[Q] Alarm autosets itself to every event in Exchange calender - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So when I add an event to my Exchange calender from my computer, it puts it on my phone and automatically adds an alarm to the event. I never put the alarm in the event settings in Outlook, alarm is set to "none"...the phone literally adds an alarm to every single event all by itself. My old Evo never added the alarms automatically...anyone having the same problem?

Same here. What's really annoying is that I can't remove alarms on events others have scheduled.
I haven't tried it but swapping the calendar app for the AOSP version *might* work. You probably lose the widgets.

where do you get the AOSP calendar from?

I pulled this from the Cyanogen source.
You'll need root and some way to modify the file system, adb or root explorer work well.
Go to /system/app and rename TouchWizCalendar.apk to TouchWizCalendar.apk.bak and copy the attached calendar.apk to the same location.
Reboot.
Only bug I've found (in the 10 minutes I've been running it) is that I have a large O in the top left of calendar screen but otherwise it looks like the reminders are gone.

reminder alarm no longer works

If I set an alarm in calander it doesn't work.
If I set a reminder in tasks it does.
Any ideas?
All the settings are as they should be in the notifications tab.
It was working up until 2 weeks ago... and mysteriously does work if you set the reminder in outlook on the desktop. But if you use the handset it doesn't work.
Search for NOTIFY Queue or Notification Queue on this board.
Should fix that problem

Calender sync problem?

Hi,
Just a quick question really about the calender app. It seems to not want to automatically sync up with my online google calender? It does it the other way round so when I add an event to my phone and I go open the calender online the event is there. But if I add an event on the online calender I have to manually go into the calender and sync it, anyway to get it to do it automatically?
Thanks.
mine randomly forgets to show me any google calendar entries at all. It worked yesterday after clearing the calendar app data, now it's gone.
My wife's SGS2 seems to be plagued with this problem, totally stock build, keeps forgetting all her google calendar entries and I have to clear the calendar data and manually re-sync.
Doesn't happen on my SGS2 running a Cognition 2.3.4 build though.

[Q] Stock Calendar: Why Won't Contact B-days & Google U.S. Holidays Notify?

I have my Google Calendar synced with my Galaxy S3. However, I don't get notifications for U.S. Holidays. Also, I found that alerts from my previous phone were carried over, but they were manual entries, duplicating what the Calender already marked. So, I deleted all of that nonsense. Alas, I don't get those notifications, even though they are a part of the calender. My Settings are setup for Status bar notification, which I assume would effect all entries on the Calender, except maybe the manual, customized entries.
I do not like having a Calender widget on any of my screens, so I'm not using that as a reference. Besides, I want to eliminate as many redundancies as possible. I much prefer to have it running in the background, notifying me of events when needed. But again, it doesn't seem to do that.
How do I get this working? Some entries have Alarm clock symbols and options. However, U.S. Holidays and Contact Birthdays have neither. I can't even set up Reminders and notifications on Chrome for desktop, if that even matters in this context.
Jelly Bean 4.1.1.
Thank you for your time.
You have to make sure there is a "reminder" setup for them. If you imported them from somewhere, most of the do NOT setup a reminder automagically.

LG G4- How To Show Birthday Reminders?

Smart Notice
I'm trying to figure out how to get it to show me Birthday reminders (I have a Google calendar dedicated to birthdays, titled "Birthdays" just to make it obvious to the phone.). The option is ticked under settings, but nothing from the phone.
What am I doing wrong?
In Google Calendar, go to Menu>Settings>Birthdays (you will see a tab marked "Birthdays" a couple of lines above settings, but that just toggles birthdays on/off). There you will be able to choose which accounts and behaviors you want to use.
However, that just shows a notification the day of that person's birthday. I have not found a setting to show you a reminder say a week in advance without setting up a specific event.

Right. And my Birthday's calendar is toggled in, and I created the birthdays in 3 formats:
1. My 'default' Gmail calendar - created an event titled "Fake's Birthday"
2. 'Birthdays' calendar - created an event called "Fake"
3. 'Birthdays' calendar - created an event called "Fake's Birthday".
All 3 are all-day events.
All 3 lead to the same result: The phone won't even read the name of the 'person', and just shows that it's a friend's birthday.

My girlfriend has a G4 as well, and hers will automatically notify her 6 days in advance that it's someone's birthday (with the correct name/ date/ time) and that you set time aside for celebrations. I tried her calendar settings too, and can't seem to figure it out.
We may have been looking at this from the wrong direction. If you go to Google Calendar settings on your computer, instead of your phone, there are more options available. One is to set a notification "X" number of days before an all-day event. I don't know if your girlfriend is doing it that way, but it would be a way to accomplish what you want.

I don't think it's that. I've created multiple events in different formats under different calendars, and the only one that seems to trigger the Smart Notice is if it's under the "xxx's birthday" format. Also, the event must be there 7 days prior (and Google Cal sync that far back) for SN to read it, irrespective of notifications under Google Calendar on the computer.
So anyway, I tried that - and here's what I got today.
Notice how SN reads that it's a birthday from a week before in Calendar, but still doesn't read the name properly again. (slightly different problem!)

So having a calendar dedicated to Birthdays is useless unless the format of the event is essentially "xxxx's birthday." Wonder if it works for Anniversaries as well.

Calendar widgets can't get updates from Google

Hi,
I'm noticing a very frustrating behaviour on my op5t (last stable rom mounted). Third party calendar widgets don't get updates from Google Calendar events edits/deletions. I try to explain better:
I've put a widget with the app Your Calendar. Tomorrow I have a meeting from 12:00 to 13:30. Relevant event is created and properly displayed in the widget. Now I have to change the date (next week). I make the edit in Google Calendar (because when I tap the event GCal pops up) and save it. The widget still shows the meeting for tomorrow, even if is postponed. I've refreshed, switched off/on everything, nothing changed. If I add the official Google Calendar Widget, of course the date of the event is correct..!
This happens even if I delete the event: it's always showed but if I click on it I get "event doesn't exist" message.
The same problem is for all the third party calendars app and I never figured this issue before.
Thanks for your hints
