Market and Youtube problem on Wi-Fi (CM 7) - Defy General

I've been having trouble trying to download apps or watching youtube videos on Wi-Fi since I installed CM7.
On the Market, when I try to install a new app or update an existing one, I get the download bar and status bar icon but the download just stalls at 0%, if I switch to 3G it works but my connection is ridiculously slow (I'm on a cheap 256kbps unlimited plan).
With Youtube, I can browse videos perfectly but when it comes to playing them, they won't start. I get the loading spinning circle for a couple of minutes and then I get the error and retry dialog.
Things I've already tried:
-Wiping cache and dalvik cache.
-Reflashing G-apps.
-Clearing data + cache + uninstalling updates of both apps.
-Signing in to Google Talk before attempting to download apps.
-Deleting the LOST.DIR on my SD Card (can't delete .android_secure).
I've seen this problem on other forums and other models but nothing seems to work for me, so maybe it's a Defy-only problem that hasn't been fixed yet.
Hope someone here has an answer for this.
TL;DR version: Youtube and Market don't work over Wi-Fi, only 3G.
EDIT: Just tried downloading (on 3G) and installing the Set DNS app and Youtube now works; no luck with the Market but at least it loads faster now...

If you can't go to the normal market, go to a black market is a good solution
Ex: Appplanet, aptoide...
It's good that youtube somehow fixed.

Thanks for your reply but I rather stay away from those kind of places, I don't want to take the risk of infecting my phone with something weird, lol. Besides I would lose the convenience of regular updates to all my apps.

I know.
I'm working on making a trusted repo. in Aptoide, where people will safe when installing apps in there.
Also, I will make it Defy-only.

@ Xummoner .. The SetDNS, which options did you select to get thru the YouTube?

I just went to Preferences and un-ticked the Override 3G DNS (since my 3G works fine and I don't want to take the chance of messing it up) and then on the main screen I chose Open DNS and Apply.
EDIT: I'm beginning to think that the issue is not related to the phone, or maybe is a combination of different things because a lot of users have been having the same problem in my country trying to access the Market and Youtube using Wi-Fi connected to a certain ISP which might be blocking the ports needed for the Market, but I'll have to investigate further.

Google Maps no longer functions

I posted before about my phone always starting up in airplane mode (here) after trying to get flash working on Opera.
Well for some reason, that has gone away. YAY!
But now, google maps no longer works. BOOoo!
What happened is that I started it up at the beginning of my weekly road trip, it looked like everything was working but the "Loading" note at the top was persistent AND traffic wasn't loading. If I moved the map around, new sections of the map were being downloaded without a problem. Opera works with no problem.
I then got this error:
Network Unavailable
This application requires a data connection. Please contact your carrier, or visit www.google.com/gmm/configure.html on your computer for more info.
(Error: wininetHttpError [0 12007])
I have had Google Maps die on me before so I keep the latest version on my SD card just in case. I removed Google and reinstalled. Now it doesn't even get to a map and gives the same error message.
Because of my weekly roadtrip, Google Maps is very important to me. Does anyone have any suggestions?
If you are having so many probs why don you just hard reset or even change ROM?
Perhaps that could help.
And don´t forget to vote for Rhodium
Hard reset is always an option but it is such a pain in the ass to reload everything that is working fine now.
As for loading a new ROM, for some reason I am told that I already unlocked my phone when I run the utility. Also, none of the ROMS look (or sound like they perform) all that different from AT&T's stock ROM after the available tweaks.
Scratch hard reset from the list of potential fixes.
Solved.

