[Q] Has anyone ported the prime boot animation yet? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

looks pretty awesome. would like to see it on the evo
http://pocketnow.com/android/first-look-at-the-nexus-prime-boot-animation-video

Boot animations are a series of jpg files put into an uncompressed zip file. The desc.txt file gives a few instructions. You can read up on it and become a master in a few minutes to an hour or so. I googled it and learned enough to make one of my 3 year old playing soccer.
In any case, I successfully loaded it on my evo pretty easily.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/08/download-nexus-prime-boot-animation/
to download a flashable version of it (click on nexus prime boot.zip).
I am not sure if you can just flash this zip file in recovery. Easier for me to just open it up and pull out the bootanimation.zip file.
I placed it on my hard drive, and then copied it over to prior bootanimation file:
/system/customize/resource/spc_bootanimation.zip
I renamed the old one to be safe, rebooted, and it seems to be working.
The desc.txt file may need to be tweaked to make it perfect, but to me it looks fine.

supar awesome. thanks alot! gonna try this out.

Looks really good ill check it out

Custom transition animations

dont know if this has been up, but i just last night was going through som forums and got the knowledge of that u can use custom animation transitions,
i couldnt realy find anything that was cool but i searched around anyways.
got a hold of this site
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/226604-how-mod-custom-transition-animations.html
where u can watch vids of some transitions.. and at the bottom u can download them.
i just downloaded the gingerbread theme i use and made copys of it
and open those in winrar and put the anim folder in the rar files in the res folder of the files and used CWM to apply those.. and all of the transitions seems to work on my galaxy s. i use the "Fly In and Flip Mix (from Fab's Apex)" on my phone right now and it rocks with darkys 5.2 rom, no lags or anything.. rly awesome.
so yeah thought it would be cool for people that do custom themes and roms and such to have som cool transitions

Ok erm.. silly question but how was i supposed to pull the framework-res from /system?
Cus i pulled it using root explorer n i erm.. effed it up n gona have to flash a new rom cus nothin shows up after the splash screen when rebooting.
Nice !! gonna be very usefull
Tried on JPU?
Anyone tried this for DOC XXJPU UltraSlim V3.0.1?
Tried it but no success so far. It boots but gets black and vibrates ever so often. Guess they might be ROM Specific? ( I added a lot of extra stuff so I just want to verify if it might be the animation)
Edit: Still error even without the animation so i probably FUBAR somewhere else.

I moved the framework-res.apk to sd-card so that i could connect phone to compter and and complete the process but once i moved the apk to sd card, i started getting force closes and eventually the screen went black (im not using a custom rom)
Should i have copied it instead of moving?
Im about to flash JPA with odin unless there's a fix?

ofcours u should have copied it since its a file for all the resources in your rom!
u can use adb to put the framework-res back again just do some google-foo
try out "how to adb framework-res" or something. should work.

[Q] Bootanimation sounds

I was wondering where would you put a bootanimation sound. I put a sm2_opening.ogg file in /system/media/ where the zip goes but when i rebooted the sound it didnt play.
so am i using the right file, wrong location? or am i completely off any help will be appreciated.
Currently running the acer LiquidMetal rom
Normally the sound file would have to be called out from the desc.txt , which is located within the bootanimation.zip file.
The ogg or mp3 file would be placed in the /system/media/ but needs to be called out by the desc.txt.
This my not work with the Liquid rom but worth a shot. Bootanimation sounds dont work with gingerbread....at the moment.
@ wilnotdie. Thanks a lot for the quick response could you post an example of the code needed for the desc.txt I don't know how to code lol.
Sent from my Liquid Metal using XDA App
No problem.
Code:
480 800 24
p 1 0 mrvl
s boot.mp3
@wilnotdie thanks for all your help btw do I enter the above code in terminal or just include it in the desc.txt

@wilnotdie got one more question for you champ should I rename the file to boot.mp3 or can I write the file name where it says boot.mp3 in the code or does it not matter. I should be good to implement it after this.
Sent from my Liquid Metal using XDA App
Doesn't matter. You can name the sound file whatever, just add the same name in the desc.txt file.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
This way worked for me, but only once I flashed the stock/froyo rom.
There's another method which uses xml files instead of desc.txt file, but that way might only work for motorola phones...and it looks more complicated. Haven't done much research on that as the first option worked.

Trying to get it to work on GB....
Let me know if you need any testers. Would be nice to have this on gb.
So is it only Liquid Metal that supports it? I'm running CM 6.1.1 and I was told that I couldn't do bootanimation sound..
@ wilnotdie ahhh i tried to do this myself and it didnt work for me i was hoping you could do it for me it would be really appreciated.
Also could you tell me what my error was the audio file is inside the part0 folder if you need it.
Man im mad happy you got this working i jus figured id give up lol. thanks again for all your help.
@xomikronx yea that would be really sweet if we could get this implemented on gb
I'm really glad a lot of people are getting use of this thread not to mention having boot sounds is cool as s**t especially if you have an animation that goes well with it
Sent from my Liquid Metal using XDA App
I'll take a look.... should be make it work.
Theres a few other special instruction needed. I'll post them soon.
You are trying to flash this through recovery, right?
The file you posted looks like its for recovery.
You can try flashing it again, and see if it works. Most likely you will need a different bootanimation binary file. This binary file, unless im mistaken, tells the phone how to play the bootanimation.zip etc...
The one you currently have, doesn't know how to process sound during boot. You will need a one that does.
If your original zip doesn't work, give this one a try. I moved the ogg file to the media folder, and also added the bootanimation binary which handles sound.
****Before Flashing The attached Zip!****
Backup everything on your phone, either through Rom Manager or Recovery...than before flashing the zip, please back up your original bootanimation binary file.
To do this, you can either use root explorer, go to
/system/bin/
and rename the file bootanimation to bootanimation2 or something different.
or from terminal
Code:
mount -o remount, rw /system
cp /system/bin/bootanimation /sdcard/origbootanimationbinary
mount -o remount, ro /system

