Hi all, so I followed the namaste guide to root my phone with a locked bootloader. Everything fine and I'm very impressed with the battary life. The only problem is when I update to 2.3.3 I get an error saying the update has failed.
I read somewhere that I'd need to reflash with a different image. I would just like someone to confirm if the following ROM is the one I'm looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038412
And finally can I still follow the namaste guide, replacing the image file, or would I need to start from scratch?
Anyways all help is appreciated.
Zak
You need a stock as possible ROM, so start from scratch and update to the latest 2.3.4 in one go.

Thanks for the reply ExperienceD but does that mean that not the firmware I should flash with?
Check the thread in general about updating to 2.3.4

Hi,
I got my phone stuck on bootloop, and can't find a good idiot-proof guide on how to fix this without the ability to get into recovery.
Here's what happened:
Last night I figured I'd give it another shot trying to get a custom rom on my Arc. This didn't work because I couldn't get into recovery anymore (??)
So just now I figured I'd re-install CWM, so I ran the program, it didn't work.
So I ran it again; Didn't work.
Well, I ran it again, and the program said it worked; So i try to boot into recovery, and it's boootlooping ((
I don't know what happened here (it has to have something to do with the cwm installation program), and I don't really care at this point. I just hope there is someone here that's willing to write up how to get it working again.(in an idiot-proof guide )
Thanks in advance guys
I would just re install stock either by using pcc or seus, or flashtools which is the preferred method for most.
If using flashtools you can choose which stock rom to use look in the stickies for the need roms etc.

were you using my CWM app on ICS? that is prob why you had problems i have not had time to update it for the latest firmware
Pvy.
I rooted once before and then went back to OFW because the XPlay was fairly new and not a lot could be done. I've been looking through the CM7 thread and I like a lot of the functionality it brings to the phone so I was wondering how to go about popping that on my phone. I remember rooting with Gingerbread but then that became impossible once I upgraded firmware. Since the XPlay isn't going to support ICS it's basically dead to me so CM7 was my personal last chance before I consider getting a new phone so what's the easiest and noob friendly way to get CM7 on my phone.
Thanks in advance.
The boot.img within the CM7 zip is pre-rooted from what I remember. Just drag and drop the img out of the zip without unpacking it and your set to flash CM7.

You will need an unlocked bootloader and fastboot drivers. Fma965 made a nice tutorial. And if you have both, you can follow my tutorial

EDIT:
This is a step by step guide. What I was looking on this forum but found on other forums and hours of google searches...
downgraded the build/firmware from .285 -> .270
To do this I:
1) Downloaded and installed flashtools on my computer
2) Downloaded .270 build Xperia_Play_3.0.1.B.0.270_ATT.rar
3) Then I followed this YouTube Video.
4) Next I downloaded SuperOneClick [SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip]
5) Then I followed this YouTube Video.
I was done in under 30mins.
I now have a rooted r800AT on ver 2.3.3 with build/firmware .270.
----------------------------------------------
OP:
So as a good noob I have looked on the threads, I have searched google, youtube, and this website, I have studied the wiki, and I have even rooted other phones in the past.
I recently purchased an xperia play r800at.
I just want to root it. No custom roms necessary. I would prefer ICS but GB is fine.
I have not found a thread explaining how to root an xperia play v2.3.3 with build .285.
It seems ONLY build .270 and anything before Nov 2011 is able to be rooted [reference here].
The only solution I can think of at this point is to downgrade from .285 to .270 however there is nothing I can find on the internet to do this (or if that's even possible).
Please help. Thanks.
Once you root .270 you can update OTA to .285 and keep root.

Can't really do OTA, because I don't intend to use it as a phone and I also don't have ATT.
However, a new issue arose... I have lost access to the playstation pocket and can't play the crash bandicoot that was pre-installed.
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036249
But they are all dead links now.
Man I was stupid not to make a copy of my SD card... ugh
If you flashed the stock ftf it should have put it back on there.

