visual voice mail on mango with VZW (can I hack it in ?) - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

So, I called up Verizon today and asked about Visual Voice mail with Windows phone 7 mango on my HTC Trophy. I was told that they support it. So I said, can you enable the feature and they did.
I was told it would take about a 1/2 hour for the feature to be provisioned to my phone. Well, 5 hours later, no options in Mango to use it.
It is enabled with my carrier, IS it possable to hack the service settings in there to get the feature working or does the carrier have to manually send something to my phone to enable this?
I did seach but, just a few carriers have it enabled, no details besides no idea on other carriers.
So, is there any hack to get the option to show up ?

anyone know ?

Depends if Verizon is using the correct Visual Voicemail protocol that the phone understands. Maybe they are but the feature is disabled for some reason, in which case it can probably be made to work (I assume your phone is interop-unlocked).
If they use an incompatible protocol, though, you're robably out of luck.

Handsfree Dialing while phone locked

Hi Guys,
I've just ordered 17 touch pro 2's for work and I'm very impressed with them so far. Absolutely awesome phone. We've just got one issue which is the fact that when the phone is locked (we used centralised policies with exchange) you can't dial from our Parrots. The phone says you must unlock the device to allow bluetooth connection.
Does anyone know a way around this without taking the locks off of the phone which is a big no no. Tested it with a collegue's Omnia and it works fine.
You can replicate this issue by using the Bluesoleil dialer which is what I've been doing for testing.
The parrot receives calls fine, just can't make them he the phone is locked.
TIA.
Same problem
Hi there,
I'm having the same issue for dialling out via bluetooth whilst the phone is locked. The TP2 says it needs to be unlocked before answering the call.
There MUST be some registry key to change to prevent this "feature" ... none of the previous HTC phones I have had have had this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help!
i have the same problem, i installed s2u2, which solves the not being able to dial out when its locked, but it's not the most reliable solution.
i'd rather have it working like it did on my kaiser before this phone.
hope someone helps us out.
I tried out S2U2, but the problem is it's only a keypad lock, so plug the phone in USB for example and you still have full access to the device.
S2U2 also does not stop you sliding out the keyboard and pressing the mail button to read the emails on the phone, so this isn't a solution we can use, it's not even a compromise
Haven't had much luck with HTC support either. They are very quick to respond but don't respond with anything of value.
I just wanted to bump this thread -- I picked up a Tilt2 and have the same problem -- really annoying when trying to dial from the car and having to unlock (didn't have this issue on my Fuze).
Yeah this is the most annoying thing I have ever seen. There must be a way to turn it off. I use Ford Sync and really don't want to have to worry about my phone being locked or unlocked. Seems like this goes against all those phone laws. You are making me look at my phone first to make sure it isn't locked before I can safely dial.
Wish I had found this thread before I went ahead with getting a Tilt 2. Didn't have this problem with my Tilt.
Is this a WM6.5 limitation? Hopefully there is an obscure setting that I'm too stupid to find.
Cheers
... and I was just about to ask on this thread whether or not this was still a problem in WM6.5 but I guess I have my answer now.
It's definitely an issue in WM6.0
I contacted AT&T and they said to contact HTC.
HTC gave me this answer:
Thank you for contacting HTC Technical Assistance Center. I apologize for the length of time it took me to respond to your email. I understand how important it can be to use Bluetooth from your device when your device is locked. I will be happy to address the concern for you.
There is not a setting on your ATT Tilt 2 for enabling Bluetooth when your device is locked. When pairing Bluetooth with your vehicle your device must remain unlocked to use the correct functionality. I would suggest placing your device into hibernation mode and keeping your device in a carrying case.
Hi,
I have upgraded by TP2 with the offical HTC rom for 6.5 and installed my blackberry connect 1.06 client. Now, even with the BB lock enforced, as it was with the TP2 using 6.0 and it is working perfectly handsfree in my CAR, locked or not. Previously the TP2 with the stock 6.0 ROM wouldn't make calls when locked.
If people are reporting here that is didn't work in 6.5, then there must be a registry setting somewhere to enable or disable it.
I am just happy that I can make a call in the car, without having to pull over and unlock my phone.
If someone can give me a hint as to where in the registry to look I can compare some settings?
I have a stock AT&T Tilt-2, I loaded loaded "smartlock 1.7" to autolock the phone at power off and also when "in-call" to avoid random dialing. I don't use the PIN for locking.
I can dial hands free BT in my car and with headsets with no issues, power on/off whatever.
Maybe it'd disabled when locked with the PIN?
I am seeing the same issue with two of my users:
One is using a Verizon Wireless TP2 with MW6.1 stock ROM
The other is using an Unlocked HTC touch Pro 2, on the AT&T wireless network (not a Tilt2) with the HTC WM6.5 ROM upgrade.
The Verizon users is using Sync on his Ford Vehical. The other is using whatever system is in his BMW.
Both can pair with the car's system, but if the phone is locked with a PIN the user is not able to place a call without first unlocking the phone.
Has anyone found any information on this?
If MSVC is an option then it has the ability to dial while password protected.
Just noticed this has been bumped. I upgraded all of our phones to the standard Windows Mobile 6.5 from Vodafone when it came out a month ago and this problem is now resolved you'll be glad to know.
I've got 25 handsets currently working fine with no real issues. All the niggles that I had have gone away with 6.5 so it's definately worth the upgrade.
6.1 was screwed and no use with handsfree dialing if you use windows lock which we enforce on our exchange server.
Seems like every provider is a little different.
I have the AT&T Tilt 2 which came with WM6.5, AT&T support claims its a Microsoft and HTC problem. HTC claims its a Microsoft problem.
Anyone have a good support link to Microsoft to get this problem resolved?
Can someone with a working 6.5 rom please post the following registry info to see if there is a way to enable the bluetooth dialing on the roms that are not working?
HKLM\Software\Widcomm\General
When you get the unable to dial message it puts a new key in there called DontAskHfpCallFailOnDeviceLock and I figure that the bypass might be in this same area.

