So everytime I sign out to try to log in with another account, it signs me in automatically to my main account. Help!
What? You sign in and out of gtalk but you sign in with one name and another logs you in?
Accounts in gmail, sign in your other names, option for different usernames are in gtalk after so you aren't signing in and out.

Not sure exactly what u mean op but check the gtalk settings and see if the box is checked for sign in automatically. Also I'm nit sure u can log into gtalk with another account cause I think it goes by the account on the phone.

I have two separate gmail accounts. I unchecked log into gtalk automatically, and it still signs me in whenever I go to the app. I've looked through all the settings. Just wanted to know if I was missing something. I just switched from an Evo 4G and you could do it on that phone. So, idk

Let me ask you something, did the other contacts that you had sync just fine? I also want to ask if you know that you might just syncing with YOUR phone contacts, there's an option there to sync all or just sync your phone contacts. If you sync all then it should bring this new facebook contact into your phone app but if you just sync with your phone contacts then whatever you inputed yourself is going to replace the picture and add their email/facebook profile....nothing more, nothing less.
Try this....uninstall your facebook app by either going into your settings/applications and doing it that way or if is installed in your system/app directory then use root explorer and delete the entire app that way. REBOOT....then go into the market, download facebook once again. Now go to settings/accounts & sync and make sure you got your settings to syncing automatically.........NOW, go and open your facebook app and make sure when you log in that you click sync all or whatever is called...don't have my phone next to me so I'm going off of memory here..lol....Now wait a couple of seconds while your phone syncs and your new facebook buddy should be in your phone app.
Hope this has help, if it did then hit the THANKS button if it didn't....at least I tried! GOOD LUCK!!!
I uninstalled htc facebook and after a reboot and redownloading facebook I cannot add an account again. I think I did something wrong. Can I get htc facebook back?

I fixed it. I had to reflash the rom but it's well now.

So, I know someone that just bought an Epic, used to have a Hero. He didn't know his gmail address when he went in to buy the Epic yesterday, and so the guy at the Sprint store set him up with a new gmail address. Now of course he can't access any of his sync backups or purchased apps. I told him I thought there was a way to figure out the gmail acct attached to the phone, but I wasn't sure how, so I thought I'd ask you guys.
I tried looking in getprop with connectbot, but that only shows the @sprintpcs email address. I can't think of another way off the top of my head that it would work. Apparently the gmail address is no longer listed in a conspicuous location on the phone, such as under settings/accounts and sync/manage accounts. Wouldn't this be able to be discovered on the phone through some method? Maybe the dialer codes, such as ##3282# (though I know that one wouldn't do the job)?

You mean in the gmail app? As far as I'm aware it's not listed in there currently, but I will double-check with him again. He said the Sprint guy looked for the gmail address on the phone and couldn't find it, but I suppose that doesn't really mean much, since Sprint sales tech knowledge tends to be a hit and miss luck of the draw kind of thing. I was hoping there was another way I could find it buried in code or whatnot.
Maybe there's a data file for the Market that I could open in xml and spot the associated gmail address?

Hmmm.
If I go to Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and sync I see my account listed under "Manage accounts".
I believe there should be something similar on the Hero. I just checked a Droid 2 and I had to look under "Accounts" instead of "Accounts and sync".
If what you are saying is that your friend can't remember the gmail address that he had on his Hero...Try going to the gmail login page on a computer..click the "can't access my account link". The next page it takes you to will have a "Forgot my Username" link.... Have your friend try putting in his primary email account that he may have associated it with when creating the first gmail account. They will then email all gmail usernames associated with that email address.
Put the hero on WiFi and have him email his new address from it.
Recover your gmail account via your phone number.
Send an email from your phone?
Sorry. I forgot getting an email address from your phone was rocket science.

