Halo Waypoint ATLAS - real-time Halo maps on WP7 - Windows Phone 7 General

Yep, step by step, Halo is making it's way to WP7. http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6340355/halo-waypoint-shouldering-atlas-redesign-due-this-fall

this looks awesome! I just hate how everything is "coming"....xbox companion app, halo waypoint ATLAS, skype, etc...

Make your HD completely finger-friendly!

I've made some efforts to completely replace all the standard Windows Mobile applications on my Touch HD with finger-friendly ones that offer fluid scrolling.

Newest video with WAD themes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iV3wNMqcj8
You can also continue using TouchFlo3D together with all the other finger-friendly apps in the package!
Use SSMaPa to make them default: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407777
You can make even better skins with Wisbar Advance Desktop.
Other than Winterface, it completely replaces the today screen, offers the (imo) beautiful iPhone-like launch animation and is completely customizable.
It produces less battery drain and is more stable than Winterface.
As it completely replaces the today screen, you can embed any shortcuts, today plugins, all kinds of status icons (e.g. RSS, weather, tasks, wifi...) and you can choose whether to display the taskbar and/or bottom bar or hide them.
There are some beautiful WAD skins in this forum, but I chose to make one myself because I wanted to have the launch animations.
You have to put some effort into it but Wisbar Advance Desktop is really great and better than Winterface, in my opinion, which produced crashes and did only sit on top of the today screen instead of replacing it.
Well, back to my package. I thought I'd share it with you:

Finger friendly but not user friendly
In fact ,I don't like iphone style, just like the shourtcut on desktop
Why? It makes my Touch HD a lot easier to use! So yes, it's user friendly.
Nice ! Will be sure to test it.
If someone wants a user-friendly phone, please go buy iphone instead. The reason I bought HD was of its hardware / screen and the unlimited possibilities to change everything / code without owning a stupid mac.
Thanks again for this awesome package.

It's not the reason to do not transform the HTC in a finger friendly phone with hardware and screen that roxxxx
it's really awesome, seen on your HD. But on mine i've never seen something more unstable than Vito apps: it's a continuous crash, it runs in full screen, it takes control of the device and overrides everyting. it's a pity, since winterface has really a good look. But i have bought a wm device to HAVE control, and with winterface i feel i have an iphone in my hands
Looks really good!!
Did you add this for chat?
nice work maati might give it a try just to see what it's like....
You can also watch the video.
I will probably add Throttlelauncher and FingerMenu to the next version (ThrottleLauncher has just been updated for WVGA).
Perhaps I can also find some easy to use IM application (does Pigeon still crash?).
That's a really nice idea and an interesting set of applications. Thanks for sharing those - there are some (like TaskFacade) that I wasn't aware of before.
How do you assign TaskFacade to a button?
How on earth do you install these themes for Winterface?
There is no Skin or Theme icon in Winterface and I can't find anywhere on the net how to install a skin.
Can someone please help?

