dont really have to re-root just find a rom you like, wipe everything(data,dalvik,cache)2x min and install the new rom from recovery. bunch of good, stable roms in the dev section to choose from.

sweet!...do I download rommanager in order to update to the latest recovery or do I have the latest?
Just making sure so I don't screw anything up. once I flash another rom I will make a backup of it.
also I heard you can't root the latest sprint 2.3 update, anywhere that I can find sprints 2.2 RUU incase anything happens?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379
download 4.24.651.1 Odexed,
copy the entire zip file to your root directory on the SD card.
two ways of doing this. you can attempt start the flash through clockworkmod, which is what I did. It should work just fine.
second method is
Install RA Recovery v2.3 through Rom Manager
reboot the phone and hold the I think the down button on bootup. then
everything else should be clear. install the zip and clear the catch. Let phone reboot FULLY DO NOT PULL BATTERY OR ANYTHING.
LET US KNOW. HOWEVER, anyone else have anything to add to my instructions?
oh forgot... make sure you do a full backup using RA recovery... and use the "Wimax RSA Key Checker" by joeykrim BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!

I'll do stock for now, thanks !
found a a deck rom, it worked great on my hero so I'm going to give it a shot on the evo.

just flashed ginger deck, working fine will install rom manager later to update Recovery image. The last thing I'm looking for, is the sprint 2.2 RUU inscase I need to unroot.

No difference. Unrevoked was a method used to root Froyo roms, while Revolutionary is the only method that will root newer gingerbread builds.

and what are these kernels?
and what are the benefits of using diff roms?

EVO is just the marketing name for the phone. It's actually and HTC Supersonic, which is why you see supersonic in phone information.
Different kernels are designed for different roms. There are AOSP kernels for ASOP roms and sense kernels for sense roms. Any ROM you flash will already have the correct kernel built in.
You can browse the dev forums here to find what roms work best for you. Many roms provide the same functionality, but some roms boast extra settings or features that you won't find in other roms.
You really just need to read through these XDA forums and discover what's going to be the best option for you. We can't tell you what roms you will like. However, I do suggest looking at CM7.1 and deck's 1.3 AOSP roms. Both work well and have lots of dev support.

There is no reason to re-root. Just download a few ROMs that look interesting. I am not going to waste time explaining how to flash Roms since there is plenty of info on how to....on here already
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium

Root is Root, only differences are how you go about getting to Root.
There are a number of different Roms available. Each is slightly different. Which one you would ultimately settle on depends on your tastes and needs.
Simply stated the rom is like the image, or body of the vehicle/phone.
the kernel is more the motor. The trick is to find a combination that suits your needs and likings.

And i have learned to stick with one I like and let the dev upgrade it.

Revert back to 1.47.651.1 from 3.26.651.1

I (prematurely) update to the leaked version of the Android 2.2 release. I would like to revert back to 1.47.651.1 so I can install Cyanogen 6 Mod. I am fairly new to working with Android ROMs, but I have tried several things.
1.32.651.1 and .6 RUU's do not work. I get "ERROR [140]: Bootloader Version Error".
1.47.651.1's RUU, refuses to see the phone getting "ERROR [171]: USB Connection Error".
I tried multiple "update.zip" files to no avail. I constantly get "signature verification failed" when I try and revert back to these files (renamed as update.zip):
Supersonic_1.32.651.6_rooted.zip
Supersonic_1.32.651.1_rooted.zip
Evo-Froyo-2.2-Rooted-Stock-Odexed-netarchy-signed.zip
I've also tried PC36IMG.zip and receive a "Main Version Older. Update Failed" error.
Is there any way to revert back to 1.47/1.32.xx or am I stuck on this half-baked version of Android?
quite sure there is no root method for the ota update at the moment.
should have read the post saying to wait for root.
last but not least WRONG SECTION POST THIS IN Q AND A
ROFL 100th one today prob
This belongs in Q&A but...
Did you use the rooted or unrooted OTA update?
If you flashed the rooted version you're screwed until someone roots it.
If you flashed the unrooted version, just reboot into recovery and restore the nandroid I'm certain you made before flashing an updated ROM.
Here's another thread about this problem (also in Development)
Once on 2.2, no root...
If you flashed a rooted version of the latest leak I don't think you should have any problems...
I has Fresh 3.0b2 on my phone (based off of newest OTA, but rooted of course) and I just re-flashed the latest CM6 nightly

