No los on stock kernel, only get it on custom kernels.
Sent from my Samsung Epic Touch 4G
haven't had a loss yet on stock
only used zedo's V3 to get root, 5 mins later flashed back to stock
rooted as soon as I activated, on zedo's V3 and get on average one LOS per day
When I was on a stock Never had Los Thankfully.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
stock, never had los, phone works fantastically, super fast wifi, 3g works as expected, and 4-6meg d/l speeds on 4G..
sw 'burbs of Chicago
Never had LOS ever. My phones superB
My situation.....Had the phone for 4 days before rooting without any LOS. Rooted it and the following day had an LOS. Next day I had it happen again.
Sent the phone back for a replacement that I just received yesterday. I am not going to root this one and will see if I get an LOS. My guess is no but only time will tell.
Also, for people who have rooted their phone and then put the stock kernel back on it and still receive LOS, I would consider this a rooted phone and not report it as stock with an LOS issue. Stock to me is someone that hasn't rooted their phone at all and is running straight out of the box......
I will update as the time goes on with my stock device........
Los one time while on stock in about two weeks. Rooted and started having los every day sometimes multiple times in one day.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Not once on the wife's epic touch 100% stock.
When I had preroot kernel i had los atleast once a day, especially transition wifi to 3g, and it stayed los until I rebooted
But since I Odined stock pulled kernel, I have not seen any los, if there was it may came back to life by itself idk.
When I got my first phone, I rushed to root it with Zedomax's method.
It was horrible. I got LOS 4-5 times a day!
I can not understand why some people think LOS (loss of signal) is acceptable at all!
I tried to switch back to a stock rom, but I was still getting LOS.
I went back to Sprint, and got a new phone.
On my second phone, that is completely stock, I have NEVER had LOS.
I can ALWAYS make and receive a phone call. (which is why I have a cell phone!)
It is very hard for me to now believe that rooting is not the cause of LOS, or at least making it MUCH worse.
I wish there was a reliable way to root my phone and not get the LOS problem that seems to plague ALL of the rooting methods out there right now. (I have read all of the threads).
I would love to root my phone to get the free wifi. That's really all I care about right now.
Any ideas as to what may work?
Thanks!
Stock since purchased 3 weeks ago. No LOS at all. Was debating about rooting so I could get tether and setcpu but everyone's getting LOS with root. Maybe it's the code that's messing it up? Would very much like to root but I don't want LOS...
I have crawrj stock with root. I hae not had LOS.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I rooted about a week ago. Prior to that i had about one complete los per day (the signal bars turned into a circle). Reboot turned it back on.
Since i have been rooted, i have had no los

What have you rooted with Keith?
When i first got my phone i investigated these forums and decided to not root because of all the reports of los. Then I got my first LOS, on a never changed, never even plugged into a computer, 100% stock phone. After that I just decided to root. Using the deodexed rooted tar, which doesn't touch the kernel, i have not had a LOS since. That means my phone had 1 LOS before I did anything to it, nothing on deodexed, my wifes completely stock has had 0 LOS. It will happen to untouched phones out of the box, I had it happen to me.

flash clockworkmod with odin, do full nandroid backup, root... if something happens, restore the backup and you're back to square 1

Hi frifox,
If you mean this method -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287776
You are still installing a custom kernel (but close to stock) with clockworkmod installed in it.
When you restore, you wouldn't be going back to square 1, you would be going back to square 2 which is a non-stock kernel.
Some of us want to stay stock, but do want root.
Thanks

I flashed with one of the root but no-kernel mods from the Dev forum. No LOS ever while stock, still no LOS to-date with root. It seems like the increase is LOS is tied to the custom kernels, possibly CWM.

First Android phone, so I still getting up to speed so hoping someone could answer a couple quick questions. I'll start with the questions and then give the history.
1) How do you determine what ROM you have installed?
2) Any ideas why 4G won't connect? Is there any way to troubleshoot this?
3) Is there anyway to tether on 4G?
So I dove right in after purchasing this phone and flashed a ROM (Zedomax) so I could tether. After installing this ROM my battery life went down the drain and it wouldn't hold a charge for more than 6 hours.
So then I flashed the EG30 stock kernel and my battery life returned to normal. Still wanting to tether I tried another ROM (don't remember which one). This ROM had the same battery issues so I once again flashed the stock kernel back to my phone.
So now my battery life is great, but 4g won't connect (i'm in NYC) for a few days now. I've tried pulling battery, want what not to no success.
I believe I am running the stock kernel, but to my surprise I still have root access. No triangle on the home screen and ODIN says I'm using the Samsung Official binary.
Just to clarify, you are flashing kernels, not ROMs. Zedomax is a kernel, EG30 is a kernel, etc. You can find your current kernel version under Settings > About phone > Kernel version.
Also as an FYI, I wouldn't be going all willy nilly flashing kernels that you can't remember the name of. I'd have to imagine that's a good way to possibly brick your phone or have problems like you are with 4G.
I'm no expert on this stuff by any means but I'd probably recommend flashing Bubby's stock kernel or chris41g's version of it that is packaged up with CWM. These will get you back to the stock kernel (assuming you're not there already) and probably get your 4G working. Otherwise you probably need to update your PRL or something along those lines. Someone who actually knows more about this stuff (i.e. not me) may have a better suggestion for you.
Thanks.
Kernel version is 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
Is that stock?

