Hi everybody,
I like other people have had memory limitation issues with my HTC Desire.
Done everything including root, s-off, partitioned sd card.I am now trying to upgrade to CM 7.1, the final step hopefully!!!
Note:I am currently using stock 2.3.3
Currently have CM 7.1 downloaded on computer and going to install....BUT every instruction I see requires me to have rom manager/ clockworkmod recovery. However, I can't install these because ''this app can't be installed in your country''. unfortunately used to this.
So does anyone by chance have any links to instructions or have instructions of how I can install this without downloading any apps, hopefully an idiot proof version.(Not worried about saving a recovery etc....phone is basically blank.)
Thanks in advance for any help.
Kind Regards,
rkdeane
Put it on your SD card. Flash from recovery. See the CM wiki.
Recovery has nothing to do with Market.

So i looked on CM wiki but it wasn't clear to me.I have c/pasted what i saw below.
-By theme to they mean rom, bc didn't see any rom instructions.
-When it says copy to the root of my sd card, can i just copy the zip from my desktop to the sd card via windows, how do they mean the root of it??
-#4 , how do you flash. i see a flash image on the wiki, must i downlaod/install this??
Just double checking befor ei go experimenting and mess up soemthing.
Obviously a complete noob, but learning everyday, any help is much appreciated. thanks for the help so far guys.

from wiki:
1.Perform a Nandroid Backup before flashing any theme.
2.Download a theme you like. Check the forums.
3.Copy the zipped theme file to the root of your SD card.
4.Flash it like you would any other .zip file.
from how to use recover (wiki):
HTC Desire (GSM) Hold Volume Down and the Power button, then use Volume Down to highlight "bootloader" and press the Power button to select it. Once in the bootloader, use Volume Down to select "recovery" and press the Power button to select.

Ok so tried to insta.
Did the following:
1)hboot
2)went into recovery
3)install .zip in sd card
it went into unrevoked and i selected the file and installed.
everything finished then exited.
but now all i get is a screen with cyanogen android guy on skateboard and and arrow going in circles around hope....looks like a screen saver that refreshed like every 5 seconds......so what do i do now????? seems soemhting did not go as planned.
Did you wipe? Read what I said last post
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
no did not wipe....have nothing installed on phone....and i cleared everything off of sd card before i put on the cm 7.1 zip...
unfortunately your post came acouple mins after i attempted !! as luck would have it.
goign through your faq's now to see if i can sort it out.....
cant get passed the screen saver....but i can get into hboot/recovery
i see your wipe comment below:
should i let it run for 10 mins?? i let it run for like 2 and figured it was just stuck.
should i do a factory reset....will that undo all my rooting and partitioning that i have done???
also can cm7.1 work with an ext4 partition??? which is what i have.
the gparted advice was excellent as well.
what is all this about wiping? Do I need to?
Maybe. If you go from one stock ROM to a custom ROM, or one Custom ROM to another, the settings may not be compatible. You can wipe from ClockworkMod Recovery. - Wipe data/factory reset.
If the ROM is stuck in a boot loop for more that 10 minutes, you may have to back to recovery and do a wipe of the Data partition
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Yes you must factory reset. It won't affect root or anything. It just wipes the data partition
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thanks rootSU,
I wiped/ factory reset it in recovery mode. next tiem i started it BOOTED INTO CM 7.1....though it seems to take its sweet time. doesn't recognize sim, but think i founds some pages to help deal with that......moving in the right direction
Thanks!

Ok, so I see a lot of guys who are new here and aren't adept with the flashing and rooting process and we're having too many threads based on it and the errors they keep getting. It's nothing wrong to not know certain things but only if the search function was used a bit more.
A few things you should keep in mind :
1> I know no one reads disclaimers anyways but don't blame me if you do something wrong. Follow the steps, they are easy and you're good to go
2> PM me with info, suggestions and tips to improve on this thread if I have missed out certain things. I want this to serve as a basic thread for newbies wanting to install CM7 so we don't clutter the General's with too many threads.