What does this(^) mean? The link which OP posted is for stock ftf only, right?
(At least it is so, according to this:xperiagamer.com/Stock-Roms/233-se-stock-firmware-for-flashtool.html)
What was the thing which OP did wrong? My phone is currently sim unlocked. Will I loose it if I flash the stock firmware?
As you can see from my questions, I am a total n00b.
Thanks
Hey could someone help me out here? So I rooted my phone last week. I was running ICS and things went pretty good. Then I suddenly decided to flash CM10. CM10 is good but I find it a little too buggy on my phone. I desperately want to get back to the ICS I was running before. I've searched and searched, I haven't found any answers as to how to go about doing things. Can someone help me and guide me step by step? I bricked my phone trying it myself but I solved the bricking issue. But I still just got CM10 back and not ICS. Could anyone please please please guide me?

Thanks a lot for your help.
I didn't do that though...what I did do was download Emma from Sony's official site, connected my phone and it did the rest for me. I was given the official Ginger Bread update. Later I tried using the PC Companion to get to ICS but it said that my software has been modified. For this I re-locked my bootloader and then went ahead with the official ICS update. Lastly, I rooted my phone again! Worked smooth and perfect, easy steps.
^All this may benefit someone else reading so I posted this.
Thanks anyways buddy, given you the thumbs up!
Hi everyone,
My HTC Sensation went to hell and my friend from T-Mobile had a brand new SII around so he gave it to me. I know the Sensation inside and out but have no knowledge of the SII so I was hoping someone could point me to a thread that will tell me how to root on my specific baseband.
Model: SGH-T989
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband: T989UVLI1
Kernel: 3.0.8
Build: IMM76D.UVLI1
I tried searching "root UVLI1" and "root T989UVLI1" but only found someone saying they don't see why it won't root. Nothing concrete like "You can definitely root by following XXXXX's post."
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I use galaxy s ii toolbox to root mine from the dev section. Basically get everything installed and follow the prompts. You flash the recovery through oden, sideload root.zip then flash that in CWM recovery.
You need Odin to root. Very easy to do. Go to galaxy2root.com. You flash your custom recovery thru Odin. Then you flash Supersu via your new recovery. The site gives you step by step instructions

This was the only guide I found with working links. And if you have any questions just ask...I've had both devices and this one really is a lot easier to root and unroot, actually almost the same process. This phone is easy once you do it so here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195283

Okay, so you have all personally used the Odin recovery with UVLI1 baseband? I just don't want to use the method on a newer baseband and have problems.
EDIT: And thank you for the responses!
EDIT 2: Actually, I'll just try it out. I feel like I'm starting to be a hassle. I apologize.
If your running Jelly Bean the instructions will state which recovery to use. If you are unsure just Google "how to root T-Mobile Galaxy s2 via Odin".
And yes....I have used Odin many times to root my phone and my friends.
Let us know when ya get rooted. Plenty of good ROMs for the S2.

yep I did that, went to galaxy2root.com and I rooted my gs2 without problems, yes the site gives you everything just make sure to pick your right device
Rooted!
Thanks everyone! I truly appreciate all of you taking the time to answer my questions!
The website was actually galaxys2root.com (with an 's', in case someone else reads this thread in need of help) and the process went smoothly--far smoother than when rooting the Sensation. I don't think I'll ever purchase an HTC phone again.
Now time to check out some ROMs!!!
P.S. My join date is November 2011. When I try to edit, I get a message that says I have to wait five minutes and "All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed." How long does it take before they verify my account? It's been about 15-16 months lol.
Not a problem. Glad you got rooted with no problems.
If you like TW Jelly Bean ROMs you need to see Jedi Jelly. Very nice rom.

Hahahaha yes I ate the "s" as well, but nice to know you are rooted, now ROMs its something else,I recommend the ones with ICS base for a start, I used JMT for long time without problems
