Sorry if this has been answered.. I searched but didnt find the answer.
Anyway I bought a s3 last week and the charging port didnt work but it had a charger and extra battery with it so i didnt think much of it. It is a i897 with 2.2 firmware.
I dont like the 2.2 and was going to root it and update to 2.3 or ICS but quickly realized all of the info on that relies on connecting to a computer which i cannot do. So my question is if anyone can point me in the right direction to root and update this phone or do I just sell it and recoup as much of my money as possible and try to get another phone?
Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks
This phone comes with ics, did you perhaps post in the wrong forum? If not can you clarify, your post is a bit confusing.

Mine hAs froyo ...this is a 2010 model phone
Sorry it is a captivate not s3
I'll clarify: that phone, i897, is not a galaxy s3. The captivate is a much older, albeit exceptional (per its time) phone.

Hello,
I am a proud owner of a SGS3(SGH-I747M) from koodo. Is there and offical forum for koodo members and this phone on the site? I got here from a google search. I was scrolling through the lists in the forums but did not find anything. Again, I love this phone!
Cheers!

Nope. this forum is fine for your koodo phone. I think...flash at your own risk.

I think Ill play it safe and wait for some more input before doing so. Id buy a second one just to play around with it but I would like to see other koodo members out there do some testing before I go ahead myself.
Only reason right now is I purchased a large mem card and want to move all the bloat ware, music/ringtones/media, ect over as the internal memory only shows up at 12gig. I was baffled at first. Thought they had the 16gig and 32gig models only. Or is it that the 4 gig is partitioned for system use? Still gettin all the info into my noggin. What a phone!

So 16GB (1000 bytes/kilobyte) is actually only 14.9GiB (1024 bytes/kilobyte) which is what the system actually sees. After the 1.5GB system partition and various other small partition, your usable user-accessible storage comes out to ~12GB.

Koodo is a subsidiary of Telus, not Bell.
Anybody on here successfully rooted a koodo s3 phone?
I did. Install a rooted stock rom from Telus.
I have the koodo stock root installed. Thanks guys. Now I want to make it brick proof. Trying to install clockwork recovery but cant find a compatible file. Waiting for clockwork to put my phone on the compatibility list.

I think that could be right seeing as this is a tiny update in general.
Here we go again...
Please, don't create expectations or start rumours about possible ETA's.
You've seen it with the 4.1.1 update, carriers can hold up the process undefinitely if they feel like it no matter the "size" of the said update.
I read about this last night too. There's no way of knowing when or if we will ever see this officially. Just as European S3's got the multi-window already it's up to the carriers. I'm sure they'll find some way to get it in a custom rom on here when its out.
We'll probably have the Galaxy S4 before this update even arrives..

What does this have to do with this thread???
Sounds interesting but I wouldn't get my hopes up for a release any time soon.
I'll go w/ my original guess of January 17th.
I'll go with my guess of A LONG TIME FROM NOW. Carriers are usually like hey, we just sent out an update a month ago, why send another one now? Let's wait for pigs to fly.

So far, it would just be the international i9300 version in Poland or the UK.
Nothing for the i747 yet. You will still have to wait a few weeks for the leak.
I've been toying with the idea of changing the CSC on my phone to trick Samsung Kies to download it to my phone.

I'll be leaving it stock as is and patiently wait until the update is released.
I just want to know "when" it will be released so that I don't have to keep checking daily.
they just look like apps can't it extracted from international version and installed through recovery?

I believe it WILL work as you've said. The APK files themselves would be the universal part.

You can download, and extract the files from above as you so desire.

it's much more complicated than just the APKs. you need the modified jar files as well, which will boot loop a Us Gs3. search for the GS2 tutorial on how to run multiwindow to see how complicated it really is. in theory, it is possible to modify the jellybean us GS3 files to get it all running on our phones. but, it will take some talent.
Hi guys, just wanted to post this question. I talked my girlfriend into getting a gs3...she has had every iphone. This is her first android phone : ) I really hope she will keep it and learn it. But i'm a verizon guy and she is a att gal. I asked the sales rep at att today if the jellybean was released for att. He said no. I even checked myself and checked it's latest... She is running ice cream and no update was available. Did you guys get an official update and how can i get it for her? I don't want to root her phone. Thanks everyone.

JB is out but update via Samsung Kies only on the pc!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Damn why so....that sucks. Why couldn't att push it like other carriers? She likes the iphone due to simplicity and this just makes things harder for her....just really don't want her to go back to an iphone.

If that doesn't work for you, you can use Odin to flash one of the stock images yourself.

Why this sucks. Don't she have to use iTunes if she want to upgrade her iPhone? Just connect S3 to pc, open kies and notification will popup about update after phone is detected. Follow instruction and in about 10-20 min she will be on jelly bean.

I did search with both the site and Google and couldn't find anything. Has anyone rooted the AT&T Galaxy Tab 8.4 SM-T707 yet? I see lots of other models but not this one. Thanks in advance!
Nope. No root for att model
If you just bought it and were planning to mod it, return it. I made the mistake of getting one, and learned about the root and custom roms situation too late.
Can't afford one without the ATT next program so I guess I get to wait until they do root it. Oh well. Thing is frickin sweet.
Root or not it's a awesome tablet. Especially with that screen! Lol. But once you do get it rooted and debloated or flash a custom rom. You'll see how well it truely performs. Got my fingers crossed for you getting a root soon man
SM-T707D, a variant of Galaxy Tab S 8.4 for Japanese carrier NTT-Docomo, can be rooted with using cf-auto-root modified by Japanese dev Tesuri. (not myself)
I have no idea if it works also for SM-T707A, but you guys can download the modified cf-auto-root from the link in the following tweet.
https://twitter.com/tesuri/status/547412357031292930?s=09
FYI) CPU of SM-T707D is Snapdragon 800. 'SC-03G' in the tweet is carrier's device name for SM-T707D.
Sorry, I've misunderstood. T707A's chipset is not S800 but Exynos. Plaese do NOT try to use the cf-auto-root above.
Bump

Me too. Nothing, even commercially, for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE 707A
Thanks.
Still no root?
Count me in with the others who bought this without realizing it wouldn't have TWRP or custom kernel or CM12 like the WiFi model. Ugh.
The problem is ATT lock their bootloaders. Locked bootloaders mean only official firmware can be flashed.
Some will just reject it, some will brick your device.

Why does it need confirming? Just try it.
Kingroot worked on my T707A, but now the Daydream screensaver never kicks in. I guess it's a decent trade off for being able to install Adaway, Xposed Mods and full SD card access.
Edit:
I uninstalled the KingMaster application and now Daydream works fine. Seems that KingMaster app tries to close certain things down to save battery.