Just a heads up, for the sake of confusion. I think you got the rooted and unrooted mixed up....
If you flashed the rooted version, you should be able to restore. If you flashed the UNrooted version, you have to wait for a Root method to be found.
Why flash why are you not doing a nandroid when you flash bell cw ask u and then it restores it just the way it was u know like using ghost on a pc

except that nandroid or not, you flash the UNROOTED OTA you are screwed for now. your nandroid will be there, but it won't be doing much for you if we can't root the new OTA.
Sorry about the wrong section; I was reading under development and I didn't think to switch.
Now just out of plain curiosity, how come the stock RUU will not work? I understand it is a different bootloader version, but doesn't it just install over it?

It doesnt work because HTC is not ****ing retarded. If they allowed it to work, what would be the point of them fixing the exploits that allow root?
The last two OTAs have come with bootloaders that have a concept of a minimum version requirement. It's a method to avoid downgrading. Despite the old OTA being "stock" or "official" or whatever you want to call it, it's a lower version than the minimum your current bootloader requires, meaning it would be a downgrade.
Sorry man, you're gonna have to sit tight while some nice dev bails you out.
Thanks for explaining. I don't mind waiting, I under stood the risks. Only thing is that I didn't quite understand how this part of it worked. Thanks for the explanation.

I'd like to know that as well.
Permission denied when running flash_image through adb.
Does not seem to work on 2.2 FroYo OTA
So if you flashed a rooted rom you can just revert with a NAND backup. Are there any other ways to revert back to a previous version?
Also lets say you go from the currently 2.2 roms back to 1.47, can you then turn around and revert to stock?

If you are rooted, you can do whatever. You can find a zip file of the original rom and just flash it from recovery. I'm not sure if it is possible to downgrade your radios when (I've never tried), but it probably is.

[Q] not getting any OTA updates

Hey, I am currently using an Evo i got from a friend who got his at Google IO. My problem is that I am currently still on build 1.32.651.1 but when I try to check for OTA updates in the settings, it says my phone is up-to-date. Is there a way for me to force update? Or can I get the update roms somewhere? I found the 1.47 update rom but it updates from 1.32.651.6 which doesnt help me.
Thanks.

the 1.47 rom can be installed over any rom version as it will overwrite any past files so you can safely update from 1.32.651.1 with no problem
XmentalX: I tried flashing that rom on but it said that it failed to verify whole-file signature. I am guessing it is because the 1.47 rom I found was for upgrading from 1.32.651.6 build while I had the earlier 1.32.651.1 build.

Ok, thanks. I will try that then.
I think your confused. To my knowledge you cannot flash drive roms/updates manually without having root, via Clock work Mod (Nandroid). I tried updating via .zips from SD before rooting and installing clockwork mod and I was getting the same error. Why don't you want to root anyway? If you try to update using the OTA, you can't do froyo until the 3rd, if their even still releasing it. IF you don't want to root, your looking on the wrong web site. GO try HTC's site or Sprint. They can help you out since your still STOCK unrooted.

on the older roms you can flash via hboot by putting the PC36IMG.zip on the root of the sd card and pressing vol down + power
they patched that on 1.47 but you can still downgrade and do it no problem.

I am not opposed to root but I have not seen anything that I really wanted that required root. Also, you are right, perhaps asking HTC/sprint directly first would be helpful.
so, after a quick email with HTC, it seems that they do not officially support dev devices and thus no OTA updates. Thanks for your help.

[Q] Question regarding Sprint Update & Root????

So thanks to this great website I rooted my phone having the Sprint update. Being patient has paid off. However I have a question regarding the Sprint Update and flashing a Rom.
I flashed the Sprint RUU to my phone and have the new update. However I want to keep the new update. I really like CM7 which is what I've been using. My question is when I flash the CM7 (7.0.3 I believe) does that take away or down grade my update from sprint???
The reason Im asking is because my software is different. Since I cant update the PRL through CM7 I have to flash to a sense ROM then flash back to CM7.
Is there a way I can update CM7 but still keep the software flashed by the Sprint update????
My wife has an Evo 4G so I've compared the software from her phone to my phone.
Also her PRI Version is updated to, and my phone still shows 1.90_003.. I believe I can search her for the PRI update and flash..
So I hope my question makes sense. If someone would let me know your experience with CM7 and the update from Sprint. .I just feel like i'm downgrading for some reason unless there's a newer update from CM7 but I havent seen it yet..
If there is an update from CM7 if you could provide a link.. I've checked the website and nothing has been updated yet.
What do you mean by software? If you mean the apps, then no. Any 'htc'/sense app won't work on CM7. Though if you mean like the PRL, PRI, or Radio, you can. Just update the prl and pri in a sense rom, flash back to CM7, then flash the radio seperately in recovery; unless i misunderstand you.
so updating, then going back to preferred rom will keep my update the same right?

