1) Does flashing the DZ engineering HBOOT (needed for Virtuous ROMs etc.) remove the carrier / subsidy / SIM unlock on the phone? I bought my phone unlocked and don't want to have to unlock it again.
2) I read a thread somewhere about issues with Clockworkmod recovery versions and DZ HBOOT. In particular, if I make a nandroid backup with CWM 5.0.2.0 and then flash the HBOOT which would probably include CWM 3.0.2.4, will my nandroid restore fail? Does the version of CWM matter? What would I do if it did fail?
I want to try out some latest sense ROMs, but I'm scared of this HBOOT lark
As I understand,
Point 1
Flashing the engHboot will not give you carrier unlock, you need to use gfree for that(just reread you post, it will not relock a carrier)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision
Point 2
Before changing Hboot If I were you I would downgrade Clockworkmod recovery to 3.0.2.4 make a backup then flash the hboot as per the method over at virtuous ROM dont think backups are backwards compatible,After flashing the engHboot i would strongly recommend changing your recovery to 4ext
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271775
Its based on clockwork recovery but is far superior IMHO
So I went ahead and flashed the DZ HBOOT this morning. I first downgraded to CWM 3.0.2.4 as you suggested before making my nandroid backup. I followed the instructions on the Virtuous ROM website and everything went smoothly. Only thing that didn't happen as expected was that I didn't end up at the HTC boot screen - I had to manually reboot out of the bootloader by pressing the power button before I got to that screen. No problems getting into recovery after that, and no problems with the nandroid restore.
Now I can get myself into some more trouble flashing a Sense 3 ROM
did you have any problems with calling people on the sense rom? i installed the sensewich rom and i cant make calls. i cant hear people on the other line but they can hear me. i tried updating the radio and changed back to stock g2 rom but still nothing works.

Dear xda members,
I'm currently stuck on a problem with my Desire.
I had to Unroot my Desire because it needed to be repaired. Now that's done and I want to get it rooted again the only problem is, I now have HBOOT 0.93.
I've tried to unroot it with UnRevoked and installed ClockWorkMod as custom recovery. and I'm not trying to get it back to HBOOT 0.80 with a PB99IMG file but that doesn't work.
I installed a Custom rom through the ClockWorkMod Recovery, Custom Rom Ginger Villain but it doesn't boot.
I don't know what to do anymore? How can I get it back to HBOOT 0.80 or install a custom rom that does boot without problems?
Hope someone has the answer, I'll keep trying in the meantime!
This has nothing to do with your hboot version... Don't know why you would think so..
On gsm desire all current hboot versions are rootable, and i take it you have got it rooted without trouble on hboot 0.93 so there is no problem.
If the phone doesn't boot a fresh install of a custom rom even after a full wipe something is wrong, but do you get an error in recovery when flashing?
Also what was repaired? If your mainboard was replaced there is a good chance you have got the new hw revision which means you will need an alternate recovery.
I thought maybe the custom rom wasn't made for the HBOOT version or wasn't supported, thought they were related.
and I think I got it rooted because there wasn't any error with Unrevokedand I got a recovery.
I didn't get any errors installing the custom rom.
My IMEI didn't change so I don't think the Mainboard is replaced?
There was a problem with the speaker.
But should I just install another rom and try if that one works?
UPDATE:
After trying 4 RUU's I've finally got one that works. so now I'm back to Stock Froyo with Sense.
Guess I have to try it again now.
I'm trying to install Ginger Villain Again but again I only get a bootloop the whole time. I don't get any errors at all in the process only bootloops...
And I now have the exact same bootloop with Oxygen rom
I now got it back to HBOOT 0.83 but still with every Rom I get bootloops. Is there anything I missed? I got it rooted, got a recovery installed and wiped everything before installing.

