Battery Auto Calibrate - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

ROMs that contain this mod. When flashing a new rom or kernel, what is the procedure to re cal the battery?
I believe people should post their usage times when stating the number of hours of battery life. I hardly use my phone on Sundays and I can get 21 hours plus. The only way to determine battery life is to state the usage in time for internet, games, call usage ect.
Steve

There is a great app in the market. i think its called battery calibration. just charge battery to when it says 100% and run app. there is also an option to run it when not at 100%.

21 hours on hardly any useage? That's pretty bad.
Today I watched 2 hours of video from the SD card, then streamed 90 minutes from Netflix over 3G, plus the occasional short (less than 5 minutes) phone call, frequent email checks, and some random texting, and I'm sitting at 57%.
On extremely light usage, I unplug at 7am, go through my work day without turning wi-fi off (I let it auto detect and connect to my home network), random texts, check Groupon, check email, short calls, and 30 minutes or so reading with the Kindle app... By 4:00 I'm usually at about 85%.

my battery drops like 17% (from 100 to 83) just playing an hour of music off the sd card(doing nothing else) if I watched 2 hours of video, an hour and a half of netflix plus other usage my battery would be much less than 57%

my work has terrible reception so im always roaming. i was wondering if it makes a difference when i calibrate my battery at work as opposed to on the weekend when im at home and i get much better battery life? does it matter?

Sure does. I almost doubled my battery by switching my roaming to Sprint only.

Typical Cell Standby Usage Percentage

What is everyone's cell standby battery usage, percentage wise?
Mine is 41%, which seems a bit much.
My battery is down to about 30% in about 6 hours (most of which was in standby).
I'm trying new roms and kernels, so I'm trying to determine whether or not that's the problem.
Today mine is around 34% and I have seen it as high as 41%..After almost 13hrs still at around 65% battery but I've been light on my phone today.
I've been incredibly light on my phone today.
When in some of my classes, I have horrible/no service. I'm thinking that has a lot to do with it.
Are some ROMs or kernels more heavy on the battery when not in service than others?
With my stock rom and kernel, my battery didn't last long, but it was much better than this.
Im usually about 41% also seen as high as 43% but only once....as long as your time without signal is low I don't think its that big of deal..but, if they is a way to lower it without goin into airplane mode would that help battery life?
Well if you guys' cell standby usage is as high as mine, then I guess that it isn't the problem.
I was just asking because it seems like I remember hearing that some phones increase Tx power when they don't have service in an attempt to get a signal.
Mine cycled through 1 bar, roaming and no service for about 50 minutes while in class today.
Maybe I'll just try different ROMs and kernels and find a combination that works for me.
~7 hours of use isn't cutting it since I was getting significantly more time with the stock ROM.
Thanks, guys.

A typical battery usage in standby with only 3G on (mobile data always on = off, gtalk = signed off) should be between 1-2%. In 6 hours of standby, you should not have lost more than 6-12% of battery charge. A full charge should be sufficient for about 3-4 days of standby.

He is not talking about the same thing we are.......he is talking about actual battery usage via battery icon, not the settings, about phone, battery, battery use screen.
I get approx the same battery use few % an hour with phone standby @ 43% of total battery use as long as I have a good signal and not using the phone
Two different things dont get confused.....
JuiceDefender has done the trick. I'm at about 45% battery remaining 8 hours and 2 minutes after being unplugged with 35% of the damage attributed to cell standby.
The only caveat is that Gmail and Google Voice don't push instantly. Of course 15 minute intervals are enough for my email, and a simple text upon receipt by Google Voice lets me know exactly when I get a voicemail.
Thanks all for your responses.