The last time I messed with my phone was a few months back at minimum. The last update I think was EC05, I came on to the forum and saw a bunch of new build numbers, is EC05 still the latest official sprint release??
Reason I'm back here is because my txt message contact photos no longer showed up, so I thought it had something to do with my root not updating my phone.... I had CWM 2.5? It was the older one, I just saw that you guys are at 3. something now.... but anyways, i unrooted and went back completely to stock. I readded my contacts and synced my fb..then i tried to txt my wife, and the result of the contact photo is still the same under the txt msg area!!!!!! WTF!!!!! i erased my phone completely for nothing!!!!! Can anyone tell me if you guys are having the same issues or is it just my loser phone? Thanks.
EC05 is the latest and yes, txt contact photos have pretty much never worked for me either. How the Epic/Android syncs or doesn't sync them with FB is a mystery. If the person has a gmail pic that may show up correctly.
I had trouble with this at first on EC05. I had to delete my FB account from the phone, delete all my contacts (all saved on Google), then restore contacts from Google and readd the FB account. I think I used FB for Android, not the native FB account when adding it back. Then in about 30 minutes or so the contacts matched. A few I had to join manually.
As for the latest builds, there are leaked Gingerbread ROMs with EG22 that you can try. The EF02 was very buggy but EG22 is pretty good if you want a taste of Gingerbread. Official has not released yet therefore no source code for DEVs to enhance.
When you go to accounts and sync and add an account you need to use the facebook that is at the top of the list not the facebook app at the bottom

This has happened to me before, but someone posted a fix a while ago.
1. Go to settings > Accounts and sync
2. Delete all the accounts(Well, you don't have to delete twitter or google, but the facebook ones)
3. Reset your phone.
4. Go back into settings > Accounts and sync.
5. Add the facebook account(Under Integrated, not more).
6. To test if this worked, sync a contact to facebook(Long pressing their name, click "Link account", find the account and link them) and then compose a new text message with that contact. Their picture should come up.

Use this. It never had anything to do with root. It happened to me back when I wasn't rooted.
thanks for all the responses guys. i finally found out what was wrong with the txt msg photos... i guess fb had updated a while back but i never got around to studying it.... it seems that after you sign into your account on fb to sync your contacts, it then takes you to a screen where it lets you "check" box the friends you want to include in your contacts...it never made sense for me to select the friends that were already synced to my phone via the other facebook...so i always hit "cancel"...but last night i hit select all, now it seems that i have friends who were doubled up under my contacts list.... so i would see two "john dos" in my contacts and i had to JOIN them together.... now under that "john do" contact, i now see 2 fb accounts and the original phone number icon...so im assuming theres no way around joining every single contact manually.......
but long story short, you have to select all your friends you wish to add for syncing, then you'll see doubles, you then have to just join them all together in one big mess ..now my contact photos show now....why so complicated now
Maybe this is more of a general ICS question but I'm not sure where else to ask it. I just bought a VZW GN and I'm getting it up and working but one thing is really bothering me. I have 2 gmail accounts, one general with talk enabled and one business account (google apps) with talk disabled. I have the account settings set to sync e-mail and calendar from the google apps account. However, google talk CONSTANTLY informs me that it was unable to sign in on the google apps account.
I use google talk quite a bit, but only on my personal account. Is there away to remove my business account from google talk? or at least stop the automatic sign on? This was never a problem in my previous android phones.
You should be able to disable the automatic sign in through settings. Don't forget to log off as well.
Another way around this is to wipe the phone, and then add your personal account to the device first. With every Android phone, the first gmail account to be added becomes the default GTalk account, plus it is the main market account. In the past (before you could switch market accounts), if you accidentally used the wrong account during initial setup, you had to wipe the phone to fix it. Now that market can handle multiple accounts, I think you only have to wipe to fix the default gtalk account.
I don't even know if it's possible to sign in more than one Gtalk account? If not, then you have to wipe and start over, making sure that the account you want to use for gtalk is your first account on the phone.
At least, that's how it's always worked with gingerbread and earlier. I don't know about ICS just yet (my GNex is charging and i'm avoiding setup until I get home).
Hey guys,
I've been messing around with this off and on all day. From what I can tell, ICS logs into multiple Gtalk accounts simultaneously. This would be great except for the fact that one of my accounts has Gtalk disabled.
@ Ves - I cannot find in settings where to disable automatic sign on. I can see the "sign out" option, but the account I'm trying to disable the automatic sign on for is already signed out (since it can't sign on). Still, I pushed it and it is still trying to reconnect quite frequently. I've been in and out of these settings all day so if I'm blind and another Nexus user found the option please tell me where it is!
@ ZPrimed - I actually did add the personal account (with Gtalk enabled) to the phone first. I added my work e-mail second. I am pretty sure what you are talking about was how I set up my Gingerbread phone before but now since there seems to be multiple signon to Gtalk it is adding both accounts to it and I still can't figure out how to remove one!
FYI, I think the failed sign ons are due to the fact that I am consistently losing 4g coverage every 30 mins or so (it's been this way since last week on my Thunderbolt) and the phone is trying to sign back on both Gtalk accounts when a connection returns.
Hmm. I have two accounts as well, gapps and standard, but my situation is reversed. I own the gapps domain, so I use talk on my gapps account, and my gmail account is just along for the ride. The gmail account is my spambin, or I use it when stupid websites feel that a hyphen is invalid in an e-mail address (my gapps domain has a dash in it). I don't really use it for anything else, i only sync mail and calendar on it.
I'm still using my Stratosphere right now, and on it the only account signed in to talk is my gapps account, and I can't find any way to enable the other account at all (i.e. I think gingerbread may be limited to one talk account, period).
Once I switch over to the nexus tonight I'll take a look and let you know what I find though.