Did u format SD Card and partitioned it as corresponding in the ROM Thread instructions?
For example if you flashing d2ext or app2sd ROM you need a FAT32 + EXT3/4 primary partitions (FAT32 always first!).
Lol had the same problem.
You did not clear all the cache and stuff. I cant remember all the ones.
think it is
cache
wipe phone data
davlik
not sure if there is another one
basically this is your problem. I wasted so much time figuring this out because i was too lazy to wipe them
all your roms will boot until you wipe your phone properly
I recently moved to CM7 and S-OFF. I used the alpha-rev method and flashed the CM7 hboot
Seeing the new Leedroid GB rom, I figured I'd give it a try. So I did a full backup, wiped everything, flashed the stock Hboot from Alpha-rev website, then flashed the Leedroid rom and... BOOTLOOP.
I then tried version 2.4, and same thing.
Following this I flashed Redux, which was nice but slow and I was able to confirm that I had 148 Mb of internal memory...
I then redownloaded Leedroid 3.0.5, thinking my file was perhaps corrupt, and still nothing...
I even tried restoring an my old CoolSenseHD 9 nandroid, which passed the splash screen, but looped at the boot screen.
Any ideas??
I had a similar problem. Go into CWM and format system, data and cache.
Well I'm on Ra-desire-v2.0.0 recovery, and when I do full wipe, it formats everything... something I've done about 10 times in the past 2 hours...
Any other ideas? Is RA somehow incompatible with sense? Should I switch to CWM with fastboot?
EDIT: I've managed to get a stock rooted rom to work... So why not LeeDroid???
i think your recovery is outdated, this can cause bootloops, something to do with your recovery version not able to handle new updater-script.
so update your recovery, you dont have to remove current one, just get the fake-flash.zip of any new recovery (clockworkmod 3.0.2.7) put it on ur sdcard, then in AmonRa select to flash the fake-flash.zip file and it should boot up CWM. then wipe all and flash the ROM.
other than that make sure you have correct partiton layout on ur sd (ext needed ofc) and obviously, correct hboot table.
I tried flashing the latest CWM, then wiping everything and flashing leedroid, but no luck. Then I tried putting AmonRA recovery back, and I tried once more, but still no luck. Then I tried flashing the latest Gingerbread MIUI, and that worked like a charm....
So that rules out my recovery being outdated, and I did flash the latest Radio, so that's good too... I really can't pinpoint the issue, but regardless, I'm really liking MIUI, so that's good I guess.
And as for partitioning, my SD card had a 500MB EXT3 partition for Leedroid, as specified on his page, and my partition table was set to Stock Bravo. I reflashed that Hboot about 4 times just to make sure...

As I said, I had this exact problem and solved it by formatting system in CWM. I could flash certain Roms like redux but not leedroid.
AmonRA does not have an option to format system, just wipe which is different.
But even with CWM, I couldn't do it...
I'm guessing it's because the boot.img is too big in the leedroid GB rom, and you have corrupted blocks which limit the allowable size or something. I have that problem with my Desire with certain roms.. which really sucks. Maybe it's because we have Telus branded Desire's lol....
Well I don't believe the Telus Desire is branded (no telus bloatware like other phones, no logo or anything)... I mean I never had to make a gold card, and I haven't been on stock since december...
I just find it wierd that I used to be able to run Froyo leedroid (version 2.3d), but now that I try and flash 2.4 (also froyo) or 3.0 (GB) I have no luck
Have you tried using the RUU to get stock ROM, use Unrevoked and then get the LeeDroid version you wanted?
Are you trying to load htc sense roms on cw7 hboot? Of course it won't work, there is not enough space for the rom.
^If you read my posts, you would know that I have not been using the CM7 HBoot, but the stock Hboot, which is why I was able to load a stock rooted sense rom.
The thing is, I'm afraid to use and RUU because Telus didn't modify their roms in anyway, so carrier RUUs don't exist, yet the phone is locked to Telus... I haven't created a gold-card yet because I haven't had to, yet I feel as though an RUU can jeopardize all of this.
Hi
I'm trying to flash a gingerbread rom to my desire but I always end up being stuck on the HTC logo. I tried several ROMS( opendesire, modaco with sense and without, some more too but can't remember the names,... ) The only gingerbread ROM that installs is CM7, but i have market problems that annoy the hell out of me ( can't find certain apps, need to hack to install bigger apps ). A shame because i really like CM, but i want to compare with others
Any idea why gingerbread won't flash correctly. I have tried several froyo ROMS without any issues before, by the way
I have
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
RADIO-5.14.05.17
thx
ntdst
Did you remember to wipe your data between each different install?
That's the most common problem when you get stuck at boot.
i use rom-manager and always create a back-up and wipe.
I also tried with an empty SD-Card and repartioned it ( with rom-manager ). The results are always the same, every gingerbread rom gets stuck. I thought there was something wrong with the partitions or maybe i need s-off for gingerbread... ?
What version of CWM do you have? Did you update manually to the new radio for the GB Roms?

I'm using Rom Manager v4.2.0.2
It is possible that i flashed that radio with a previous modaco sense/froyo ROM.
should i first flash that one you mention and then try again?
Okay, Rom Manager Is not a recovery What's your recovery exactly?
And what ROMs do you try to flash?
AFAIK, you need to flash that first in order to get booted.
sorry clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 is current recovery
I really tried several ROMS
Modaco sense gingerbread
Modaco without sense
opendesire
oxygen
etc...
all and always stuck on HTC Logo except for CM7, that one works fine except for the market issues
- Clockworkmod Recovery 3.x.x.x (Recommended to be used! 2.x recoveries MAY have some problems with the updater-script => boot loop)

I found this in one of the ROM threads.
So my suggestion:
First try to update the radio to the newest (alredy posted the link).
If that does not help, then try to update your recovery.
updating radio and flashing updates did not help
i'm still stuck when trying to install oxygen
I could use some help in updating my recovery. I f i do this with rom manager 2.5.0.7 is the most recent.
I seems there's a 2.5.1.2 out and 3.x.x.x is not advised. Is there an update zip somewhere to use?
People report that Insertcoin S v22 can be installed with 2.5.0.7
Make sure you do a full wipe in THE RECOVERY, not ROM Manager or any program.
Too boot into recovery hold down Power+Vol Down while phone is off.
There:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cahce
3. Under advanced menu > Wipe dalvik-cache
Also make sure your SD card is partitioned right.
And for the update - you can only update your recovery if you are S-OFF or you use Unrevoked3 with a custom recovery image.
Grab a copy of Ubuntu and check that the apps2sd partition on your card is formatted correctly. I tried all ways of formatting and partitioning (via clockwork/rom manager) and it never formatted correctly and always caused HTC boot sticking.
If I completely reformatted SD and reflashed an older rom (like Leedroid 2.3) would then boot fine. I then used Rom Manager to repartition & format SD, boot ubuntu (live CD is enough - no install required) then reformatted partition to EXT4, flashed and worked fine.
Also, is 2.5.0.7 your TRUE recovery version? Turn your phone on with vol-down held then select recovery - does the version change to an older one? If this is the case you may need to re-root is (Unrevoked) to update your recovery version permanantly.
Hope that helps.
If you are S-off you can flash newest recovery using fastboot, this flash would be permanent!
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-bravo.img
i agree with TMSsecret,
the gingerbread ROMs i have used seem to need a more recent version of HBOOT. First time I tried to flash LeeDroid 3.0.2, it didnt work. Applied S-OFF (which updates your HBOOT during the process) and tried again, worked no worries. Also, if you're keen to install the latest ROMs, upgrade to clockworkmod recovery 3.x... It took me a few tries to get FASTBOOT working properly (possibly because my version of windows XP has had too long to decompose), but if you persevere, it will work.
The best way to make sure your ROM will work is a thorough research session. Not slagging you at all, just pointing out the obvious. Look up everything to do with your intended ROM and read the threads.
Hello, at start sorry for my english but i have hope all will be clear.
My situation:
1. i had have Wildfire with stock froyo WWE 2.22.405.1
2. Copule days ago alpharex X open beta show : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129913
3. i make by alpharev x my wildfire to be S-OFF
4. I follow this instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 to flash clockworkmod "Wildfire_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip" from FASTBOOT USB
5. i make backup of current froyo WWE 2.22.405.1 rom by Wildfire_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod
6. i install superuser by clockworkmod recovery from link to zip in topic in number 4. "i follow... "
7. i started testing some costum rom's (cm7 etc...) kernels(jacob's)
8. i back to my stock rom using clockworkmod recovery >clean data/cashe/davalik > restore
Now i have copule questions:
Q-question
A- answer
Q1. i have this CWM Wildfire_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip CAN I HAVE SOME PROBLEMS NOW with my ORGINAL STOCK ROM BACKUP WHAT I MADE AND RESTORED OFFICIAL ROM AND FUTURE INSTALATIONS?
i read this: "-- Warning - Installing CWM 3.x will break the installation of Radio's and Sense based ROM's. Use CWM from within ROM Manager to rectify this. Or, reinstall v2.5.0.7 from the link given below. Also, Amon RA's Recovery is not officially supported. It's experimental."
Q2. What is the best CWM for the backup/restore OFICIAL FROYO 2.22.405.1 from HTC and for instaling costum roms/kernels?
A1/A2(3xeno):
Clockworkmod 3.x will not allow installation of Sense ROMs, but, restoring Nandroid Backups should not have any issues. Nandroid restore is different than installing a ROM.
NEW :
Q3. "Clockworkmod 3.x will not allow installation of Sense ROMs, but, restoring Nandroid Backups should not have any issues. Nandroid restore is different than installing a ROM." So i will have problems with roms like Wildpuzzle? any no SENSE roms will be ok?
A3. - Yes, you will have issues installing ROMs like WildPuzzle on Clockworkmod 3.x. I don't know about Froyo Non - Sense ROMs, but Gingerbread ROMs will definitely be ok.
Q4. What's now with this if i would like to install official clean RUU using the windows: HTC RUU WWE 2.22.405.1, it is oficial SENSE rom. It will be some problem becouse of CWM Wildfire_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod? or maybe CWM and everything else will be overwritten and wildfire will be like new from shop?
A4. - You are right. Clockworkmod will be overwritten with the official Recovery. So, Clockworkmod version does not make a difference when you install a RUU.
Q5. "Warning - Installing CWM 3.x will break the installation of Radio's..." after my 4 step : "4. I follow this instruc..." i break my radio in phone? When i can break the radio by CWM?
A5. - lol No. You misunderstood me. "Breaks the installation of radios" means that the Radio file needs Clockworkmod 2.x, and, cannot be installed on 3.x, Just like Sense ROMs. Your radio remains intact, no matter what Clockworkmod you are on.
Clockworkmod 3.x will not allow installation of Sense ROMs, but, restoring Nandroid Backups should not have any issues. Nandroid restore is different than installing a ROM.

