How easy wud it be port an original. Wildfire. Rom to our wildfire s.
Impossible, different screen res and size. Wildfire has QVGA whilst WFS has HVGA
Its perfectly possible. Devs from the wildfire forum have ported roms from higher res phones.

Why on earth would you want a wildfire rom on your wildfire S? It's older, smaller and slower.. duh.

You port things from similar devices. For example on the wildfire we've ported roms from the HTC Hero. Because of the similar CPU and input devices (trackball)

its perfectly possible...and for the screen size etc... u can changue the dpi values etc....
but i think that its better to wait for a custom rom based in a marvel oficial european ruu....
at the htcmania forum there are some custom roms with sense and without sense,,,, the problem is the language,,, if u don´t find it... PM and i will provide the direct link...

Because those are higher end phones. It's easy to port phones with similar specs, screen sizes, etc. It is somewhat possible to port roms from higher end devices but it requires a lot of coding and resizing.

This is my list of phones similar to the Wildfire S. I posted it in the dev section so devs could port things to and from these devices. These are in Similar to Unsimilar order top to bottom.
- HTC Salsa
- HTC Desire C
- HTC Aria
- HTC Pico/Explorer
- Samsung Galaxy ACE
- HTC Legend
- HTC Hero
- HTC MyTouch 3G
- HTC Wildfire
If I missed any out feel free to reply
Hero
HTC Hero and Heroc are similar as well.
Heroc would be at the top of my cdma porting list mainly because team hydra seem to have some good devs with some good notation on their ports.
Rob
HTC Legend isn't the most similar?

Yes and no.
Yes: its possible
No: it gets complex, I am working (very slowly and quietly) on a 3.5 port but .sense comes before that and cm9 comes before that.

Looks the same but the hardware is very different.
Only similar device for the wildfire s is Salsa cause if you port it in dsixda Kitchen all hardware works. So maybe backwards to. So if ever someone makes roms for Salsa it would be easy to port it. just like cooking rice. and use some modded files from other ports in some phones. Lets pray there would be devs for Salsa.

Hi , I am an user of htc explorer. As there is no separate sub forum for htc explorer and I have also htc wfs , I am writing here . I found there are lots of custom Rom support for wfs . Can any developer port cm9 or Miui4 like Rom for explorer . Explorer is almost similar as wfs except sense 3.5 and android 2.3.5.
The Samsung Galaxy mini is Veerrry similar but it has a lower pixel density ... but the processor is ARMv6 600 MHz , and the screen is 3.17" while our wildfire S is 3.2" which verifies it can be easily ported ! take a look at the Galaxy mini forums ! I tried to port a rom once but while flashing it said Status 0 ... have an idea ??

Guys !! First i wanna say thanks to benjamingwynn for "turning my sight" for the Galaxy ACE , cuz i see super duper roms for the ACE , including the Sense 3.0 based ROM which i am downloading right now to attempt to port it later !
EDIT:: Failed to install the ported ROM through dsixda's kitchen , it says Status (6) now ... any ideas guys , and this is very important because the 3d sense was never ported to the WFS , and I am calling this ROM "The Sens3D ROM" (the 3 is acting as E) so it is spelled "The Sensed ROM"

OFFICIAL NEWS...SORRY GUYS
What devices will not get Android 4.0?
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, and others.
Thank the devs for CM9
I think it's been pretty clear from the beginning that the WFS is not a candidate for HTC ICS. Therefore:

Because ROM and RAM are not the same thing. 512MB RAM is fine, but 512MB of ROM (Stupid naming, as it isn't really read-only) is a problem when you toss in sense on top of base android. It would leave you practically no space for apps (which is already an issue on GB) or anything without link2SD or similar, which HTC isn't going to be doing as stock. For example, my incredible S (which is getting ICS) has a full 1.1GB of ROM, so they have loads of space to play with.
There's people in the dev section working to port the golf (aka desire c) ICS rom to the wildfire S. They're only able to get it to fit via extra optimizations (deodexing, pngcrush, stripping optional stuff, etc.)that HTC wouldn't be interested in using.

Gingerbread went up to 2.3.7.
But the fixes in those aren't real relevant to the WFS. 2.3.6 fixed a voice search bug and 2.3.7 added wallet support to the nexus S.

As sly said, no.
Why? Because the Wildfire S is similar to the Wildfire only in name and form factor.
The internals are completely different.
If i install it would my cpu be overlocked to 600mhz. And i will have 2.3 android, and 3.5 htc sense.
And phones have same display resolution, only wildfire has trackball.

:lmao: i think you need to reread the product descriptions.
The wildfire s is an upgrade to the wildfire, the original wildfire is ldpi and the wildfire s is mdpi so no they have totally different screen resolutions.
As they said above the internals are completely different and it will never work without a lot of tweaking........

he seems to not understanding this, guy you cant install roms from other phones. you can overclock wildfire to 761 with certain kernels. so read the wildfire index and try transilating.
not be as they are totally different internally, but could cook rom but it would take some work and effort to wildfire specifications
can we make one for our htc wildfire s is it difficult

We don't need a 3.0 kernel, it's the fact that sense4 doesn't have ARMv6 libs, and it never will since all sense4 devices are ARMv7. Trust me on that, since Ben, a couple others and I spent months trying to port it. It's not gonna happen.

First off I don't know how to, second I think the reason modpunk isn't working on it anymore is because it doesn't work. But I'm not sure on that.
Anyways if you look at what's not working, it's pretty much a no-goer for most of us users.
It's sense 4a not sense 4 actually so its missing the good animations part, the ROM is still alpha, it is on ext4, that's another problem that would add pressure on phone and sdcard, the biggest and main problem is, cm10 is not fully working, which I suspect, won't ever. We don't need stuffs those are half working.

resolution of device doesnt really matter a lot though
it only makes it easier
like on the HTC Xplorer Pico they ported Sense 4.1 from XHDPI device and fully resized every single app manually
but if u take from same res u wont need to do this
although Sense 5 needs ION and tons of other 3.4+ kernel related stuff inside kernel to even boot its harder then something like sense 4 or sense 2.0+
the question is who build like this ROM???

I've seen this kind of movement before on many devices (mainly xperia phones, cuz they got ****load of buyers so also developers). The outcome, after of course hours and hours of work is a and IF it boots, is a buggy and laggy rom which nobody is ever going to use except for some developers. I'm not saying that it's impossible...I'm saying that it's not really worth it. Oh and before you start responding 2 things
1st: I'm a big fan of sense. I just LOVE this thing
2nd: If we want sense we need more than just one experienced developer which is able to spend time on this project, porting Sense really can't be just a weekend hobby.
