabilities.

WCDMA is NOT the same as CDMA.
It's confusing, but let me explain.
3G (or UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+) uses technology that is based on CDMA..but it's called Wideband CDMA (WCDMA)...whereas Sprint and Verizon just use "regular" CDMA.....so this phone WILL NOT WORK with Verizon CDMA.
So with active Sim can use the zenfone 2 on Verizon. But no service in 3g areas?

no, I bought one without thinking about compatability, put my SIM card in, it recognized the card but it would not find service. The device had a 'network finder' in settings and found ATT, but not VZ. I called up support to see if there was ANY way to make it work, no. The ZF2 will not work at all on Verizon. Had to ship it back... :crying:
ZenFone2 (ZE551ML) will work on GSM carrier's networks in North America. However, CDMA carriers such as Verizon and Sprint do not work with this device. The 2 major GSM carriers here in the USA are AT&T and T-Mobile. For more info please see our FAQ and Zenfone Quick Service support sites:

I don't have one of these handsets so I cannot confirm this will solve radio programming problems this device probably exhibits. The problem with affordable great phones is they hamper Verizon's other handsets and therefore threaten the business model. Sad times, but this is what has me waiting patiently for the market of blok phones to appear.

Man i really hate Verizon! However i live in the middle of nowhere and Verizon is the only service we can use. Verizon never gets any good phones or if it does it makes sure it pressures the manufacturer into locking them down.
It's not just about the phones being locked but CDMA and GSM using different hardware and software. Most of the LTE phones sold by Verizon and Sprint are unlocked however you still need correct hardware and software to make it work on GSM networks. To say nothing of the least of making sure you have the correct bands.
If you're wanting this phone because of its dual sim, you need to pass. This phone used subpar and outdated hardware on Sim 2 and is firmware blocked for data using only 2G for voice/text. 2G is already being shut down by AT&T in the states and T-Mobile is following. This "Flagship" dual sim phone is actually going to be a single sim phone for those of us in the states in about a year. I got suckered and am now looking for another phone. There are plenty of companies out there offering up to date hardware at the same price.
From what I can see, the GSM unlocked version doesn't support Band 17. Can anyone confirm?
If you are talking about the US version, the GSM unlocked version of Z (not play) supports LTE band 17. Z Play unlocked version most likely will be the same.
The listing on B&H does have band 2 and 4, but not 17. Might be an issue on AT&T.
If you really need that band, you might look at the Mexican version. It supports: 4G LTE (B1, B2, B3, B4-AWS, B5, B7, B8, B12, B17, B19, B20, B28, B38, B40, B41)
This makes no sense for the unlocked version of the phone to not support AT&T's primary band for LTE. But to sell the identical phone in mexico with that band supported.... Maybe an error on motorolora.com?
I placed an order and then realized at&t might not actually supported. I tried to cancel and they make it impossible to do so. We'll see what happens but I'd be shocked if its not. I only looked because I was curious about band 30.
I have the Moto G4 2016 XT1625 and Motorola website doesn't mention band 17 for this phone either, but according to Signal check lite app it shows I'm connected to B17. So I must be a typo on their part? Let us know when you get your phone if you get B17

1) signalcheck isn't entirely accurate. It uses a database to infer lte band (based on network tower sector ID and other stuff). It doesnt ask the phone modem for the actual info
2) att's 700mhz block b+c spectrum falls under both band 12 and 17 now(12 is a superset of 17). Att broadcasts on both band 12&17 on the network side via mfbi, att will push for band 12 on newer phones instead of 17(17 will be deprecated, but continue to be used network side to support legacy band 17-only phones)
Both Band 17 or 12 phones can connect to this spectrum (aka your g4 2016 works on att's 700mhz). Again, due to (1), signalcheck might have old data saying it's band 17 even though your phone is technically connecting to band 12.
3) moto z play doesn't have 12 or 17... So who knows?
Thank you for the explanation! Well I guess I won't be looking at Moto Z Play then.

Currently I get LTE on my Moto X Pure on AT&T, when my moto z play arrives today (hopefully soon) I will report back. Honestly though I only get 5 mbps on AT&T LTE where i live anyways so HSPA+ probably wont be much different in terms of speed. Data limits and local network server make me want to use wifi anyways.

Thanks for app! Looks like after all I am not on B17
Interesting... being on band 12 is OK. AT&T uses 17 (B,C) but 12 has A,B and C. I hope the numbers on their website are a mistake. I'm in the process of attempting to procure a mexican model but if this is true I can pick up the one off motorola.com
Just recieved my Moto Z Play (US Version). Put in my AT&T sim and boom I have LTE. I will check what band in a few minutes.
Edit: I tried checking what band I am using with the network signal guru, but it wouldnt tell me. LTE works regardless.
Awesome... looking forward to your results

Not sure how to screen shot (I'm not used to stock android ), but LTE discovery is telling me I am on Band 17.
Edit: I figured it out, but XDA wont let me upload an image for some reason, so here is an Imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/V16ip
Fascinating... Soooo i guess maybe i try it? Anyone know motos return policy offhand

try cclick the first wizard like button on top left (1st icon)
select band locking (not sure if you can select without root)
select LTE or wcdma or gsm,
depends on which one you need to check
and it will show all band which are supported from your phone

Hi..It would be great if you could give your APN Settings. My phone only shows "H" and no LTE.. I do not know if the phone does not have the bands or it is an ATT issue.. Thanks!

Does your phone still have a whole bunch of different apn settings in the apn menu? If so, I would select the apn setting with nxtgenphone or pta, I had a problem with not getting lte at first when I first got my phone but playing around and rebooting a few times eventually gave me lte.