Backup contacts and messages and all other data that is important for you. There are many apps that can do that - Eg. Backup Master, Mobile Backup II, APN Backup and Restore, Backup to Gmail.
Here is a guide for you guys to install and flash the latest version of CM7 on your Wildfire S devices.
1> Bootloader Unlock
a) You can get an S-off using the XTC Clip. What's S-off? It's like a security lock. It could be in the on or off state. An 'S-off' allows you to modify almost everything on your phone. It's pretty costly in many parts so you can try the solution below (it's free)
OR
b) HTCDev method
The first step regarding Bootloader unlock is very important. Unless you do that, don't go forward on this. Here's a beautiful tutorial on how that's to be done.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432199
2> Root & Recovery
Root will allow you to get Superuser permissions on your device. Didn't get it? Well, it's just like administrator privileges. It's basically just a one click solution so that's pretty easy
2a) Root the phone via this crazy one-click software:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436426
2b) Once you're done rooting, you must have the app Superuser now. It's time to install CWM now.
1.Go to Google Play (Market)
2.Download and install ROM Manager
3.Open, click on Flash CWM.
4.Select Wildfire S
5.Let it do it's thing, click YES when it asks for SuperUser permissions
6.You should get a message that it's done successfully.
3> Download CM7 & Gapps
So we're getting at the heart of the tutorial now.
Download the latest nightly or stable build of CM7. There are a few ROM's but I'd personally recommend Alquez's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226765
Download the lastest version of Gapps so you can get Market running from here
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
4>Place files on the SD card
So you now have 2 zip files with you. The CM7 zip file (around 90MB) and the Gapps zip file (around 6MB). Put both of these files on the SD card. Don't create folders, just place it in the root of your SD card.
5> Get into recovery
Turn off your phone. Now, this is the important part.
Press the Power + Volume Down button simultaneously. (if you can't get it working, disable fastboot under settings)
You'll see the white bootloader screen and something will happen for about 5 seconds (don't worry, you haven't bricked your phone ). It's just a normal P76img.zip search. After that is done, select the "Recovery" option using the volume down button and then pressing the power button.
6> Nandroid backup
Nandroid is by far the safest way. will hopefully get people in a good habit of using them!
nandroid is a backup of the exact state of your phone: apps, data, contacts, messages. it can be restored just in case anything goes wrong, and should always be used for flashing critical things like a new rom.
1. Go into cwm recovery. (Actually, you are in CWM recovery if you've done it correctly )
2. Select 'backup/restore' using volume keys and select with POWER button.
3. select backup
The back up will start, and will take around 5-10 minutes to complete
4. Once it is done, it will go back to the main cwm menu.
Backups are stored on SD card in clockworkmod/backup, and can be moved/copied to PC for ultimate safekeeping.
7> Wipe stuff
Congratulations, if you made it this far in one go
Easy stuff now.
Toggle using volume buttons and 'factory reset'.
Then 'wipe cache'.
Then go into advanced and 'wipe dalvik cache' and 'battery stats'.
8> Installing CM7
Now select 'install zip from SD card'.
Then select 'choose zip'.
Then select the CM7 zip file that you had placed on the root of your SD
Select 'YES' obviously
Let it do it's thing for about 4-5 minutes.
Once it is done, follow the same process as above but select the other zip file, that is the gapps zip file. Okay okay, I'll type it again
Now select 'install zip from SD card'.
Then select 'choose zip'.
Then select the Gapps zip file that you had placed on the root of your SD
Select 'YES' .
Then, go back. Reboot. Have a heart in mouth moment and then watch the CM7 logo show up in a few minutes. You've done it successfully. Congratulations

I want to leave a note.
If no matter what you do, some or all Google apps do not appear even though the flash has been reported as successful, try re-downloading the Gapps archive.
this looks good, particularly the clear layout
however i personally think that:
6> Nandroid backup
you've briefly covered backing up stuff earlier, but nandroid is by far the safest way. will hopefully get people in a good habit of using them!
you could put a note saying that nandroid is a backup of the exact state of your phone: apps, data, contacts, messages. it can be restored just in case anything goes wrong, and should always be used for flashing critical things like a new rom.
if you really wanted, this guide is actually not too far from being a generic guide to installing any custom rom. except that some need an sd card partitions (gparted recommended), so you would have an optional step 2a or something. maybe too complicated, just a thought, but good post so far!
EDIT : Added Backup part as well now.
Nice, just one thing, there is no need to reboot before wiping anything.they'll end up back in recovery anyway to flash a new ROM.
you could put a note saying that backups are stored on SD card in clockworkmod/backup, and can be moved/copied to PC for ultimate safekeeping.
This guide could become a stickie, just hope ppl use ur guide now...

