[tutorial] auto wifi tether on/off when pluggin in/pulled out - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I've always wanted my phone to auto turn on wifi tether when I plug in for charging and disable wifi tethering when I pull it out of charging. I don't take credit for anything just writing a user-friendly guide.
download tasker from qr below
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",

}
How to set it so wifi tether turns on when usb plugged in
1. open tasker
2. click on green plus sign
3. type in 'usb in'
4. click on green check
5. click state
6. click power
7. click power
8 click ac
9. click green check
10. click new task
11. type in 'wifi on'
12. click blue plus sign
13. click net
14. click wifi tether
15. set on
16. click green check
17 click green check
How to set it so wifi tether turns off when usb plugged off
1. open tasker
2. click on green plus sign
3. type in usb out
4. click green check
5. click green plus sign
6. click state
7. click power
8. click power/ ac
9 click invert
10. click green check
11. click new task
12. type in 'wifi off'
13. click blue plus sign
14. click net
15. click wifi tether
16. set off
17. click green check
18 click green check
enjoy auto wifi tethering!
Edit: For some of you that want an option whether to turn on wifi tether when you plug in your phone just do this:
select orange lightning bolt at the bottom
click on wifi on
click on wifi tether
under label type "wifi tether on?"
click green check
click on screwdriver/wrench icon
click task type
click menu
click menu default item
click none
click green check
now every time you plug in your usb, it will pop up "wifi tether on?" if you click it, it will turn on wifi. If you don't click it, it'll go away in 30sec and screen will timeout.

Thank you

Hi there, I'm very very new to Tasker and I would like to request if possible that you update your instructional to the latest version of Tasker?
My current Tasker version is 4.1u3m and there are no longer any colored + signs. I'm also not able to follow the instructions by the number. This is most likely due to what's new in my version,
Thank you. I really find your instructional suited to what I need as I share my phone's connection here in my apartment.

Two Time Entries on Today Screen.

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this, forgive me if it isn't.
How do you hide the top time and date from my today screen? I would like HTC's clock to be the only one on the screen.

Dude seriously??
Start --> Settings --> Today --> Items (tab)
Untick "Date"
seeing as you had a nice screeny i thought i'd reply in a screenshot too because i'm in a screenshot kinda mood untick the highlighted box
but yet you worked out how to flash a rom and change the background of the today screen but you couldnt work out how to remove the date! lol
That doesnt remove the time. Un-checking the date removes the date
C'mon guys...you all are incorrect.
The way to do this is as follows (sorry I dont have time for screen shots)
1) Goto Settings>>Advanced Config
2) Select 'Appearance' tab
3) Select the appropriate drop down from 'Shoe on title bar' label. I selected 'battery'...
After a soft reset, you will get want you want...

whew, it was starting to feel like howardforums there with all the misinformation and bad advice.
Guys! Stop bickering!
To remove the time from the very top bar of the Today screen, lookin the WIKI for registry edits (here's the page):
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
and look for a section called "Show Time,Date, both or Battery on top bar at Today screen". This is the same edit that the Advanced Config mohitb272 mentioned, but this is the manual version if you haven't got theprogram installed.
To hide the date in the today plug-in (the one next to the clock under Start in your screenshot), follow GilesThaAlmighty's instructions earlier.
Sorted!

what rom are you using? I have AT&T but mine never says 3G AT&T. I have the 3G sim card. I am referring to the screenshot from the first post how it says 3G AT&T. Is it because you have the PDA plan or something. I have the Media Net unlimited plan whatever that is. It allows me to access the internet and stuff.

You need to have 3G coverage in your area to display 3G. Check at&t coverage map to see if you can get 3G coverage.

Pretty sure he's referring to the carrier name in HTC Home. Without the reg change it'll say UMTS AT&T.

Seriously? Maybe you shouldn't be messing with your phone if you don't understand how to perform simple searches when you hit an inevitable bump in the proverbial road. A search would have led to you finding the solution. Just go into Settings, then Connections, then USB to PC, then UNCHECK the "Advanced Network Functionality" box... reboot and try again.
active sync is not working after installing Kavana on my dash. I get a message the reads:
connection not valid:cannot connect to PC using connection "infared port'.
I tried reinstalling active sync on my computer, same result.

now now now, I used to work for geeksquad and I can understand his frustration, He doesn't know how to find these things out on his own.
As for the guy that needs help, ok I would suggest trying it on a different computer just in case. I may be a difference between vista and xp, all I am saying is that if you are going to be getting into these types of areas you are going to need to learn how to use google and read....alot......I mean alot.
My advice, retrace every step look at every angle you can think of with a clear mind, think simple. What also helps is to eliminate reasons why it would not work, do some deduction. Buddy it's time to think outside the box. Smoking a cigg can clear my head
P.S. I learned all I needed to know about computer in a week
1.) because I had just started taking adderall
2.) I bought a bunch of parts online because it was cheaper and I needed to know anything I could to help me put things together, mind you I never really understood exactly down to the silicone how everything worked, I just knew and understood it. just gotta get a feel for how works basically, remember it's all based off of some other idea. (like "windows mobile")

[Q] HELP! usb connection to pc with a black screened Epic

My wifes Epic's screen went black, so she bought a new EVO at Best Buy. Well she only saved her contacts in the phone and bestbuy says that they can't retreive them without the screen working. Can someone help me try to recover her contacts? Hopefully I can get access to them through a pc but when I plug it up, the pc sees a removable drive with no disk. Can anyone help me out with a solution? Thank You.
Should be able to adb pull the data off of the phone. Unsure of how to restore said data on a different phone though. Also if you wanted you could take the phone apart and see if the connectors are loose or disconnected.

