Custom transition animations - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

dont know if this has been up, but i just last night was going through som forums and got the knowledge of that u can use custom animation transitions,
i couldnt realy find anything that was cool but i searched around anyways.
got a hold of this site
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/226604-how-mod-custom-transition-animations.html
where u can watch vids of some transitions.. and at the bottom u can download them.
i just downloaded the gingerbread theme i use and made copys of it
and open those in winrar and put the anim folder in the rar files in the res folder of the files and used CWM to apply those.. and all of the transitions seems to work on my galaxy s. i use the "Fly In and Flip Mix (from Fab's Apex)" on my phone right now and it rocks with darkys 5.2 rom, no lags or anything.. rly awesome.
so yeah thought it would be cool for people that do custom themes and roms and such to have som cool transitions

Ok erm.. silly question but how was i supposed to pull the framework-res from /system?
Cus i pulled it using root explorer n i erm.. effed it up n gona have to flash a new rom cus nothin shows up after the splash screen when rebooting.

Nice !! gonna be very usefull

Tried on JPU?
Anyone tried this for DOC XXJPU UltraSlim V3.0.1?
Tried it but no success so far. It boots but gets black and vibrates ever so often. Guess they might be ROM Specific? ( I added a lot of extra stuff so I just want to verify if it might be the animation)
Edit: Still error even without the animation so i probably FUBAR somewhere else.

I moved the framework-res.apk to sd-card so that i could connect phone to compter and and complete the process but once i moved the apk to sd card, i started getting force closes and eventually the screen went black (im not using a custom rom)
Should i have copied it instead of moving?
Im about to flash JPA with odin unless there's a fix?

ofcours u should have copied it since its a file for all the resources in your rom!
u can use adb to put the framework-res back again just do some google-foo
try out "how to adb framework-res" or something. should work.

[Q] How to replace dialers?

I want to use the dialer from the PlurStar theme with REVOlution. How would I do that?
I pulled the dialer .apk from the theme and tried to install it but it wouldn't work. I figure I need to use adb and just pull out the old dialer and replace it with the new one. Am I correct? How would I do that? What would I need to type in adb?
Thanks.
I'm thinking that you need to include that apk into a zip file that can be flashed via recovery...
What does that involve? I'm assuming I can't just put it in a plain old zip file.
I remove and replace files in the rom zip using winrar, then flash the zip to the phone. Sometimes it works sometimes it wont, who knows maybe one day well see a Phatman rom lol.

Well kind of... If you look for the SU apk (the new one) you'll see that it was an APK but it could not be directly installed so it was converted into a zip file. I know that there is more than just compressing the file, some additional files must be put in the zip as well so the recovery manager can extract it on the phone. I'd download the zip and check what it is inside besides the apk itself. You can also ask one of the dev to make it a zip for you.
Well I just used Regaw's zipmaker to do it, and it flashed but my dialer is still the same.
WhOops wrong thread.
Like phatman said, just take the Rom, extract it, look for system/app, drop the dialer in there and zip it back up. That's what I just got done doing this weekend with calks Rom, so I could have a dialer with vibration reenabled.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah I just finished putting together my zip, but I didn't do it with a ROM, I did it with the REVOlution theme. I just extracted it, dropped the dialer .apk in to it and recompressed it. Going to try flashing it in a little bit.
Didn't work. Got an error that says "can't find update script". I think it has something to do with needing to resign the zip, which I don't know how to do.

Use winrar and dont unzip the ROM, the program will add/remove files without actually unzipping, like I said, its a hit or miss, or worst case you get a boot loop.
Just use the ROM and swap the dialers. U won't have to wipe or anything to reflash. I used 7z, extracted to a folder, swapped dialers then rezipped without any problems flashing.

Lol same here, I only got it to work during my g1 days. After that it was a no go, not sure if its user error or my computer. Find a solution to your dialer yet?
It's on the back burner right now. I'm currently beta testing RegawMOD so I'm not going to mess with the dialer until I'm done with it. I will try swapping the apks in winrar though as soon as I am done with the beta test. Kinda getting burned out on constantly flashing all day long. I need to get some sun lol

[Q] problem with flashing ""bionic cow" rom

hi ppl, i come here for help because even after reading lots of how-to's i still cant do this, so the thing is, i used odin to flash to a stock rom, and so far so good, the rom had the extension .md5, used that one package, fine.
then i saw a rom called "bionic cow" and from what i could gather, i have to flash thru recovery, because it is a zip, ok chose it from sd card, zip file and all, and then, bam:
"E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(no space left on the device)
installation aborted."
one thing worth mentioning, the zip isnt called package, the card is 16gb, and it has like 14 free, internal mem has around 800 mb free.
what can i try now? yea i did wipe the internal mem thru recovery menus.
This occurs because you are trying to flash it with the stock recovery which as you have found will not work. You must use a custom recovery see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446593
thank you very much, i tried to flash the recovery before with odin, but it seems i wasnt waiting enough time.
It worked and i flashed with OKV4_Final rom.
Another question: what to do when the rom file is in the .7z extension? i extracted it and repacked with zip extension, but it doesnt seem to apear in recovery menu.
EDIT: forget about it, all is good, i was looking in wrong dir.
Thanks
Help!
Please help me.
I also have a problem flashing the same ROM. I have flashed CWM and put the package in .zip file in the SD card (I rename it to Bionic_cow.zip) and install it on CWM, but I get an error saying "Installation Aborted" with an Android with X Sign (?) on the background of the recovery. Can somebody identify what is wrong?
You can't just rename it to zip you have to use 7zip first to combine the two parts

I use a Mac, but either way I didn't rename it to zip. I extracted the original file and compressed it again as a .zip file, but since the file's name is too complicated, I renamed it. Speaking of this, maybe renaming it causes this error?

Create a new folder...place part.1 n part.2 in the same folder.
Extract part.1....part.2 will self merge into one folder.
Browse into that folder and highlight all items n create .zip.
You can name it anything as long as it has. zip

But there's a stupid question though:
I notice that whenever I lock my phone, it has this animation (bug?) like an old television turned off. Is this part of the ROM?

[Q] ROM Malice Boot animation

Hey guys, I flashed the new Malice Rom (3/20/12), and I was wondering how I can switch the zombie boot animation. I know where to put the zip file, (/system/media) Somehow I cannot seem to get other ones to work. I made sure the replacement files mirror the original. Do I need to flash the entire file as opposed to just replacing the files using root explorer? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I renamed it to bootanimation.zip, etc.
Copy and then Change permision file in root explorer rw-r-r

Ok, maybe it cause your custom boot animation not valid..

Well, I tried a couple other ones, and no dice. Could it be that the rom itself only allows that one(or none)?
Download rom toolbox and get the boot animations from there. By far the easiest way.

[help] problems changing status bar notification icons

Hello XDA,
I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to change the status bar notification icon for a new sms from the standard Samsung closed envelope icon to the stock AOSP ICS square smiley face with the little tail. I have already got the icon and it is the correct size and file type (.png) and name (stat_notify_message.png) and I have tried a few ways of adding it into Mms.apk such as simply using 7Zip and decompiling & recompiling numerous times but the end result is always that the Messaging app is being removed completely and I'm having to restore a nandroid backup to get it back.
I have been looking all over XDA and have used trusty old Google to find solutions to my problem. Both come up with lots of different ways to theme, but none that solve my problem (as far as I can see anyway). Could anyone please point me in the right direction to find the guide on how to do it/explain to me how to do it successfully?
I am on a stock odexed XWLPG rom which is rooted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What I have done in the past is put the mms.apk on your pc. Use 7zip to OPEN ARCHIVE (NOT EXTRACT), then put the NEW .png file with the correct name on your pc. Now without unzipping the mms.apk just use 7zip to find the location of the file you want to replace. Now just hold down on the new .png file and drag it into the corrext location. Then 7zip will ask if you are sure you want to replace it. Hit ok or yes or whatever it says. Now move the mms.apk back onto your phone. Use root explorer and move it to /system. Then long press on it and choose permissions. Change it to rw,r,r. Then long press again and select MOVE. Then navigate to /system/app and paste. Reboot phone. It will work.
For some .apk they are picky like mms.apk dont like being extracted and zipped back up for some reason while others have NO issues when you extract them and rezip and rename then place them in.

Thank you so much RockRatt, you have solved my problem. Words cannot express my relief, thanks & gratitude for your sound advice. I had tried what you said to do previously, but never with the permission changes. Is that something that needs to be done for every apk or just some? Thanks once again, I am so happy! What an easy was to change the icon. It looks great. See screenshots.
So anyone out there in XDA land that is looking for a quick, easy mod (provided you're rooted) then simply follow RockRatt's easy to follow guide and you will never go wrong. And give him a thanks if his guide helped you in any way!!

You can clear the cache & dalvik-cache either before or after flashing the battery mod. I'd probably try it before and see how you go.
You know how to clear the dalvik-cache, yes??
I think the problem with the VK battery files is they are from a pre jkay release. Now the Rom is using jkay framework I don't think you can flash them. It could be possible to swap the icons like the OP did though using 7zip?

HELP! System ui has stopped working s3 i747

Hey guys, i tried flashing a theme which was the circular battery percentage w/15 toggles last night, via cwm and when i rebooted after flashing it took longer than usual and when it finally booted i got a pop up saying " unfortunately system ui has stopped working" how do I fix it? i didnt have any backup (yes I know im a genius), now, i was wondering, does any of you guys have the stock system ui files to flash it via cwm?
here is the h9 one
thanks, man but when i try and install it it tells me that the app was not installed
you dont intall it rename your old systemui.apk to systemui.bak and place the new one in the same spot it should be system/app then reboot your phone and it should work or you can reflash your rom with out wipe and that will fix it too

thanks for the answers guys, sorry for being such a noob, but where can i find the systemui.apk file? in order to replace it

is there any tweak i must know of in order to replace/rename the file systemui.apk it doesn't let me do anything because it's a read only file
and does it matter if mine is a telus i747m?
what app are you using to do this
root explorer, with superuser permissions
ok when your in the folder where systemui is click mount r/w at the top of the screen then you can rename it
thanks man, you saved my life right there, now, the other question is, where did you get the systemui.apk file? and could I find it for a galaxy note i717d as well?
i pulled it from the zip in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902178
as for the note you should be able to pull it from a stock rom in its section on these forums
Thank you
Thanks so much I was finally able to get 7.1 to work with your UI file!!:good:
