I'm looking for some guide to use MUIU perfectly on my Desire. (PVT4, S-OFF, Root)
Actually I am using MIUI 1.8.19 (some german translation) which is not OTA update-able.
I'd like to use some OTA update-able MIUI next time, say the english from here.
Radio is: 5.11.05.27 --> i have to update it via fastboot? Is therefore any guide?
Next is A2SD+ -->? Any guide therefore? I only find post from people who have problems with it, but no real guide?
RIL? Do I need a RIL to flash or is there the best with the MIUI Rom?
Thank you for you help!
You don't need to touch radio.
Miui xj has dark tremor a2sd+ built in. This has a command line interface. You can Google the commands or look for them in my root memory faq in my signature.
All Roms include a RIL. No need to change

Why shouldn't I touch radio? Don't I get some benefits like better signal or better battery?
Is the normal miuiandroid MIUI not A2SD+ compatible?
It's just not necessary. Changing it may be to your benefit. It may also be to your detriment. Any Froyo radio is fine.
If you're not having signal issues then there's little point changing it.
As miui versions, its generally accepted here to go for miui xj
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
this might be off-topic ... if i have signal issue does this mean i have to touch the radio?
signal issue as in I always get the "Emergency call only" aka SOS
or is there a fix for this?
thanks in advance
That could be network related. What do they say?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
network related?
so there's no fix for this?
Have you spoken to them? Have you tried the sim in another phone?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
th sim is ok
I even try flashing cm7 and it works just fine
the problem is when i'm with MIUI
Searched MIUI-Thread for this problem?

I really want to root my deisre, but I dont know where to start.
My system information on desire is
Android version 2.2
Baseband 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gd966f2c0
Build 2.14.207.1 CL233777
All I want to do is be able to install apps2SD, I read somewhere with app2sd+ it lets you fool the phone in thinking you have more internal memory is this true?
I am a complete NooB at this so I just dont want to jump right in, I would like to somehow backup my stock ios so if anythink does go wrong and can reinstall back to default. All help welcome
shanks
look at the stickies, theres ghuides for everything!

Thanks again great support on this site ha

You can indeed but if you read the guides carefully and be thorough you can't really go wrong
Thanks I'll have ago on Saturday off work then, if I do all this and 2.3 comes out can I still update or have I got to install a 2.3 Rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
A 2.3 official update to a branded desire is not going to come soon, anyhow you'll be rooted soon and a custom rom version of 2.3 will be released months before the official, so you might as well just stick with a custom 2.3 ROM.
But if you decide you want the official 2.3, then you apply the RUU, and then the update.
Ok thanks witch Rom is the best out there for app2SD?

EXT3 is enough for A2SD+
Am going to try leedroid that seems the best out there from what I read

What would you say is better?

It's not really fair on the dev's to state a 'best' rom, i would suggest you try a few different roms out as it will be down to your own personal preference. The most popular ones are listed on the first page of the Android Development section of the forum. Have fun flashing
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
That's about as good a reply as you'll get
Yes your probably right, I'll try leedroid out first. If it dose what it say I don't think ill try anymore. Just want 1gb of internal memory lol

Hello everyone.
Well, I love Cyanogenmod, and a few weeks ago, I bought ROM Manager Premium, and decided to try out the nightly builds. I'm already up to Nightly 105 I think. They're not as unstable as I thought they would be.
I searched the CM7 Nightly thread for HTC Vision, and I found out a lot of people are having issues downgrading, mostly when they try to flash a ROM that's on 2.2 like Virtuous. Most of them are saying that the recovery says "Installation Aborted (bad)" or something?
Well, how can I downgrade from 2.3.4 without incurring any of these issues?
I'm just asking this in case I need to downgrade for whatever reason.
Changing to a froyo Rom from a gingerbread Rom is no longer an issue as long as you are using the latest recovery.

Really?
Then why is it that some people are reporting issues about these things?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
To be honest I can't see why you would want to go back to 2.2 anyway. We have loads of good gingerbread roms, virtuous included. If you haven't all ready try virtuous unity, It's very stable for a first release.

From what I remember reading in the changelog of RM, that problem was fixed; remember though, it is recommended to do a full wipe when jumping between versions like that.

Which rom do you currently use ? the stock one ?
If so, Sense consumes a bit more battery than AOSP roms.
I used to have Cyanogenmod 7.2 with LordModUE 8.9b7 kernel. And it is very very good.
That's for GB roms.
Both JellyTime and IceColdSandwhich roms are good too (but still in beta).
But Wifi is far from being cool with a battery ... Wifi is energy-greedy!!

If you wand the stock HTC look a recommend android revolution
If you wand better performances and battery life use AOSP(android open source project) or Cyanogenmod of AOKP(android open kang project)
Ice cold sand witch have verry good battery life (only bug is camcorder for wat I know)
Which one do u recommend? Aosp or aokp?

