Droid Incredible OTA Gingerbread ? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically I have been trying to figure out why it won't show up in the system updates.
Specifications:
Android Version:
2.2
Baseband Version:
2.15.00.07.28
Kernal Version
2.6.32.17-g9a2fc16 [email protected] #1
Build Number:
3.26.605.1 CL264707 release keys
Software Number:
3.26.605.1
Phone has been rooted with unrevoked. I don't care if I get to keep it rooted, I just want to get gingerbread on this, I feel the need.
Thanks

Just flash an already rooted gingerbread rom like jermaines stock + rom. The official ota has been halted due to issues, but the custom roms made from it were fixed by the devs.

Can you supply a link, I hate to be noobish, I kinda don't like messing with roms anymore.
I just want a sure way its going to install without problems. Haha I already lost a G1 and a MT3G

The first boot of a new rom install will always take longet than a normal boot, or any time you wipe dalvik-cache and the cache partition.

Rooted plus latest OTA (ROM?)

I am rooted with software 3.29.651.5 (stock ROM, removed bloatware) and I want to get the latest OTA update while keeping my root.
I assume this is only possible with a ROM flash. Does anyone have a recommended ROM that is stock with root? I do not have ap2sd partition, all I did was unrEVOked and no OTA updates since 3.29.651.5.
I'd like to keep the stock ROM if possible. I have clockwork 3.0.0.5 installed and I just did a Nandroid backup.
There are rooted stock roms in the dev section
We're comin from a pure power source.

dont really have to re-root just find a rom you like, wipe everything(data,dalvik,cache)2x min and install the new rom from recovery. bunch of good, stable roms in the dev section to choose from.
sweet!...do I download rommanager in order to update to the latest recovery or do I have the latest?
Just making sure so I don't screw anything up. once I flash another rom I will make a backup of it.
also I heard you can't root the latest sprint 2.3 update, anywhere that I can find sprints 2.2 RUU incase anything happens?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379
download 4.24.651.1 Odexed,
copy the entire zip file to your root directory on the SD card.
two ways of doing this. you can attempt start the flash through clockworkmod, which is what I did. It should work just fine.
second method is
Install RA Recovery v2.3 through Rom Manager
reboot the phone and hold the I think the down button on bootup. then
everything else should be clear. install the zip and clear the catch. Let phone reboot FULLY DO NOT PULL BATTERY OR ANYTHING.
LET US KNOW. HOWEVER, anyone else have anything to add to my instructions?
oh forgot... make sure you do a full backup using RA recovery... and use the "Wimax RSA Key Checker" by joeykrim BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!
I'll do stock for now, thanks !
found a a deck rom, it worked great on my hero so I'm going to give it a shot on the evo.
just flashed ginger deck, working fine will install rom manager later to update Recovery image. The last thing I'm looking for, is the sprint 2.2 RUU inscase I need to unroot.

Looks like your are on a stock rom, an outdated one to be exact. If you were running a custom rom, it would say it there, like "cyanogenmod".

No difference. Unrevoked was a method used to root Froyo roms, while Revolutionary is the only method that will root newer gingerbread builds.

it says supersonic also ? i just want to update the gingerbread update that keeps popping up and i think if i rooted it myself i would understand it better
and what are these kernels?
and what are the benefits of using diff roms?
EVO is just the marketing name for the phone. It's actually and HTC Supersonic, which is why you see supersonic in phone information.
Different kernels are designed for different roms. There are AOSP kernels for ASOP roms and sense kernels for sense roms. Any ROM you flash will already have the correct kernel built in.
You can browse the dev forums here to find what roms work best for you. Many roms provide the same functionality, but some roms boast extra settings or features that you won't find in other roms.
You really just need to read through these XDA forums and discover what's going to be the best option for you. We can't tell you what roms you will like. However, I do suggest looking at CM7.1 and deck's 1.3 AOSP roms. Both work well and have lots of dev support.
There is no reason to re-root. Just download a few ROMs that look interesting. I am not going to waste time explaining how to flash Roms since there is plenty of info on how to....on here already
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Root is Root, only differences are how you go about getting to Root.
There are a number of different Roms available. Each is slightly different. Which one you would ultimately settle on depends on your tastes and needs.
Simply stated the rom is like the image, or body of the vehicle/phone.
the kernel is more the motor. The trick is to find a combination that suits your needs and likings.
And i have learned to stick with one I like and let the dev upgrade it.

