Im interested in the et4g but it has a lower resolution than my x2 which is a huge drawback.
Are u guys satisfied with the resolution?

The Droid x2 is qhd (960×540) so it has a better resolution than the Epic touch (800x600).
Does it matter?
Opinion.
I don't see the big deal about resolution.
My HTC Evo's resolution is 800 x 480 [which is the same as the Epic Touch] and it looks just fine.
Epic Touch also has Super AMOLED Plus which looks niccce.

Why are you looking to switch to sprint?
This displays is leaps and bounds better than the droidx2 not to mention the other advantages.

I had the Evo 3D which had the same resolution of the x2, it was weird at first, but you don't really notice it after the first hour or so of using the phone.
The subpixel count is actually higher on the epic 4g touch than the qhd x2 you had, not to mention the lower resolution helps with battery life and looks better than any of the Motorola qHD screens because of the super amoled plus technology that's employed in samsung screens.

On a computer, I must be in the top percentile in how much I care about resolution. People see my 1920x1200 15.4" laptop screen, and say they're going blind. That's 147PPI.
The Epic 4G Touch is 800x480 on a 4.5" screen. That's 199PPI.
On my Epic 4G Touch, I just don't get the fuss over its resolution. I can almost never see the pixels. It'd be nice to have more, but just not a big deal. I came from the qHD Photon, which like your Droid had a PenTile display, and any benefit from the resolution was eliminated by the fact that text got distorted when small, such that I actually feel I can see more on my big Epic 4G Touch than I could on my higher-res Photon when zoomed out on webpages.
On such a tiny screen like all cell phones have, increasing screen size is to me a much bigger display improvement than increasing resolution when you already have to squint to make out the tiny details.
You should also read this blog and out will clear up any misunderstandings you have about the e4gt

would be nice if it was higher res but the super amoled plus screen makes up for it.
i use launcher pro and up the rows and columns to make everything a little smaller and it works out pretty good. i actually like the lower res on web browsing. less zooming is a good thing.
Im switching to sprint cuz my whole family is and ill be getting a better deal...
I dont know why samsung just didnt include a higher res display. Ino its not too noticeable but it would be nice.
If they announce that the prime will be on sprint ill get that instead.

Hello everyone,
I am a current evo 3d user who is purchasing the touch tomorrow (and giving the 3d to my financee).
Why am I purchasing the 4g touch. We all know it is a fast phone, it is great, etc, etc.
1) I want a phone that is fast, and great out of the box. I don't want to have to root it, overclock it, etc to make myself feel like I got my money's worth. The epic 4g touch will accomplish this (not saying I won't root it, or flash roms, I always do ).
2. I want a phone that is future proof. I want to be happy with the performance of my phone a year from now. I have yet to have a phone accomplish this, and I don't have the money to swap phones every 6 months (though I wish I did). I believe the epic 4g touch will be future proof...even for an entire upgrade cycle.
3. I want a great screen. The evo 3d didn't have this...and that is inexcusable for a "superphone" that cost as much as a good laptop. The epic 4g touch arguably has the best screen in the market at the moment.
4. Touchwize 4.0 looks pretty damn sweet
What do you guys think? Why are you buying the phone?
Also, for those who have the phone, how is the screen? Is the resolution lacking on such a big screen? How would you rate the phone for viewing pdf's....etc?
I am a graduate student, I need a phone I can read on .

This phone stock blows a rooted and overclocked 3d out the water. I just switched from the 3d and its better times 10.
Better signal. Better screen...even at lower resolution ..exynos core is a BEAST..plays n64 games on emulator stock smoother than overclocked evo. Better cameras..better speakers...this thing screams dude. And most of all...its a GREAT PHONE before anything. Great call quality..stronger reception than the 3d. If your on the fence..jump man..it's worth it
sent from my damn EPIC TOUCH 4G!!!!
Sounds like good reasons to me. The E3D is a great phone but I think this one is a little better all the way around.
I feel like the hdmi out would make up for the lack of a high res screen (even though it doesnt look any different from one that does). Just plus that sucker up to a cheap 10 inch hd TV and your set imo.