@wilnotdie yea I was flashing it through recovery. Thanks for taking a look at it and making the changes ima go ahead and backup and then ill flash it ill post after I've done it and let you know how it goes.
I had no clue that the binary for that zip didn't know how to handle the sound like I said I don't know how to code so a lot of the stuff I see in these zip files I don't know what it means I can understand some of it just based off the knowledge I do have about android. Wish there was a way I could learn more about coding and stuff like that without it being to much of a hassle for someone to teach me.

[Q] problem with flashing ""bionic cow" rom

hi ppl, i come here for help because even after reading lots of how-to's i still cant do this, so the thing is, i used odin to flash to a stock rom, and so far so good, the rom had the extension .md5, used that one package, fine.
then i saw a rom called "bionic cow" and from what i could gather, i have to flash thru recovery, because it is a zip, ok chose it from sd card, zip file and all, and then, bam:
"E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(no space left on the device)
installation aborted."
one thing worth mentioning, the zip isnt called package, the card is 16gb, and it has like 14 free, internal mem has around 800 mb free.
what can i try now? yea i did wipe the internal mem thru recovery menus.
This occurs because you are trying to flash it with the stock recovery which as you have found will not work. You must use a custom recovery see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446593
thank you very much, i tried to flash the recovery before with odin, but it seems i wasnt waiting enough time.
It worked and i flashed with OKV4_Final rom.
Another question: what to do when the rom file is in the .7z extension? i extracted it and repacked with zip extension, but it doesnt seem to apear in recovery menu.
EDIT: forget about it, all is good, i was looking in wrong dir.
Thanks
Help!
Please help me.
I also have a problem flashing the same ROM. I have flashed CWM and put the package in .zip file in the SD card (I rename it to Bionic_cow.zip) and install it on CWM, but I get an error saying "Installation Aborted" with an Android with X Sign (?) on the background of the recovery. Can somebody identify what is wrong?
You can't just rename it to zip you have to use 7zip first to combine the two parts

I use a Mac, but either way I didn't rename it to zip. I extracted the original file and compressed it again as a .zip file, but since the file's name is too complicated, I renamed it. Speaking of this, maybe renaming it causes this error?

Create a new folder...place part.1 n part.2 in the same folder.
Extract part.1....part.2 will self merge into one folder.
Browse into that folder and highlight all items n create .zip.
You can name it anything as long as it has. zip

But there's a stupid question though:
I notice that whenever I lock my phone, it has this animation (bug?) like an old television turned off. Is this part of the ROM?

[Q] ROM Malice Boot animation

Hey guys, I flashed the new Malice Rom (3/20/12), and I was wondering how I can switch the zombie boot animation. I know where to put the zip file, (/system/media) Somehow I cannot seem to get other ones to work. I made sure the replacement files mirror the original. Do I need to flash the entire file as opposed to just replacing the files using root explorer? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I renamed it to bootanimation.zip, etc.
Copy and then Change permision file in root explorer rw-r-r

Well, I tried a couple other ones, and no dice. Could it be that the rom itself only allows that one(or none)?
Download rom toolbox and get the boot animations from there. By far the easiest way.

[q] boot animation help!!!!

Hey guys, I'm running CM10(stable). i loved the bootani, like seriously, i pretty made out with my phone each time i saw it. Then i went ahead and flashed TRINITY kernel. That completely changed the bootani into something that i just completely hated. I followed a bunch of how to's and copy this file here and delete this one and change permissions. and NONE of that worked for. Instead, when i followed them and delete the old bootani and copy the new one, not only did it not work, I'm now stuck with no animation! I found a tutorial with a .zip that when flashed, allows you to flash any bootani you want and everyone that has used that has had success. but thats not working for me either! Can someone please give me a tutorial or link me to one that can at least give me a bootani, CM10 preferably, but right now, just having a bootani is my main priority.
Thanks to anyone and everyone that at least attempts to help and a BIG thanks to the ones that actually help!:good:
Once again, Thanks in advance everyone !:good:
Also, i would prefer to not have to do a fresh install of CM10 or have to go back to TW. I would like it to just fix my animation problem without really flashing anything ROMS or doing a reset or stuff like that.
Thanks!
Changing your boot animation is actually not too hard.
Look for a bootanimation that you like and download it. It should be named bootanimation.zip and contain a desc.txt file and a couple folders with images in them. If its named something else rename it to bootanimation.zip
Using root explorer navigate to system/media and rename the current bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak as a backup. you could just delete it if u want.
Then copy the one u downloaded to system/media and change the permissions to rw-r-r
Reboot your phone and enjoy.
I'd avoid using utilities or flashing zips...its easier and safer to do it manually.
BTW here's a pretty cool one that I use:
