Hi guys,
I had this problem now a few times. Scrolling, Playback etc. gets very choppy until I reboot my phone. Am I the only one? Btw not been able to replicate until now.
Also happens to me on my LG Quantum.. Though I usually don't have to reboot, it typically stops after locking/unlocking the screen once or twice. This issue also occurred during the mango beta.. Unfortunately.
This is very well known, it happens occasionally when you plug your phone in to charge on your home network. It's been there since Nodo and probably before that too. (Gotta love Microsoft.)
It gets choppy because it is unsuccessfully trying to Wifi Sync with your PC. If you open Marketplace on your phone, you will see that it has the Zune dots pattern (the same as when you connect via USB) and there is a Cancel button at the bottom of the screen. Press it and no more choppiness.
(I get this a lot when I get into bed, plug the phone in and try to use it.)

Yep, this is exactly what causes it. I'm not even sure there is a way for Microsoft to avoid this.
There has to be more to it than that, because it happens on my phone when it is nowhere near an outlet, and I don't even have WiFi syncing set up (the PC where I run Zune is wired, not wireless). And I don't recall seeing the problem pre-Mango.
yep, happened once on my mozart when i was exiting an app. disappeared after a few seconds

Title says all. I was just chillin' listening to some music (Let's Get It to be exact) and when I pressed my power button to check and see how fast the WiFi reconnects, I swiped up and nothing happened. It was like that for about a minute or two, the volume rocker worked and I could hold down the camera button and go to the camera, but the touch screen just wouldn't work. I popped off the back and was about to remove the battery and thats when everything went back to normal...pretty odd...just a heads up.
Wifi now reconnects instantly. I am pleased
strange... not had any problems like this at all on mine yet...
Seems VERY responsive, been using it all lastnight over and over and this morning.
what phone you have? im using the mozart

Dammit, I thought I said what phone I was using...I'm on the HTC Arrive. It hasn't done it since I've posted..I highly doubt it'll happen all the time (probably won't ever happen again)..just wanted to mention it.
This happened to my arrive right as it was done updating on the screen that says the update is done...the close button wouldn't work, but I remember reading this thread so I waited it out and it started to work after like 2 min
I am having the exact problem on my HD7, only seems to occur if I am listening to music. The lock screen appears, but I cannot swipe.
Mine doesn't always come back and I have to remove the battery.
I have the same issue every once in a while. I'm not on Mango though, I'm running NoDo on a HTC Surround.
It's happened about 5 times in the last six months.
I've had the same issue since before NoDo. The quickest fix is to try turning the screen off and then on again, sometimes it takes a few attempts but it normally works.
haven't noticed on dvp or anything I wonder if its a htc thing...
I haven't noticed it, though I did get the red screen associated with changing the reg entries to get 32 bit color one.
Interesting side not, when I was updating to Mango, on one of the reboots I got the red screen and thought I was screwed, but the update process continued and on the next reboot it was normal again...

nope havnt come across this yet on my Samsung Focus. The only issue seems to be the increased boot up time(phone stays on d Samsung logo screenfor a long time) but I am quite sure its due to Samsungs crappy bootloader and besides I hardly have to reboot WP7 ever anyway
Hey, has anyone else noticed that weird icon where your signal and data icon should be?
Idk if its the new icon for no signal or what...but when I unlocked my phone, I saw an icon that looked like the copy and paste icon where my signal and data icon should be.
I must say I'm noticing this on third party apps a lot, I don't know whether it's because they are downloading data from the Internet or what but it's happening quite a bit at the moment. LG Optimus 7 btw.
So i recently got a free upgrade to a inc 2 by turning my og inc in under warranty for a blow speaker (for the third time) and i naturally rooted it and installed a nice miui rom. Now about a month later im out of town for work and the screen has died. The phone is still operational, but the screen is black.
I am wondering if this could possibly a firmware issue? i have tried pulling the battery and booting into recovery but the screen is 100% useless. the touchscreen still seems to work, i can unlock it and answer calls ect...
My hunch is that its a hardware problem, but i'd like to try and flash it back to stock if possible to eliminate the possibility of a rom issue.
Does anyone know a way to flash a rom onto it without the use of the screen?
Can i use the HTC sync tool to set it back to stock like i could with the OG incredible?
Any help is much appreciated, i'm pretty desperate here.
if it was me, I'd flash it back to stock using a ruu file, then do a warranty claim, cause then if it's a firmware/software issue the ruu will fix it. There's a thread somewhere around that has instructions to do that, give me a minute...