Yep! 10 char
Cool.
So flashing to chris41g's or Bubby's kernels probably won't help me. I'll go searching to figure out how to update my PRL but if anyone has any other ideas I'd be grateful.
Also does anyone know if it is possible to tether over 4G? I was never able to connect unless I turned off 4g before tethering.
It is working again. I started over and flashed Stock-EG30.tar and all is good now.
Out of curiosity did you update your system profile after you flashed? I think it's recommended to do that every time you flash a new kernel.
Settings > About phone > System updates then choose update profile.
Edit - Ahh cool looks like you got it worked out. Cheers!
Nope, I never updated my system profile. That could of been a fix....
Interestingly enough, I was retracing my steps after going stock, after each step I checked 4G connectivity. I lost 4G after enabling AdAway. So I disabled (each change requires a reboot) and got 4G back after the boot. I enabled it again hoping to be able to isolate the issue but after that next reboot I got 4G access with AdAway enabled.
Can't say it is AdAway, but after toggling it, I got 4G back.
My phone has been having issues with random rebooting and I can't figure out why. I've tried everything and none of it works so I am thinking about taking it back to Verizon. I really don't feel like completely setting it back to stock. Do you think if I just flashed a stock OTA ROM I would be fine?
As long as you don't have a custom splash screen or the superuser apk or titanium backup, I doubt they'd suspect anything.

Hello everyone,
Couple of days ago I upgraded my E4GT to Calkulin's 1.3a (from a previous version). Since then, I noticed the phone reboots on its own at least once a day and sometimes I miss calls (this might be Sprint's fault though).
This is what I have installed right now:
Code:
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: S:D710.10 S.EL29
Kernel version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FC24-CL287574 [email protected] #3
Build number: Calkulins.E4GT.2.ROM.v1.3a
Hardware version: D710.10
The reason my baseband is EL29 is because I read somewhere that newer versions do not support GPS as of yet.
Can someone show me the way please?
Thank you very much
I'm on 1.3a and have super fast gps. I'm on all fc24 stock. No reboots or any issues. The gps can be fixed in several ways. I ran Faster fix and GPS Fix. Now it lock before map is even loaded. The reboot issue can usually be fixed by a good clean install.

What version did you flash from? I have not had any problems with the random reboots. I have been flashing every tweaked calk rom since fc05. They don't even require format to get up and running.
The only problem I've encountered is that I lost GPS on fc24. I had to use the old "go back to el29 gb for a lock and restore my nandroid backup" trick to get it back.
Did you try the format all and clearing cache?
If you flashed the rom from GB to ICS, then you must make the clean install (using Calk's format all tool). Otherwise, you will experienced the many issues that no one is going to help you because you did not follow the instruction.
I had the same issue after going from 1.3 to 1.3a. No wipe or resets helped. Just went back to el29 like usual and flashed 1.3a again it was fine.

Not so true I've been flashing every ICS leaks and I always make a clean install and I"m in the same boat as him so I did some testing and I found out that when I have 4G on ( in which I always do ) that's when my phone reboot at least 3 or 4 times during the day. Now on 3G it NEVER reboot so I d/l the Calk 1.3a again with clean install and flashed it and I still have the same problem.
Something to this as the reboots were significantly worse when I was on 4g, though not exclusively. The reboots were bad enough on my phone while on ics that am now back to 2.8.1

I can confirm that reboots occur only on 4g

Having the same random reboots. Always do full wipe with calks format all. Tried several different modems and versions.
Sorry guys, after some testing I noticed that only when I leave 4G on do the reboots occurr. I have turned off 4G and it has been going for over 24 hours without reboots. I never use 4G but I felt like using my "unlimited" Sprint data plan so I started to use 4G and then I noticed the reboots.
I have gone from GB to ICS without a clean install, which I believe is the reason why I have the EL29 in my specs.
Seeing as how this version has "a" in the name, I am blaming this on the alpha release.
Hopefully it will get addressed by Calk (who is the man, btw).
Thank you!
I updated phone by going to settings/about phone/system updates and ran the updates and havent noticed any reboots since. But this is at home where I get intermittent 4g so I will know for sure if its fixed when I'm at work tomorrow.
tyler2time: thanks for the info, I just updated Profile and PRL (but Firmware and Android were up-to-date already). I will test this out throughout the day tomorrow and report back.

