Network Vision Summary - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

* Sprint is rolling out CDMA on 800 mHz now. ET4G supports 800 mHz. Better building/basement penetration and coverage.
* Sprint is upgrading backhaul and towers now through 2013. Many towers have already been upgraded.
* Sprint will roll out 1xAdvanced middle of 2012 and sell phones that support that. (ET4G does not support 1xAdvanced, though this won't affect your buying decisions because the only advantage is up to 4x increase in the amount of voice traffic that can be handled.)
* Sprint probably will not roll out Rev. B as it is inefficient compared to LTE.
* Sprint perhaps will not roll out SVDO (simultaneous voice and data) since LTE/CDMA and WiMAX/CDMA runs simultaneously on handsets, giving simultaneous voice and data capabilities, and eventually CDMA/LTE will have equivalent coverage.
* WiMAX devices will be sold through 2012. Even if Clearwire files for bankruptcy, service will continue to operate for years to come.
* WiMAX and LTE will overlap

* When iDEN is decommissioned at the end of 2013, LTE will be activated on 800 mHz.
* LTE will be rolled out on 1900 mHz middle of 2012
* LTE through hosting agreement will be rolled out on Lighsquared 1600 mHz pending FCC approval
* LTE phones will begin to be sold middle of 2012
* People will continue to ***** about the $10 fee
* No comment on if Sprint will buy Clear's 2500 mHz spectrum. Probably depends on how the Lightsquared deal goes.
Please correct any errors I have made, as this was a lot of new information to digest.

Thanks

Meanwhile iphones will eat up the remaining 3G
Thanks for explanation...

Straight Talk + GNex.. coverage?

Hey guys. I just got my GNex up and running and I had a question for those using ST. I am currently running on AT&T post paid.
First off, this picture sucks. It is way too small and hard to tell where coverage is... do you know where I can find a bigger map?? If not, I'll try to get in touch with ST support...

Second, should I be looking at "Android Coverage"? I assume I should since... ya know... it's an android, but it seems like they are calling "non-android" voice only and "android coverage" data + voice. Is this correct? If so, I probably will not be able to use ST because many states I travel in will not have data service (which means no google nav).
On the webpage, if you click on the "bring your own phone" program, you get yet another coverage map which appears to be the "non-android" map above...
Thanks for the help guys.. :good:
the android coverage is sprint coverage. straighttalk does sell android phones that run on sprint's network only.
you should look at the map on the left which uses att's coverage.

Ah, that clears that up. Thanks for that. I assume the coverage is HSPA+? I'm not expecting LTE (especially with my non-LTE GSM GNex..).
its whatever att has in the area you are in.

N7100 vs N7105 HSDPA+

I am not sure if I misread something last time that HSDPA+ on N7100 is slower than that on the N7105 ? Is this true? I can't seem to find info on google...
I believe it's called DC-HSPA+ Here's evidence from my device:

And if you're from the UK, hardly anywhere has LTE signal yet. Ridiculously over-priced, capped data. Three(3)s DC-HSDPA+ network is incredible like the guy says above this post. I strongly recommend it. I regularly get 8Mbs which is faster than many home broadband connections....
Don't be sold by adverts - do your research and save yourself a lot of money
yeah I bought an N7105 from orange network... £499 it comes with a free decent headphone... then I unlocked it and now using 3UK with unlimited internet... the signal is all over the place though, and I used to get a maximum 6mbps... but after I upgraded to 4.1.2, the data download went up to as high as 12mbps but its sporadic... still observing everything for now
edit: I bought the LTE version for future proofing, as I intend to keep the phone for at least 3 years...... that is if I don't get "upgrade-itis" because I am a sufferer...
I also have the 7105 LTE. Without LTE activated, my speed earlier today was:
That was my fastest to date with any device (Dell Venue, several different Blackberries, Samsung Jack, and Galaxy S III).

Yes, it's true. The N7105 supports 42Mbps Dual Carrier HSPA+ (As well as LTE), whereas the N7100 only supports HSPA+ up to 21Mbps.

I9195 AT&T LTE Connectivity

I have an I9195 with stock XXUAMG8 on AT&T carrier. My phone will not connect to LTE, only H+. I had the AT&T store reset my APN for the LTE network, but still no connection.
Has anyone else had any issues connecting to AT&T LTE?

I don't have this phone... but was looking at getting it.
AT&T uses bands 700 & 1700 for LTE
according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Americas
The I9195 doesn't support those bands according to this:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/android/GT-I9195ZKABTU-spec
which sucks cuz i kinda wanted the phone
Here are the specs from my box.
Compare them with the AT&T Galaxy S4 specs. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I337ZRAATT-specs
And that still does not answer the question. Because 700mhz and 1700mhz are not Band 7 and 17. So doubtful that LTE will work in US, but it is still a great device in an S2 sized package.
As far as I can tell, this is the Band/Mhz translation.
Band = Mhz
1 = 2100
3 = 1800
5 = 850
7 = 2600
8 = 900
20 = 800
For AT&T you will need ....4 = 1700....17 = 700
Hey OP, thanks for answering your own question :good:

AT&T H931 gets fake 5G icon

New January update adds fake 5G icon to AT&T H931 V30 -- to fool customers into thinking they have a 5G phone. It's the HSPA "4G" scam all over again, which AT&T and T-Mobile perpetuated on their users.

Yeah, so you can brag about your fake "5G" to all your friends.
In other countries, 4G icon means 4G. And 4G means LTE. LTE is the only 4G currently available widespread (rest in peace Wi-Max). Only in the U.S. do people refer to HSPSA as "4G" -- which is due to marketing lies from AT&T and T-mobile because they had not deployed LTE nationwide yet like Verizon had done. HSPA+ is 3G on steroids, but is NOT 4G. Which forced Verizon to then call theirs "4G LTE". That's like saying I drive a "car automobile". It's redundant. 4G = LTE.
In other countries, carriers were not allowed to lie like that, and their 4G icons simply meant they had LTE... There was no need to say "LTE" -- it simply said "4G". Whereas, HSPA was indicated by "H" as it's not 4G! There was no confusion, because it was the truth.
Now, AT&T is trying the same thing all over again with 5G.

LTE Speed

Hello guys. I have the 64GB/4GB variant of this phone and I think there is an issue regarding the LTE Speed. GSMArena says that the phone supports LTE-A (2CA) Cat6 300/50 Mbps. My operator is Cosmote Greece which provides LTE-A (4G+) speeds but my phone seems to be getting only the "simple" 4G speeds, meaning up to 100/50 Mbps. I have verified it through the engineering mode of the phone (*#*#4636#*#*) where the results are in the screenshot below. Has anyone with our phone achived higher speeds than 100 Mbps? (In multiple speedtests, I never got over 50 Mbps while other phones get 120+ Mbps). Thanks!
