HTC Contacts misses databases - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have WF with RemPuzzle 7.3 full and nFinity mc4 kernel (768/254 ondemand) and DT Apps2SD
I synced my phone with Facebook (for Sense), LinkedIn, Whatsapp, Endomondo. All these apps store some contacts on phone.
Problem is, the People app (htccontacts) "forgot" about additional accounts. I can search and find any contact through Menu>Search, but When I enter Menu>View there are only SIM, Phone and Google contacts listed.
What's more - some of contacts cannot be clicked (message: such contact wasn't found), I recently edited a bunch of them on Gmail contacts. Maybe that's the problem? But it should update and everything should be fine.
I also noticed, that my contact card has an outdated facebook profile photo.
Has anybody had this issue? Some ideas how to repair it?

synching contacts

I'm still confused about syncing contacts. I have a Desire on Orange. I have a gmail account, and I use the htc mail app and connect to my gmail account using exchange. I sync my contacts to my gmail account using `google/sync contacts` from the sync page, and I sync my mail using `exchange activesync`. I do this because I can see/edit my contacts via the web gmail page (which is easier/faster than doing it on the phone), and because the mail app is better than the gmail app. But it seems that I have some contact information on my phone which is not visible via the gmail website. To pick one example, it's showing as a `linked contact` between 'exchange' and 'google'. Can I see my exchange contacts online? Where are they? I want them in one place, so I can back them up occasionally (I've already lost my contacts once as I set my phone up). It would seem to make sense, given that some contact info appears to be on exchange somewhere, to have them all there - then I can stop syncing with 'google' on my phone altogether, but I have to be able to see/edit/back them up first.
I've tried googling for this, but all I see is Googles own pages for other platforms, non-free apps to do exchange etc etc.

I have the same issues too
Well i don't use exchange, but i can say how i use my gmail sync:
I use Sync/google account on the definitions menu to sync my google calendar, contacts and mail.
This allows me to use mail on gmail app (not htc mail app), calendar on android calendar (i can use htc calendar widgets) and manage online contacts.
Since i previously added my "phone" contacts to phone memory and to a group on google contacts, they have linked to each other and i can mantain an online and local copy of them (this is great to add a hi res picture to contact, since i add the picture to online and local and then choose local picture to be displayed).
I do know that some fields from online google contacts and local contacts are different, and i think this is as stupid as the picture not having quality on google contacts online, but i hope they would solve it in a near future.
I hope that from now on, since google is saying that the BIG changes on Android are done, they will spend some time dealing with the little details that can be very annoying...
Same issue here.
Sync of Contacts
Google-Contacts -> Desire: works
Desire -> Google-Contacts: dosent work
If i try to add or change a birthday on the phone it does not arrive theo google-contacts account. The other way works. Biggest issue on this fine phone.

Hi, that issues are from Android and Gmail and not from the Desire.
You should add birthday dates to Google contacts or else the synchronization wont work well, but i do agree these are major stuffs that really annoy me!
There could be an interesseting thing.
I have Software-Version 1.15.XXXX (T-Mobile, rooted Phone) and i found an O2 User with 1.20.XXX - he said it works at his phone.

Uau! How can he have an 1.20.xxx? I have unlocked Desire also with 1.15.XXX and no updates for me!
Well I now have 1.21.405.2 updated from ota.

[Q] Facebook contacts added to phone

Hi,
I've got an issue, not a massive one but it bugs me nonetheless.
Currently, when I tap the Phone button from the home screen it brings up a list which shows my recent call list, if I scroll down I get a long list of all my contacts. The thing I find annoying is that the long list includes all of my Facebook "friends" that have a telephone number listed.
What I would like is for this list to only contain my contacts (copied over from my SIM), and for the ones that are linked to a Facebook account, to have their status etc updated. I do not want my random Facebook "friends" to be in the list.
The most recent thing I've done to try and solve this issue is to go into the Facebook app on the phone and change the 'Sync Contacts' settings (Menu-> Settings) to 'Don't sync'. I then went into (phone) Settings-> Applications-> Manage Applications-> All (tab)-> Contacts storage-> Clear Data. I then copied my contacts back over from the SIM. (I've also tried the 'Sync with existing contacts' option as well)
All was well for a while, my contacts linked up again and I got facebook details for my contacts when calling them. However I noticed to my annoyance that my Phone list now contains my facebook contacts again!
I notice under Settings->Accounts and Sync I have two (removable) Facebook accounts, one is Facebook, the other is Facebook for HTC Sense. Does anyone know if it would help to remove either of these accounts?
Can anyone help me find a way to solve this issue (preferably without extra software or going through the People menu)?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Grim.
I just fixed this myself.
I think it's something to do with how HTC Facebook interacts with official Facebook. If I turned of syncing on both (but left contact sync disabled in both) I'd still get contacts in Phone (and also in suggestions in sms app). If I removed both, then added Facebook official only I'd still get them.
In the end, opening up Facebook on my PC and going into privacy then apps and disabling Facebook for HTC Sense seemed to solve it to me. I could then use the official Facebook app without getting all these contacts I'd never use.
I didn't care about getting contact pictures and stuff so I never tried letting official Facebook sync with existing contacts only, but it might work properly.
Hope this helps, completely unscientific but it seemed to for me!

