I remember a few months back someone had a tpu case and they cut out sections on the back of the case to fix the problem of the case blocking the gps signal. I was wondering if anybody remembers this and could point me to where that was. They had instructions and pictures I'm pretty sure. Hope someone remembers this.
Thanks
The gps antenna is in the flashlight cover. There's a thread in here detailing a hardware mod that helped me. Think its "gps 1000000% working"

Thanks I just kinda want to start by modifying my tpu case and see if that helps before I dive in n start messing with phone hardware. If i remember correctly the guy who did the mod to his case also cut off a part on lower part of the case where the darker part of the Desire HD is. Is that where the wifi antenna is??

The antenna is at the top where the flash is, as stated. There is a cable running down the side to the GPS module at the bottom of the case.
I cut my own TPU case around the flash cover and the improvement was not that great, In the end I took the case off without trying anything further.
I would suggest cutting around the flash cover with a few holes down the left side and then another larger cut out at the bottom directly in line with flash cover, but be prepared to waste the case

I cut out a rectangle the size of the entire flash cover that pops out. It greatly improved my gps signal. I get a lock within seconds when near a window whereas before i either wouldnt get a lock or it would take minutes. I may try cutting out a part on the bottom on a secondary case to see if that helps even further but at the moment I am very satisfied with my fix. So if anyone is have gps problems try seeing if its your case before going the hardware route.

I used the GPS Test app and set my phone right beside a window and it would take about a minute to get a lock. I then took off my case and I got a lock within seconds so obviously something with my case is blocking the GPS signal. So I cut out a rectangle where the antenna is located. I then test using the app and get a lock within 15 seconds. Its not as fast as without the case but it is way quicker than before. If you don't believe me that's cool. It could be specific to my phone or my case, I'm just saying for the people that are having issues with GPS signal and you have a case, take the case off and see if the signal is better. If it is then your case is blocking the signal and if not then you might have to do the hardware fix that is covered in a bunch of threads.
I've been playing a lot of rainbow 6,so I've been shooting with the R button a lot. After 18k kills my R button now takes a lot more effort to push down before response. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It still works but i can't shoot as fast.

i believe you have encountered a "hardware failure" which if i am correct is covered under your warranty (if you have one), and i don't believe there is a fix (other than sending it in and having sony replace the "R" button)
another option would be to take your phone apart and attempt to clean the innards of the button (which is NOT recommended, plus it's probably a hardware failure which requires replacement of the "R" button {because it broke due to so much use} and 1. you probably don't have a replacement "R" button. and 2. if you do have a warranty, you would "void" it by opening the phone (resulting in having to damage the sticker under the battery)
so if you can't do any of those you're SOL at the moment.
I have the exact same problem and I found an easy temporary solution.
But first I have to ask you. If you take off the battery cover does the button work properly? for me it does.
I will explain the problem first.
The R flap is attached to a small piece of plastic. when the R flap is presses the plastic piece moves as well. This piece then hits the button that signals the xperia play to register an R press.
Now this plastic piece has bent upwards that means the R flap must be pressed harder so that the plastic piece can touch the button. The R flap is stopped from going to the maximum by the Battery cover that is why when you take it off it works normally.
What you have to do is slide something small and bend the plastic piece up a bit. Make sure not to bend the warranty sticker. I bent my up.
I will post pictures soon if the above seems really messed up.
Also like I mentioned I bent the warranty seal a little do you think I can still get it fixed under warranty?
As long as your warranty seal isn't broken off, I don't see a reason why they won't fix it for you. It's there to make sure you haven't opened up the phone. The button feels the same with or without the cover.

In the warranty pamphlet it says
7. Tampering with any of the seals on the product will void the warranty.
The seal is slightly bent and it looks as if it was creased. Do you think they will now? Also how come there is so many warranty seals on the Xperia Play? And why does it seem like they are made out of leather?

Hi, has anyone replaced their digitizer on their desire z/g2? How did it go? It looks easy on the youtube vid.. have any problems? What way did you use to melt the glue? What digitizer did you use, where from?
Any info much appriciated as will be replaceing mine v soon due to 'invisible finger problem' that's driving me nuts..
Thanks..
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Never done it on a g2 but should be pretty straight forward especially with a video lol. Use a heat gun to melt the glue, pretty much the only tool you SHOULD use to do something like that.
I replaced the digitizer on my third G2 after getting a refurb replacement from T-Mobile that had a black spot inside the actual digitizer glass, not on the outside or inside.
The process is very easy with the video, however, trying to keep dust and fingerprints from getting on the inside of the phone while you're trying to get it back together is a serious pain in the rear! If it's the same video that I watched, just use a hair drier blowing hot air to heat the adhesive on the inside of the digitizer and then pop the digitizer off very very slowly, because you don't want to accidentally bend the metal bezel around the screen.
You also may want to leave the original leftover adhesive on the inside, because when I cleaned mine off, light now always leaks out around the bottom edge of the digitizer, below the menu, home, and search buttons, even though I used the double sided adhesive strips covering the entire length of the bottom, so light shouldn't technically be leaking out. No biggie, though... it works like brand new, now!
Thanks for the reply.. I have seen that video and that's what I was using as a guide.. I ordered the digi today, should be here tomorrow.. the only thing I was wondering was the glueing process, as I have not ordered the double sided glue/tape stuff, as I was just hopeing to still use the original glue as I think you are saying.. I hope that works! Have to be careful like u say with dust/fingerprints etc..
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Hmm, after reading your post again, maybee I should of bought the double sided tape afterall? Do you think the old leftover glue is enough for the new digi?
Many thanks..
Sent from my HTC Vision usingall XDA App
Run over to radio shack they must have some kind of glue you can use lol. google cell phone screen glue see what info you can find.
Ok, just incase anyone is interested, got my new digitizer, followed the video, used a heat gun cerfully to melt the glue, pulled the old digitizer out, and used the original glue whilst still warm to hold the new digi in, as all of glue stayed on the case rather than on the digi, which was pretty lucky.. put it all back together and everything perfect, touchscreen back to how it should be.. cost me 17 pounds.

How was this accompilshed?
I replaced the touch screen as well and the problem persists. Plus I never ran into a part that required a heat gun did I use the wrong item?
A VERY confusing part is getting the midframe to hold to the hinge mounts. The side (black dots all down it) should overlap the stabilizer bar on the hinge. I fidgeted with it for hours until realizing it goes over, and inadvertently damaged the highly sensitive LCD screen, which resulted in me taking the whole thing apart again to replace the LCD and digitizer. UGH!
DO NOT get the cheapo digitizer on Amazon, look for one with gray spots where the menu, home, back and search keys are on the back side. The digitizers without them will not work when you swap over the white button caps on the back. I feel like this information is vital to anyone who is replacing their G2 digitizer, but most guides and videos make no mention of it.
I used a lamp to heat up the glass to remove it the first time. Took too long the second time so I used a hair dryer.

Hi, I did buy mine from amazon.co.uk, there were a few for sale,, the one I bought was supposed to be a genuine t-mobile g2 replacement (refurb I think, pressumably this just means that it was from a second hand g2 that had problems and the digi was taken out - and I'm pretty certain this is the case as mine has a thin film (which u leave on) over the back of the digi covering the tracks etc, which had a few very small air/dust bubbles under it (just noticeable when screen off), where I own a desire z, so now it sais t-mobile instead of htc, but I can live with that.
The small grey bits that you talk about were floating about or stuck on my digi when I pulled it off the main chassis. I had a look, and as far as I could work out, were possibly just for giving colour to the tiny led's that give you light to the home/search keys etc (I may be wrong on their use), but if you look closely, the tiny grey things have even smaller rectangles on them that relate to the positions of the led's on the circuit board. So I picked the remaining ones off the old digi, put them back in their correct holes and stuck the new digi in. I've had no problems (with a digi from amazon with no little grey things on it) so far, but maybee this is due to mine being a second hand original part..
Edit : Now after reading your post again, you're talking about bits that are actually on the digi itself, not the white caps that I'm talking about! Whoops. I didn't notice any grey spots on the digi itself, but I guess I must have them..

actually it says HTC on it and looks a lil bit differently than on the picture.
never the less, i replaced it really carefully and checked every connecting.
But somehow the Touchscreen doesn't work at all.
Can anyone help me ? what could be the problem ?
Wrong digitzer ?
is it okay, that the digitizer has direct contact to the frame where it is glued to ?

Hi!
I have the same problem, I have asked it already here
So you had invisible finger press in the screen, and the screen was bad responsive?
...Just to make sure my problem is digitizer problem! The service wont change it in warranty unless the problem is there all the time! But its driving me crazy! why is it happening randomly, why isnt it all the time? How could i make the screen to do this problem when i'm at the service?