erenken,
Thanks for the info. The only item different on my 6.5 Tilt2 is that I also have a key "DontAskHfpCallFailOnDeviceLock"=1. Sounded very promising.
Unfortunately, changing this key to 0 and even deleting it doesn't make a difference: I still cannot dial via bluetooth while the phone is locked with a pin. I tried these changes both with and without a soft reset between.

[Q] internet explorer

When you're on internet explorer and click the search button it sends you to Google search why? How can I change it to search with bing? Thanks
Mobile Providers can do it.. yet don't know how.
On my Mozart it does the annoying T-mobile search, even with an unlocked phone. I don't understand the reason. The boot logo is t-mobile, too. It has no branding on package, hardware or providers. Just the Software thing.
so btm I'm also curious to know how to change the IE mobile search... Any ideas?
i believe that's the carrier modifications... not sure if it can be overriden at this stage... hopefully MS provides capabilities to set our own defaults... please bring this for the next update...
Someone wants to remove Google from their IE as search engine here.

no I still can't find a solution to this issue
T-Mobile or your carrier changed the settings on your phone. I don't know why, you are buying a Microsoft product that has alot of Bing in it regardless. Your only hope is that Microsoft gives people the option to change this in the future or that T-Mobile (or your carrier) comes to their senses and puts Bing back as the default in a carrier pushed update.
Even if the only options were a radio button that said "crap the carrier got paid for" and "Bing", would be a nice option, Bing is best on these phones so far, and I like Bing and google near equally

Got Mango on ATT - No Visual Voicemail

So I got the update on the leading edge. Still no VVM under phones on ATT. Called and they say the phone doesn't support it... Of course none of them even know anything about the phone or that there was an update today.
Should we all call in and make them think about this?
I think ATT only supports VVM on the iphone. I don't think it's even on android phones. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
They support iPhones and... Get this RIM Blackberries!
What is their issue?
if they do it for us it will cost us
I wish they had it, I have to use youmail and gv, youmail for visual vm and gv for transcription. Wish I had an all in one.
I used those products in the past and it kept getting out of sync, so I just gave up. How simple could it be for ATT to just "flip a switch".

I did that and now have the RTM. However how do we know this is the AT&T matched firmware with the Focus? Since that hasn't been released yet according to the wheresmyphoneupdate website.
Also would you mind running a test on your focus? Download the application called "Bandwidth" and run a 3G test. Let me know your best results. I'm getting terrible results even with the new RTM and Samsung update package.