ok, so my new issue is that if i flash the ruu, and the screen still doesn't work, i'll be stuck at the setup wizard right? then i won't even be able to use google voice to make calls from my laptop. i guess ill have to wait till i get home, this would be so much easier if my pos nextel work phone had service out here in wyoming.
Yea, that's a tough one, I definitely wouldn't flash an RUU for the exact reason you bring up.
One option, although it isn't without it's own challenges, would be to try to install a VNC server on your phone, so you could then connect to and use it through a desktop computer. You could probably install it easy enough through the Android Market web site. Here's one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.onaips.vnc
If you download the Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html), connect your phone to your computer, open a command prompt and run ddms, it'll bring up the Dalvic Debug Monitor. Here, you can go to Device>Screen Capture and it'll bring up a window showing the screen of your phone. There's a refresh button which will refresh the screenshot. It'll be a little hit or miss, but you should be able to reference the screenshot to tap on your blank screen to open the VNC app, hit the start server button, and then see what IP/port it's listening on.
Once you get the VNC server running and connect, you should be able to use the phone fairly easily, although if the screen is dead even during boot (no initial boot screen, no display in h-boot) it would seem like a hardware problem and there's probably not much you can do about it.

Where is it indicating that it's the wrong device if you have no screen?

I ran into a similar problem with black screen over the weekend.
However my phone was not rooted.
This is how it happened.
I was using my phone then I saw the screen flicker once or twice, then it went black.
I pulled out the battery and powered up again.
The phone vibrated, and after a while the four bottom buttons light up.
The volume keys work and I could receive incoming calls, but the screen just stays black.
One thing to note is that my pocket was a little wet before I pulled out the phone to use.
Also that I did use my phone for a good 5-10 mins before it went black.
What I am trying to determine is if it is a software issue or hardware.
Are the bottom button lights separate from LCD screen, so that even if they light up it could still mean LCD is bad?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I'm about to throw this stupid thing against the wall. Since I bought this thing a couple months ago I've noticed that sometimes when I am watching youtube a box will pop up telling me that I've connected to T1 (the name of my wifi network). It seemed odd because I was already connected but whatever. Then lately I've been using the HBOgo app to watch shows, and at some point during every episode the app will freeze and I will have to back out and then resume the episode. I assumed it was the HBO app, but I've started to realize that it is the tablet itself freezing and disabling wifi. I realized this today when I was trying to download some files. Nothing too large, 60-100mb, but the downloads were always failing before they could complete so I would have to start over. I start to download a file, the download should only take a couple minutes at the most, but before it completes, somewhere between 30% to 95% downloaded, the whole tablet freezes up and becomes completely unresponsive. Then the wifi icon disappears from the top right, and the wifi button next to location, bluetooth, etc, goes from green to gray, then after a few seconds it goes back to green and a box pops up telling me that I am connected to my wifi network again. I start the download again and the exact same thing happens. I've also noticed that the tablet gets quite hot around the camera.
It does the same thing when connected to my TP Link Archer C7 (just using N, not AC) and a netgear router I had lying around. I doubt it's the network as the router has no way to forcibly disable wifi on my tablet. When I said that the wifi button goes from green to gray, it's as if I had tapped it to manually disable wifi, even though I did no such thing.
Also, it does seem like if I turn the screen off and let it sit for a while to cool down, it will work until it heats up again. Once it starts to feel hot though the wifi will start disabling itself and downloads start failing again.
I'm only about 10 feet away from the router with direct line of site.
So is it just overheating? Defective and time to send it in under warranty?
Everything is stock.

Hi,
So I had the razer phone for a week now and wondering if anyone has experienced or fixed two things:
1) Is quick charging always on?
I can't find any setting for it and I charge at night so I don't need quick charge unless it's an emergency.
2) When using headphones, Google music and YouTube will pause and start playing randomly. I would of thought maybe a unstable internet connection might be the case but even my downloaded music does it as well.
If anyone has solutions or can confirm they have the same issues, would be greatly appreciated.
I have had a similar issue as well. I use slingbox heavily, and when using my Verizon 4g sim for Data only, and Wi-Fi enabled I would see a random Grey (looks like a blank message prompt) blurp appear at the bottom, center of my screen. It would cause my Slingbox app to lose connection and close the video. Once i removed the Sim card from the phone, and use it in Wi-Fi only mode, I do not get the problem. I thought I would share my similar story.
Cheers.
Well, if anyone else is getting the random pausing and playing, I have narrowed down the issue to the USB audio dongle having some wiggle room when plugged in (IE standing or sitting still = no problems but if you're moving, you have a good chance of the dongle wiggling around and causing disconnects and reconnects which is why it pauses and plays).