hello everyone!
hardikrajgor123, thanks for a wonderful tutorial and links you provided. everything worked well for me, but i have one question.
i have a confirmation from htcdev method that my device is unlocked and i did install cyanogenmod (it works perfectly). my only problem is that my phone is still s-on and i cannot delete stack apps.
the way which appeared on one of the links (download root.zip, put it on sd card, run it on cwm) didn't work out for me.
anyone has any suggestions how to solve this?
thanks

Did SuperUser install on your phone? If you have root permissions, you can use Titanium backup and remove stock apps. If you're sure the root zip didn't work properly, try doing it again. Follow that tutorial carefully

Hello, thnaks for nice tutorial. Now i got stuck at installing CWM. I have S-ON and I've just unlocked bootloader via htcdev. Everything went fine, but when i want to flash clockwork mod recovery, it says: "Main version is older!".
I've tried all CWMs I could find here, but it does that with all of them.
I have:

edit: Just to be sure, most recent version of CWM I found here is 5.0.2.6 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229)
So do I have to wait for new version of CWM or is there some way around? Thanks in advance!

Could you root successfully? There has to be superuser app when you restart rom. If you rooted successfully, download ROM Manager from Market.
Open app, Flash CWM. Select Wildfire S. BAM! CWM is installed, that is, the latest version 5.0.28
Delete the P76IMG.zip from SD Card then. Check if you can enter recovery.

No I couldn't. Acording to rooting tutorial, I need CWM first, and then launch rooting script in CWM. Now I noticed, there is some one-click software, but it requires S-OFF. I'm stil S-ON, just unlocked, will that work?

Update: So the super-simple one-click app realy rooted the phone (which really made me laugh ). So thanks for pointing me that direction!

I have s-off and running a nightly rom from a few weeks ago, I partitioned my SD sd card and installed app 2 SD or data to sd and hav loads of storage which I was after.
If I want to keep my apps, data and and current SD card partition option what do I need to do in ordered to update nightly Rom's on a regular basis
Oh I'm rooted , Titanium Backup, rom manager and flash recovery in place.
I'm hoping its just load zip in root of sd card and flash through rom manager, is it that easy ?
Hope u can assist.

Oh wish I'd had this info prior to do it blind for the first time, got it working tho.
So I finally managed to get CM7 working, maybe I can help you with updating this tutorial, as some things don't work anymore with newest firmware...
Steps, which worked for me, at start I had S-ON and 2.13.401.2:
1) Somehow get 2.13.401.3 (which is only one supported by htcdev). Some say, that OTA update worked for them (classic update via menu in phone). It didn't worked for me, so I used RUU update from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445
2) Then htcdev unlock thing work fine, as you write in your tutorial.
3) Rooting was quite different, because current version of CWM can't be flashed via HBOOT, as it's version is too old.
So new rooting and recovery method, which is actually much more simple and work:
3a) Root the phone via this crazy one-click software: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436426
(I still can't believe, that it was that easy )
3b) Restart phone, then go to market and download ROM Manager
3c) In ROM Manager, click the first item: Flash Clockwork Mod. It will do it's thing, and It's done. You have root and CWM installed, without even going to HBOOT. Cool right?
4, ...) The rest is same, as in tutorial on first page, so continue with step 3> there... (don't forget to backup all the time )
Hope, that will help...

1. Download the newest cm7 you want to flash.
2. Boot into recovery. (you can do this through rom manager but it is easier and better to do all things through recovery)
3. Wipe cache partition and dalvik cache ( dalvik is under the advanced tab)
4. Install zip from sd card/choose zip from sd. File should be in the folder marked download.
5. Choose the cm7 file and install.
6. Reboot
7. Flash Data2Sd Reinstaller from Recovery (you can find it in mindhacker's thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432259
8. Reboot
Always backup though, this process is tricky. Works for some, not for others

Need some help here,
I recently followed these instructions, then somehow, all my contacts on my sim were wiped. Now, I can't even add contacts and put them on sim. Any help? I can call and text just fine though.
Hello
Before i start, just like to say that I spent almost two days to read almost all posts related to my phone, but still feel I need your help.
Ok then:
I own an HTC Desire and recently asked an informatic friend to root my phone, mainly for two reasons:
- In order to install more applications, since it was always with the notification of "low memory space" and still had lots of applications to install and,
- To be able to customize, since I see many colleagues with images and icons very beautiful and I'd like to have that
After the root done, my friend installed the ROM CyanogenMod 7.0.1
I was very happy the phone came to my hands, but even before i start to install the applications i noticed that only had about 70MB free space, and then after installing some, quickly came to 30Mb, even using the App2SD. Frankly it seems to me that this program is working exactly the same way it was before the root. One part goes to the SD but another part is the internal memory. I thought with the root, the entire application would go to the SD.
I also noticed that either the cache or system applications were also in the internal memory and not in SD. So i suspect that something is lacking because something is not right.
Another question I have, and probably can be related, is that applications that came in were the Rom Manager and Superuser. However, if you open the Superuser does not appear nothing, not on the page of the application or the registration page. Do not know if it's normal.
As for the rom manager, any action that I want to do such as Install Rom from SD card, or Download Rom or Check for Rom Updates, or Partition SD Card always shows me the message "You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before continuing. Install the Recovery Manager through Rom first " followed by the option Install or Cancel. Has im not an expert, i decided not to install and listen to your help first. What is wrong? what should I do?
I hope you understand me (sorry for my English but im from Portugal) and i wait you can help me.
Thanks
FDinis
1. Search for SD partition guide, a2sd/a2sd+/data2ext guide, Hboot flashing guide, recovery flashing guide, rom flashing guide (in no particular order, get them all), learn and figure out what these are. So before you take a step, you know the risk.
2. Maybe your Desire got RMD Recovery on the recovery partition after rooted. So with your finishing "1." , you should know how to get a ClockworkMod Recovery.
Bad english, hope you know what I try to tell. Learn those and you'll know how to get more ram.
Thank you, but can anyone be more especific?
The rooting process installs Superuser on your phone system partition. Superuser is the app that grants root permissions to other apps. Opening it will just show you which apps have been granted root priveledges which I am guessing are none so far.
Do not use ROM manager with the desire it will cause all kinds of problems. You should already have a custom recovery installed when it was rooted.
To get more space for apps you need to install a ROM that supports A2SD+ (not the same as Froyo A2SD) and partition your sd card. ROMs available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328 There is a guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 Follow steps 5 to 7 (you have done 1 to 4 already). There is another good (perhaps better) guide here http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/220627-faq-apps2sd-updated-17-02-11-a.html and some more general information about rooting here http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/503471-desire-all-things-root-guide.html
Alternatively you could change the phone internal partitions in conjunction with an appropriate ROM but that is more complicated.
I hope this helps.

How can i know that?!
Shut down phone, then hold vol down and press power - this will take you to bootloader screen. Navigate using vol up/down to Recovery and press power to select - this should take you into custom recovery.
Edit: do you know how your mate rooted your phone? Post the details shown on bootloader screen, and what your original hboot version and software version is if you know.

Oh dear, I'll help you move on from this forum.
You have now S-OFF'd your device, meaning you can now manipulate any data that is saved onto your nand (layman's terms: built in) memory.
If you want to do further change, such as changing the operating system on your device, you need to flash a custom recovery. There is a tutorial on my guide on how to do so. Do not ask me which one to flash, remember a recovery is a recovery is a recovery is a recovery - they ALL do the same thing, some may have different features than others.
Once you have flashed recovery backup your ROM.
There are a few different variations of Android, here are A FEW you can choose from, I just picked the first one that picked the criteria.
Sense 2.0/2.1
Sense 3.0/3.5
Stock AOSP Gingerbread
Customised AOSP Gingerbread
MIUI AOSP Gingerbread
AOSP ICS (UNSTABLE)
Once you've decided what ROM you would like to choose, read the forum thread, and find out what HBOOT you need from www.alpharev.io (make sure to check the md5 before flashing, there's a tool that does this for you in resources on my guide). And flash the hboot (tutorial on my guide).
A lot of ROMs also support A2SD. For this you need to have a EXT3 or 4 partition on your sd-card. Use Gparted to make a 1024mb EXT3 or 4 partition on your sd-card. Make sure to back it up beforehand as it will be wiped.
Put the ROM on your sd-card, boot into recovery.
In recovery do a full wipe of boot, system, data, cache and dalvik cache.
Flash the ROM you wanted to use.
reboot.
That's as much help as you'll get from anyone here.
Bortak
Thanks
I'll try to do that, but i'm affraid of doing something wrong due to my (lack of) knowledge.
Well, best way to gain some knowledge is a) to read and b) to try out different things. So please, stop complaining and just do it! Most of us learned how to do things by doing them. And that's also the reason why most newbies get some troll posts when asking things.
This post is not meant to insult you, but just to give some advice. There are very few states where your phone will be totally unusable, so just give it a try.

Thanks

Looks like you haven't got a custom recovery flashed. If you are going to use ClockWorkRecovery then next time when it asks you to flash CMW recovery say Yes and follow the instructions. Personally, I prefer 4EXT recovery (you can search for it in Google play store). But you need a custom recovery on your rooted phone before you can start tinkering with it.

you're rocketing your way to 10 posts very quickly...spreading a little bad advice along the way
- you need to be s-off before you can start tinkering with recovery
- also, he has already been advised correctly not to use ROM manager at all...
1.Just install 4ext app from Google Play
2.Flash with it 4ext recovery, boot into recovery and do a backup of your current rom
4.download the customrom zip of your choice.
3.download the required hboot and flash it.
5.boot from the 4ext app into recovery do a full wipe
6. go to install zip from sd ( if needes toggle veryfication off before)
7.Reboot
8. finish
7.Have fun

If i recall correctly, the timeline i followed was
stock rom
got my self root and custom recovery (clockwork) ( unrevoked.com)
custom rom, on stock hboot
s-off, custom hboot, custom rom with more space for data (alpharev.nl)
so a custom recovery without s-off is possible
Hi, guys. As the title, & I'm looking at my phone.I'm an absolute noobie with this. I know I want to install a new ROM, as the battery life is pooh (one day) & it has a very limited amount of internal memory. The Wildchild lite ROM looks fine, but I've no idea how to proceed. Partition the SD card? How? Then find the ROM & place it there...etc, etc.
I've tried to search the FAQ's but so far no luck.
Anyone got a link, as I'm sure I'm not the first?
Love you guys ('n' gals, no doubt) for the work you do, my last was a HTC Touch & thanks to you lot it worked really well until it went swimming...:crying:
Cheers,
First and foremost...........Unlock your bootloader via HTCdev.com,you will have to create an account there(the instructions there are very easy)
Next up..................rooting your phone,i recommend searching for "Doomlord's easy rooting toolkit" on XDA..run it and you will get root
Next is installing the custom recovery, the easiest way is to download "Rom manager" from the Play Store.....open it and select "Download Clockworkmod recovery" and "Flash clockworkmod recovery"
Finally installing the rom.................for newbies, the best way to do so is via Rom manager..........Remember to backup your current rom in case you wish to revert back
And do remeber to wipe data, wipe dalvik cache before installing a rom
Actualy.
1. Unlock bootloader via htc.dev
2. Download rezo609 wfs tool look it up in the development section
3. Use it to flash cwr.
4. Than flash wildchid ROM I'm
pretty sure it had instructions on how to install it via cwr.
5. Enjoy your new ROM
Keep in mind that these thing can brick your phone and will void the warranty. Also i hold no responsibility if any of these steps lead to your phone's early demise( i always wanted to say that, but srsly take caution and read carefully).

I would say install Link2Sd once rooted. That will solve your memory problem!
Old noobies...
Thanks, folks, much appreciated. I'm sure that this thread will be of use to others. Will let you know how I got on. After I have my coffee, and load up with my glasses & hearing aid.. Don't think I'm joking...:crying:
Thanks to all,
Hi, guys. I eventually managed to get my phone to HTC sync! It's all down to the lack of ROM. After a factory reset, voila!
I'll be trying to flash it with this advice you guys have been kind enough to post.
Again, cheers.