[Q] About updating and rooting

I am new to the anrdoid scene(One X is my first Android after years of BB and iOS devices) and have a few questions. My One X is currently on OTA 1.28.720.10 I see that most of the roms are 1.29.401.11 based. Will i need to update to those versions before rooting and flashing those ROMs. I would've updatedto 1.29.401.11 if i could but when I checked for new updates on the phone I was told that no new updates were available(i am guessing this has something to do with my region, which is india)
complete noob here, i wanted to not be such a Pain in the A** but i searched the forum to no avail....

no you do not need to update to latest firmware for you to be able to flash the latest custom roms. just backup your current rom and flash the one that you like and that is it follow the guide on how to install the rom which should be on the OP of the rom of your choice and your good to go

Thats is what i thought, but i was reading through a couple of threads over in the HOX android dev section and ran into this post by JDR0ID(whose Exodized rom I plan to flash) -
Ok, i think i know why i have so much battery drain lol!!! im 1.26 firmware (0.43 HBOOT) on a 1.29 rom lol!?!?! I have never updated firmware and ive just noticed.!!!! im going to have to revert to stock to update right?

They then proceed to talk about HBOOT version, and i have no idea what that is. So does that mean that if I dont update to 1.29 based rom I will not get the latest HBOOT version and I will have issues with his rom?

right say you are on 1.28 firmware and you want to flash 1.29 custom rom you will not be fully updated. you can do that by RUU or wait for an OTA update from your carrier. i was on 1.28 firmware but still flashed the latest custom roms. why you ask. cause i just love the roms..you do not get fully updated due to the s-off issues but i never had issues so i do not see why you should either
all honesty i do not see any difference having an old HBOOT or an old one. what i know is that when changing roms you do get the latest radio. if you go into settings and about phone and check baseband version you will see you will be on the latest one.. that is the most important bit for me. hope that clears things up
EDIT: what i normally do is this. before i flashed a custom rom i backed up my stock rom. then whenever there was an update i just restored my backup rom and installed the OTA. once i done that and was updated i flashed the custom rom again ..and that is it..i had the latest hboot and all was rosy. you can flash an RUU but i never tried that so i can not help on that..but there are a few threads in the development section were you can read about

Please help!!! Rom install

ok, first off i bought a at&t galaxy s3 sgh-i747. i have it factory unlocked to work with my carrier. here is the build info
model: samsung-sgh-i747
android version: 4.04
baseband version: i747uclg1
kernel: 3.08-599060-user
build number: imm76d.i747ucalg1
i rooted it on my own (first timer) with clockwork recovery, i have superuser. i also have some other recommended rooted apps, rom manager, titanium backup, busy box, metmorph. all these i am in the early stages of even understanding them.
so i went through at first and like ics. i just wanted it a little faster, i wanted to overclock it, got what i thought i needed, flashed the kernel i believe with odin, and was stuck at the samsung logo, it would show for a min and go away, then nothing, so luckily i found the stock kernal, flashed it back to stock. everything is cherrry. so today, i was looking into custom roms, found a couple. followed all instructions, flashed with clockwork recovery, while loading, it aborted and gave me a status 7 error. i restored my phone with recovery back to normal. tried with another rom with clockwork, same error. it aborts.
honestly what do i need to do to 1. install a kernel 2. safley install a stable rom (maybe just jelly bean) 3. be happy.

I recommend you look around the forums (searching thoroughly or threads with stickies) as there are already quite a few threads with reliable information about properly flashing Kernels and ROMs.
I CAN however tell you that to install a Kernel you usually need to make sure it's compatible with whichever ROM you installed, for example there is the KT747 with one version for Stock Based ROMs and another for AOSP roms etc.
Most Jelly Bean ROMs are still buggy but plenty are stable enough to use as daily driver, I personally recommend CyanogenMod 10 or AOKP (AOSP based ROMs). For Stock based ROMs in Jelly Bean I recommend Black Jelly, and Drew Garen Sprint ports. As for the Error you're getting when flashing, make sure you have the latest version of ClockWorkMod Recovery or at least one of the latest ones, as most of the newer ROMs require them. (I have version 6.0.1.2)
Here are some links to the above mentioned ROMs,
CyanogenMod 10 (Jelly Bean): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778270
AOKP (Jelly Bean): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949025

Drew Garens ROM (Jelly Bean Based on Stock): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300
The popular KT747 Kernel (With Overclock and Undervolting support): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Be sure to download the right one that corresponds to your ROM type though.
I hope this helps.

