[BUG] Media Volume dependent on In call volume - HD2 Android NAND Development

I've noticed that media volume is being affected by in call volume.
Many times it happens I'm listening to music when a call comes, which being too loud (since i'm using my earphones) I reduce it by lowering the in call volume. After the call end the media volume gets reduced and it doesn't go up even if you max it out, although it can be lowered...
The remedy to fix it is make a dummy call and max out the in call volume, dis-connect and voila you're media volume is back up which can be lowered as desired...
Its not a serious bug as its temporary fix easy to apply but since most of the major android bugs on HD2 have been ironed out, so if developer has the time it would be great if they can look into it.
Also this a kernel/sound module bug, as I've seen it persist across different ROMS by different chefs. Yhough I have not tried Sense, but it present in both CM7 and MIUI roms whatever I tried so far..If some sense user can confirm, it would be helpful as these roms have different kernel...

I m currently using the ROM in my signature and i give a negative confirmation. Meaning in my HD2 and ROM i have faced no such issues. The media volume is independent of the In-Call volume.
Btw i admit once i noticed this bug when i was trying a MIUI rom.

Yes it exists. You can verify it.
1. Install Volume control
2. Play any music
3. Modify the InCall volume.

Yes even I think this might be specific to MIUI Roms.
Can anybody verify the same with AOSP roms?

So sense roms doesnt have this bug, it seems...
Well i remember having faced a similar issue when i was typhoons cm7 rom around a month or two back

I have also observed this 'bug'. My initial thought was that the DSP manager (I'm currently on CM ROM) does not restore the correct profile after hang up.

No bug on jw-miui. Tested like this: launch music, volume set to max
Did a call, adjusted in call volume to low.
Hang up, miui music start to play with its full volume (just like i set it before).
Second test was with low music volume. It works too. So I can't confirm the bug.

Jelly Bean sound at half volume after call

The issue I am seeing is when music is being played on the phone and a call comes in, afterwards the music turns back on but only at half the volume. All volume indicators are at max and system sounds come through at that level. If I close the music player and re-launch the volume returns to what the phone is set at.
To put a bit of history into this issue, I had actually installed the vicious (I think) JB image on my phone back a while before it was officially released by verizon. With that release, I saw the exact same issue. I tend to listen to recorded music a lot during the day, so with this little glitch I took the phone back to ICS.
But now with the official release on the verizon network the exact same problem is happening. Mostly I have music recorded from DAR.fm and play it through that app. I do have some music in google music but can't quite remember how the details of it resuming after a call went.
So, while I'm querying the app dev guys for the various music programs I wanted to see if anybody else has seen this type of issue.
Thanks
I'm running CM10 and I notice the same issue but for notification sounds. When the sound alerts, it dims the music volume. Once the notification is done sounding, the music volume does not return to normal.

Glad I'm not the only one seeing this.
I know issues brought up here have been noticed by the folks working on the official releases, but is there any system in place to report specific issues like this to either google dev or samsung?
There's an option in Settings > Sound I believe that sets the volume to half, it's called "Safe Headset Volume" try disabling that and see if it fixes your issue.
where exactly is this setting? I didn't see anything about headset volume anywhere in the sound settings panel.

This is only on CM10, just FYI.
ah ok. I am running the standard JB pushed out by verizon.

Sorry about that, I just know that, that was an exact feature on CM10. I don't know why it would be happening on stock unless this is a built in option to Android that is unconfigurable on stock.
Since I tried running a JB build before, and saw this exact same issue a few months before JB was even pushed out by VZ, I'm wondering if this is a bug pretty deep in JB regardless of the build. Never had the issue with ICS.
Which volume are you talking about? Speaker, headphones, or Bluetooth? I use BT audio for music in my car, and I have no problems after calls or after notification sounds (volume dims, then rises again). However I *do* have a problem where GPS is too quiet, even when music is loud.
This is music played by the Pandora app BTW.
I notice this issue when I am listening to audio through the phone speaker. Not the greatest but it's ok. I have had the phone hooked up to external speakers and it has done the same thing. I check the volume levels in settings and everything is full. Don't have any devices for playing BT audio so I can't try that one. The notification sounds and other system sounds do seem to be at the proper levels, just not the previous playing music.
I am assuming this is a bug relating to the volume transition post-call, but I'm no developer so I'm just identifying the obvious points.
The app I am using is the DAR.fm app for recorded radio shows.

[Q] Call volume issues

I know this has been an issue for a lot of people by searching the forums, but I was wondering if anyone has had any success at all in boosting the in-call volume to an audible level on the Galaxy Nexus with JB installed? I've tried using a custom kernel (Franco and Trinity), NexusLouder MOD, the build.prop settings, all to no avail. I can hardly listen to the other person within a phone call, unless its in a quiet room. One anomaly I have noticed is that the in-call volume is louder one step down from the maximum, which is a bit odd. I know its listed as a bug in the Google Code database, but how widespread is the problem? It's pretty hard to classify it as a phone when you can't hear phone calls.

i would suggest you to get a good custom rom and flash it , most of them have unlinked volumes and pretty ok . i have tried xylon and para android and others. all are good . you can have your pick

[Q][CM10]Loud, Uncontrollable volume from headphones

When using my headphones for regular audio playback, the volume is OK and can be controlled at multiple levels.
Whenever I receive or make a call, however, the volume is WAY too loud. Furthermore, I cannot control the volume using the volume rocker or the volume slider. No settings anywhere seem to have any effect on this.
I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 currently. Generally I wait for a "proper" stable release rather than the monthlies before updating.

Please report this to the Rom's Thread.
However you may try one thing. While you are in an ongoing call, press volume down button. That's the only time and place to control in-call volume. Otherwise that setting isn't available.

I'll report it there, though i've just gone to to the Monthly snapshot in hopes that its remedied. If not, nothing gained nothing lost, and i can tweak my rom till the settings are fixed, or go to a different rom or something. Maybe a stock based rom where i'll install my own launcher. (if theres a stock rom with injected features and such, that would be fantastic).
I did try this though, and the volume buttons do nothing for the in call volume (while in a call), nor does sliding the slider during a call.
EDIT: problem is still there in 10.2 M1.
best to report this in the dedicated thread. i have been using cm10 without an issue of such. but then again im not on the latest nightly.

Low earpiece audio during call, CM11

My earpiece volume is annoying low. I already went to /system/etc/tiny_hw.XML and changed the default output to 63, but its still not quite loud enough and when put past 63 I get no audio out of the earpiece at all. Anyone got a fix for this?

Not to promote any specific ROM but there are a couple of other AOSP ROMS in the regular development forum where the volume works great without the annoying low volume bug. Dirty Unicorn and Liquid Smooth. Read the user comments an the ROM change logs as well as features and you will find a ROM where the volume works as it should. The above mentioned ROMS come to mind.
Is the fix for their ROMs able to be implemented into CM11? I have 3 android phones in my house and I use the same ROM across them to figure out problems easier.

Call Volume Issue (Too high or low) Discussion

If you go to Lineage or Lineage based rom forums, you will see some requesting to have volume lowered. If you go to Omni forum, there are those who find Omni's soft volume problematic. In my case, I work in a quite environment and lowest volume on Lineage based roms is already as loud as making a public announcement.
I wish we had good volume system which provides low-low to loud-loud but we do not.
I tried modifying mixer_paths_tasha.xml values as recommended by hundreds of guides on internet. It does not make any changes. Then I came across audio_platform_info.xml file. I played with it but no changes.
Then I noticed that the problem is not just volume being high but adjusting volume not doing anything. I do not know if it is specific to ACIP 8.0 that is still in beta stage. I recall this problem was there for Lineage roms in Marshmallow and Nougat days. If it is a persistent problem, lowering various values on those files would be waste of time. And I will need to look elsewhere.
Can anyone tell me call volume adjustment has been fixed on Lineage roms?
I read people complimenting Resurrection Remix and Omni's call quality. As for OMNI, it is based on AOSP but RR is Lineage. Can anyone tell me if call volume can be adjusted on RR? If adjustable, I will be better off comparing RR audio files since it's Lineage based rom.
P.S., I even came across some users of other phone with same problem ultimately fixed the problem by attaching a tape on the speaker. Man, I wish we do not have to settle with that ugly solution.

I recommend changing the sound files on the stock rum.
For me, the most trouble-free audio files are always there. @4K2K

Thank you for the suggestion but the difference between stock rom and AICP too vast for me to compare.
I compared Omni and AICP's mixer_paths_tasha and Audio_platform_info file. Noticing hundreds of differences, I just copy pasted Omni files to AICP.
I was hoping it would break things at least. Nope. It does not make any differences. So I guess it is pointless to modify values on those files?
I went further by deleting various audio config files AICP has that Omni do not. That caused a boot loop.
I am using AICP 12.1 now and have no problem with speaker when making calls. Volume control works fine. Problem with earphones still remains though.

You mean the earpiece call not the speaker call right?
If so, I gotta take a look at AICP 12.1 files.

Sorry, my English isn't very good. I mean regular calls when you have to place your phone near to your ear. No problems with that. Using headphones for calls is still problematic though.
I am. Omni rom and the call volume is too low. The ear piece volume started out normal then slowly goes down. I tried changing the value from suggestion in omni tread but the issue is still there. The other rom call volume is fine

Thank you for the update. I am glad to hear it works on Nougat AICP. I guess the issue was fixed after so long which means same thing can happen on Oreo roms sooner or later.
I wish I had knowlege on Android system or general coding. I am looking and comparing values of these files from different roms but still clueless. At least, I have input from @darkobas
@4K2K: in RR you can improve the audio quality in CDLA (reducing the loud effect) installing Dolby Atmos: you can create a personal profile, and adjust the equalizer reducing the low frequencies. This ROM can ensure, at moment and imho, the best quality audio during calls via speakerphone.
bad callling sound issue
in resurrection remix rom i have the same problem my sound is too low for the other side when try on spaker it is worse than it thenother side i am talking with is hearing parazits i aƶ going to try stock rom and other roms. does anynone find a solition
