I know that you hardcore coders and creators of these awesome works are constantly at it tweaking and improving ROM's. But are any of you guys ever just "satisfied" with a rom? Saying "yep, this is the one for me" a quick paypal tip and off you go.
I am still quite a newbie and just did my first flash a couple days ago. I believe it was vp3g. Overall pretty pleased, and by the time I add some of the apps that I like, and add some personal touches I am pretty content. Of course until I see the interface on Schap's, especially the upcoming things he's got going. That will likely be what I switch to if I do. My key desires are speed, UI, and mostly finger friendly. Thought I wanted iPhone-like but after trying things like ifonz I am not so sure. VERY nice program and look dont get me wrong. Just a bit cumbersome at times. Not to mention a program always running.
Just curious. Because if my phone had came with this rom, and its vastly improved speed I would probably have never looked into this stuff. But I am very glad I did as this stuff is awesome and I tip my hats to you all.
I understand your sentiment as some of us guys flash a ROM a week. I myself try to stick with one until another fixes some misgivings I have or has a feature that I want. I am going to try and stay with my present ROM as long as I can but you do get a bug for these things.
It's a pain in the arse really as just when I've configured things the way I want out comes a tempting new ROM, with new build and promises of improved stability and greater speed...

Cool. This is kind of my thoughts as well. It does take some time to get it to your liking. And then.....
Flashing freakes right here
Cmon, i flash rom's at least 4 times a day!
In the last month I have maybe flashed my rom thirty times at the least .
Right now sticking with v20 dhva lite as I got everything a five mb pp and thirty mb memmory.
Correction : Omnia build out, here we go again with flashing
hmm
I am about to say yes, there is, and that would be this latest ROM from the chef abusalza.
The thing is you always want to have the latest MS OS build, what ever device these clever chefs have ported. One build is guaranteed to be better than the next, and it is I feel a MS testing ground. And there are chefs that are out there now are amazing. A number has left us, and new ones are coming on board.
What a bunch of geeks, but yeah ... I am going to rest my flashing for a while now.
I get urges to flash, but mostly after testing most I go back to CRC's latest.
They just work best for me!
(hoping for a new dev build soon)
muahahahahaha NEVER!!!...jk...i usually try to look for the best performance and battery...most ROMs are the same just with the chefs preferences.my 0.02.take care

That's insane! So you do it stricktly for testing purposes? There is no way to tell if it's "the one" for you in such a time frame. Unless it's just horrible, like I said it takes time to get accustomed to it and make some changes.
I almost feel bad saying that I am going to change my starter rom (vp3G) just due to a few quirks I have found and things I have read and seen on the others that I am interested in.

i know the feeling of never being satisfied, as of now i went through atleast 15-25 roms in 8 hours because i didnt like the last one. No lie, from 12:35am to 7:00AM.. i didnt have much of a problem with it because its a learning curve to see what each rom has to offer and that i backed up all my data

U need an XDA Therapy Class...see post #9 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419201
I've decided that as the Desire has such a big fanbase and the forum is so busy, that I'd trial an Off Topic lounge.
This is the place to post all things random and not support related.
There are a few ground rules, nothing too boring, but we do need them!
The most important rule is, follow the Forum Rules!!
Keep it clean, and don't flame other users.
[*]Do Not use this thread to boost your post count so you can post in Development
Most of all, have some fun
As this is a trial if you have any issues or problems here, please PM me.

cool idea...this can be a nice place to boast how awesome our rom is
I'm currently using a modified version of Leedroid 2.4.1.
This is a Data++ version with CM7 hboot built by Ed Roid (member of Frandroid), I must admit it is very fast and reliable.
Wow i love this forum its the complete opposite to what i'm used to. Normally i would expect a thread to be derailed withing a page, here however try and go off topic here and it takes less than two posts to be back on topic.

It has probably died down a bit in the Desire forums now, but I remember a time a post would have been reported, and within 15 minutes there were about 30 replies to the problem post
I loved my Desire when I had it. I actually miss it now

Custom Rom
Heya, I just instaled my 1st custom rom . I've always been rooted but i used the stock rom. Today i got bored and tried robocik's RCMix on my Desire. Working wonderful! I'm so happy i did it
Had my desire for just over a month, tried about 5 or 6 different ROMs, sticking with CM7, usually the latest nightly build, havent s-offed, dont really see the advantage?? Running CM7 nightly 64, with a 512MB ext3 partition sd-ext, I LOVE MY DESIRE!
Nice Idea, I am swinging between Roms Almost on Daily basis and then i keep myself busy restoring everything.
I am also planning to release my own custom ROM, lets see when i will be able to do that (Still is Alpha phase)
Had my desire about a year now and running Oxygen 2.1.2
Just had a look round at the new phones available and I've got to say there's nothing really around to make me want to upgrade yet (maybe the Samsung Galaxy 2S)
Anybody bored with their desire and waiting for a new phone on the way?
I would love to help someone make a ROM but I have no idea where to start or what I need to do? Any help? Thanks