Battery life on idle

Everyone's always talking about battery life around here, but all those discussions about how long everyone's phone lasts seem pointless. Sure, one guy might be getting 30 hours of battery life, and some other guy might be getting 10 hours, but that could happen with both of them using the same phone if the first guy never touches it while the second guy is a gamer.
So in the interest of having a more useful discussion about battery life, I was hoping people could share how much their phone drains an hour while not being used, along with their configuration. That's what most people actually mean when they talk about battery life, how long it lasts when they're not using it.
By idle I mean with data connected (either WiFi or cellular), accounts syncing, but screen off and sleeping.
I'll start off I'm seeing battery use of about 3-4% / hour, I'm running Juggernaut 5 with faux kernel 009m, no undervolting or overclocking beyond whatever faux kernel 009m comes with.
I get about the same with just about the same setup as you and I think its high drain to be honest, but it gets me through the day. I get anywhere from 10-16 hours on a charge with an average of 3 to 3.5 hours of screen on time. It gets me through my long school days easy. I don't care for getting 20+ hours on one charge, because I actually use my phone and charge it every night.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Around 2% per hr.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
On warfare ROM, getting 2% per hour with wifi on
Getting about 2% drain every 7 hours overnight with background data on at the moment
Im at 30hr usage with about 25% battery power remaining on the stock rom. Battery isnt as nearly as bad as i thought.

your post is confusing because cell standby is not the same as cell data. it also doesn't say how often the phone is syncing data... once per day?
in any case, i drop about 1% every 2 hours will cell standby (radio) on. stock rom, faux 009 kernel, nexus battery.

What do you mean cell standby is not the same as cell data. What's the difference? Basically, I just mean with some sort of data connection set up, not in airplane mode.
Regarding syncing data, data syncing is continuous as long as you're connected if you have your accounts syncing under settings. There's no way to change the amount of times per day it syncs.
1 to 2 percent drop per hour.
Refer to my sig for more details.
cell standby is when your phone can receive phone calls and texts. cell data is internet, like 4g.
most people like to have their phone useful as a phone, so cell standby is usually on. but data syncing does not have to be continuous. you can open the internet connection for 10 seconds every minute, or a minute every hour, more often during work hours, etc. that's how apps like juice defender work.
also, 2g takes less battery than 4g. so if you're syncing with the display off, you could sync on 2g and just browse the web on 4g. it takes some effort to switch, but tasker can automate this.

Okay, well those are the types of things it'd be really helpful to hear about. What sort of idle usages people are seeing with different setups, such as when they're using JuiceDefender and the like.
2-5% per hour. Stock rooted phone.

Never mind.
I get about 1/2% drain per hour on standby. Im running Darkside Digital 2.4, it comes out of the box underclocked. Thats on 4g, data syncing once a day, gps off, and alot of apps I dont use frozen or uninstalled.
I get about a 30% drop in 5 hours of no use..with data and wifi off. Now that is bad

That's really bad. Sounds like something is wakelocking your phone, you should get BetterBatteryStats and see what's holding the partial wakelocks.
I changed my kernel from faux 009m to Bullet, and set the governor to ondemand.
Cut my idle battery usage down to about 1% an hour, which is a great improvement from my previous 3% an hour.
My phone has been in Stanby since 7am (starting with 100% battery) and its now at 80% battery...

running jauggernaut 4.1, juice defender on (free version), email set to sync once every 4hrs, wifi on, data off, BT and GPS always on, loses about 1-2% per hour during sleep. sometimes it goes a little crazy and lose like 5-8%/hr, but it goes back to normal after reboot.

Piss poor battery life?

I don't know what I did to this phone but my battery life has been awful. I'll admit I'm a bit of a flashoholic, but I have calmed down.
I just installed CM9 alpha 3 last night. From 8am (when I left home) I did nothing but listen to music, with some very light browsing on the train. Music for about an hour and a half, browsing barely 10 minutes on 3g. I get to class and do a fair amount of texting. Fair amount being that's basically all I did in the class. Though that was on Facebook messenger app, on wifi. About a half hour later I realize my battery is about halfway. I look at my battery, it's at 29% with about 3 hours use. I restart the phone a while later (did triangle away and rebooted to test) and I got the battery critical notification.
Now this isn't new, or exclusive to cm9. A month ago in fact, I had miui (ics) for about a week, until I noticed by the time I get to class (after hour and a half of music) my battery was already at 60% and draining. Battery is also meh on gb roms (even calkulins) even with recalibrating battery.
Is my battery just ****ed?

No, ICS battery life is crap in my experience as well thus far. I am back to gingerbread until further notice.
You can try wiping battery stats and doing a calibration by recharging with the phone powered off, taking the battery out 5 mins, then charging it till full again (still with the phone off) - some people say that helps
EDIT
"Meh" on gingerbread roms , can you be more specific? I get about 15 hours with heavy use... pushing 30 with light use on permanent wifi.
Check your battery to make sure it's 1800 milliamps instead of 1500 as well.

