i have two.
1.bad flash = redownload the file, wipe, and flash rom 2x in a row.
2.bad phone = ODIN back to stock to see if you have same problem. if not go back to 1, if yes go to sprint store

Sounds like a bad flash or hardware issues, if you want you could odin back to stock completely and check whether the issue persists or not.

if it did this on your last rom, or across multiple roms, u have a hardware problem. if u redownload your rom, them wipe cache and dalvik 3x ea, then flash on top of your existing rom, it could clear that up. if not, try a 3x data wipe before reflashing rom.

Sorry if this isn't in the right forum, I'm fairly new here. Anyways, ever since EC05 was installed on my phone a few days ago, I've been having nothing but problems. AFter it first installed, the phone would freeze about every 5 seconds, then vibrate a few times and restart itself. After numerous resets, it finally started working. Then my ringers went bad, and my text messages do not go through. Various apps force close, and my phone dialer freezes up when trying to call someone.
Is there any way to re-flash the EC05? I'm thinking I just had a bad flash, since my girlfriend has the same phone and hers is fine. If there is, can you guys please tell me how to do it (preferably without data loss).
Thank You.
I forgot, I'm on stock rom and not rooted.

this thread has the update.zip for stock ec05.
should be able to download it
copy to sd card
reboot to recovery and install update.zip
I've not used that file; so read a few of the first and last pages to see if there were any bumps in the road using it.
hope that helps

Do I have to Odin back to Dl18? Or can I just reflash it over EC05? And do you know if my phone will be wiped? Sorry for all of the questions...

No problem; I believe the update.zip doesn't wipe.
You shouldn't have to go back to install it.
You can always use MyBackup Pro (in the market) its free for like 30 days, to backup your apps and data, call log and text messages.
Then you can get it all back if it does (though I don't think it will), never a bad thing to run a backup.

before flashing any of the roms, did you do a wipe of the cache and dalvik? if so, did you try installing them a couple of times, just to make sure the phone got the install correctly? and if so, have you tried a factory reset?
That's strange, have you tried the EI22 modem? If that doesn't fix it, try using an app like Sanity to control when your speakerphone is on and off... it might be able to force speakerphone off when you pick up a call.

Can someone tell me if this is a software or hardware issue. I've been rooted for quite a while btw, not a noob. Since last night the phone will randomly reboots itself after a few minutes of turning on. I can't get it to stay on for an extended period of time without rebooting. Also, if I turn it off, it turns itself back on. During the moments it is on, if I press the lock button nothing happens. The screen doesn't turn off. The only way I keep it off is by pulling the battery. You'd think itd have to do with the ROM, but I've been on the 7/13 build of AOKP since it came out, so almost a month now. This issue didn't arise until yesterday, also I'm not underclocking/undervolting. It's using the default TWRP recovery that came with it. So, is it a hardware issue? Should I take it in for replacement??
Hmmm If I was you I'd definitely try another rom or something . Maybe back up what you have and try a simple One click sfhub package to see if the problem still exists... Weird stuff happens some times
And if it happens on another rom/one click, then yeah its safe to say to take it in to Sprint

I've had that sort of thing happen when I flashed a new ROM and the download was corrupted... flashed it again and the same thing happened.. I had to re-download the file and then flash and all was good. I'd guess it was a software issue.. I'd wipe everything, download a new ROM (check the md5) and flash all new stuff..
I had the same issue on milestone 6. Went stock for a few days, then to another build and I have been OK.Remember all that glitters isn't gold.Sometimes "unofficial" builds me just that. Not 100% ready.
That's a Rom issue not hardware, oh that's right your on ics, no wonder. Gingerbread will fix that in a jiffy.

I've been on the ROM for almost a month now and this issue didn't surface until today? I don't think it has to do with the ROM per se. Luckily for whatever reason it stopped, but I'm still curious as to what caused it in the first place should it ever happen again.
Turning itself on sounds like your button is stuck. I know of no ROM that can boot your phone when powered off.
Aokp aosp builds are extremely different that TW based roms.I'm way to sick and tired to fully explain. Please know that yes bugs and issues can still arise after some time.Mainly from the complex nature of coding and modifying. Be happy your phone is still working. Customizing a build with all those feature is nice but sometimes it's not worth it

Lol, that's what I'm thinking. Now it's only rebooting every few hours or so. Very strange.
phone keeps rebooting while navigating in recovery mode.
tried stockcwm el26
any repack on ics
always randomly rebooting when navigating through the menus.
any clues on what might be wrong? thanks

Rebooting during recovery mode menus?
Odd...I've never had this happen, but it sounds like you have a bad download...try to download again & reflash...could be your cable...believe it or not, the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution does not apply, all data cables WERE NOT created equal....try a different one. For that matter, a different USB port too.
Download ODIN again...whatever you did, do it all again, but with different stuff. You can never be too cautious playing with this stuff.
I have that stock rooted el26 & use it prior to flashing ROMS on my E4GT's when I buy them...I've probably put it on 50+ at this point & have never encountered this, and based off the fact your phone is still alive - logic dictates either it's a bad phone (Im guessing you would have noticed erratic behavior prior to this) or it was just a SNAFU during the update which is the horse I'm betting on. :good:
Hit "Thanks" if any of this helped (or at least entertained you)
Your power button may be going out as well.
When in doubt, I agree on re-download, maybe different cable, etc. Never had issues with recovery.

They wont do anything if the device has a custom recovery. It is not hard to take the device apart for a fix, but you can always go to http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-epic-4g-touch-power-button-repair/ and they will do it. They do amazing work and the turn around time is incredible.

no i didnt i only wiped it after flashing trying to solve the s note problem, my phone is really tilting and i dunno what to do, tried reflashing and wiping multiple times but no use!
If you come from custom rom, then wipe data and cache partition is required before flashing stock roms. Else some part of last roms remain in system and can create problems.
You can also try by clear data of snote from application setting section.

i had same kind of problem with s note after flashing it with a custom ROM in my gtn 8000. It troubled me alot but finally got the solution by installing languages in keyboard setting.
go to setting>language and inputs >click on settings of Samsung keyboard>choose Handwriting> choose Input languages
u will see lot of languages to download.
download any one of them........................ wait for finishing installation...
Hope it works for u as it did for me.
if does nt work no hard feelings..
I had the same issue, reloaded firmware, clear data and cache with no fix. I thought about to do a factory reset, but just b4 I was going to do it. I suddenly have an idea just flashed in my mind. This is what I did.... go to setting > my device > S pen > put a check mark on the "Open Popup Note when the pen is detached". Then back to the home screen, pull out the S pen and a mini S note will open. Close it and now you should be able to open the regular S Note. It works on my Note 2. Good luck guys.