I had a strange dream last night that in the future we all lived underground, but people kept the nicer part of the world a secret from us(me), but eventually some guard-type guy led me to an old workshop to get water and I found both of my cats there - after feeding them popcorn and making sure they were safe I found some sort of board and found a massive tube system that the nicer parts in levels above used as an entertainment place - with arcades and stuff in it...
weirdness!

BANNED!! And I propose that the next person that posts anything to do with actual Desire/ROM/Dev discussion shall be whipped with a wet lettuce leaf
I, however made the mistake of telling this chick that I have been seeing on a friends basis that I am crazy about her the other day...it's actually waaaay more than friends, and she knows it, but it's complicated. We spend a lot of time together, she stays over most weekends, we usually shower together, we kiss, cuddle, go out to dinner, shopping and the whole kaboodle...we are not "sleeping together" though...she is not ready for proper committment, she tells me...or am I expecting too much??
I am 37 years old, and I feel like a love sick pimple faced child. Maybe it is I that needs whipping with the wet lettuce leaf...
I love this forum, I feel better already
And let the flaming commence
@777ace and how are things after you said that...?
I took my cat out to the car to go to the vets and then went back to lock the front door and he decided that was a good time to go to the toilet.... causing me to take him back inside - clean up and then be late for the vet (he's fine though, just getting over a bad illness-type-thing)
Lol, I have two cats also! I have been lucky in that they've not (yet) gotten really sick though...the bills for nuetering and worm treatments etc were horrendous enough! Any vets here??
As to my problem...everything is cool. I tend to over analyse the crap out of everything and probably miss the forest for the trees most of the time. Thinking over the whole situation, if she didn't feel the same way I do, she probably wouldn't do all of those things with me and make time in her life for me, so I guess I just gotta play it cool and take it real slow....
Good going, as long as things are well now!
Last nights strange dream was I was driving down a really steep hill (and it had a mcdonalds halfway down for some reason), and saw some woman pushing her car up the hill near the McDs - she said she was fine, got that far and I asked why she wasnt calling someone to get it repaired, she said her boyf coudl fix it at the top of the hill, so I stopped and locked up my car and helped her push it to the top - right near the top there was a flood of water that rushed down and pushed the car back a bit - but we carried on and got it to the top of the hill where she said she was going to see her boyf - however, he happened to open the door and be like 'OMG what are you doing here?' then you heard his wife in the background coming to see what's going on... and I just up and left her there sorting out her own mess.
what's the moral of that story?
The G1, the original Android phone released to the public, my third or fourth cell phone, has CM7 support. It was released by HTC as Pure-Android. It has CM7 and is no longer updated by T-Mobile or HTC, but CM7 still supports it, so I was wondering how they have it without any Kernel releases and we need a Kernel, even though our phone is newer. Answers please?
[QUOTE=Original Android
Because they know that they aren't getting anything to work with, and know that if they want it, that have to build it. We are still receiving updates, so we have to wait. What'd be the point of building our own stuff, just to get official a month later? Plus, I thought Cyanonen stated that the cyanogen team was no longer supporting the g1 after cm6?
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.
People are still able to Port over CM7 to the G1 whether Cyanogen and the team support it or not. Oh and btw, your statement made no sense.
Makes sense to me. If we built our own stuff now, it would be obsolete when we get newer official updates.
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.
Basically, they devs are keeping you happy by waiting. So much work goes into CM7 or MIUI that its not worth it to even try right now...no, they devs are not lazy. There just saving hours and HOURS of work that they don't have. It will be 1000 times easier to port any aosp build (CM7, MIUI) once we have gingerbread source. Right now its not worth the effort.
Lmao.... wtf?! Zander original just slapped you with a lightsaber lmaooooo!!!...Early mornin laugh! Gotta luv it!