Cyanogenmod 7.2 is rock stable !
Most of the GB rom are very stable too, and almost bug free.
You have to try each rom, Sense feeling ? Aosp one ?
I used SmartDroid for a long time and really enjoyed it.
Newer roms, 4.0 or 4.1 based are still buggy and lack some features but are already very fast and gives you the most recent android experience.
It's up to you to find the one that fits your needs.
One more point, updating your Radio can be good for your battery too.
I personnaly use 26.14.04.28_M without any issue. (but I may update it now, as I've just flashed Jelly time )
I think i'll go for the cyanogen 7.0, does it give a better battery life?
And btw what is "kernal" and which one should i use and how?

Go for 7.2 instead of 7.0
7.2 is the stable one for Desire HD: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=ace
A kernel is the core of the operating system. To extremely sum up, it deals with your hardware and your programs.
Installing a new one can give you some optimizations, better response, better battery etc.
I personally used the LordModUE kernels. Here is a direct link for the lastest version: http://blackice.omca.co.uk/download...ger-kernels/lordmodUEv8.9-CFS-b7-2WCR-TUN.zip
But be aware that to flash a kernel, you need to first boot with the kernel of the rom (here the CM one), then flash the new one.

First of all, and prior to flashing any rom, you need to perform a nandroid backup.
This is a backup of your current ROM, making an image of each partition, to be able to restore it later, in case of a crash or anything else.
Once you've rooted your phone, a recovery should be installed.
To perform a nandroid backup, you reboot into recovery and choose "backup".
Or, you can install Rom Manager from the market, and choose the same option.
Once this is done, and only after this, you're good to flash any rom you want !
Another method exits to reflash the stock rom, using RUU.
I won't explain this as you can find your answer on this forum.
EDIT: don't forget to check MD5 or SHA1 sum to check the ROM/kernel integrity you download.
I use camera a lot is there any jelly bean custom mod with a working camera cause I am now bored to look at the dame gingerbread is since past 1 yr almost....want some change....
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using xda app-developers app
As far as I know, Jelly Time has a working stock camera app.
Actually, video recording in 720p is the only issue. Then, yes, I can take pictures with the stock app on Jelly Time ROM (currently beta 11).
If you want to record a video, you'll have either to change the resolution to 480p or use another app from the market (Videocam Illusion I believe, didn't test it though).
More information here.
The others JB based ROMs are currently too immature for now, and are not as stable as JellyTime.
Also, please be warn that you need to read the opening post (OP) carefully, the moderators are getting annoyed with all the same questions, which answers can be found in the OP.

Advance Ace Hack Kit - a tool developed by former xda member attn1 used to root, SIM Unlock & ENG S-OFF (ENG S-OFF allows you to flash custom ROM's without security checks e.g. md5 checks, bypassing restrictions placed by HTC on our device). He removed the link to it from the forums as he left xda due to personal reasons. Search attn1 ace hack kit on google to find it, as he hosts it on his website now

Yes your contacts, data and all personal data will be wiped upon flashing a new ROM, as flashing a ROM almost always requires you to wipe the data partitions. I reccomend you backup all of your data to avoid it. If your android and Sense version is android 2.3.5 and Sense version 3.0 then then you will have to downgrade your software version then attempt root

I think you won't find Desire on MIUI US. Try with MIUI GB if you need a good english based release:
http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/archived-miui-versions-desire-gb.16551/
And, of course, cm7r2 compatible. I used it with a2sdx script.
There is US version for desire but it is in legacy device section.

as for the original question, does searching the relevant thread or google find the answer?
or better yet, solve it by logic: open the rom.zip with a file manager, check the system size, then pick your hboot with a (slightly) bigger system. method should work with any rom
Hi, I flashed unofficial CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies / Releases [SR1.1] (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093845). Everything is great, but there is a GPS issue on my phone. There is totally no GPS signal. I tried many gps fix patches, such as inspiremod+gps fix, agps.patch.google.build.nossl.v3.1 and some gps fix apps, but none works.
My phone is S-ON, and HBOOT-2.00.0029. Radio-26-.14.04.28_M.
I tried to S-OFF it, but failed. And I looked ways to flash radio with S-ON, but it also didn't work.
Please give me some advice. Thank you.
I posted the question here because I, as a new member, was not permitted to reply to the thread I mentioned above.

And when you suffered no WiFi, probably you need to flash boot.img for the new ROM. It works on my phone.

Yes, on DHD you have allways to flash boot.img manually, it doesn't work with recovery install alone.
Finally, I fixed the GPS issue by updating the radio.
The first step is to S-OFF it. Here is what I used to do it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2367322
The second step is to update radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...81&postcount=2
After that, I used TopNTP, which is available from Google Play, to configure the GPS.
Now the GPS can fix my location in 10 seconds.
