New January update adds fake 5G icon to AT&T H931 V30 -- to fool customers into thinking they have a 5G phone. It's the HSPA "4G" scam all over again, which AT&T and T-Mobile perpetuated on their users.

OMG I totally need to 'upgrade' to an at&t v30 now

Yeah, so you can brag about your fake "5G" to all your friends.
In other countries, 4G icon means 4G. And 4G means LTE. LTE is the only 4G currently available widespread (rest in peace Wi-Max). Only in the U.S. do people refer to HSPSA as "4G" -- which is due to marketing lies from AT&T and T-mobile because they had not deployed LTE nationwide yet like Verizon had done. HSPA+ is 3G on steroids, but is NOT 4G. Which forced Verizon to then call theirs "4G LTE". That's like saying I drive a "car automobile". It's redundant. 4G = LTE.
In other countries, carriers were not allowed to lie like that, and their 4G icons simply meant they had LTE... There was no need to say "LTE" -- it simply said "4G". Whereas, HSPA was indicated by "H" as it's not 4G! There was no confusion, because it was the truth.
Now, AT&T is trying the same thing all over again with 5G.

Hey guys. I just got my GNex up and running and I had a question for those using ST. I am currently running on AT&T post paid.
First off, this picture sucks. It is way too small and hard to tell where coverage is... do you know where I can find a bigger map?? If not, I'll try to get in touch with ST support...

Second, should I be looking at "Android Coverage"? I assume I should since... ya know... it's an android, but it seems like they are calling "non-android" voice only and "android coverage" data + voice. Is this correct? If so, I probably will not be able to use ST because many states I travel in will not have data service (which means no google nav).
On the webpage, if you click on the "bring your own phone" program, you get yet another coverage map which appears to be the "non-android" map above...
Thanks for the help guys.. :good:
the android coverage is sprint coverage. straighttalk does sell android phones that run on sprint's network only.
you should look at the map on the left which uses att's coverage.

Ah, that clears that up. Thanks for that. I assume the coverage is HSPA+? I'm not expecting LTE (especially with my non-LTE GSM GNex..).
its whatever att has in the area you are in.

Good deal.
I am not sure if I misread something last time that HSDPA+ on N7100 is slower than that on the N7105 ? Is this true? I can't seem to find info on google...
I believe it's called DC-HSPA+ Here's evidence from my device:

And if you're from the UK, hardly anywhere has LTE signal yet. Ridiculously over-priced, capped data. Three(3)s DC-HSDPA+ network is incredible like the guy says above this post. I strongly recommend it. I regularly get 8Mbs which is faster than many home broadband connections....
Don't be sold by adverts - do your research and save yourself a lot of money
yeah I bought an N7105 from orange network... £499 it comes with a free decent headphone... then I unlocked it and now using 3UK with unlimited internet... the signal is all over the place though, and I used to get a maximum 6mbps... but after I upgraded to 4.1.2, the data download went up to as high as 12mbps but its sporadic... still observing everything for now
edit: I bought the LTE version for future proofing, as I intend to keep the phone for at least 3 years...... that is if I don't get "upgrade-itis" because I am a sufferer...
I also have the 7105 LTE. Without LTE activated, my speed earlier today was:
That was my fastest to date with any device (Dell Venue, several different Blackberries, Samsung Jack, and Galaxy S III).

Yes, it's true. The N7105 supports 42Mbps Dual Carrier HSPA+ (As well as LTE), whereas the N7100 only supports HSPA+ up to 21Mbps.

Has anyone noticed their FI SIM roam when off of sprint and t-mobile coverage?
I have a Nexus 6, 6p and 5x. When my FI SIM is in the 6P and N6 and I'm in sprint mode/CDMA mode and there is no sprint coverage I have noticed that talk/text and 3g data work just fine on both the VZW and the US Cellular networks.
Also when in T-Mobile mode/ GSM mode and there is no T-Mobile coverage, both talk/text and LTE/HSPA/Edge data work just fine on AT&T. Also if on AT&T I actually have mobile data while on a phone call!!!??
But on my 5x I have no roaming at all doesn't matter what I do. It will not work at all on any network except Sprint and T-mobile.
All 3 of the phones have been tried on various ROMS and kernels and that don't seem to make a difference. Currently on Chroma/Franco on all 3.
I use FI Switch by @dwithereIl and Signal Check PRO to switch between CDMA and GSM mode and to know what provider I am currently on.
What has been you experience?

No Project FI users with the 5x??
I don't have an answer for you, but you might want to ask this question on Reddit, at the Project Fi subreddit and get the Reddit hive mind working for you. You'll need to make a user ID to post questions, but you can search the subreddit as a lurker and you might dig up the answer you seek.
I have yet to be in an area where I don't have sprint and t-mobile coverage, so have yet to see my 5x roam. I have seen it switch between the two networks between home and the office. I'll be traveling to in a couple weeks, so I'll see what happens then.
I have had my sprint LG G5 domestically unlocked officially by sprint. Calls work with a tmobile or att sim so it is definitely unlocked.
I cannot for the life of me get data to work. The only options I have in "network mode" are Automatic, LTE/CDMA, CDMA and GSM/UTMS. I've tried Automatic and I've tried GSM/UTMS. I have LTE roaming enabled. All LTE bands including bands 2, 4 and 12 enabled. All verified in ##DATA# I've tried switching band priority to 2, 4 and 12 but that didn't help.
LTE discovery picked up LTE band 12 for a split second once but usually it just connects to UTMS and no data on UTMS. This is in an area with great coverage. It says it isn't roaming so maybe that is an issue since the lte bands on the G5 seem to be categorized as roaming lte bands. But not sure why I wouldn't get UTMS data.
APNs are correct.
Anyone any ideas?? Is this phone just crippled for use in the USA?? Do I have to resort to the software hack method to unlock it with hiddencallmenu?

Like I said I had it officially unlocked.
I did figure out that I needed to set the APN to default and authentification to none. Works now. Thank you.
Are you still using this device?
If you are, I am curious how things are working. Are all of the voice and data features working properly? I may switch to T-Mobile from Sprint later this month. Thank you.
Anyone have any luck getting verizon 5g to work? I saw some reports online about it now working on their 5g network. However i popped in my verizon 5g sim and while yes the phone did work i didnt see anything more than lte+ icon. Is this considered 5g? Or just a beefed up 4g? I chatted with verizon and they advised me to call tech support and speak to the network dept so that a ticket is placed on my account for it to be looked into. I guess I'll have to call tomorrow unless someone here has any tips or tricks? It being a new phone I don't expect any lol!
Dumb question, but do you know if you're in a 5G area?
I plan to pop in my Verizon SIM once I switch most of my stuff over tomorrow or the next day.

NYC Yes, I have an iPhone 12 Pro running 5g. Can you post up here if yours runs 5g out the box?
Mine runs 5g out of the box but it's no better than lte due to the fact it's dss. I just disabled it and set it to lte.
I just did the update and boom the 5g works now. LoL. Thanks.
I hit Visible (Verizon) 5G today in downtown St Paul, MN. I didn't pick it up at my house in the suburbs though.
On verizon 5G you'll see 5G above your signal, like shown in this screen shot.

Mine has the basic 5G, but the mm5G (Ultra) is only in select areas. I'm in Orange County, CA, and the Ultra is not available here.
Mine picks up the midband 5G but I'll probably never see mmwave in my area.
Mine sees Verizon 5g no problem.