I think Int2Ext+, Data2SD, AD2SDX or scripts like these are better than Link2SD.
Hi there,
today I started with rooting, downgrading and installing a custom ROM on my HTC Desire Z / Vision (not a t-mobile G2)
Everything went fine, except for one crucial thing:
While I can select recovery mode, it just won't proceed into recovery mode. After selecting recovery mode, the screen turns black while displaying a small image of a phone coupled with a red coloured triangle with exclamation mark.
So far that is the same problem as discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15771495
The solution described there is to push simultaneously VOL down + Power button. Then indeed a new screen with blue letter appear, but selecting the given option "apply update.zip from sdcard" won't do the trick. Even though I named the CM 7.2 ROM as such.
It keeps on telling me that verification failed.
So in short, recovery mode does not give me the option of installing zip file from sd card.
As suggested here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130106 I could use an older version. But which one?
Thank you very much in advance! I am out of options and ideas basically.

Re: [Q] Can't select install zip from sd card in recovery mode
Well my guess is you did some silly way to root which did not instruct you to install a custom recovery. You are best to follow the xda wiki to root your phone as you will get true radio soff, a custom recovery, super cid, sim unlocked, an engineering bootloader, and a better understanding of android
The triangle is stock recovery, does you know good, the bootloader you have will not allow for fastboot flashing a new one. If you still have a boot able is you could install the flash image binary, busybox, and su, then use a terminal emulator to flash a custom recovery. But you will be best off downgrading and following the gfree method to exploit your phone

Thank you for your reply.
I sure could have done something wrong, at some points the whole procedure confused me. I tried to stick with the XDA wiki guide, but there are several and all of them were useful at some points. Slowly I am getting to know this whole side of Android more, but slowly.
I actually did all the things you mention, using busybox, su and using the gfree method. But as far as I know I have not used a terminal emulator.
well there is only one guide IN THE WIKI maybe best to just start over with this guide, dont skip any step just ask a question if it confuses you
otherwise strawmetal made a great PDF GUIDE that many say is a lot easier
both methods are the same just stick with one, downgrade fully, use gfree to exploit, flash the engineering hboot and recovery of choice.
if you follow all of this completely, read and understand, it is really very easy and the long term benefits are amazing

Well, I did as you suggested and it did work out in the end. I really appreciate the help you gave me!!
Had a bit of trouble with actually selecting the install zip from sdcard option, as the power button wouldn't have any effect. A bit of google learned that the trackball is the proper button.
Anyway, I just had about half an hour of playtime with the CM 7.2 mod until I opted to reboot it just to see how that would go.
Unfortunately, that brought problems. After booting into the home screen it might work for some time (varies) including using apps and wifi, it will reboot randomly.
Obviously I searched for answers, there is some talk about wiping dalvik cache. So I did that (and partition wipe), and now waiting for and if the next random reboot takes place.
Edit: unfortunately, the random reboot did take place. Is it best to reinstall CM7.2 but prior to that data wipe? And after it a dalvik wipe, or should I go to 7.1?
Yeah you should always wipe everything clean prior to flashing a new ROM or update, sometimes youre OK not doing this but until you are very well immersed in android and know when you don't have to I always recommend complete wipes, superwipes, fastboot -w, whatever, just be clean
Rizzoizzo made a great guide on how to flash ROMs for beginners, you'll find it within the first few pages of general section, there you will find instructions as well as links to superwipe scripts etc. Be sure to thank him for his guide

Again, thank you very much for your suggestion! Without your tips it would have given me the proverbial headache.
It seems to have fixed the random reboot problem. After wiping and new flashing it never spontaneously rebooted again! I am slowly adding additional apps, and then only the ones the masses use like BBC, CNN and Firefox.
I have to say, it really is so much better with a custom rom. Loads of highly useful options you never had in the stock rom. I am really curious about the battery performance though, we'll see.
For any future readers with the same problem, the guide referred to is this one