Another ROM Stock Based ICS I forgot to mention is KyanROM. That was the first one I flashed on my GS3 and I immediately loved it. It has been thus far the most stable and nice looking ICS room I have used. Perhaps you can give it a try! I believe its on the Android Development (Not to be confused with ORIGINAL Android Development) section of this phones forum.

Ok..thanks for the pic. How the hell you were able to run international rom ...crazy. Anywho, you said you tried restore your "stock" backup you made. At least you made one! Good job on that, but now you're getting a MD5 error? That happened to me to a while back. After searching, I came across this thread. I did the suggested code and my backup was fixed. That may be something to look into. You will need to use terminal emulator to do this. (it's free in the market)

If you don't feel comfortable doing that...then download the stock rom from here..it WILL take a while to download..be patient. Once downloaded flash it using ODIN...

Error 7 means you're trying to flash leaked JB version on top of a ROOTED device. The leaked version ONLY works on NON-ROOTED LH1 version.
If you want to try JB, I will recommend trying (CM10 M2 build). Once you're comfortable, then update to the nightly build then.
CM10 thread is here

[Q] New to Samsung Procedures Help - How to Perform Updates - MA7

Holy Crap I''m confused!! (only had my Note 2 for a few days; coming from many years with HTC)
I currently have this ANNOYING System update pop-up that won't go away. I am assuming it's this MA7 update? Which I'm also assuming it's a Radio update? Can someone please confirm this?
I am currently rooted with the stock Rom (Android 4.1.1)
I used Galaxy_Note2_Toolkit_v3.0.0 to achieve this.
I have TWRP as my recovery and I have Baseband version: L900VPALJC
1) Is this annoying pop-up that I am getting MA7?
2) What exactly is this MA7 update?
3) What will happen if I proceed to install this update from the pop-up window? Will it fail, lose my root or brick phone?
3) Is it true you cannot flash OTA updates unless I have stock recovery and unrooted? If so, why is that? That means that I have to go thru the whole rooting method every time there is an update?
I'd like to continue using stock ROM or Touchwiz and not any of the AOSP ROMS. 1st I need to know all the ins/out of the stock ROM so that I can compare what I'll be missing if I chose to use AOSP. (like a bunch of S-Pen features... that's all I know as of now)
Any help with these questions will be extremely appreciated. Or if you can point me to where I can catch up with all these terminologies and procedures? I've only had experience with the HTC Evo line (all of them) and things are done waaaay different. This having to go back to stock, back and forth is all new to me. On HTC, once you were nand unlocked, S-OFF and rooted... that's all she wrote. You didn't have to do it over & over. That's where I'm confused.
I am planning on a solution for me that might work for you.
Grabbed this sweet looking Rom, and giving it a flash pretty soon.

I think that would solve your pop up issue while staying with TW.
Evo's sure were streamlined with my understanding, the whole modem thing still throws me off.
You can only receive OTA updates if you have the stock recovery. It's no big deal - updates are always posted here for download and flashing, or you can always flash the LJC Factory Restore zip and get the OTA if it means a lot to you. This is no different than HTC (which has a ****ty bootloader to begin with). Don't panic because a few proprietary conventions differ between the brands; it's all still Android.

So I can simply download the update from xda and flash it via recovery and that's it? I dont have to unroot put back to stock?

You got it. Just download the modem and kernel from rwilco12's repository and flash them in recovery. You'll upgrade your device to the latest baseband (MA7) and stock kernel. Personally, I recommend Perseus over the stock kernel, but that's me. Your ROM stays in tact.

I just came from rwilco's thread and he clearly wrote in red, bold letters:
To flash this your phone must be on 100% stock LJC and unrooted. It can only be flashed through Stock Recovery.

Download the all-in-one firmware from here:

Even tho it says LJC to MA7, you do not need to be on LJC to flash it. I it works fine and will upgrade your modem, nvram, and other firmware pieces.