Touch HD WINDOWS MOBILE 7 SKIN

This is my first skin for Wisbar Advance Desktop, and I think it's pretty good... The white circle at the bottom is an on-screen scroll wheel, sort of like an iPod, to make on screen navigation easier and quicker. The Windows Icon launches the programs list (i.e. start menu). It also features a new start menu almost identical to beta versions of Windows Mobile 6.5, as well as a sort of TouchFlo 3D-esque interface. I will be releasing it along with a new website later this month, as I still have a few things left to do on both the website (giovani-design.com), and the software. I promise it's gonna be sweet though! Anyway tell me what you think and hopefully I'll be releasing it soon!
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1...efrontcopy.jpg
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/914...ntcopymedi.jpg
My email address is [email protected] if you have any questions. I will try to answer them as fast as I can.
Included software and programs:
Windows Mobile WAD skin ~ Giovani|Design edition
calculator skin ~ Giovani|Design edition
new start menu ~ Giovani|Design edition
iPod-like scroll-wheel
WA3 Themes to streamline all task bars, buttons, fonts, etc.
New fonts (Futura, Modern No. 20, Eurostile, etc.)
New start up sound and image ~ Giovani|Design edition
Custom sounds
Custom Windows Media Player skin and home screen integration ~ Giovani|Design edition
New loading color wheel ~ Giovani|Design edition
Possibly new picture viewer similar to the Microsoft Surface Concept UI
ALL NEW ICONS for all programs ~ Giovani|Design edition
New dialer skin ~ Giovani|Design edition
Other handy freeware from various developers to optimize usability and functionality
Modern clock on screen when locked, similar to the Blackberry Bold
AND MUCH MORE!!!
It looks and sounds very good!
Can't wait to try it.
Will you link to your webpage from here?
Yes, I will be posting the website here. It may take some time though as this is a bundle of both premium software, and a completely redisigned user interface, exclusively from Giovani|Design. There is a preview of what the website's start page will look like on this thread so be on the lookout for it. As always, feel free to ask any questions. I check my email on a daily basis so a quick response shouls be expected.
Hail SILLWANDERZ!!
This sound fantastic!! Really can't wait man..
For sure i will test it.
Keep up the great work!
Sounds and looks promising hope to see it soon.
Thanks! I am positive that this will be one of the most smooth-running streamlined UI, no clutter everywhere like other UI's, and everything is being tested specifically on the HTC Touch HD. It will probably be for the more advanced users of the Touch HD because the UI is actually in a big folder. This folder will contain WAD and WA3 files to redo the home screen, toolbars, fonts, etc. The folder will also contain many .CAB files that are either software designed by Giovani|Design (such as the iPod-like scroll wheel), skins (dialer skin, calculator skin, Windows Media Player skin, etc.), or software that alters the sound and image the phone produces when it starts up.

NEW Panels Available on PlayNow

Sony Ericsson has released some new panels on their PlayNow Arena.
Panels added (as of 12/05/09):
-Facebook BETA (X2)
-Twitter
-LiveJournal
-Youtube
-Tracker (X2)
SE also added Pixel City Day & Night links on PlayNow.
I got really excited about trying these out, so I might have skipped some added ones
Link
UPDATE! [01/31/10]
Twitter X2 Panel was released today at PlayNow. Not sure what the difference would be, but it seems like it sports some new features, because of the file size difference.
Also, an On-the-Road Panel for the X2 was released as well.
Personal Rating for Panels
Twitter Panel: 9/10
-Same UI as Facebook Panel, gives a seamless look when switching over
-Takes just as long to load as Facebook Panel
-Nice light blue interface, revamped buttons in terms of shadowing, etc.
Facebook Panel BETA: 7/10
-I haven't noticed much of a difference yet with the old and new, other than minor performance tweaks. Maybe some type of integration with another app..?
-Slightly faster loading times than original
-Typos and minor punctuation fixed
Youtube Panel: ?/10
-Yet to be installed.
-X2 Panel Manager and Google Youtube Player required to use.
LiveJournal Panel: ?/10
-I don't have a LiveJournal account, but it's UI from the log in screen is similar to FB and Twitter Panels.
-Looks like it was rushed a little bit to be compiled, b/c the panel description is the same as Facebook's description when selecting the panel.
Tracker Panel: ?/10
-ALSO, yet to be installed.
-I think X2 Panel Manager is required for this Panel. It's a Java program; it gives an error message when it opens during installation, and error message from installation window.
Twitter X2 Panel: 9/10
-Not sure what the difference is between X1 and X2 panels. Will check the cab registries later on.
On-the-Road Panel X2: 9/10
-Gives the option to choose the maps application you want to use. (Displays all start menu items)
-Same GPS loading times as X1 Panel, but I didn't expect that to be updated.
-Finds the amount of songs in a specific folder faster (around 50% less time; depends on amount of files)
Is there a big difference between the x1 facebook panel, and the x2 facebook panel?

Not from what I see atm.
The most I see is the performance change in the "bubble view" for status updates.

Or an FML Panel, perhaps? I like to keep updated with my FMLs.
There also is the Google Panel that links to Gmail, but it's kind of useless.
Any way to link straight to a panel rather than the panels app?

Not completely sure. Pubba made a panel launcher for the MediaXperience and Radio Panels, but that's basically it.
Linking straight to a panel kind of defies the purpose of it as well, but you could do a little research.
I basically just want the facebook panel packaged as an app as the standard winmo one is awful and this one is lovely
Where is the pictures?