My apologizes. I took another look and saw the option wasn't there on the GN. It's on the SGS2 as I took a look there. Mistook the option for each version.
Still weird that Google Talks keep trying to reconnect when you've chosen "Sign Out".
Have you tried activating the chat in Gmail then log in from your phone, wait a bit then sign out. Then go back to Gmail and disable it again.
Hey guys,
I asked the admin of our gapps domain very nicely to enable chat so i could try to fix my phone. once he enabled it, i was immediately able to sign on to gtalk thru the nexus, then select "sign out". This stopped the automatic sign on attemps. he disabled chat on the domain again and the phone seems to not mind. this seems to have solved my problem. thanks for the advice!
Hi there
The thing is whenever I add a new phone number to my contacts list they don't show up there. When saving the contacts I choose to save them to my Google account. So if my phone dies or is stolen I can recover all my contacts. The thing is they're not appearing on my contact list. Even tough I've selected in contacts to show: All contacts.
The only way to find them (since universal search was removed) is to use the dial to type the name (most of the time without luck) or go to the call log (if I called that number before).
I've come to think the contact IS on the phone, Cuz it appears in the log with the name I've given it.
I have account sync on, I've turned the phone off and on.
I've been experiencing this problem on different phones (HTC Inspire 4G and now on a GS3).
If anyone can help, thanks!

Adding this in case any one else is seeing the same issue:
Did you check if any of your sync accounts are failing to sync? In my case it was facebook sync so i removed FB from the list of accounts to sync with and the other contacts were restored. Mine is Galaxy S2 running ICS so YMMV.
Looks like a bug in Android is preventing it from showing contacts even if one of many sync accounts fail.

I had the same problem on my HTC One X. After some time I figured it out. Sign out of your Google mail account and resign in again. After a 'sync'
all my contacts magically appeared. I hope this helps.

This has been happening to me for a while now, and it was driving me insane!! I also save all my contacts to gmail account, yet all of them never show up, even with display all contacts. Sometimes, even doing a search in contacts would not find them, even though they were there!! Just now figured it out, and I am happy, happy, happy!! No need to sign out and sign back in. Just go into your contacts, hit the menu button to bring up settings, hit contacts to display, check 'customized list", now there should be a setting button beside that, hit that, go down to your gmail account and pick it, now u will see like 6 boxes, such as my contacts, starred in android, etc, all the way at the bottom check "all other contacts", save it and you're in business!! Hope this helps...

Unfortunately I don't have a 'contacts to display' or 'customise list' on my HTC One X, just 'Only with phone number' option but never mind
whatever works.
If there's a will, there's a way!
My suggestion : Go into CONTACTS. Hit the RIGHT OPTION (CONTACTS) Then the MENU button. Then ACCOUNTS. Tap on your GOOGLE account. In there you will have the SYNC options.
I just went through this because all of my contacts are not syncing. I have 95% of them for whatever reason.......

Try deleting your google account completely from your phone and re-adding it after a reboot.
This is driving me crazy too...
So,I've installed kitkat 4.4.2 on Friday and everything was really ok. Today I realized when someone is calling me on Viber, there are no contacts, the same is with WhatsApp.
And when I want to use my phone contacts, they are all gone. Then I need to copy the contacts from the sd card(cause there is no option to show contacts from sim card) and they showed up,when I click on Viber again, the contacts are gone again.
Anyone can help me with that???

no one was able to fix it ( most probably everyone is busy in the I-phones . . . . )