Programs which relied on Samsung specific drivers are updated and working (compass, etc), which shows this is a carrier ROM. Also, the phone update website has been updated since 10 AM PST to show that the updates are being delivered - I updated at 10:15 AM PST.
Also, sooo many variables affect bandwidth that that isn't a very definitive test on how the update is. Especially with the new network ATT is putting in place.
Please wait for a chat representative to respond.
Welcome to AT&T Chat. My name is 'Kathy Williams' and I’ll be happy to assist you today.
Kathy Williams: I apologize that you are having problems with your Visual Voicemail, Mr.
Kathy Williams: I will be happy to assist you.
: thank you
: I looked everything up on how to set it up but for some reason it is not showing up in settings
: i was informed that I need to have ATT do somethign on their side to "turn on" VVM
Kathy Williams: Please allow me one moment to pull up your account.
Kathy Williams: Did this new update include Visual Voicemail for your phone?
: yes
: All windows phones were updated today and the update includes VVM
: all i need is the "switch" or whatever turned on so that my service allows access to it
Kathy Williams: I apologize but we do not show Visual Voicemail available on your phone at this time.
Kathy Williams: I do not show that we are supporting that feature on this phone yet.
: do you show the Samsung Focus S in your system yet?
Kathy Williams: Yes sir. It has been in our system for awhile.
: does that phone support VVM?
Kathy Williams: No sir.
: ok...
: ATT states they are the premier carrier for windows phones but doesnt offer visual voice mail yet?
: is there any way to find out if they ever will?
Kathy Williams: No on that phone yet. We only have it on the iPhone and Blackberry at this time.
Kathy Williams: I am sure we will offer it. However it is not available right now.
: and there is no way to find out if or when though?
Kathy Williams: We do not have any information at this time, Mr.
WTF!!!
Tom Warren with PC Mag reported on twitter a while ago that hes hearing from sources that AT&T will offer VVM for our phones within the next 30 days, lets hope that is the case!
Anyone that forced Mango today on ATT just got the same RTM Mango version that has been available for awhile with a manual install. You may have got a firmware update from Samsung that enabled the Compass, but you didn't get the ATT Carrier customized Mango yet.
Once you get that if it doesnt have VVM and Mobile Hotspots then feel free to complain.
Um, im on at&t and got it legitly and i dont have vvm yet. at&t is not supporting it yet...

I forced and my firmware is AT&T (as labeled LG-C900AT) and there's no VVM option.
Sent from my LG-C900 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I don't know how many times it has to be said. AT&T does not currently support Visual Voicemail on Windows Phone 7 or Android, only on iPhone and BlackBerry. It will take upgrades on their back end before we see Visual Voicemail.

[Q] Native VOIP support

Doesn't the GNEX have built-in VOIP support?
My old HTC Desire with Oxygen ROM (AOSP 2.3) had this.

SIP accounts have been natively supported since Gingerbread.
In ICS go into phone -> Menu -> Settings -> Internet call settings.
You can set up your SIP account there and call settings (when to use, receive incoming, etc).
Hm, yeah thats what I thought too, but I don't see any "Internet call settings" in the setup menu on my GNEX 4.0.2.

Anybody want to recommend a good SIP service and say a little about them? Currently I am using GrooVe IP + Google Voice but who knows what is going to happen now that Google has screwed them over..
I was recommended sipgate.com and terrasip.com by friends. Not much experience with them yet but I was told they are good.
From my own experience, avoid voipdiscount.com, awful call quality.
SipGate is not going to work for me, at least for the time being.
Thank you for your interest in sipgate!
Due to the increased volume of new registrations within the last few weeks, we have unfortunately ran out of free numbers in your area and we are currently not able to offer you any alternative free phone number at the moment.
We have ordered a new batch of numbers which will be made available very soon but we're afraid we can't give you an exact time frame for this yet. Follow us on twitter and we will let you know when it will be possible to sign-up for an account with us again.

Few people know about this provider because they mostly sell to other companies but their quality and rates is second to none. I pay $6/monthly and use the native sip feature. works like a charm.
Can anyone explain in a few words what is the difference between DID and SIP and VOIP.
I live in Thailand. I'd like to be able to let people call a number somewhere in Europe or US and have that redirect to my mobile here. Obviously with as low cost as possible.
I'd also like to be able to call people worldwide without spending an arm and a leg. That is what a SIP provider provides, correct?
I guess to get a number somewhere I need to find a DID provider able to provide the number in that country, right? And I'd still need some way to carry the call from the DID to me? Do I understand this right?
Unfortunately the international Internet connectivity from here isn't too good, so I thought perhaps it would be best to get a SIP provider here? Or does that not make any difference?
Sorry if this is going somewhat off topic, but since you guys seems to know this stuff and the OP (my) question has been answered I guess it's ok
Anyone know of a way to set it to only use internet calling when you are on wifi? It is pretty pointless for it to use 3g or LTE for internet calling...
Thanks

SIP is a protocol for VOIP (Session Initiation Protocol).
A DID is a direct inward dialing number (a telephone number).
Normally with a sip provider you don't get a DID. You receive calls at [email protected] This does not allow a standard phone to call you, just other SIP clients.
There are various services (and some SIP providers) that will allow/grant a DID to send a call to a SIP service. You can get a DID with Sipgate or use a service such as IPKall to get a DID and forward the calls placed to that DID to your VOIP/SIP provider (which will then ring your phone).

How to set up on Verizon.

Hey guys. I'm on Verizon and currently am on my Essential Phone and just bought a 7T and was wondering how to go about switching it. Back when the 6T came out I know you had to call Verizon and tell them to switch it to a CDMA-less device and do some other things but wasn't sure if it got a little more streamlined with the 7T. I did read one article from a website that just says I need to switch the SIM and then go into My Verizon, log in and activate. Is that accurate? Anyone with experience in this? Thanks in advance.
I've switched 3 lines to OP 7Ts. All that I did was log into my Verizon, find the switch device option, type in IMEI and it automatically added CDMA less, advanced calling....and I just followed the directions given in the screen....all 3 work great!

Thanks! That's all I needed to know!
I ran into my own slew of issues getting my phone activated on verzion (t-mobile oneplus 7t, already carrier unlocked).
Here's my experience.
I went into the verizon store and they could not activate my phone based on its IMEI. That said, they took the sim from my pixel and popped it in and phone calls worked no issue. I could also send text, but could not receive them.
It took a few calls, but I eventually had to get to tier 2 tech support where they manually had to key in my device info so it could be activated on Verizon (wasn't in their device database). It was showing up as unknown device before then in their system and in the my verizon app. They said it would take 24-48 hours before it would be in the data base. About 24 hours later, I checked the My Verizon app and found it was now listed as a OnePlus 7T UNL and showed the device image.
After doing that, I had to call into support again and ask them to add Feature #83856 be added to the line (I had done this before on two other calls by requesting CDMA-Less be added, that didn't work as the techs had no clue what I was talking about and wanted to pawn me off onto One Plus support). Just ask for the feature number as they can look it up and add it to your line fairly easily. The moment they added that feature to my account, my texts started pouring in.
Hope this is helpful if you run into any similar issues that I did. I love this phone so far, hopefully they will streamline this setup in the future as I made multiple trips to verizon and called into support at least a dozen times before figuring out the best way to approach this. Expect tier 1 support to have no idea what you actually need 90% of the time and keep pushing for a T2 escalation if your device shows up as unknown in their system.
I've also read that if the device shows up in the system and you're having issues, getting a new sim may correct without having to worry about having features added/removed from the line as it should auto provision the features (according to T2 tech) when activating a new sim on a 1+ phone that is already in their system.

Coverage has been great, I haven't run into any issues honestly vs having a cdma compatible phone previously (pixel 3 xl). Data speeds have been just as good. I did flash my firmware to the international version to get quicker updates and remove the T-mobile apps and tweaks.
One thing I didn't tell them the whole time I was adding my phone to their system was that this was a T-Mobile OnePlus 7t. I just told them it was an unlocked OnePlus 7t I purchased online. This was before I flashed the international software, so nothing on their end flags you as having the T-Mobile version unless you tell them. Not sure if they would deny you or use that as a reason to send you on the way otherwise.

I don't recall if it worked while I was still on the T-Mobile firmware, but visual voicemail works fine with the international firmware.

Do you think this is still possible. I bought a hd1907 T-Mobile and it's on way, had the store give me the IMEI so I could activate before it got here. Website says incompatible. Messaged them and they said the same thing. Should I just wait and put in my sim then go from there?
So is it possible to use Verizon on the HD1905 dual sim phone just the same as the T mobile model? I actually switched 2 of my lines to AT&T just to be able to own this phone. No texting was the deal breaker for me.
BTW, is anyone getting wifi calling with verizon?

VZW allows wifi calling on Verizon branded 8's, but won't activate wifi calling on the 7 series. The claim is that the 7's could be a network security hazard because they never went through Verizon's testing.
This is Verizon's decision, not OP's.

Thanks, but I would not want an unlock-able VZW branded phone. But thanks for the info. :highfive:
I don't even have Visual Voicemail on my HD1900. I will be switching to the Pixel 5 or the S21 because this and the no wifi calling.
I made the wifi calling sacrifice for a dual sim phone. OTOH, I can always use Google voice for wifi calling if needed.

According to this first hand account, you are SOL. Get the HD1905 and you will be able to use Verizon.

I use the 1905 on verizon, however Google Messages is completely broke.
* No RCS messaging
* Previous iphone users cant SMS me (even with proper deregistration/new convos)
* Messages app cant insert pictures from Google Photos library
* Message app inserts weirdly formatted images sometimes, like converting a jpg to an mpeg4 which cant be opened

Got everything running on it. Will keep you updated if I find something not working besides wifi calling.

Informed Verizon that I needed Cdma-less provisioning and to implement feature # 83856

I am using 2 VZW sims, and Google Messages works just fine on both. No problem with inserting sending or receiving photos from Google Photos or any other source.
I guess most nonVZW phones cant do RCS, exept for the pixel, AFAIK.
I am not sure about, if people with iPhones can text me?
Maybe you have a setting or permission problem.
Start a chat with VZW, they were more than glad to help me get my 7T working.

Dittos on the feature, no messaging without it.
