[Q] SIM card not reading after root - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've found quite a few seperate threads on different sites about this same problem, most with different solutions.
My Original Aim:
To install the latest build of Cyanogenmod on my R800i
Methods:
I unlocked the bootloader, that worked fine but...
Problems:
after root, the phone cannot read my sim card (this is the general problem many of us seem to be having)
also:
Wi-fi connects fine, but...
the web browser cannot connect
the market seems to just crash second after opening [seem to have gotten through this problem now, will keep updating]
Any G app constantly requests login details but still cannot connect
This basically means i can't get the clockworkmod ROM manager from the market, so can't continue with my cyanogen flashing.
[from more searching it seems clockworkmod ROM manager can't flash on the play, so trying to boot it myself using other guide]
[now using fastboost to boot up SWD recovery, and then load cyanogenmod from there. will update with results]
[couldn't flash on cyanmod, some sort of assert failure... this is not going well at all]
Theory:
It could have something to do with the newest firmware update from sony? (might be UK only)
Either way, Everywhere I search seems to have a different solution, any chance anyone here has some clear and better advice? I'd like to get Cyanogenmod running, but if not then just returning back to the default firmware would be good enough.
I'll keep working at this and update as I find solutions. Eventually update this into a thread explaining how to fix the problem.
[EDIT: another useful thing might be to figure out what the source of the problem is, so we can tag/fix those instructions that might cause this]

Check the BaseBand version if it is "unknown", if it is, u need to flash your phone again

Same thing has happened to me , after unlocking boot loader and then rooting.
I no signal , (no service) message , also baseband is unkown , I have flashed a few uk roms and no good
Keeps saying insert sim card , i have tried o2 and tmobile , just the same.
EDIT : MANGED TO FIX MY PROBLEM, FLASHED THE FIRMWARE FROM THE THREAD BELOW.

[Q] Why is my sim not recognized in cyanogenmod?

I have an Xperia Play and I decided to flash it with cyanogenmod. First version I got working was the 7.1.0.2. Everything was working fine except for my network: the phone didn't even ask me for the PIN.
After this, I tried the experimental CM9.0 RC1, yet I found the same problem: SIM card not recognized, phone didn't ask PIN, no networks found.
At this point I realized I didn't install a baseband on my phone and tried that. I started flashing it with flashtool, but then forgot to install the .zip file from CWM.
With this the phone was asking for a PIN, but soon afterwards it asked for a "SIM network unlock code". My phone is not sim locked.
After I installed the baseband -36 correctly (with the .zip file from CWM), it returned to behave like before: no PIN asked, no networks found.
Is there a fix for this? I searched for a whole afternoon for this, didn't find anything. I'll give further details if needed, thanks in advance.
By the way, if I revert the system to the stock sony ericsson ROM everything works fine. My carrier is "3 Italy".
EDIT: Installed CM9RC2 and now everything works fine except for wi-fi. Well, i suppose it is to be expected from experimemntal builds.

[Q] Permanent no service - tried multiple roms...revert to stock?

HI all,
First post, go easy on me!
I've searched the forums trying to find the answer to this problem but have been unsuccessful. I successfully flashed my Galaxy W with slimbean 3.1.0 and had been using it successfully for over a month. I put it in airport mode to save battery, as I had done many times before, but this time when I turned it off the service never came back. I haven't had service since.
I have tested the SIM in another phone and it is working fine. I have also tried flashing a different ROM (CM10 Alpha 1) with no luck. I would reflash the phone with the stock firmware if there is any chance that would help, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that via CWM. At this point I'm not exactly sure what to do. Is it possible that the this is a hardware issue?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes it´s possible it´s a hardware issue you got after a while.
First thing I would try is to flash back to stock ROM and see if this fixes your issue. (With Odin)
There is a guide about how to do that, but am sorry not to point you to it right now. Its 4am here righ now and I already am having difficulties to write correctly. (need to go to bed soon )
If this helps I would suggest to update the baseband and then to try again with CyanogenMod.
But if reflashing the stock ROM doesn´t help either, I would suggest to contact the Samsung Service Center.
By flashing back to the stock ROM make sure you are flashing the one used in your specific country, because in the first place it also inculdes the baseband used in your country and in the secound place it also inculdes the country code Samsung might look at while testing your phone.
In Germany for example most SGW´s were sold with it´s specific coutry code. But there were also a few sold with the county code for the whole EU.
So you must care about such things when flashing back to stock ROM. For fixing it the country code is not important. Only the baseband used in your region is important. But I case you need to contact the Samsung Service Center it will be important.
Hope this helps a bit. Now I really need to go to sleep.
Does your IMEI number still ok? Cause I lost my Efs folder with IMEI number some time ago, in another Galaxy fone i had.
you can check it in Settings / About fone / Status / IMEI
If you lost it, you will have no service, no matter what rom you try.
In this case, you can try to repair using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546 , not simple but saved my fone.