No I am not. I did not have the phone connected to a charger when i encountered this problem. I came across it when i was doing battery test. I crank the brightness up, and stream my slingbox to see how long they can go. When my slingbox kept dropping connection, but not displaying a network error I started to take more notice of the issue. Once I was able to catch the problem in the act, I saw this random grey window appear at the bottom center of my screen. Slingbox drops the video, and goes back to the main login screen. The amount of time between disconnecting was also random. Sometimes it would disconnect almost right away, other times it would stay connected upto 15 minutes before dropping.
Once I remove the Sim and use Wi-Fi only, there is no issue.
Cheers.

I am in the same situation. With my CDMA/UMTS/LTE sim card I do get a data connection but I have frequent data drop offs. I'd see LTE, one minute then half signal with 3G then no signal at all. Even with cellular data off and only on wifi i would also experience drop offs of from the wifi also. It would even drop my magic jack calls only on home wifi as soon as the other person answered. Took the sim card out and I have no issues.
I think he was asking if you were trolling because we are off topic in that we do not have GSM carriers.

I've been having an issue since at least January. I was hoping either the Feb or March update would fix it, but it hasn't. My Pixel 2 XL has been acting strangely, but only when driving. When I drive, the device will either soft boot (states that PIN is required after restart, but opening terminal and checking uptime shows it hasn't physically booted) or soft lock (black screen that won't come on until hard booted). When it happens, my music will stop and my car's screen will go black. After a period of time, it'll ask me to reconnect the phone, either due to the device being encrypted until the PIN is entered after the soft boot or because it's simple no longer responding in the case of a soft lock. I've tried:
Removing the bluetooth connection for the car
Removing all known cars from Android Auto
Clearing cache
Uninstalling a few driving-specific apps
I was hoping maybe someone had an idea of anything to try besides a factory reset. I really hate reconfiguring my device from scratch (or even from TiBu backups).
I ended up trying multiple different kernels (Elixir and Evira) with the same results, so I broke down and did a factory reset. I reloaded apps and data from Titanium Backup. I'm no longer having the soft boot issue, but a different one instead. Now, randomly, my phone seems to disconnect from Bluetooth, audio it was playing plays through the phone speaker, and my car's display blanks out. I noticed my watch also shows that it has been disconnected from my phone. After a few moments, Android Auto returns to my car's display, but upon selecting anything (for instance, the music I had been listening to), it shows that the device is not compatible.
If I check the phone at this point, every app that had been running has been stopped. My notification bar is empty, and it usually has a few permanent notifications. The phone hasn't hard or soft booted, as it doesn't request the "PIN after restart". It just killed literally everything that was running. I have set both Android Auto and my music apps to not be battery optimized, as I assumed that might have been a problem, but with no better results. If I unplug and plug back in the USB cable, the phone operates normally. I haven't had any especially long trips to see if the issue occurs a second time. I'm lucky enough that my trips to work take 8-10 minutes.
Has anyone seen this or have any suggestions on things to try?
Well, your first post sounds a little similar to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/alert-using-adguard-private-dns-causes-t3896243 , Having tried dns.adguard.com private dns on my phone, that setting also survivied a factory reset. No idea about the second post. Shot in the dark.

It was similar, but I wasn't using Adguard. I had been using 1.1.1.1 for DNS, but when I stumbled on that post, I removed custom DNS settings without success. Thanks for the thought, though!
In all my years with Android, I haven't had such an infuriating issue. It's almost enough to make someone go to *gasp* iPhone! ... Not really.
For what it's worth, while you mention bluetooth audio and your watch disconnecting, of which I don't use either, I did have somewhat similar issues with Android Auto which it sounds like you also used as you mentioned plugging in. Sometimes AA was disconnecting, sometimes the phone not being recognised when plugged in. It's been a year so can't remember all the symptoms, but at the end of the day, it was the charging port that was malfunctioning, and which Google nicely replaced for me. This also caused adb and fastboot to be intermittent, and not see "devices" which also confirmed the charging/data port. Again, just another shot in the dark for you to consider.
Well, I went on vacation a few hundred miles away last week. On the way up, the phone freaked out repeatedly. I had my wife try to disable WiFi. Same issue. I had her try to disable Bluetooth. Same issue. Both disabled. Same issue. While at our resort, the phone freaked out a few times on the drive to breakfast (literally a 2 minute drive).
On the way back, I decided to disable Location services and revoke all Location permissions. I drove 50 miles with no problems. I had my wife enable Location and drove 30 miles. No problem. I had her tick on apps that I felt needed Location permission, one by one, every 10 miles. No problems at all. I ended up with all of the apps that I feel need Location turned on and haven't had a problem since. So something was choking on Location data, but unfortunately, I have no idea what app it was. I think it might have been Action Services, but I can't be sure. I'm just glad it's fixed, frankly.
I know this is an older post, but I wanted to get my "fix" posted, just in case someone else runs across a similar issue. At least they'd have something to try.