Weird Market Problems on Desire

Just got my HTC Desire today and everything is working fine apart from the android market. I have 3 problems:
1) I don't have the paid apps tab only top free and just in. I can see paid apps within the just in section, but not top paid apps.
2) When I clock on the install button I get a blank screen with just the background gui showing for at least 10-20 seconds before the confirmation screen that shows what permissions the app needs is finally shown.
3) Apps install correctly however they never get removed from the "currently downloading" list in the Downloads section of the android market.
I got the phone through virgin mobile and I am currently using a t-mobile sim in it. I have tried doing a factory reset which didn't solve the problem.
Anyone had any similar issues?
Liam
Please search before posting.
Your problems will be solved by removing t-mobile content lock. It can be done through their website or by calling customer service.
One problem will remain though: so far no one can see copy-protected apps because market is not recognizing our build number. It should be solved soon though.
Hi,
The phone actually came from Virgin Mobile, but for the moment I am using my old T-Mobile sim which used to be in my G1 which didn't have any problems with the market. I seem to remember de-activating the content lock when I used the browser for the first time on my g1.
I just checked on my t-mobile account details and I definitely have the content lock turned off.
I still have the same problem with the market, i.e. I get about 20 seconds of blank screen after clicking install before the permission confirmation details come up.
And after an app is installed it still shows in the download section as installing with the grey progress bar and doesn't disappear unless I go to the settings/Applications and clear the cache in download manager, market and force close the market app.
Anyone have any similar problems? I have done a full factory reset three times, still the same problems.
Liam
I just got mine, its a open one unbranded. I can neither connect to gtalk or download apps, both hang. I have read similar problems for the Droid, but the fixes dont work for me.
Also can you connect the device to the internet via the PC, like windows mobile ?
That's odd. My problems were solved by removing content lock.
Does the same thing happen on WiFi? Did you try to restart the device?
Regarding PC to phone tethering, it's not possible over USB. There are guides on how to do it over WiFi though.
Its the same for me : confirmed that content lock is off.
and still have this problem.
On Tmobile, upgraded from G1, same sim.
I get this on wifi or not.
If I restart the device, the Market Place states its installed correctly (like it should do). But installing another shows the same problem.
I've done a Factory Reset via the menu and that did solve it.
And I've just phoned tmo tech support, and they recommend resetting via fastboot.
I'll give that a go later, and post back the results.
Any other ideas?
Its really weird. Yesterday at a different wifi location it worked fine. But again its not working in work. I assume then the downloads are being blocked by the service provider, or the router.
Thats really crap you cannot connect to the internet via the USB cable like in windows mobile. I cant get my data service working either - so in work I have to work.
ok, I did a clear storage from the fastboot menu, I assumed that what he meant, had no effect.
but figured it out!!!!!!
its my gmail/Google account thats the problem! if I reset the phone and created a new account it works fine. log back in as me, bang. back as previously created new account, fine.
1. is this the same for other people?
2. the people who are having this problem, are you all previous Android users?
3. if so, what phone? me was G1.
I will have to raise a bug with android or google on this.
I now also have to ring back tmo and tell them this info, as I'm guessing by his language he want to take the phone back in.

Beware that while most apps like gmail, calendar, contacts, etc work using port 80 (HTTP), both google talk and android market use different ports.
In my school network I can't connect to gtalk or download from market because they block those ports on the firewall.
I previously had a g1 and think the problems I was having had something to do with my gmail account but it seemed to resolve itself after several factory resets.
I am not convinced that the factory reset was what fixed it, I just think it needed a bit of time to sort itself out.
I wonder if having a new device with the same gmail account causes the issue and it takes a while to recognise the new device. though that doesn't really explain the behaviour I was seeing.

I cannot find a way around this.
My google account shows the slowness and install problems, a test/temp/dummy/other account does not, I do not want to change my email address!
So I have emailed Google, see where that gets me.
Anyone know/think-of any other routes?

I am having problems with the Market on my new Desire. I previously had a G1.
1. When I select Downloads tab, it takes about 10 seconds before the loading text is displayed.
2. When selecting something to install, the 1st info page with the install button is displayed but with no info/text/etc, ie only the install button, again about a 10sec wait and the info shows fine.
3. When selecting install, the security confirm page is displayed but is blank, no text or buttons, another 10secs and its displayed.
4. If I actually go to install an app, it correctly redirects me back to the last market list page. From there if I go to Downloads, after the 10sec wait, it always states "installing", even when its finished, and pushed a notification up.
I can use the app, but the market always states installing. Even hours after. These all queue up and never clear.
Only rebooting the phone clears the installing app, and correctly marks them as installed.
5. Uninstalling app cannot be completed at all. I select uninstall, and it pops up the confirmation box, but then displays a blank page, and after the 10 or so seconds, displays the "Uninstalling application" with progress bar, but never completes. Again only a reboot corrects this.
All this occurs for any app.
I have done many Factory Resets from software, and Clear Storage from Fastboot.
Interestingly, my phone works corrected with a new account, I reset the phone and instead of signing in with my usual account, I created a new one, this worked very fast and correctly. Signing back in with my normal account again showed the same problems.

same problem here, gone from a G1 to HTC desire not tryed to sign up with a new account simply becasue i had the xxxx.xxxgmail mail now for over 18 months and rely on it.
All I know is that the day after I got my Desire, probably about 24 hours after first turning it on (and after 4 factory resets which may have nothing to do with it) I was installing an app, which had the same problems i.e. delayed permissions screen, remaining in the download screen even after being installed succesfully, then a few minutes later I went to install another app and it was fine, no delay, suddenly I had the Top Paid apps tab and apps did not remain in the download section as still downloading. It has been fine ever since.
It seems that all of us who have this problem have had G1s previously so it must be something to do with that.
I experienced this issue with my new desire but not one with older rom. Both from T-Mobile. The funny thing was first day it was running pretty slow, could not view paid apps either but now it is much faster as it should be and paid apps have appeared too. So it's working brilliantly.
i have market problems too... i cant see many market apps, including paid apps which i bought..
it's a free desire with vodafone spain sim.

That's a different issue, apparently Google have not yet added the HTC Desires "fingerprint" to some kind of database that enables access to apps with copy protection, this is why some apps you have previously purchased won't show up.
Apparently this happens with all new handsets, though why Google don't get this resolved before the phones release I don't know, as it doesn't give a great experience to the end user (HTC say they sent the fingerprint well before the phone was released but google haven't processed it yet).
Hopefully this should be resolved soon. Until then I have had to extract a few of my more regularly used protected apps from my G1 with root.
But it happens to me with free apps too.

Any application developer can choose to use copy protection, some free apps choose to do that.

[Q] After updating to 2.3.4 cellphone keeps donwloading updated version of an app

After updating to 2.3.4 cellphone keeps donwloading updated version of an app (in this case Angry Birds Season) multiple times. I already deleted the app, unnistalled but the only way to stop it seems to be deactivating any type of internet connection (wifi/3g)
Any way to fix it?
try unchecking 'automatically update' in the market page of that app
Happened to me. I uninstall update of market app. Then run market to see
Got a Headache? It's all in your Head.
I have to wait for it to finish downloading the multiple copies. It stopped after that. However, I want the app, and hoping the issue stopped I tried to install it again, but it started all over.
About the market update, the option "automatically update" is only turned on for foursquare (which I have to test again yet, was not working since last try).
Sometimes this happen due to the internet connection having intermittenly disturbance while updating which resulting having your device rescan and reupdating again and again. Or it can be also from human error as you press update button multiple times which triggered to a multiple downloads.
The last one comes from the app(Market) itself. You may try uninstalling the Market app and reinstalling it again to create new database and cache from a fresh installed.
Hi thanks!
I replaced the old market by the 3.1.3. Seems to be a bit heavier though.
I also noticed that the internet connection got a bit slower than the usual after upgrading. There is any optimisation to be done?
It also happened with me and I think it's mainly because of internet connection and pressing update multiple times just update it smoothly it will not download multiple time. It's really pain to download one update multiple time
Next time just press the update once and it will eventually updating, sometimes it take a little bit longer to start the update process so you got to be patient on this.
Internet connection normally base on your service provider(Telco) and distant between you and the transmitting tower. To optimise it, you better get the APN update direct from your service provider and stay within the coverage area..
just one thing.
Few apps internet and gps related are not working as it should, like foursquare.
How do I know if I made a full upgrade or not? Because I might want go back to 2.2.1

Play store connectivity error following root

So I rooted my tablet and everything is working fine, but soon after I'm getting errors with the Play store ("No connection" + retry button) and with signing into a Google account ("Can't establish reliable connection to server"). Otherwise, it's doing fine; social media, YouTube and browsing are all working at decent speeds and I'm posting from the tablet. Also, the wifi signal in the drop down menu appears orange, which to my understanding denotes limited access, but my PC doesn't return the same error.
I've tried deleting the cache and data of the play store, rebooting, switching aeroplane mode on and off, reconnecting after forgetting the network - nothing.
It was fine immediately after rooting with the Nexus Root Toolkit, but started playing up soon after I installed and launched App Ops X. Disabling that hasn't worked either.
I also changed the time zone up a bit earlier, but put it back to automatic.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: the indicator is still orange, but I managed to get the Play store and Google services up and running by adding another account.client.Google.com server to the host file in /etc, although downloads are painfully slower. Can anyone explain why this worked and it didn't before, because I already had one there with a different IP. Also, are there any faster domains for me to add? Thanks.

No Access to Google Search, Play Store over LTE

Hey all,
I finally made the jump to the One M8 from my iPhone a few weeks ago, and I quickly unlocked, S-OFF'd, rooted, and flashed MaximusHD. I had to switch back to my iPhone for a couple of weeks for work reasons, and yesterday decided to switch back to the One. When I booted it up, I saw that an OTA was available for MaximusHD 7.1, so I installed it and realized that I was missing LTE and stuck on HSPA. A quick phone call to AT&T resolved my issue when I realized that it was simply a provisioning problem (since the 4S I had been using is LTE-less). Now for the strange part - after being on WiFi all day at home, I come to work and try to fire up the Google search app (while connected to LTE), no dice. The app throws a "Can't reach Google at the moment." So I fire up Chrome, and try google.com - after a painstaking few seconds, I get "Timed out". I navigated to a different site (CNN), just to test connectivity and voila! - the page loads immediately. I retried google.com, and the site still times out. Also, the Play Store has no connectivity over LTE, also throwing "Connection timed out." All other apps (Instagram, Speedtest, even GMaps/G-mail) work while on LTE. If I force the phone to drop to HSPA (by choosing GSM/WCDMA only in Mobile Network settings), then magically all the forementioned apps and google.com work properly. It seems that all the Google services are "blocked" while connected to LTE. So far I've tried:
- Airplane mode on/off
- Rebooting
- Clearing defaults and wiping all the application caches (as well as the Play frameworks)
- Factory resetting/Wipe Cache
- Flashing a different ROM (VenomOne) and starting fresh
- Confirmed that APN settings are correct (other sites other than google.com work fine)
- Deauthorized my phone in my Google account settings
- Created a new Google account
None of these worked. I also tethered my MacBook to the phone, and was able to access google.com via Safari perfectly fine while the phone was sharing it's LTE connection. I installed Firefox on the phone, and strangely google.com works fine as well. It seems as though any Google services that rely on my login fail to work on LTE, but work perfectly fine over HSPA. Google searches work, the GSearch app works fine, and the Play store loads immediately. Switch back to LTE, all other apps and sites load properly, Google services fail again (now including Sync).
Sorry for the lengthy post guys, but I'm out of ideas. I'm going to (unfortunately) flash the phone back to stock and see if that works, and if it doesn't, I'll drop by the AT&T store tomorrow and see if a new device makes a difference. It doesn't quite add up, unless its a weird provisioning problem. Hopefully you guys can help or might have an idea? Thanks!
Hey man, I'm jumping on board with you on this issue. I've been battling this same exact issue for the last month or so. I've literally tried everything in the book and can't seem to figure it out. Not hijacking your thread, but I was going to create a thread here as well since I'm out of ideas. Here's my experience, hopefully we can knock something out here to fix this plague of a problem.
I've flashed multiple different versions of firmware, multiple different ROMs, cleared every kind of cache you could imagine, etc. Often I can get the issue to disappear for a short while, but it always returns.
I did restore the phone to stock using the factory RUU. That actually did work for a short period of time, but then I started receiving a message that said "Restricted Access Changed - Data Service is Blocked".
That message led me to this site: Nexus 5 Restricted Access Changed Issue - Solved
After being 100% stock, I uninstalled updates for Google Play Services. That worked for 3 days. After 3 days, I connected to wifi for the first time, after I turned wifi off - no connection to the Play Store again.
That was last night. Flashed newest firmware (2.22.401.5) and Insert Coin 4.0.9 this morning... still no good. Google Search and the Play Store time out with "No Connection" messages.
The one thing I believe differs from me to you, is that HSPA+ (GSM/WCDMA) does not work either. I believe you said that worked for you?
Certain little things seem to randomly make it work for a short period of time. Once I flashed cache/dalvik and did a fastboot erase cache - magically worked after that. Though, that only lasted for a day or two.
Think I'm going to jump on Support Chat with AT&T to see if they can provide any help, though I doubt it. I'll update here as I go along so hopefully we can get this figured out. Sorry for the lengthy response.
Same issue, also from CT
Just responding to the OP, I am having the EXACT same issue as you with my Google Services not always connecting while I am on LTE. I wonder if it's a geographic thing as I am in Southeast CT Groton to be exactly although I have also had the same issues in Niantic at work. I also have AT&T service but my device is a HTC One M8 Developer edition. I sometimes can connect to Google services over LTE but it seems to be hit or miss. Services that I have been having trouble with include gouge search accessed through chrome, google now/voice search, Play store and Wallet. I have not had any issues streaming music over Google Play music, even when my other services were not functional over LTE for some reason. I have tried all the suggested trouble shooting steps such as uninstalling Google updates, clearing google play services cache and app data, verifying my date and time setting, etc. I even unlocked and rooted just to delete the hosts.txt file as was suggested in the system/etc folder. So far nothing I have done has completely fixed my LTE issue, it was the exact same behavior on kk 4.4.3 and after I applied the kk 4.4.4 OTA update. I have not tried S-off or installing any custom ROMs. As I type this my Google services ARE working over LTE but I'm not expecting that to remain constant based on past experiences.

Did you contacted your carrier about this LTE and Google services issues? Cause I can use all Google services on LTE. Its kinda a bummer that you cant use something that you are paying for tho.

This guy has the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/lte-connection-issues-3-28-401-7-t2913168
He thought it was caused by flashing firmware. But based on your experience, it might just be a carrier issue.