Ruu's aren't the only way to get radio updates. Calkulin has a thread with the radios. You can just stay on cm7 and flash the radio update zip; no need to go back to sense
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
If i'm not mistaken, Sprint's updates are sometimes a combo of radios and/or a rom. So by flashing CM7, you need to hunt down the latest radio (i highly recommend the wakelock fix) to flash on TOP of CM7. That's the best way to explain it. Cause when you flash another rom, it's gonna come preloaded with whatever the dev decided to use.
Ok. I am not flashing cm7 I just moved from that to bliss but I am getting a sms error that just happens when it wants to and it says error class 34 cause 2. Wondering if I need to update radios like u are saying. Never happened with any other Rom
EDIT
error: cause code 34 error class 2

What I';m asking is how can I update my PRI.. Not PRL
And from the post above that makes sense.. The PRL and PRI will update based on what the dev decided..
Im trying to update my PRI and have been searching everywhere and cant get a straight answer.
I went back to a sense ROM even flashed the RUU from sprint to try to get it to update.. The software version is right and everything else EXCEPT the PRI
I've tried flashing in recovery... Nothing..
I was up last night till 4am trying to follow all steps to update my PRI but it doesnt seem to work.. Maybe I need to unroot??????
I rooted using the revolution method.. everything was fine.. But now that ONE update is bugging me..
Has anyone been successful in updating???
If so can you explain exactly what you did...
Thanks

What message do you get when you try to update the PRI (are you sure you don't mean the PRL)?
Is it possible that your PRI/PRL is already up to date and that is why it won't update?
Go to the link in my post before and it has a combo of all of the latest radio updates. Flash that over cm7 and you should be golden

correct. all you can do is flash the zips in recovery OR flash the p36img for the gps/wimax fix in the bootloader. Either or. And yes, there is no way to verify in an AOSP rom, because you can't update your prl or profile in an AOSP rom to begin with.

Just flash an already rooted gingerbread rom like jermaines stock + rom. The official ota has been halted due to issues, but the custom roms made from it were fixed by the devs.
Can you supply a link, I hate to be noobish, I kinda don't like messing with roms anymore.

[Q] Upgrading to 2.3.3 from 2.2 rooted?

I am using 2.2 and kernal version 2.6.32.17, build number 3.70, this phone is already rooted, but never had any ROMs installed.. how can I upgrade to 2.3.3 and then root that? I assume ill have to back up everything to my pc from my sd card? I hope someone can steer me the right way, and its not as complicated..
If you are rooted, choose a rom that you want that has 2.3.3 there are plenty out there, even the sprint lovers rom or even synergy if you want the new sense 3.0 features.
Download which you want put the zip on the root of your sd card.
Find caulkins wipe zip, which is in one of his threads, put that on the root of your sd card as well.
Load up recovery(can be done by vol down+power when powered off)
Make a nandroid backup.
Flash caulkins wipe zip.
Flash the rom you want.
Reboot.
When i tried to flash the caulkins wipe zip I got this error:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgradeing to the clockworkMod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update- binary) to create working update zip package.
It rebooted. So then i wet in ROM Manager and tried to install the synergy room and i got an installation aborted error and my evo restarted and the stock rom came up as if brand new, all contacts/apps gone. Luckily i made a backup and was able to restore.. what could the problem be?

Op I think you should run decks aosp rom. The problem you are having with the amend script is because you're running clockwork mod recovery. Now you have 2 options. If you decide to go with the rom I would recommend, you should go in the link below and follow all of the instructions.
If you wanna flash what you were trying to flash before, go to the link below and somewhere in the first post you will find a link to amon ra recovery. Flash that recovery and then you can follow the instructions you were trying before

That may not be a 3.0 version, some roms were sense 2.1 build with 3.0 features, like lock screen, ect.
Ah gotcha, no complaints, still nice compared to the 2.2 stock that shipped out with Sprint..

There are full 3.5 roms in the dev section, if you still wanted one.