How much of a sore spot is not having TV Out on the original Epic? People go nuts over it whenever the thread gets bumped. If the WVGA screen uses any less battery than qHD then I can't think of anything I would complain about. I purchased 2 movies from Media Hub and, I am dead serious, the clarity is every bit as good as my 1080 HDTV...and that's on my Epic. I can't wait to see the same flix on the ET4G tomorrow since the screen is supposed to be a little better even. Power and battery life seem great from reviews, Improved Touchwiz..ok, I will give it a real chance. I can honestly see myself running rooted stock and not complaining abou it while waiting for the real goodies to get baked.

I'm coming from the Epic 4g and I loved that phone. I told myself I wouldn't upgrade until I found a true successor. With everything I have read about the E4gt i'm hoping this is the one. Plus I loved the developers for the Epic 4G and i'm hoping they come along to this phone as well!
I'm buying it because I know it's a beast of a phone that I'm going to fall in love with and appreciate for a very long time like i did my Evo was for it's time. But actually I am also buying a Samsung this time around because believe it or not, Apple is filing litigation against them. That unfortunately has become my litmus test of great products to come. As you can probably tell, I hate apple with a passion. Whoever Apple's suing the most at any given point will receive my business.
I am.... maybe buying it depending on Nexus Prime news or lack of Nexus Prime news over the next 4 weeks.
The deciding factors for me are:
1) The performance of the Processor and Video Processing. yes benchmarks doesn't fully tell the truth, but with out tweaking anything the numbers its putting it out is mind blowing. 90mflops with over 3000!!! Look at the gaming number too!!! next to the photon its a Tachyon!!
2) The Camera sensor. the only device to record at 1080p!!!! What is wrong with HTC and Motorola? why cant they contend with that ability. Its not a Android software issue. if the EVO 3D had DUAL 8MP EVO cameras at least then the EVO 3D would have had more stomping ground. More megapixels does mean a sharper image when sized down to smaller resolutions, to get real 35mm photo quality images digitally you need around 20 megapixels to equal the same sharpness and depth of analog camera quality. so in Digital Megapixel world less means LESS, yes the sensor may matter, but still digital needs more pixels to equal analog quality.
3) Battery Life. So far the reviews for Sept 15th are confirming that the battery life is better than the other 2 contenders.
4) THE SCREEN. 4.5 inches of pure bliss beauty. I cant wait to see the Samsung NOTE Super AMOLED HD 5 inch screen!!!!! too bad they couldnt have a higher resolution on the AMOLED + to the 960 x 540. Really I want the Samsung NOTE over the Epic now, but it looks like Sprint might not get it as in the specs doesn't show CDMA, still could mean a version for sprint may come out of the molds..
5) Software abilities, Yes Sense 3.0 still has amazing features that wont be copied, but then from the new motion sensing feature of Touchwiz looks promising. it was about time they used the motion/extra sensors to input with the software. Really I want full customization of any animated features for ALL phones, if you want a specific animated software feature, you should not be limited to only certain things per manufactures decision only be limited by the main operating system. If you want the cool Carousel feature of the main menu, Sense UI should not be the only one to have it. Heck having the carosel feature with shaking the Epic touch left or right with out using your finger would be KILLER. I also like the cube conveyor belt like feature of the Apps selection on the Nexus S. I have a few other animated features I want to see implemented that I saw with Ubuntu since android is based off of linux kernel, majority of all the Ubuntu like animated features could work on it. all in all the new software features is a serious worthiness.

Aside from the GPS, Samsung pretty much nailed the hardware in the Galaxy S line. Their Hummingbird based hardware blew away it's contemporaries, and the SAMOLED screen drew raves (although the pentile matrix display was docked points by some for the screen door effect and fuzzy text). But the software wasn't on the same level. Touchwiz 3.0 was not the greatest skin in the world.
The reason I'm getting the Epic Touch is because Samsung continued its hardware domination this generation, fixed GPS, went RGB stripe with the SAMOLED Plus screen, and, more importantly, worked very hard to make the software work on the same level as HTC's Sense skin. The result is arguably the best phone on the market (screen size preferences being the biggest deciding factor) and for what I look for in a phone, easily blows away it's nearest competitor. I am very, very happy that I decided to forgo the Evo 3D to wait indefinitely for the S2. Thank god it's here now, and thank god they moved to the 4.52" screen. The Epic Touch is basically my dream phone.

Lol. You've gotta be trollin'. One of the major downsides to qHD is that apps that weren't made properly wouldn't fill the screen, and that's annoying as hell.
No, everything looks fine...fantastic even. Very fantastic. Stunning.
Sux...I barely got into setting mine up before I decided to head for a 100% charge. I got it at 45%, but, I plan on leaving the house for a while later and don't wanna risk it. (turned off so it charges faster)
I'm expecting it to be good battery life, better battery life, but, nothing staggeringly better.
Trolling? Hardly.... I just picked up mine own. I remember you from the 3d forums. How's it going. I assume your happier with this device? I sure am so far...

True that
I dont know why ppl lying about photon display I saw it at the sprint store and it sucks than 3d let alone compete with epic touch.
In my opinion, this display looks much better than the pentile qHD I had on the Photon.
The way pentile cheated at resolution meant that its supposedly high-resolution was actually kinda a sham. When zoomed all the way out on webpages with fine text, it was ugly, and when scrolling through text like on the apps list, the text shrunk while it was being moved.
Here, the full resolution is actually usable, meaning that it actually looks higher-res than the Photon did to me.
The whites seem a little less white next to my Epic but I have a feeling they may be muted a touch to help with battery or something along those lines. I actually prefer it like this. My Epic is blinding at night even with brightness dropped all of the way down.

Actually, I'm having one issue with resolution..
I have some images of landscape I took while on vacation last year with my EVO 4G, used them for wall paper.
Put them on here (tried them on my daughters original Epic as well) and they images are fuzzy..
Any idea why?

Oh god dude, I decided to use a friends Sensation 4G for a day because I missed the look and feel and Sense 3.0 and that..lasted about 5 minutes haha. Grabbed Launcher Pro Plus and Beautiful Widgets and happy with that.
The sharpness and vibrancy coming from the screen was just..so intoxicating compared to the Sensation..couldn't last with out it. I use the desktop version of Youtube to watch videos now, the app doesn't do the job anymore for me.
While standing in the AT&T store today to get a replacement phone I saw the Skyrocket and Nitro side by side displaying the "Explore this Phone " program and realized there may not be any going back. The display on the Nitro is just incredible!

I went to the Skyrocket after having this phone and yes, I absolutely miss the HD screen...but for other factors I am totally happy with my exchange. As much as I loved the screen I was having issues with some websites displaying horribly small font which I then had to size and that was more hassle than it was worth at times. I also came to the conclusion more pixels in a small screen isn't always better. Oh well...do I miss the screen? Yes. Did I "go back"? yes. I survived. Lol...I feel like I'm in recovery or something.

Tried it out at an AT&T store, and I must say, that is a damn good screen.
Although, I can't wait for the Galaxy S II HD LTE, that thing is higher res, and is SAMOLED..... OH MY LORD.
It's not higher res by any means. In fact, due to its slightly larger size, its pixel density is slightly lower. The specs are very similar to our P930 here, though.
Thinking about getting an sgs2 and wondering how it is never had any hands on experience with it yet. Also is it anything the the Samsung charge because my mom has it and I hate it

Read all the reviews online. One of the best phones out there IMHO.
Thanks for the reply and I've read alot of reviews would just like a little more info I talked to people at Verizon when my mom got her Samsung charge and they tried telling me the epic was junk that it was laggy and bad screen quality. Might have just been them trying to get me to leave sprint though
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
They may have said that because the Epic Touch is on Sprint & wanted you to go with them (Verizon). Oops I see you said that.
Yeah I had Verizon can't go back there money hungry just hoping if I get this phone it wont have the grainy look of my mothers Samsung device can't stand it lol
Well based on resolution specs the Charge & Epic Touch both have Super AMOLED+, 480 x 800 pixels
However the Charge is slightly smaller at 4.3" vs Epics 4.52" & the ppi for the Charge is 217 vs Epics 206 ppi.
One would think that they aren't too far off & should give similar to identical views.
The Epic touch does have a dual core chip so I can't say if that alone gives the screen a better appearance?
I would go on a limb and say the Epic 4G Touch is the best phone Sprint currently has (Dual core does make a huge difference). Even stock it is smooth. With MODs it is even better (especially the battery and tethering capabilities).
The devs are awesome and the future looks nice so far (ICS is suppose to be out soon). My only wish is that the lock/unlock button wasn't on the side, as I loved where the EVO 4G's button was on top. But that is nit-picking and what ever, I adapted (sort of).
The Galaxy Nexus LTE will be in soon BTW, but after that a quad-core phone may soon be on the horizon. I would say make a pro's and con's list of what you want/need and go from there. I upgraded because my screen shattered and if I am paying a small amount to repair it when I had a upgrade... why not.

You can tell the pixel density compared to the evo3d from the ET4g, it depends on your preference. Side by side specs the resolution is the only advantage the GNex has over our phones.

As far as Screens go, the differences between the two are:
Galaxy Nexus uses a Super AMOLED HD screen. This is the same technology used in the original Galaxy S line but with a higher resolution. With that said, the stated resolution for the Galaxy S screens were 480x800, however tests have shown that the actual perceived resolution is more like 392x653.
This is because Super AMOLED uses an inferior subpixel arrangement called PenTile. which uses green sub-pixels as a base, and then alternates between blue and red ones, which makes the arrangement RG-BG.
The Galaxy S II uses a Super AMOLED Plus display that has a far superior sub-pixel arrangement. Samsung calls it Real Stripe, but in fact it is basically just a normal RGB arrangement, but results in 50% more sub-pixels per one dot of screen estate. The results are a much more crisp and clear image.
In terms of performance, the Galaxy S II has a superior processor, and graphics processor. Galaxy Nexus uses the same exact GPU as the Nexus S (and the original Galaxy S line.)
I like my E4GT but if I could do it over, I would have waited a few months and seen what came down the pipeline.
I picked up my E4GT in December as a replacement to my HTC EVO 4G and honestly, I can't really see THAT much difference. I mean the screen is nicer, it's faster, but I don't use my Android for mobile media devices. I use them to make calls, texts, as an alarm clock and as a portable hotspot for work or pleasure when I can't get access to WiFi.
Honestly the speeds on my EVO 4G were WAY better then on my Epic 4G Touch when on 3G.
I was would normally see a meg or so down, I'm lucky to see 100kbps on 3G now.
I do not pay for my phone so I've not complained much yet but I'm seriously considering paying the ETF and moving to ATT or something faster. What is the point of unlimited data if I can't use it? I remember thinking oh, I gotta be on Sprint because 4G will be so fast and unlimited blah blah blah. We actually HAVE 4G in my city and I'm like a mile too far away to use it and everything I do that has me mobile is the opposite direction of the 4G towers.
I'd rather have faster 3G at this point. I just haven't decided WHAT phone I want yet or with what carrier. I keep holding out that Sprints 3G will get better and I kept holding out for more 4G coverage, hence upgrading to the E4GT, guess I screwed up there.

Try a PRL hack, you'll probably get better 3g speeds and possibly kicked off with no etf, either way you win.
