mini usb extender cable?

I would like to install my microphone in my car, but the cable is only about 18 inches long, and I need to run it behind the dash and up the window pillar. Does anybody know where to get an extender cable for mini usb? I have googled for hours and found all kinds of usb cables, but all the minis go from a regular usb to mini, not mini male to mini female. The other option would be to find a mic cable that is about 4 feet long to begin with.
why not get a mini male to normal male and a normal female to normal male ?
mind you usb is max 5m
about
"mic cable that is about 4 feet long "
then you have to renember it would work as a pretty good antenna reciving noise and
maybe even a fm radiostation
aaah btw when you talk about mics and usb then normal usb dont carry any type of audio
so if you're talking about extUSB as in the connector type htc invented which is miniUSB plus audio then
you cant use normal usb cables
What is the connector on the MIC?
Is it not a 3.5mm headphone style adapter? Or even the 2.5mm mini size used on my mobile phones?
If so, then why not get a splitter to split the audio out of the extUSB to a 3.5mm jack, as 3.5mm extender cables are easy to come by.
what I have is a mini usb to a mic that has a 3.5 adaptor so you can add your own headphones. The cable length is about 18 inches. a 3.5 extender cable would only extend the adaptor for the headphones, not the microphone. As for going from "mini male to normal male and a normal female to normal male" I just don't see how that gets me anywhere. My cable has a male mini usb, so to extend it I need a mini female to mini male. That suggestion seems to get me a mini male to normal male, which would work on my computer, but not extend my microphone. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks
it's extusb and normal usb cables cant be used to extend anything

normal usb cables dont have all the lower pins only extusb have those

HTC ExtUSB 11 Pin USB

hi , i have a touch pro 2
is there any diffrent between the ExtUSB 11 Pin USB connector to a regular mini usb , they both can charge my device but looks slightly diffrent on one edge..
ExtUSB 11 Pin USB looks like this : http://www.podgizmo.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=29
and a regular mini usb looks like this : http://i.expansys.com/i/b/b154871.jpg
can i use both ? would it be dangerous to my device?
yes, in general, you can use both.
yes its a normal mini usb port with an xtra 7 contacts on the underside for "video out"/ect so u can use a normal 4pin usb cable or a 2pin charge only cable.
A mini USB is 5 pins (not 4 as a standard USB) so there are 6 more in HTC's implementation - please see sample pictures attached.
Can you buy these cables anywhere? Or is the only option to cannibalize an existing headset? Would be nice to get my hands on a couple of fully wired ones as I suspect the headset one omits the USB wires.

mod notes on the XOOM (original) standard & speaker docks

plenty of people have modded the original XOOM docks for USB host, such as here.. and here...
i also dissected the standard and speaker docks this past week, just wanted to share my observations:
standard dock:
- uses a regular charger and just passes through the ~12v to the dock charging pins
- the micro USB connection uses 200k ohms between the ID pin and ground to signal the tablet that it's in a dock
- the audio adapter circuitry (which provides the line-out) connects via the micro USB port and is powered completely via that port (not via the external charger connection)
speaker dock:
- uses a separate charger that comes with the dock, rated at 19v and 1.58 amps. the extra power is likely needed to drive the amp for the speakers
- the internal circuitry steps the voltage down only to ~13.3 volts for the tablet charging pins. interesting that they didn't need to be more precise, i guess the tablet's own internal regulators can accept a bit of a range (not just 12v)
- the micro USB ID pin to ground connection is at 200k ohms just like in the standard dock
- the audio adapter is connected via the micro USB just like in the standard dock.
- the HDMI port is completely a pass-through to the external plug on the dock, it provides no functionality to the dock circuitry
i converted the standard dock's microUSB connector to a USB OTG cable for a carputer project. of course by doing this i lost the audio adapter functionality. so i then tried to convert the audio adapter into a regular USB accessory and hook it up via the OTG cable and a powered hub (to enable me to get USB host AND still use the audio adapter). this didn't work and i'm really not sure why. it just wasn't seen at all (nothing new in the dmesg output). i at least expected to see an unrecognized accessory from dmesg if nothing else.

[Q] USB OTG + Charging via HUB and wallmount charger

so basically what I have is USB OTG cable not the Y one . and a hub . what I wanna ask if what if I plug my charger into the usb hub will the phone charge? and if I plug a flash disk will it mount and charge the phone without breaking it? . if im too confusing I meant to use a M to M usb port from charger then to the hub to power it.
Try it.

No.
It will only charge if the OTG cable has a 124K resistor from pin 4 to pin 5.
Your OTG cable has a short between ping 4 and pin 5, and as such the tablet will drive VCC out.
you would be plugging it into a host port on the hub anyway, which is not powered.
you will need a Y cable, and the SW on the N7 doesn't currently do both charging and OTG simultaneously, this is something I (and hopefully others) are trying to sort out.
