[Q] Install Cyanogen 7.1 Xperia Arc [ORANGE UK] - Bootloader locked? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Great news on Cyanogen 7.1 making it's way to the Arc, the process doesn't seem quite as simple as it did back when I put Cyanogen on my HTC Hero.
Is it even possible on an Xperia Arc locked to Orange UK, has anyone had any luck?
I think I have issues around the locked bootloader. Clockword Recovery MOD doesn't list the phone, no matter what the official Cyanogen Installation instructions say and when I try to unlock the bootloader using the Sony Ericsson instructions I'm unable to progress beyond Step 10.
hxxp://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions - Push and hold the unlock button* on your phone at the same time as you connect the phone to the computer with a USB-cable. See the note in the bottom of the page for information on what button to hold while connecting your phone to a computer.
I believe I'm supposed to be seeing a blue LED at this point and that no blue LED means no joy for ever?
Thanks for any pointers!
Currently running 2.3.2
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-perf
Build 3.0.A.2.184

You're not able to unlock Operator locked handsets so you'll need to use one of the paid methods unless you have access to SETool.

Thank you so much for helping a first time poster - this was the sad conclusion I was drawing towards.
Thanks again!

Worth every penny and is the method I used, it's ridiculously simple.

Although.... if I'm using the X10 Flash Tool to flash the generic UK ROMS from the XDA site, does this mean that my bootloader is unlocked and I can put Cyanogen 7.1 on my Xperia Arc?
Thanks in advance, I'm so excited I might wee.

still waiting for the progress

No.
FlashTool has nothing to do with the bootloader.

thanks man

[Q] Help with Flashing my Xperia play R800i

Ok hey all So i been reading here on xda for some time.
And i have been reading about the development for the our play and the nice progress the devs been doing with ICS.
My phone is a R800i
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
Version: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Locked Bootloader
Not rooted
No sim lock works with all providers never been locked.
I havn't flashed so much phones in my day, some wm mobiles, and iphones and a lg gt540
So i need some help with what to do
I know the first thing is to unlock bootloader
but after that? If some one could point me to the files i need, just the specefic files just for my phone. And a step by step what to do like flash a rom first then kernel or kernel first then rom and if there is any other files i should use before i flash rom/kernel
And if some nice people could give me some hints on the best ICS rom.
I want this either this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524159
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404712
those two seems to the most stable atm. Or if anyone other have suggestions like CM9 or something like that
Cheers!
//Virtualxp
Well I do know is that you don't have to unlock bootloader to root

I have but hey would be nice if you helped out instead of commenting like that
You said it's sim unlocked, right? If you bought one that isn't carrier locked, you can unlock your bootloader using the guide on the Sony mobile site. After unlocking the bootloader, flash a cwm kernel, and all the possibilities have then been opened.
Seriously though, the guides are easy to find. Google is your friend. Just tell it to search xda specifically.

Hey yea i been reading alot and i think i know now how it all works think i'll wait for some time. People seem to have alot problems with battery drain =/ Seems it can be fixed through Setcpu. And how about the overlock? i did read that some kernel have the phone overclocked to 2.0 ghz. Does it shorten the life of the phone? Not the battery life but the phone's life?
//Virtualxp
Right I have been doing the same read all the Info available and been on the Sony site check to see if I can unlock the boatloader but that's were I have come unstuck as it's saying that I can't unlock my boot loader. Some help guys would be great the ics update is taking ages and want to play about with my phone.

Is yours carrier locked? If so, you need to unlock the bootloader with something like omnius or setool.
@virtualxp - Overclocking anything too high will always shorten it's life. Going to 1.4-1.5 ghz shouldn't make a difference, but 2ghz is very high.
For battery drain issues, there are solutions. A lot of people noticed the battery getting worse after the 2.3.4 update, so either they're sticking with older firmware, or mixing builds and kernels.
My phone for example has the 2.3.4 (.42) firmware with a stock kernel from 2.3.3, and a baseband belonging to a separate build altogether. And I managed to combine those without an unlocked bootloader.. Mind you, it was a pain in the ass doing it without getting stuck with boot loop. But this way, I have less battery issues, and I can still use the themes and mods made for the .42 build.

In flashtool, there's an option to exclude the kernel and another for baseband. I flashed one firmware, then flashed another while excluding kernel, and then again while excluding the kernel and baseband, using three different ftf files.
For applying themes and mods without unlocking the bootloader, I used the T.E.A.M. locked bootloader recovery installer, and flashed them with the update.zip files through that recovery. You can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840

[Q] sony noob. feel stupid...

ok guys i just picked up a play for att. sucks cause i have tmobile and wont get the 3/4g data. im almost always in wifi spots anyway so no big deal.
anyway i have already called att and got the phone sim unlocked. now if i think i understand this correctly this should be the order to follow. if you guys can confirm and provide latest links i would appreciate greatly.
1. sim unlock (done)
2. unlock bootloader (not yet)
3. root (not yet)
4. load rom (not yet)
correct??? did i miss anything? any preferred method on any of these? please advise.
thanks!!!
First of all, if you bought a xperia PLAY, you should probably post in the xperia PLAY forums.
Second of all, questions go in the Q & A forum.
To answer your question, that's pretty much the right order.