Also, the contacts were not on the sd card.
Not synced to Google account either huh?

Yikes... that's gunna be hard. Although adb should still work just need USB debugging enabled which will be difficult without a screen.

I know! Seems like when I had my Samsung Moment, there was an app or something that let you see the phone screen on the PC.
Another question, when I plug the usb cable in does it ask me if I want to enable USB debugging? And can I answer the query with the keypad arrows and the enter key?

It doesn't... I thought there was an app to display the screen... that would be great
To enable USB debugging you go into applications at the bottom is development then at the top is USB debugging. Its a a check mark you tap.

If you know where the contacts app is, open it, then try to use these screenshots as a reference to save them to the sdcard
Hit Menu, and tap top right menu item(its level with the top of the camera button on the phone):

[ISSUE] Moto G7 Power - Display graphics error

Hi There,
I am new on the android scene and I have recently got my first Moto G7 Power and flashed Lineage OS onto it without GAPPS as I am not a fan of Google. Once the OS is installed on the device everything seems to work fine and I have had no issues with it. No today I didn't charge the device and the device died. When I power the device on everything is normal and then I lock the device display. When I go to check my next SMS message I find that the colours on the display are all messed up. It is kind of what I expect out of a computer when there is a graphics rendering error. I have some photos below;

I can get the display back to normal with a reboot of the device however after the first lock of the device the display does this again and I have not been able to get it back to normal
Any assistance is appreciated :fingers-crossed:

Thank you for your response.
I did follow all of the instructions in the documentation linked. I have not used the "Get Help" options as I didn't see those till today. I will also post this to these communities.
Additional information I attempted to take a screenshot of the issue though when the screenshot is sent to my computer the issue is not shown in the image.

I've been experimenting with the issue, and it possibly might be a conflict with the screen saver and the main display, as I think when the screen saver kicks in, it adjusts/shuts off the colors to the monochrome of sorts we see when it "bugs out". I tried shutting of the screen saver (Go to the options"Display-Advanced-Screen saver-When to start" and click "Never."), and it seems to be good for the moment. Not sure if this will hold as a temporary solution, as I have only been testing for a few minutes putting the phone to sleep and waking it several times, but I might be on to something...

This problem is happening with me too, it is when I plug the usb cable and block the phone, when it wake up the display are messed. Reset is normal again. Tried to turn off screen saver but it didnt help.
I'm experiencing this problem with other situations too. After more tests I saw in another site this workaround: Change your color profile [Display] -> [Advanced] -> [Colours] from 'Natural' to 'Saturated' and back. Colors will return to normal. (https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/2832)
After doing that and what PhoneThe4th said I am not experiencing the problem.
Sorry, I didnt know how to delete this message and use only my upper message.
Sorry, but the above answer is only a temp fix.
Try this:
System - Buttons
( long-press all buttons, to see menu)
Back long press action-Kill foreground app
Home long press action-Kill foreground app
Recent long press action-Kill foreground app.
I did this yesterday (1/10/2022) .
Still working.

Question How can I (en-/dis-)able the lockscreen via Automate/Tasker/etc?

The usual things (integrated solutions or the many ideas I found online) do not work. I don't want to permanently disable it but I am absolutely annoyed to constantly have to unlock it while i'm just at home.
I want Automate to have it off while home and on while outside. Such a simple task and yet so complicated :-(
(Smart-Lock doesn't work at all for me. Never had on any phone.)
Maybe someone has found a solution?
Set lock_screen_lock_after_timeout to any longer value. I have created a task that runs after every boot which sets this value. You phone will never be locked. Make sure you uncheck Settings -> Security -> Screen lock -> Power button instantly lock.

I just tried this and it didn't work for me either. But I have been using my solution for couple of years and it always works fine for me.
This is basically the one I use. Keeps your phone unlocked when connected to your WiFi at home and enables lockscreen when disconnected from your home Wifi when away from home.

Ah thank you, another option that will work. Thanks for sharing!
If you don't want to go down the tasker route,
Macrodroid with _Screen unlock at Home does the job.
Just change the SSID in the template. (Parts 1 and 2 needed)
What about on first boot? Don't you need to enter a password then? I want to bypass the password always, even after a reboot. Is there no way to have Tasker auto-login when the lock-screen is shown?
NOTE: I do have lockscreen set to Swipe, but that causes multiple issues which is what I am trying to fix... 1) No VPN without a lock, 2) No GPay without a lock, 3) Can't view Chrome saved passwords without creating a lock. Therefore disabling the lock at home is not a solution for me. I want it always disabled (swipe to unlock), but I want 1, 2, & 3 to work anyway.
PS: Here is how to do the timeout thing without Tasker... I will try that out for now, as it should solve everything except reboot (maybe I can live with that).
Code:
adb shell settings put secure lock_after_timeout_rollback 86400000
adb shell settings put secure lock_screen_lock_after_timeout 86400000
86400000 = 24 hours in miliseconds. You can change to a number that you find suitable.
This secure settings will survive after reboot so you only need to do once.