[Q] Error searching for network

EDIT: Fixed. I had already tried flashing updated stock roms before flashing CM9 and it didn't seem to help but I tried a few more, and the one called "R800_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf" fixed it. After that I wiped everything, installed cm9 again and now it gets a signal
original post:
I installed CM9 on my Xperia Play and now it doesn't properly detect the SIM card. It says "No service" and when searching for available networks it gives an unhelpful message "error searching for network". If I try to add the APN manually it gets ignored.
I've seen other people with this problem but every solution I've found has been things I've already done, or broken links.
I updated my baseband using Flashtool but it didn't help and in fact the phone seems more sluggish now after doing that.
The SIM works fine in another phone. These are all unlocked devices.

[Q] [HELP] Stucked in weird issue

Just got Samsung Nexus Korean maguro variant yakju with 4.1 installed and with Baseband: UGKL1 and my network is Warid Tel - Pakistan. I used my local sim in as well and it was working fine. Today I tried to use custom 4.3.1 in it and so I done these steps:
Downloaded Nexus Root Toolkit, Android SDK, Latest Nexus drivers and all pre-requisites before starting. Now I first started to unlock my Bootloader with matching requirements as the tool already do this. Then flashed cwm touch recovery and applied root. I tool backup of my stock rom via cwm and then wipe all and installed liquidsmooth 2.7 which is jb 4.3.1 and it worked like a charm. What i noticed afterwards that the rom is reading my carrier details correctly but also showing Emergency call only warning as well. I tried Edge as well and it was wokring normally but when i tried to dial a call and tried to send txt it showed me Mobile network not avaialable. Then I tried all latest radio basebands on it, tried all settings SMSC and normal troubleshoots but couldn't get complete carrier support. Then I restored my default stock rom via cmw and boom no issues like it should be. Now my question is did I missed something for it? or am I flashing wrong basebands? or somthing else? After too many hours i felt that I cannot go further from here. I am attaching my screenshots. Please if anyone can tell me or guide me I will be very thankful to him as I haven't tried my phone yet, just got it. I had HTC evo 3d and its setup of everything never got me stucked like this.
Anybody up for help kindly

Unknown Baseband after flashing rom

Okay so i have the T-Mobile Galaxy s3. It has been rooted for a while with zero problems. I got tired of the older android on it and decided to install a rom. I installed Cyanogenmod 13.0-20151208-unofficial-d2tmo running android 6.0.1. When i first got it all booted and loaded with gapps, i noticed that it recognized my sim and that i had a signal but i couldn't use any LTE or just all around data. basically i couldn't go online (in case i just didn't explain that well enough. Phone service is a mystery to me). I did some searching online and found a lot of people saying that i needed to update my baseband. i found a baseband for my model (T999) and tried to flash it in TWRM. Once i rebooted, it said "No SIM card - No service." in the upper left-hand side. i have tried flashing multiple different basebands the same way with no luck. i tried backing up my EFS folder and the restoring it because someone said to do that and that just... just no... it didn't do anything. even Odin 3 said it was a "FAIL!". So here i am with this android equivalent to an Ipod and i hate this. Everything else in this ROM works perfectly aside from this but this is a super big problem. PLEASE HELP!!!! A phone isn't a phone if you cant even send a text.
Did you update the phone's bootloader and modem to the latest version before flashing CM?
