i was just thinking...(other than updates) our devolpment section has been kinda quiet...and with the ics source released...that could lead to many things....plus bubby just got his phone. all these are signs that good things are on the horizon...really guys, i think we are about to see some REALLY good stuff,REALLY soon. i mean i dont have any inside info but im looking at team kang....they have been lying low...i have a hunch they have some treats for us like somethin really big...

you know that's what im thinking... but its like when exactly will we get this port. i think devs arnt gonna actively talk about how far they have progressed in the port. because they dont want to get raped about eta's and stuff.

I think superhuge things are around the bend for sure but...There's some pretty big things going on w/ melvin's beast mod rom, & mr x's synergy as well as team kang w/ juggernaut & jugs. These guys are on it no doubt, making sh*t happen. Just want to send some love in that direction.

their actually the guys that im expecting to see major things from. dont get me wrong in very thankful of their already made works but i think their about to blow us away VERY soon.
Dev section quiet? How many roms do you really need? All we are missing at the moment is aosp like cm7/cm9. I came from evo 4g which has roms out the butt and really you only needed a recent sense version and cm7. Every other rom was just clutter and clones.
We just need a TW rom, cm7 aosp rom, and in the somewhat near future cm9. Everything else would just be a clone of some sort or themed. I'm just fine with Juggernaut until aosp comes out honestly. It does exactly what I need it for
I see where you're coming from, for me though with these devs it's kind of like music or art, we don't really need 46 varieties, necessarily, but it's cool to appreciate all the creative stuff people come up with...plus, I think variety & competitveness, to some degree, speeds the progress of evolution in terms of the software sophistication etc.

Thanks for all the input last week guys. My new phone will be arriving tomorrow night! I plan on rooting immediately, what method is the best? Automated? Have there been any Samsung updates that break this method?
As far as modems goes, which one should I flash for the least amount of LoS issues? I've been hearing about two lately.
I plan on flashing cm7, dual booting if that is ready yet (I need gps sometimes). I understand there is a lot if drama recently but I just love cm and hope that he's got dual booting finished.
Lastly, what are these Odin counts that I have read about? Do they keep track of flashes for screwing you out of your warranty should something go wrong? Is there a way to reverse this?
What other roms would you recommend? I understand ics is a ways out.... That will be disappointing because I am rocking a very solid build on my Evo Shift....

Use sfhub's autoroot for quick and easy rooting. The EK02 OTA update and the EL13 leak have both helped people a lot with LOS issue. Many/most of the custom ROMs are now based off of EL13. All of the custom ROMs are pretty much fine tuned now with most of the good mods. The only thing you may need to add is 4g Hotspots hack

Oh wow that is good to hear! I used his hero rom back in the day... Also believe he was the first to get Gingerbread running. Had that running for a couple weeks until I "upgraded" to my Shift and was stuck with freakin sense and no permanent root for a few months...
Now that I have ics on my Shift I'll be temporarily stuck on gingerbread... This is truly great news! Darchstar is the man!

Try it stock for a few days just so you can get a feel for it.
This way if you Root it and something doesnt work you will at least know it worked on Stock.
GPS, WiFi, Los are examples.
I am on a stock ROM and my device is working great. No issues.
I got mine a few days before Christmas, and I am loving it. I am coming from the original HTC Evo 4G that I had since it came out. I ran CM on that for nearly the entire time I had that, so I was a little sad to see the E4GT did not have CM support. That being said, I am actually glad it did not have CM support because I have had to learn more about other ROMs, kernels, etc than I had to with CM.
I rooted right out of the box using the auto root method (stickied in the development thread).
I flashed the EL13 modem next and have had no issues.
I am now running Strongsteve's Odexed Blue ROM with the Rogue Desperado kernel v1.3.0.
I would post links, but I am not allowed to yet since my post count is so low.
To me, the phone is a lot snappier than my Evo 4G, and I have been generally pleased with it so far.

Welcome to the E4GT family! Just a couple things to know 1) Stay away from ROM Manager 2) Stay away from CWM Touch or any temp recoveries 3) Be very careful when using an ICS recovery (for now atleast til all the kinks are fixed) such as Rogue Repacks. Have fun!

Rom manager great for flash if used to boot into cwm recovery when using a steady repacked kernel. Never wipe data or reset in recovery when using an ics recovery. Use calks zip to wipe. Partitions changed in ICS and you will brick your phone

I saw there was a someone developing it for our device some months back but it seems to be dead now & is not fully functional. Maybe I'm crazy but I would still love to use CM7 in the midst of all this ICS/Jelly Bean craziness I loved it on my DX

Honestly if wimax was working I'd gladly take the jump onboard cm7 for awhile. Never got to experience cm7 on this phone. Not to mention this phone was built to run gingerbread!

I wonder why they waited all the way until ICS was released to open source HC.
I had Cm7 running for a couple days, can you say butter! It was so nice to have a ROM like that. And the themes was a bonus. It only needs a little more work in my opinion.

CM7 brings back bad memories for this community. People keep asking about it like twice a week too.
Bubby and that who what when where why. Guy apparently ripped people off and that was about the end of CM7 on the E4GT. CM9 took focus and CM10 is dividing it a little now.

I believe the source is still there. Not sure how hard it would be but with GB source being available for this phone if someone wanted they could compile it. I'm sure it would get some love. There is always people out there that like to run older builds for fun. Hell I saw cupcake being built for one phone. Can't remember which but I thought it would be pretty cool to try it.

I wish for 3 things this year...an as official as can be CM9 beta 2, CM10 beta 3, & a CM10.1 alpha all compiled by the fingers of mr. 41g himself.
There's just something about his releases that make his roms so much better, I can't explain, I'm not sure what it is but anytime I flash one of his builds my phone just screams for days.
I'd just like some super-duper kick ass stable roms before my break that I can enjoy at home with the kids

I don't know about you, and but I feel Christmas all year with our devs. He isn't even the one that's doing the releasing anymore. They work on what they want and making a "Christmas wish" for them just seems a little ignorant. I would rather them spend the holidays doing something else.

The E4GT is in serious need of offical rom's. Yes sure, there are plenty of beta builds, and pre builds, but unless you want to be on a clunky stock rom, you will not have an offical release.
Yes, we have great Dev's here on XDA. I know they are all hard at work trying to make offical/stable roms. For now we can only install the pre builds and help them iron out any bugs inside the rom. The more we do that, the faster a release will be offical.
BTW....FK23 is a nice build, but it is not the greatness that some seem to hype it as. It is still just another clunky stock rom, with some really nice/cool FEATURES.

I don't think so, because ICS source dropped a long time ago and CM9 still on beta. Same will happen with CM10 and CM10.1
But what the hell who knows what could happen?

Last time I jumped on IRC chris was saying CM9 was about finished and ready to be official. 4G speeds was what he has been trying to fix. I think he has also been working on OTG.