Hello,
some question about the recovery (clockworkmod) and Stock HBoot.
At the moment my Desire works with 2.5.0.7 and yesterday i tried to update it to 3.0.0.5 after few problems it was working fine but after the new cwm i couldn't flash a new Radio Rom -> Back to 2.5.0.7
Today i have read some sites and will try it again with that steps
- install the RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed
- root with unrevoked again using Recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-bravo
- start phone in recovery and "update" to cwm 2.5.0.7
- flash the new radio 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
- restart
- restore insertcoin
So its that right?
If i "update" to 2.5.0.7 i get temporary the older cwm and after reboot the newest back?
Is that really temporary or is this permanent?
its an other way to do this?
The phone should be still S-ON
If you're S-ON, it means it shoud work as you have described it.
Why do you want to use the newest version of clockworkmod? Do you have any problems with 2.5.0.7?
Anyway, the steps are in the correct order.
Why?
Because in an other board the "pro's" says me that the 2.5.0.7 is a very old one that no more supported, with the old it can be comes to problems and at least "it gives newer ones"
The 2.5.0.7 works fine to me, only that i can't chosen more than 512MB sd-ext is an little "problem" but i can do this with gparted.
When it is not remommend to update i can let it too
Ok Thanks a lot

Now, it's easier to get S OFF..
with S OFF you can flash recovery that you want with fastboot..
simple and maybe faster than run RUU and use unrevoked againn...
S-Off i dont wont at the moment
that i can faster flash an recovery is not a reason for me.
Changing the recovery we do not needs so often
And when it comes an important update can i flash that whit the new om version
Also the reason from other board is "bull****"
they think "newer is always better"
EDIT:
So i have now the cwm-4.0.1.4-bravo with radio 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
And the next Probelem is coming to me
I will restore my OS backup (done with 2.5.0.7) but he frozed on Restoring sd-ext
What must i do to get the backup restored?
Edit:
False Positiv xD
It takes a bit longer as before now all is running good