What doesn't make sense about that? Let's say you wanted gingerbread cookies. They take an hour to make, and you need to go buy some ingredients (lets ignore for the sake of the analogy that you could just buy gingerbread cookies while you're there), and you're not sure if the recipe is any good. So, all totaled, lets say ~2 hours, and you don't know until you're done if they'll even taste good. Now, let's say it's also the case that your wife was going to be home in 2.5-3 hours, and was bringing some leftover Gingerbread cookies someone brought into work home with her. That fact would sort of render your plan rather futile and pointless, would it not? Even if everything worked perfectly, that's a lot of effort to have cookies marginally quicker than you otherwise could have, and there's still opportunity cost of everything you COULD have been doing in that time.

I'm quite certain the devs don't toggle between developing for the Epic and laying in wait to develop for the epic.
In a real world sense, we're better off that they wait until it's most efficient. They can get other thing done (both Epic wise, and Honey-do list wise), catch up on all the tv they want, etc. The average dev is probably only going to devote a finite amount of their precious little time on this planet. I'd rather wait a month or two, and get a super phone, then have everyone spin their wheels for 2 months, and then quit or be burned out just in time to actually do something.
As always, if you don't like it, the SDK is open to everyone, and Java resources are everywhere.
Massive update 7-19-2011
Ok, still going to retain the "Better Than Life-Future Echo's", however I need to give everyone a big fat update as to what the holdup is, and details as to what has been going on.
1. Yes, I can install the rom and kernel released in the other thread just like anyone else.
2. Yes, i did a quicky rom and released it, and basically fell on my face.
3. tried 8 ways to sunday to fix my apparent screw up with the members here regarding that disaster i released.
here is what happened.......
I did my rom mods, and attempted a recovery with the Sprint GB, and while "something" worked on my dev tab, I failed to do a test install on my daily driver, I was looking at a "Ghost install" (what I call them), so basically what I released.....would never work (I know this now)
I waisted alot of time, 16 hours a day trying to polish a turd, waisted time is key word.
This is the issue with Gingerbread......
No Recovery for the CDMA Gingerbread
Same Froyo Bootloaders
Half ass root on the system + unstable or even non working root methods for Gingerbread right now
Sprint Rom with now real source for VZW 3G data, no reference that is.
So, this is EXACTLY what is happeneing right now at this moment, and has been going on for the past few days......
I am building a new Gingerbread kernel and recovery from SOURCE for both CDMA tablets.
I have 23 failed kernels sitting in my trash just from this morning.
I am a new dog learning old tricks in Development for Android, so I am thinking outside the box on alot of things, which is good.
I have help, from a very very respected and ingenious dev from this site.
I am RELENTLESS on this Kernel for us/you/CDMA, working insane hours, pissing off the wife because its 3am and im in the bed with a bright ass laptop.
So, this is what I and Team Android Door (yeah, i joined/started a dev team) are doing at this moment......
We are going to release a Gingerbread kernel for both devices with a working CWM, and I myself am hoping this gets done before the weekend, it is priority #1 for me, everything else is on hold.
Thank you for not kicking me while i am/was down, i am trying very hard.
If someone can donate a sprint tab to me, it would help with me developing and testing on that tab, i dont mind making specific roms for each device, i just need that device.
anyone that might have something for me, shoot me an email [email protected]

NVM, I'm in. As in, in the mix. I'm not on verizon so I don;t know about their devices, but I'll bet they have a samsung device that runs android GB that we can work with somewhere.
I'm betting that if you can get a working Kernel and CWM for GB up and running, it will at least give us Sprint Tab owners a good starting point to see what works what's broken and where we stand.
This will be awesome once up and running... Sprint tabs do not have the love that GSM have.
Let me know if you need help.

If he's compiling CM7 from source, there won't be anything ROM wise for us to do. But we can still work on a stripped down stock rom.