The EL29 Baseband is the modem you are using. It does not change when you flash a new Rom. You can flash any modem you want to try but they have to be flashed separately. The a in the 1.3a build is because in v1.3, Calkulin accidentally used the FC22 kernel. He uploaded the Rom again with the FC24 kernel and renamed it to 1.3a. I consider every one of these leaks Alpha builds since they are built for testing purposes. Thanks for posting your results.
Hi DataHawg,
Thank you for the info. I found out that the modem is updated independently of the ROM. I am planning to do a format_all and re-install with latest modem, hopefully that will be more stable.
Another strange thing happened: I went to sleep with phone battery at 46% and woke up today with a dead phone. I saw that battery was drained somehow. I don't leave apps/services running except for a few (dropbox, box.net, facebook, twitter).
I will report how the new upgrade goes.
Thank you again, you guys are doing a helluva job here!
Today I read in the original Calkulin thread that modems used in ICS all have trouble with 4G data reboots, so I guess it's a known issue.
But now I'm having another issue with HTC_IME mod crashing. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
EDIT: Found the problem to be text prediction. I turned it off in the HTC_IME mod settings and all works fine now, no crashes so far. Thank you everyone!
This is my first time dealing with LG in my rooting career.
I got my OGP Home and rooted it quickly and easily and flashed Slimkat 4.2.2. I had constant issues with dropping and losing signal. Convinced that it was an issue with KitKat, I flashed Vanir 4.2.1 and the modem that was suggested. This resulted in me COMPLETELY losing mobile data.
I called AT&T and they worked fixed some IMEI issues that I had, but it still didn't fix my mobile data. I decided that I would just restore from backup to the original Slimkat that at least worked most of the time.
I flashed back to slimkat and had no signal issues (so I am assuming that whatever the AT&T rep did to my account fixed the issue to slimkat)
I took the opportunity to reflash Vanir, and lost data services again. So I restored yet another time to slimkat, and my data worked again.
After all this I was so digusted that I unrooted and flashed back to stock last night and updated the firmware and broke the ability to re-root for now.
I like this phone, but I am considering switching back to Samsung.
Does anyone know what could have caused all of these issues with LG. Is this a common issue?
Similar issues have been reported on almost all ROMS, from lost service, no GPS to no working sensors. Until a proper bootloader unlock is discovered/developed, these problems will persist. I'm running G2 V5 right now, seems to be the most stable but not KitKat though.
I flashed CyanogenMod and it seems to be doing well. It's important to back up your efc and restore it if you have issues. I thought I was seasoned on this stuff, but this phone made me feel like a novice

I did some searching, and found other people having issues with their Galaxy S3 rebooting randomly, but they were having that issue with CM 11. Since I'm still on 10.2, though, the methods that they suggest (mainly installing the updated gapps for CM 11) won't work.
Heres's the background info:
I'm on Sprint, and have been having issues with LTE reception ever since I switched from Touch Wiz to CM back in October. The issue started a couple weeks ago when I found out that the MK3 modem was available. I was still on MD4, and having issues with LTE reception, I thought this new modem would help. I downloaded an install zip file I found on this site and used CWM to install it. That same day I also found out about an updated apns-config.xml file that had helped out other people that used Sprint/Ting with LTE reception. I found that file here (I'm still considerd a new user, so replace _ with a period):
help_ting_com/entries/23423026
The install zip that I downloaded from that site didn't work, so I backed up the original apns-config.xml, and manually replaced it with the new one. I had to change permissions on a couple folders in order to replace it, too.
That day is when the random reboots started happening. I've since reverted back to the MD4 modem, and have also reverted to a backup of the old apns-conf.xml. I've also changed the permissions to the system and system/etc folders to what they were before, as well. The random reboots keep happening, though.
Any help would be amazing.

When I 1st flashed a cm11 based rom, I had random reboots. I solved the problem by changing kernel governor from interactive to on demand. I have not had a single reboot in months. All phones are built differently though. I've had mine since they 1st came out.

Thanks. I tried this, and it didn't seem to work. Phone's still randomly rebooting. I'm on 10.2, btw. Haven't moved to 11 yet.

The best way to truly fix your issue is to start back over at square 1... Odin it back to stock with the tar or MD5 file. The last thing you want to do is make things worse trying too many things.
If you can get back into recovery wipe everything, (but not your Sd card ) as long as you've got a Rom on your Sd card to flash. Don't flash the same rom again, your issue could be a number of things.
- If you made a backup before flashing then revert back to it. Then try to download the rom again, or if you can download the latest slimkat on another pc and copy it to your sd card it's small a quick download and it will get you back up and running.
That is, if you don't feel like using Odin.