Hi JBrizz thanks for your reply.
I didn't think of logging into the facebook website to disable anything. I'll give that a try.
In the meantime I've fiddled about with the accounts in 'Accounts and Sync'. I've tried deleting both the Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense accounts.
After deleting both I went into the Facebook app and signed in, which recreates the account in Accounts and Sync. I set the sync options in the app to not sync any contacts. I waited around for a while and no extra contacts (from Facebook) appeared in my Phone list.
I then went into the Facebook app and changed the sync settings to 'sync with existing contacts' - which I assumed should only sync the data for the people currently in my phone book? Anyway after a few minutes I checked an all of my Facebook friends were now in my Phone list AGAIN
I started from fresh again and tried a similar thing with the other Facebook for HTC Sense account - I had to recreate this in the Accounts and Sync settings screen.
Again after a few minutes all my Facebook friends where there on my Phone list
Maybe this functionality isn't available with this phone / app?
Anyone else have any ideas?
It is a google problem, not a HTC problem.
The HTC app is doing what it should be doing. If you go to the people app, click on your contact (far left) and then menu -> view you can see the facebook option is unchecked.
However the Phone dialer (google product) just syncs everything.
There is a issue no for this, 10618 @

Best thing to do is you guys reply and make this defect more and more noticeable.
I've posted on the google issue site, cheers for the link!

[Q] Contacts photos syncrosing problem

Team,
I was using 2.3.3 and now upgraded to ICS 4.04. The problem is in 2.3.3 when I login facebook and gmail I was getting contacts with photos but in ICS 4.04 and cm7 I am getting only contactsd not photos. Please help me with sugestions. I have tried logout and login somany times.
So please can any one suggest me to go different rom in which contacts photos syncronise. Please help me..
I was investigating this issue for some time, and the only "solid" solution I found was - to use a 3rd party app to do it (search SyncMyPix on AppStore). The problem is that if you turn on the facebook contacts sync, it doesn't work always (for me - never). It just downloads a bunch of contact data to your contacts, and you would have to "merge" facebook account phonebook entries with proper contacts manually. So, SyncMyPix worked ok after I gave up on manually setting everything.

Contacts duplicating

I cannot seem to figure out WTF is going on. As soon as I add new contact in contacts list, it gets duplicated. If I delete one of the contacts, other one gets deleted as well. Why?
I`m on 9.0

I have the same issue... I think it has something to do with Google and the synchronization
Oh great, its not me alone then. Its driving me nuts, can`t figure out why its doing it.
are you using google to sync your contacts or another service?
if you have multiple Accounts you can switch them in the contacts app.
also you can try to logout from your google account and login again
No, sync disabled.
How? Via play store?
Noob here. When I was on Samsung sometimes the contacts would save to my SIM card, which gave me the same problem as you. Don't know if the A2 lite has same problem.
Sent from outer space.
I tried to find such option, but I cannot find where it offers to save on sim.
Do you use Whatsapp? I remember some time ago similar issue, manifested as duplicated contacts (one from Google Contacts, one from Whatsapp) visible during checking contacts in Google Dialer - and only there. Contacts seen by Contacts app were correctly presented.
Yes I use Whatsapp. I disabled contacts sync in whatsapp.
Strange how one of the contacts has whatsapp icon, other one doesn`t. I can press whatsapp icon and message that contact directly.
VoilĂ , well-known error in Google Dialer, without (yet) any solution. Not sure if THIS will help, as I do not own A2 lite right now - however I can have access to it later and then surely see how it is working.
I found sim card sync setting. Go to settings, account, sim card look if sync is on.
Sent from outer space.
Sync if off there.
I can confirm that the solution I linked in the post #11 works. I had one duplicate contact, after performing all the steps described contacts were merged successfully
Please bare with me.
I am not sure I understand the issue and/or solution.
My issue is that there are not real duplicate contacts in the contacts app.
Only in dialer each contact shows twice:
One entry is the "regular" one.
The other shows Whatsapp links to chat, call and video call if opened.
Having two lines per contact in dialer is anoying.
But there are actual copies of contacts in the contacts app.
Is there a workaround to clean the dialer view?
Thanks,
v
Did you try the solution I mentioned in a post just above yours? https://forum.xda-developers.com/max-pro-m2/how-to/guide-duplicate-contacts-google-dailer-t3883924
Did you guys are maybe using Revolut?
If you have many duplicate images in your system, Then you must try the Duplicate Photos Fixer app. It will clean your storage from unnecessary photos and make your device smooth.
If you want to remove duplicate contacts, there are several free apps on the Google Play store that can help you remove duplicate contacts.

[QUESTION] Contacts won't showing others networks

Hello.
Just got this phone 2 days ago. Already updated it to Pie, first Android One I have.
I noticied Contacts is not showing information about other apps inside contacts details, like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.
In a "normal situation", when you open a contact, these information will be present bellow contact details, but for me isn't showing.
Is Android One this way, or I'm missing something?
Thanks in advice.
Android one is not miui.
Contacts is a standard Google app. If works the same on any phone.
If you don't like it, you can find alternatives in the store.
I just checked and I could add various "IM" accounts to a contact, and they showed up when viewing the contact...

I know we don't have miui here. Isn't the point.
My own profile is showing with all information bellow my phone numbers, but all other contacts don't.
I noticied when I SEARCH for a contact inside app, it shows 2 or more duplicates, and the information is there. So, maybe is a merging problem, but all my contacts is correctly merged!
As far as I know, Facebook, Messenger, or Instagram contacts can no longer be sync automatically with any contact app (due to facebook policy)(unless your phone is rooted)
Whatsapp contacts should be automatically sync, but sometimes they doesn't appear or appears as duplicates.
The solution for me was to use Merge + app which "really" merges contacts so that Whatsapp informations appears in contacts details without duplicates
I don't know about other IM apps...