Well, you can either:
1) Install the panel on your device to see what it's like; or
2) Go the the PlayNow arena and view the screenshots (if available)
I don't see the need to post screenshots, as the panels look exactly the same, and close to everyone in the XPERIA X1 section of the forum has an X1.

Using WM6.5.x Control styles in own (.NET) programs?

Hello,
since WM6.5.3 the standard Controls like Buttons, Comboboxes, TabControls, Checkboxes etc. have a new Style with gradient Backgrounds and sometimes rounded edges.
If you develop programs with the .NET CF you will get the boring old style. Is there any way to enable the new style for .NET applications?
The only thing I found was this "hack" for the TabControl:
mobileworld.appamundi.com/blogs/peterfoot/archive/2009/09/17/windows-mobile-6-5-tab-control.aspx
(sorry, seems that I'm not allowed to post outside links)
I searched a lot for this but even the documentation from Microsoft gives no hint how to do this.
There is also a new control in many system control panels which replaces the TabControl (the navigation thing at top of the form for example in sounds and notification settings). Is there any chance to use this control in my own programs?
It is really annoying that Microsoft has developed a new themeable style for their controls and nobody can use it
Thanks a lot
Markus
You can but it requires overriding the controls paint events and imo is not worth the hassle. If you want fancy looking controls then you would be better off with 3rd party controls. There's several options out there and some are free. Read about some at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616838
If you want to work with the native controls and spruce them up a bit check out http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/uiframework for some guidance.

thanks for your answer but I don't want to create custom controls or use some 3rd party controls. I want to use the standard controls but with the WM6.5.x style.
Microsoft is really stupid. They were on a good way with 6.5.x. The user interface of the standard apps is mostly consistent and finger friendly. But they forget 3rd party developers now completely. I want to be able to create apps with the system look and feel but it seems that it is not possible. So my own applications have always an inconsistent look when I use standard controls. I always get the old style but when I open a messagebox then I get buttons in the new style.
Microsoft, this is really crap!
You'll have to wait for Windows Phone 7 if you want perfect consistency. Microsoft isn't going to update the controls for 6.5.
Hey there!
Today I did some research into controls, and I found out how to enable 6.5.3 style for buttons and checkboxes. You have to:
edit2: for dialogs - open .rc file in a text editor, and find your dialog, then after a line beggining with STYLE add a line with following contents:
Code:
EXSTYLE 0x1800000
Compile it and run. You should get 6.5.3 look and feel on existing controls without changing them!
Or if you want to create controls in runtime (works good for buttons, checkboxes/radio buttons look ugly):
1) call SHInitExtraControls()
2) when creating a button/checkbox use class TTBUTTON and make sure its style is combined with 0x8000
3) Use 'em like normal buttons.
Now it's time for listboxes & others...
edit2: To mimic 6.5.3 listbox behavior you have to set item height to 64 (or 32 for (W)QVGA), for example in this way:
Code:
SendDlgItemMessage(hwndDlg, IDC_COMBO1, CB_SETITEMHEIGHT, -1, 64);
SendDlgItemMessage(hwndDlg, IDC_COMBO1, CB_SETITEMHEIGHT, 0, 64);
To expand list views, use a empty image list with a proper image height (64 or 32), for example:
Code:
HIMAGELIST il;
il = ImageList_Create(1, 64, ILC_COLOR, 0, 1);
SendDlgItemMessage(hwnd, IDC_LIST1, LVM_SETIMAGELIST, LVSIL_SMALL, (LPARAM) il);
edit: Oops, forgot you want it in .NET. Quick investigation lead me to a sad fact: .NET controls have the wrong window class. But if .NET dialogs are stored in resources there is hope. So I would be grateful if someone post here a compiled .NET application which would show a dialog with a button linked to some simple action. I might try to modify it for 6.5.3 style.

[app] make toast notification from script!

Have you ever wished you can raise an awesome Windows 8 styled notification in your system script or desktop app? Turns out that you can do just that!!!
I saw an article on msdn that says desktop apps in Windows 8 can actually raise a modern toast notification, though there is no scripting way to do so (including powershell). So I followed the sample code and made a small console app that takes care of raising toasts. Try the attached!
Example:
Toast "hello world!"
Note that the first time this app runs it will create a shortcut on your start screen. This is necessary to raise toasts. You can unpin it but don't delete.
And obviously, you need to be running Windows 8 or RT.