Usually when i get a new phone i look around the web for a guide to replace the lc just incase i ever need to...well, after much searching, i never found a guide for the LG Nitro it must just not be as popular a phone as i thought. So i used my own Nitro to make a guide to replacing the LCD screen...
Tools you will need: #00 Phillips screw driver & plastic prying tool (a guitar pic will also suffice)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019365&stc=1&d=1335128382
The easiest way i found to get the back off of the phone is start at the mouth receiver using a finger nail move around both sides popping the tabs out...then kinda jiggle the top off...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019366&stc=1&d=1335128382
Remove all 9 screws highlighted by the red "O"
The piece highlighted yellow is a plastic cover you need to remove first best pop the bottom up like you did the back of the phone and slide it down comes off easy goes back hard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019367&stc=1&d=1335128382
this is wat the piece should look like wen you get it off...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019382&stc=1&d=1335129363
The area highlighted the yellow/green color is another plastic cover the needs to be removed. I started at the bottom left side of the phone and again wen around it with my thumb nail to pop the tabs...there may come a point you may have to apply a little bit of force to pull the tabs
CAUTION while trying to remove this piece the LDC tries to come up due to a little adhesive holding the piece down you do not want that to bend too much
Also be cautious of the volume and power buttons as they WILL fall out and you WILL lose them (like i did for hours) if you dont mind them..below is wat they look like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019383&stc=1&d=1335129363
You now will be able to see the control board....Fun Fact there are extra antenna plugins aswell as an extra ribbon plugin....wonder Y?
Next step is to unplug all the ribbon cables highlighted in yellow as well as the wifi antenna, not all the ribbons need to be unplugged just the highlighted
After (not before) you unplug the cables remove the four screws highlighted by the "O"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019384&stc=1&d=1335129363
The camera (center) and headphone jack (bottom left) can be easily removed
just by pulling them out...below is wat they look like...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019385&stc=1&d=1335130305
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019387&stc=1&d=1335130305
Next removing the Control Board u may have trouble getting it lose from the touch screen around the area pointed to be the orange arrow aswell keep an eye on the touch screen ribbon as it is very flimsy pointed to by the green arrow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019388&stc=1&d=1335130305
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019389&stc=1&d=1335130305
Now to remove the touch screen to access the LCD...bend back the ight blue highlighted ribbon and seperate the two pieces that are the touch screen and the plastic piece holding the LCD and digitizer
Highlighted in red is a small rubber piece holding the touch screen ribbon down...below is a picture of the peice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019390&stc=1&d=1335130305
Here is a pic of the touch screen removed...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019392&stc=1&d=1335130305
CAUTION THE LCD ISNT HELD IN VERY GOOD SO WATCH OUT FOR IT TO FALL OUT OF THE DIGITIZER WHERE ITS HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019393&stc=1&d=1335131305
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1019394&stc=1&d=1335131305
Highlighted here in yellow is the ribbon to the LCD starting where the connecter is to the ribbon peal off all of the highlighted area
Careful here is where the ribbon is bent so dont peal to fast of it could rip
Remove the black square holding down the ribbon and pull the ribbon through the slot to the side where the LCD is and it should come right out of the digitizer...(I dont have a pic of the one but its pretty obvious at this point wat to do)
I hope this helps somone like me that just couldnt find the answer they were looking for....good day!
s1im
Wow, this is really interesting, I wonder if any hardware mods could be accomplished using those extra antenna plugins?
I was hoping somone would notice it and maybe tinker around with one...
there are at least 2 antenna plugs that i saw open...
What kind of antenna plugin mods are there out there?
Could be nfc

Didn't think about that. Also, it's been a few weeks since I used this guide and I thought it showed the screws, so my apologies.
Yes, they are all small phillips heads.
I edited the original post to show the only 2 tools you would need is a #00 Phillips screw driver and a plastic opening tool or guitar pic is helpful
I also saw a question asking could the glass be separate from the front housing the answer is not safely enough to reuse if anyone else buys a digitizer replacement that does not fit the back housing perfectly it needs to be returned
So on my 3rd Lumia 900, I noticed the sim slot tray wasn't flush with phone... I never did get that fixed but whatever...
Anyways... I removed the tray and noticed 2 things 1) a stricker with some numbers, and 2) a second sticker that is actually used to mask some type of button or something. I didn't notice this on the first 2 devices I had (maybe they didn't have it, or maybe I didn't notice). I had to remove the plastic thick sticker on the right side to see the button or whatever it is... Took me forever to put it back on in place properly.
Anyone know what this is?
IIRC, it covers the slot that allows you remove the locking pin that retains the screen, so you can get inside the phone. You can use the SIM removal tool as a lever to remove the pin, then use a plastic pry tool to remove the screen.
This will void your warranty.
DONT TOUCH IT!!!
if you absolutely must touch it, be aware that your warranty is at stake. if you aren't familiar with the inner workings of a handset, its best to leave it alone.
You wouldn't start poking around inside of your TV if you found a small hole.

Actually.....it could void your warrently....if they checked that. Removing stickers on a handset is usually an indicator of a stay away area near hear...stay away.....

This thread did make me go look. got the flash light out, the reading glasses, I'm looking inside there....and boom....I see the darn this right on the top. First glance....this is a "You void your warrenty" type of sticker. But thats my opinion. The one of the Dell Venue Pro was black and barely noticable...until you pull it back and it left its surprise.....but then you were looking for the SD card....
Strange...but cool to know.
I have to admit, the same day the YouTube video came up showing how to dismantle the phone, I went ahead and did it. It's pretty slick the way it's held together.
I wanted to see how the Vibrator Motor was installed to see if there was a good reason for the rattle and possibly a fix. Unfortunately, it's under the Main Board, and I was not that enthusiastic, so never got to see it. But I can confirm it's the Motor, or something close to it, and NOT the camera lense. I ran the vibrator while the phone was open so I could find the source. Again, it's under the Main Board, so could not see the actual rattle source.
I'm wondering if it might be one of the metal plates that clip on to cover the IC Chips, thus the different rattle on different phones. All the other parts seem to be solidly mounted.
PS: From what I can tell, there's no sign that the sticker had been lifted after I put it back in place.