That repair button didn't work?
For img flash you can use flashtool.
You don't need root or anything to use flashtool on your phone.
Just pick correct .ftf for your phone and flash it to the phone.
Do normal firmwares work on at&t's 4G version?
Maybe that's the problem

If you were rooted before you don't need to re-root unless you purposely unrooted it. IF you aren't rooted anymore superoneclick or the zergrush(however it's spelled) is the easiest. I'm 99% sure you don't have an unlocked bootloader though, so you have very few options. I'd say re-root if you need to and unlock your bootloader so you can flash flash and flash custom roms like crazy

You need to pay Setool credits in order to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to lose the sin lock as well, so you could have killed two birds with the same stone.

ya i just found the website. seems like thats the one everyone is sent to on this site.
im wondering now that im rooted if i can clean this stock rom up enough to use on a daily basis. i mean im using tmobile on the device so sharing internet would only be edge lol. i guess the only thing i really want ics for is that fact that its ics.
open the dial pad and use this code*#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration".
If it says unlock bootloader = no, then you have to use the paid service, if yes, then you can do it for free yourself.

Sony now has the ability to give out unlock codes for the Play, if my memory serves. You may want to try it. It will break any warranty you have, so be aware of that.

If you didnt unlock your bootloader before installing a custom rom. Idk how else to help you. You might have to send off your xperia play to Sony.

Yes use his flashtool. But the real question can you use it if your bootloader is locked.
works on both
If a boot loader is locked it means its intact hense the word locked. So the phone boots so all you have to do is..
Download your stock ftf file for you phone.
Hold the back button when you connect your phone and flash your firmware back. Light should turn green.
If it don't hold the power button while you connect it Sonay used this method to put it in the first time.i

Hi
I was hoping you could help me. I rooted my play and was following a youtube video as descibed. I couldn't attach the link because I am a new member. It was the new ics 4.0.4 from the android doctor - 100% bug free gaming rom. I had difficulty in flash tools when i needed to go into fastboot mode to install the Lupus kernel. So I installed the cwm mode from the internet and tried to install the ics from its recovery mode. Now I just get the sony logo, then the screen goes black. It is still on. I have reinstalled flashtools and have seen some stock roms on this site to download. The problem I have is when I select the rom to flash, whilst it recognises that my phone is in flash mode, I get a error flash cancelled. I have tried 3 different stock roms. I am in the process of downloading Emma - a flashtool from Sony. Hopefully my phone is not screwed. It was on 2.3.4. One week old unlocked rx800i. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks..
Tommy

You guys remember about 2011 June, a problem came up with unlocked bootloader and OTA update. the first fix that came out broke the radio rom or something so your phone won't accept any sim but will boot and be like a psp or media player. well. that happened to me. and 2 years down the line, i'm still with my play hoping someone could come up with a solution for that.
boots up fine. plays games and audio video no probs but still can't accept any sim in it.
Specs are as follows
model R800i
android version 2.3.4
baseband number 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-perf

Z5 premium stock upgrade

Hello guys,
New to this however I've done some things that I need explaining if they are able to :
I've flashed a stock rom back on the device (ftf file) using flash tool and now I've nicely got rid of some carrier stuff.
I didn't need to root / unlock boot loader, I can't anyway since its locked forever apparently, thanks to EE UK - why is this as I thought you need to unlock a device before you could flash it?
For those who are new to this I can provide links / limited assistance as I'm trying to process what I've done so far, but the reason for this post is if anyone has the Z5 premium nougat FTF stock that would be great!

You don't need root nor an unlocked bootloader to use flashtool and flash stock firmwares...to root though you need to unlock as you need to install a custom rootable kernel, but indeed not possible in your case as your carrier asked to lock your bootloader....
And Nougat is not officially out yet on the Z5p...so that is that!
Thank you so much!!!
since i bought this phone everyone told me i must unlock bootloader to flash new stock rom !!
even though i never unlocked it in my z1 compact (r.i.p)!!

Not a necessity, but those roms make changes to system which can't be done without a custom kernel, so you'll have to unlock your bootloader...(which is not possible in your case)

can't start up Sony Xperia S

Hey guys,
I can't start up my Sony Xperia S. It just stucks at the SONY logo screen.
I've downloaded Xperia Companion and tried Software Repair, but it says cannot be repaired as the Bootloader is unlocked. Now I'm trying to lock the bootloader but I don't know how.
I'd like to reset my phone to its original form, i.e. bootloader locked and unrooted. Any ideas?
Btw, I'm using a Mac.

I followed the instructions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422053
Flash the official jellybean.
It has some progress but I still cannot start up my phone.
When I start it up, the Sony logo appears, followed by the Xperia logo and the colourful light stream. Then it repeats itself, SONY, Xperia, light stream........ etc.
It's better than just the SONY logo I had before.
What should I do next?
Give it some more time on that state.. It should boot OK.. If not then flash again.

I flash it again, and still it can't start up.
I gave it 30 minutes, and it's still in the loop, Sony - Xperia - lights.
what should I do?
I've also tried to repair using the Xperia Companion but it says, bootloader is unlocked, so NO.
how to relock the bootloader then?
It's really strange why this happend to you... Are you flashing the correct ftf?try a custom rom ad see what's happening
i believe that the latest flash tool doesnt work with xperia s anymore so look for an older version
Use emma..