Team Android Door.
Spacemoose and I, and a few others whom honestly, i have not personally talked to yet, my life is so ****ed up right now, with the arms, back, etc, its just been me and dan talking right now.
I tried an ECO2 AOSP build, and it seems samsung likes to keep alot of **** out, so it never had a chance to work, and right now i am physically working on Psirens RC3 at the moment, i am actually getting ready to pull it off the tab and flash it via heimdall on my other tab, if it works as planned, its going up today. it seems alot of bugs have been worked out this time around.
my problem is, i need a PR person to answer posts, update people/etc. Im horrible, horrible at updates, i have always been the guy that just wants to be left in a dark room, left alone to work, let me work, and ill deliver the product, always been like that, even with the Film Editing, problem is i cant get my wife to post for me, so alot of you guys are left out in the dark wondering what i am doing....
Well, this coming Friday the 22nd i am scheduled for a double arm surgery to repair what's left of both joints in both elbows, tendon damage, nerves in both wrists, and muscle damage in both hands. I do not know what recovery is looking like, how long, what i will be able to do, etc. Then, possibly within the next 30 days ill be getting my broken vertebre repaired, 2 nerve bundles moved, and all 5 discs in my back L1-L5 in lower lumbar replaced, i am vert on vert with L3-L4 right now, L1 haemorrhaged, L2 broke, L3 gone, L4 herniated, L5 torn. i assume recovery from that.....might be ****ty. So i am trying to cram out these projects, the half finished ones like Psirens(ECO2), Future Echos(2.3.4), Cassandra(ECO2 w/TouchWiz4), finalise The Android Door Website, finish uploading backups and collected Android Development stuff to the Mirror, and of course maybe organise the mirror and get my mirror thread turned into a sticky.
Im doing all of this while my hands and arms are in tremendous pain, watching my 4 and 2 year old all day, dealing with my back pain, and pissed i cant go back to work to bring more income in.
Yeah, i sound ALLL ****ed up, but im not, i do get a solid 10 hours a day on the computer, if not 16, and on the weekends I usually get close to 20. It sounds worse (well, i have never fully explained what i am going through with my arms/back for a good reason) than what it is, i do get plenty of development time believe it or not.
So, that, was it, the solid truth on why some stuff seems abandoned, why i may not reply to peoples PM's or emails, or gTalk chats. Im fairly busy trying to learn the advanced things with Android, oh, get this.....lol, I sooo knew this would happen.....
So Dan is helping me, training if you will, and i am picking this up fast right, super fast, crazy theories, ideas, ports, attemopts, just crazy stuff.
So I am nagging him for what...2 weeks on building a kernel, so we do the ECO2 kernel step by step, and it doesn't work, but a week goes by right, i mean im nagging him like my daughter nags me, cause I WANT to get a Gingerbread kernel out to the masses with EXT4 and Recovery, I know this is something the CDMA tabs NEED, and I want to do this BEFORE big red releases GB for us VZW peeps.
So finally we get phone time and im downloading even more Internet (my Android Development hard drive is 1TB) and i get ancy as I dont think I am getting to soak this information up fast enough right.....so I say "screw this i cant wait" i decide to compile a custom kernel for my Ubuntu rig i use for Dev and daily use, I compiled an Intel Core i7 only kernel, managed to up the CPU freq from 100mhz to 1000mhz, tweak it just a tiny bit more, and the damn thing worked the moment i rebooted.
So now I am really nagging, trying to read more and more on trully customising a kernel for 2.3.4, so it is coming, one of probably many, and I will release a DJ11 and ECO2 set of kernels i am sure. I loved the kernel work, and probably will turn into the kernel nut job.
So, there you have it, a real update into the life, workings, mental incapacitation of good old Jim .
So, if someone really does need to reach me, best bet is to text my tab 903-647-0096, however I am not sure how fast i can respond, especially today as i am working on Psirens RC3 on my daily driver right now.
So, for now..........Im going back to work.
Jim
Jim..
Thanks soo much for your work.. Sorry for your pain, hopefully your surgery will relieve the pain and you'll have a quick recovery. In the mean time, if there's anything you need help with I'm normally around.
Not sure if this is a touchy subject but, does anybody know what happened to baked rom? It seems as if they just fell off the face of the earth....
Again, sorry if i shouldnt go in to this, i just cant find any info on them, and their wesite/ G+ hasnt been touched in months. To bad, was a great rom....
I don't think there is anything touchy about it. TravP just took a break. I remember the gap between Baked 8 and 9 was forever, and by that time a new Android (4.2?) was released. Then someone leaked BB9 to the forums when they shouldn't have and he decided to just scrap it. I still have a test build running on my Nexus S I think lol. I swear I saw someone post a screenshot of Trav running BB11 (might have even been trav himself on twitter) not too long ago, so maybe he will jump back in to things eventually. Baked is still the favorite ROM I've had the chance to run!
Thanks for the info, didnt know about that. That sucks it had to end that way, but i understand why he did it. It was also my fav rom. I would still run it if i could. I hope he does jump back into it. It would make me a pretty happy camper

Trust me you wouldn't be the only one! On the GNex we had one of the longest threads in the forum going. Then our device maintainer got banned for something stupid and they locked the thread. (Mind you, this is probably 10 months after the last official release lol)So most of us just left XDA. My S4 isn't even rooted because I can't run AOKP or an AOKP variant. Damn I miss those days!
Ya, alot has changed in the past year or two, but it will get better
Completely OT but I figure why make a new thread. Couple questions for you. 1. Which N7 do you have? 2. Do you know of any ROMs for Deb that have a mutiwindow feature?
