Try rebooting. If that doesn't work, try cleaning the sd card contacts with a rubber eraser

Thanks for responding. I will try the rubber eraser. I tried to reboot but to no avail.

You may want to take your SD card out and put it in your computer. transfer all data to a safe place then put your SD back in the phone and format it. You can then put your data back on the card and should be good to go unless the card itself is borked which does happen occasionally. Happened to me and I lost a years worth of pictures and other data.

Its just doesn't make sense to me. I tried the eraser thing and that didnt work. I can download from the market with no problem. I dont have any problems accessing my files on my SD Card either. Its just only when I go to download a zip file from one of those file sharing sites it gives me the memory card does not exist.

Actually your better formatting it on the computer too. The phone doesn't always do the best job.

I was really trying to avoid reformatting. I wonder how that happened.

It only takes an hour and you'll enjoy the difference. I do it every few months. As long as you back up right before.

1. Turn phone off and remove card
2. Put card in adapter and then in computer
3. Make a folder in desktop named sdsave
4. Right click sd card and copy
5. Paste into new folder
6. Right click sd card and choose to format. Make sure it's set to fat32
7. Format
8. Go into sdsave and highlight all folders and items and copy them back to card

[Q] Every so often most of my images disappear from my sd card. Why?

It's sickening because I have a lot of wallpapers and icons..I copy it all to my laptop occasionally but not everyday because it takes quite awhile. Does this happen to anyone else? Anyone know why? I'm very careful about unmounting the card.
Yes, its happened to me to. And I have only been using rooted stock Roms. My only suggestion is to install an app like lookout. It automtically backups up my pics daily and also gives u the option to push them back to the phone or download them to your pc. (it does some other cool stuff too).

Recovery from Format?

Well, I pulled a boneheaded stunt. I accidentally formatted my internal storage instead of the SD card in my phone.... SIGH.... The bad part is, I had a couple of pics I hadn't moved up to the cloud yet, and they're irreplaceable. (One was of my wife and her 4 cousins after her grandfather's funeral) I'm hoping someone has an idea... I've tried Recuva and Pro Discover Basic to try to recover, with no luck.
Any other ideas?
None that I know of, sorry bud. You should start backing up you're pics and important files. I hope someone else can find something but from what I know people have never been able to recover after a format

Yes, I usually do. Thanks for the sage advice. I never would have thought to back up important files and pics.

Look at the get more storage from drop box thread and u can have it upload photos automatically so you never loose them. I have 7 GB on there now

Try unformat software using your PC. You must stop using your phone immediately though. As when you use the phone new stuffs are being written on the internal card and less chance of you recovering old data from it.
I've had some success with Recuva before.

Extracting data & pictures

I have a partially destroyed sgs2 epic 4g touch that I need to retrieve data, pics and whatever else I can get off of the internal sd card. I can't turn it on to get the internal sd card to connect to the computer. Can someone help me with this if it's possible?
Thanks,

How broken is it? Is the battery charged for certain? Any possibility just the display is broken? If you could boot one more time and you had debugging enabled you could pull the sdcard folder with adb or droid explorer. If you had clockwork recovery installed you could possibly navigate the menus by count and mount the SD Card to USB. Have you tried getting into download mode or recovery and checked if it gets recognized by your PC?
If no, your next step would be to buy another identical phone and try swapping parts to fix yours or move the board to the new phone or something.
I'm sure there's other ways too, just depends on how much time and money the data's worth.
There is a way to do this through ADB but I don't remember how. Sorry. If I can find out ill post it or hopefully someone else will know.

[Q] how do you find/fix corrupt media files

I've been having the media server battery drain problem and a lot of people are saying it's because of a corrupted media file. So how exactly do I find out if I have any? Some are saying to reformat the sd card. But if I'm transferring my files to my comp and then reformatting the card that is not going to fix any files right? So how can I find out which ones are bad?
Easiest way to do it is load them up onto a computer and if they display a thumbnail and play/view without issues then they are fine.

At that rate I'd rather just delete all my music since it's all on google music and I'm usually on wifi anyway. That's 20 gigs out of like 24 used on my SD card so... that would probably be the easiest route.

Hardware or software issue? Problem with phone reading sd card

I've been on the cm 10.1 rc2 since it was released without issue.
I'm constantly listening to music stored on my sd so I know this problem is short lived.
Last night my phone would start skipping every couple of songs and eventually it would stop reading the sdcard. A restart would fix this for about 5 minutes. All of today up until about 20 minutes ago my phone would constantly say "preparing sd" or "sd card removed unexpectedly"
I tried removing and reinserting the sd card multiple times and same issue. My sd card became inaccessible on my phone. I tried accessing it via twrp and it worked sort of. It was EXTREMELY laggy trying to navigate through sd card contents.
I thought my sd card was gone so I put it in my evolte and the phone read it no problem and played my music no problem. I put it back in my s3 and it still wouldn't do anything. Now it seems to have fixed itself but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again soon

It sounds like the SD Card is on it's way out. But you might be able to salvage it. I use SD Formatter. It works wonders. I would back up everything. Then format the SD Card.

Thanks, I'll try formatting it. The odd thing is my s3 stopped reading the sd card completely but I popped it into my evolte and its reading it just fine.

Just an update. Haven't had a chance to format the card but my evo lte has had no trouble reading as where my s3 wont even detect when the card goes in

It is still possible that the problem is the sd card - if the evo has better sd hardware, then that could explain why it isn't affected yet...
But it is also possible that the gs3's hardware is starting to fail - one way to test it is to try another sd card in the gs3. If it reads the other card just fine, that should be enough to reasonably rule out failing hardware (trying the card in a different phone is a good step, but not definitive proof by itself). If you don't have any spare sd cards, see if you can borrow a friend's for a minute (no need to alter their files, so hopefully you can find at least one person who won't have any objections)

Well I've put in 3 different cards right now, including the one that initially gave me trouble(without any fotmatting) and the phone has read all of them no problem.

Weird (hopefully in a good way) - did you make any changes to the phone between then and now?
