Can anyone suggest application that will allow me to see network traffic on my phone?
I’m currently using 3G Watchdog to see what is using my data plan.
What I like to know is why for example Dialer used almost 1 Meg. of data, where was it getting data to/from.
User the one that se supplies... Just search the market for Sony Ericsson. It's called data control I believe.

@wallytax,
It's called Data monitor. But I don't think that's what JarekG is looking for. He's already got 3G Watchdog to monitor his usage.
@JarekG,
I'm sorry mate. Not sure if there's a program which tells you what you wanted.

Some tim ago I used an application named "Shark for Root", which allowed me to captures traffic and save it to a file, just the same way Wireshark does on my PC. It's free ,available on the Android Market. There are two editions, you may choose depending on your rom:
https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.shark
https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.sharknative

I like this, it's not exactly what I was looking for but I can have some fun with it.
I still don't know what application made the request but I can see something is updating my GPS info (even though my GPS is not on )
I also found a thread in here about that application (but no development for at least a year ) which sucks.

Hey guys, thought you might all find this sueful as I have and I find the pplication to run very well.
http://wavesecure.com
http://m.wavesecure.com - Anyone brosing on their phone can get it straight.
Or alternatively check the Market for it ...
I'm guessing it has to be installed on the phone before March 31 to get the free for lifetime offer, so for those of us still waiting for our Desires it won't be free.
However, I am unsure how much use this app has, since a hard reset is always an option. After that, the phone can be sold (or used) "as new" by the perp. Granted, your personal data is safe in this case, but to make the phone unuseable, you'll have to get the IMEI banned with the network.
Hardreset seems to be the only way to remove it but then again how many people get a phone and hardreset it before it even boots?
If you're quick enough and the person is slow enough you may be able to get the location of the phone.
As it's free I thought it might help even a little in such situations ...
The end date is a major shame . The good think is though it works on other devices, may be possible to ask them to transfer from one device to another.
A knowledgeable thief would probably do a hard reset, but at least your personal data (that is not on the memory card, that is) is safe that way.
I've sent them an email asking about the end date and whether it has to be installed on the phone before that date to be valid. I'll report back when/if I get an answer.

According to the FAQs on their website -
"On Symbian and Windows Mobile phones, you will be prompted to put in your PIN before you can uninstall the application. On Android and BlackBerry phones, WaveSecure can be uninstalled without a PIN."

There is an app on the Market to combat this, if you uninstall either it will lock and you need to put your pin in ...
Hey guys,
I figured out how I can get WaveSecure for free before the end date and without having the Desire yet. Basically I have a dual boot with Android on my Diamond 2 and I installed WaveSecure on that from the Android market and registered my phone and SIM with it. When you go on the WaveSecure website, login to your account then go settings and there is a disconnect option. From there you can disconnect the current phone from the account and connect a new one. So when I buy a SIM free desire I will put my current SIM in it and change the device from the website.
Hope this helps some of you.
That's REALLY impressive. Nice find!
I downloaded the .apk using a Spoofed User Agent on Firefox to make the Wavesecure website believe I was browsing using the Android Browser.
I assume I would have to install this on an Android device to qualify me for the free subscription?

Yes ...
... Is it OS exclusive ... you need to install the application ...
Excellent, thanks!!
I searched the forums but couldn't find any information, so i'm asking, is there such an application that monitors the connection you are using and displays info as to what application used what amount of data?
Pretty much something like spb wireless monitor for win.mo . I am using netcounter at the moment but it does not give detailed information about the amount of data used per application.
Thank you.
I used to use 3G Watchdog. Until I got unlimited data plan
It is a nice app (with widgets). It lets you define your monthly quota, monitor it, set some reminders when you reach xx % of your quota.
I'm not sure it can monitor the use of particular apps though. But for overall monitoring it's the best I've found.
I used that also but I was looking for an application that can show usage per application, just for my personal knowledge.

Maybe you could post a require in the development section
After seeing many people complain about the GPS signal on the Galaxy s and variations. I decided to look into system files and it looks like some other people have as well forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731462.
So this program lets you easily change the gps config file so that instead of looking to acquire satellite's in north America. It can look for ones in UK and Europe, so to improve the time it takes to locate the Satellite's as mentioned in the post above most users have posted improved results but a few have not noticed a difference. I will be uploading a video soon comparing different settings.
But for now here is the program > www.multiupload.com/O2F6ZXPTWZ
Instructions:
For now you have to copy the gps.conf file to the internal or external sd card or your computer itself, in the future i will make it so that this can be copied over automatically via adb.
SO...
1. Locate the file system/etc\ gps.conf
2. Copy over to you computer Or copy to Sd card (either will do) then mount to computer.
3. Install the Program and run.
4. Locate the file.
5. Choose backup (Optional)
6. Choose either Uk or Europe.
7. Replace original gps.conf on the mobile phone.
8. Reboot and post your results here
NOTE: if you cant copy / change the system you need to mount in re-writeable this new app that has come out is great to do this forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792097.

Im going to go in the dark and guess - but you made the same thing we do with *#1472365# do?
Cos if it is indeed - it quite useless at its harder than typing up just one command (or using application like sgstools)

I was under the assumption that changed the product code or is that something else.
I really don't think its the same, as in the thread shown in the link above no one has said about that method.

that's server in north america, not satellites.
it's probably server that allows you to download satellite ephemeris data. since gps signal is broadcast, there's no need to specify which satellite to get the signal from, a receiver will just get whichever broadcasted and available signal.
so no, this will not help to improve the performance, even though I've not tried out your fix. If it helps, it's probably because at the point when the receiver is trying to pre-download satellite ephemeris data, the north america server is not available.
NTP = Network Time Protocol
Its a protocol used to synchronise time clock of computers, its definitely more logical to choose a server/pool that is geographically near but it wont totally solve the GPS issues, it might just makes things a bit better especially for finding GPS faster with A-GPS but classical GPS (without internet access) doesnt have access to NTP servers.

wast of time.
Use the gps meny in the phone and put it on auto or write the site there.
On 2.1 you can use *#*#1472365#*#* on 2.2 (froyo, jpk) use
*#3214789650#
Its NOT the satellite's you change. the are still up there and you can never choose witch to use. If you still say that you dont know much about GPS.
Guys.. Have you thought that the galaxy s misght have a problem with its clock? As you all know, gps systems depend heavily on clocks. So maybe there's a big enough drift in the gs's clock?

The title of this thread is VERY misleading. This "tweak" has nothing to do with improving GPS signal whatsoever. It just changes NTP server settings used for aGPS.
Can you help me find a program to control internet access??
I have no problems with wifi access, but when it's 3G, I have a limit of 100MB per month (my choice of course, but I want to keep it cheapest as possible )
I don't have wifi connected permanently, but I want to control the amount of traffic to know my limit.
I Know that for android are several programs... and for windows mobile??? Already made a fast search on google but nothing....
A little bit late, but.... Merry Xmas to all

I am using the attached application.
Thanks. I was testing the trial version of spb wireless monitor.
I'm going to test now this datacontroller.
Thanks people for the sugestions.
hazhysalon, this app you posted is not what I need. Thanks, but it's not what I'm looking for.
I want a app to control the amount of traffic and not the access to internet.
At the moment, the spb is what is closer from what I want. It's not cheap, but we can not have everything.... Or can we?
For free, check this:

Can anyone make a homebrew version of the 3G data usage? As in how much I use and warnings when it go over the limit. I know this is not possible on the marketplace, so can developers make this??

That would be a very cool thing. +1
As far as I know is that not possible at this time!
and you know this how? you do not look like recognized develop but i am not denying that you arent, just i have never heard of you.
It would be good if we can get some developers to work on this idea... This kind of app is available on iPhone and android....feels inferior if we can't even reach this function

no i'm not a developer right now, but i read a lot and long time in this forum.. often is this question ask, therefore i know it.
the windowphone7 has public API limitations. so developers in this forum can't create that kind of app, only cell-providers. at&t (provider) has create a app for data usage counter. but i don't know, whether other cell provider has apps like this.
maybe it is possible in future..
The current windows phone SDK does not offer the ability to know anything about data usage. It can tell devs if your connected to a mobile network and that's about it ... one could write an app to know when the phone is on a mobile network and then have a background task that listens for any network traffic being used. However, listening to the traffic would probably need to be a homebrew hack to get that info and it would be quite a bit of work to accomplish this correctly.
I have heard that win phone 8 will have this built in and much more for easier data tracking and laerting the user.
Windows Phone 8 will have this built in ... but for now you should use your carrier's app if they have one

I'm sure there are millions of developers other devs haven't heard of.