You should try calibrating your battery and cycling it.

I'd consider that good for ICS. I can get the numbers and on screen time on GB that your images show with a day on battery and still have 40 percent left.

[Q] Do I have a faulty device.?

So I had several calls yesterday for over 30 mins each..
Each time i would hear echoy sound of my voice, and i also feel like i could hear the voice coming out of the phone lol, even though the phone isnt on speaker.
I also my have a bad battery it'll go pretty low i guess. Yesterday was my first full day using it, went to work at 70% since i forgot to charge it, at noon unplugged it's at 100% came home around 9 and got 10% left. , so i got 9 hours in total, from calls. light browsing, light twitter, facebook use.. I havent even setup my work email, and i constantly get over 100+ emails a day on my account. So i know battery will go significantly
Should I wipe everything clean and see if it works.. I have 14 days to return for a new one.
also today left my house at 7:30.. it 9:50 now and already at 75%...
I think someone else on here had similar issue with having an echo when speaking into the phone. If im not mistaken they exchanged it and the new one did not have the problem. Maybe you should take it in for an exchange.
As far as battery life, well it seems to be varying from user to user. I am getting pretty good battery life, anywhere from 12-15 hours on a charge with medium use. On light use I get well over 15 hours. There are some that seem to be having poor battery life. Have you checked your battery stats? Whats your android OS % at? And what is your screen on time? Have you turned on ECO mode?

Assuming you dont have a lemon, it all depends on how you use your phone.
Do you have lots of apps with push notifications?
Or do you have lots of apps that check for new notifications every 10 minutes?
Screen brightness? Screen-on time?
What radios do you have on?
...the list goes on
On a typical day, I can get about 12 hours with moderate use (3 hrs screen on time). Close to 24 hours with light use. Mine idles pretty well (approx 1% or less battery loss per hour).
FWIW - my 'Android OS' is usually at around 50% and screen is at about 25%

Yeah - I never turned those on or used any kind of juice defender either (thought I am on Wifi alot). I think you're fine.
Try this - fully charge your phone before you go to bed. Leave it off the charger over night. See how much your battery drops. Even with a few google accounts on push, facebook messenger push, instagram push, LG social+ and a couple of news readers that auto-update every few hours, I've seen my battery drop at most 5% over 7 hours.

YouTube internet calls etc
still have 65% 16.5 hrs later.:good:
Just starting to play with battery use on my new G5. 100% charged 10 hours ago just before bed.
On a day to day basis i am a pretty light user. Calls and texts mainly.
Left phone unpluggged so it slept and 7 1/2 hours layer its at 93%.
20 mins music and email checking 19 hours in its at 88%.
Have Greenified much in the way of apps which i think improved things. Compared to the Sony i had the G5 seems to have ok battery life.
Its certainly in the useful, full day and better range.

Is yours rooted? I tend to get 5+ hours screen on time sometimes 7 which is amazing for a phone this cheap.
Same here, I have about 4-5 hours of screen on time with greenify, non-rooted. I'm a regular user, messenger, emailing, browsing, spotify etc. I'm also using Adguard which has its impact on the battery but a small price compared to having ads all over the place

Nope, no root as yet. And actually i may not depending on what ROMS become available in the future. Pretty happy with the way this is setting up and Android 7.0 stock. I think i may well leave it unrooted until after Android O hits and see where i go from there.
i'm rooted and the battery is very good, i got 7,5 hours SOT, usually i have 5-6 H of calls and 3H of SOT, 2 sims active, wifi and 4g always on, and the battery is 20-25% when i put on charging from evening to the morning. Very happy with this battery

I don´t know it´s a isolated case, but since i bought the phone, the battery is pretty bad, yesterday i tried to charge with another power adapter and my battery it´s lasting longer, anyone have this same problem?
Sometimes this happens to me.
When i keep my phone overnight(Battery Saver ON) even wid a charge of 60-70%, next day mrng, the battery is completely drained and phone is OFF. This doesnt happen daily, happens only sometimes. Any guesses why dis happens?
