[Q] SMS stuck. Can't delete. XJ MIUI ROM. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm running XJ's MIUI Rom.
After I installed this rom and restored back all data etc some of my SMS are faulty.
I now have 5 SMS that I can't delete in any way. They are now dated Jan 1 1970. LOL...
Does anyone know a way that might work to delete these SMS that are not delete able?
//Kensy

are you sure they are not locked messages?

Late version of the millennium bug.. ...sorry. couldn't tell you what's wrong.. ..if not a locked message, have you installed a different sms program? Maybe just a reflash is needed?
HTC Desire

The SMS/Thread is NOT locked. Even when I choose to delete it, it does not get deleted.
The SMS that can't be deleted is dated Jan 1, 1970, wierd!
I did a restore with Titanium Backup (Migrated from other ROM).
But can I backup individual SMS and re-flash the ROM and then restore selected SMS?

You could with sms backup + in that it moves all sms to an SMS label in gmail. Then delete the sms "e-mails" from gmail and then restore.
Shouldnt have to reflash the rom. Perhaps just clear data on the messaging app.

Tried all that with no results!
BUT... I did a re-flash of the ROM. Restored and everything OK.
BUT... As soon as I try to delete SMS threads, they all go deleted but remains EMPTY with date Jan 1, 1970 !!!
So, the problem is when I try to delete whole threads. They get stucked.
I can delete SMS in a thread but not the thread itself! Damn...
What to do now?
Edit:
Problems solved!
I made a backup with MIUI backup. Deleted the SMSMMS file in /data/data etc etc.
Then restored SMS with MIUI backup and now it seems to work! yay

Titanium backup + 2.2 Leak = FAIL

I just updated to the leaked Froyo Rom. Before doing so, I backed up using Titanium. Then, once the Rom was installed, I did a restore of "all applications and system settings." But for some reason, all my homescreen settings did not return. For example, on one Homescreen, I had the Touchdown Calendar widget, which has now been replaced by the HTC mail widget.
What happened to my homescreens and all the widgets I had arranged on them? Argh, this is exactly what I didn't want to happen!!!!!
Edit: And it didn't restore any of my SMS messages either!!!! Where is everything?
Edit #2: Also, all of my Stock data, Facebook setup, Twitter setup is all empty. I thought this was all supposed to restore with Titanium. I used "backup all apps and system data" before moving to this ROM.
not a good idea to restore data if you were coming from any 2.1 rom

There is nothing wrong with Titanium, unless you want to argue that it should be programmed with even more features than it already has to prevent you from being able to do what you did. You restored settings and configurations that were from a different system version, and things didn't work right -- no surprise there.
I don't know what you can do about your SMS backups (I have never saved any), but as for the rest you probably need to bite the bullet. Wipe, re-flash the ROM, then set everything up again from scratch and if you are going restore old stuff with TI, stick to apps this time.
Good luck!
Worked great for me...but I only do apps and make sure to unchecked what I don't want

OP = FAIL
You asked about it in the other thread and it was explicitly stated...
You never want to restore system files from one version of a rom to another, it can only create problems.

better to restore one by one, apps should restore fine, but accounts and such that are os specific surely wont work

If I've already lost the data/setup settings, why would I Wipe, re-flash, and set up everything from scratch. It's not like 2.2 is crashing after I did the Titanium restore, I'm just missing my SMSes and my home screen arrangement.

Whatever floats your boat. Personally I wouldn't trust the integrity of the system after doing what you did, and would want to *know* that everything was proper before calling it a day.

For future reference, 'SMS Backup & Restore' is a much better option for backing up your SMS messages. Never rely on Titanium Backup for SMS backups.

I used SMS backup and restore, but for 2nd time since I've had it, I didn't realize the scheduled backups just stopped occurring for no reason. So I lost my SMSes from the past couple weeks. Must be a bug in the program.
use launcherpro home app. it has an option to backup and restore all your icons and homescreen settings (minus widgets due to system limitations)
anytime im wiping and installing, i do a couple things
1. backup apps thru titanium then verify backed up apps
2. backup homescreen and settings thru launcher pro
3. drocap2 all my home screens so i can resetup my widgets
4. nandroid
all 4 items happen everytime, I have little worry about ever losing my settings.

Did you do a nandroid backup like you should do before every single wipe of your phone? No?
Well if you did then you would be able to go into ClockworkMod Recovery -> nandroid -> advanced recovery -> restore data. When you reboot the phone EVERYTHING will be exactly just like you left it on your previous 2.1 installation. I have done this and have not had one single problem. Not one single thing is in a different place then it was when I was using 2.1. All my text messages, call logs, home screen widgets, ect. are there.

I did use Nandroid, but I want to move to 2.2. Is there any way to move to 2.2 without losing the system data? If the answer is "no," I don't understand. What happens when HTC releases the official version, do they expect people to delete all their apps, homescreens, etc every time an update is released?

i used titanium backup for apps+system settings going from skyraider 1.9 to 2.0 and i ran into very small problems like getting my wallpaper to load and being able to restore my adw settings. As far as i can see so far no big deal
i used mybackup pro to back up apps+data then my home screens, sms, dictionary and a few other things. pretty much had my phone exactly the way it was when i had it running 2.1
he's not totally alone
Some slack should be cut for the OP as he's not alone in the widget issue. I have used TB for ages now perfectly ok to swap apps and info from my 2 x10's. But this last time I have ended up with a home screen that has "missing" widgets. The screen space is allocated so I can't replace them but the widget doesn't show or work. I have put this down to the 2 phones not have.g the same home screen layout, but is bloody annoying as now I can't reclaim this space!!

[Q] Restore Voicemail Messages

Flashed TwoPointTwo over the weekend. Did a nandroid backup first, then wiped data. Afterwards, used Titanimum (free version) to restore selected apps.
I found that my saved (and locked) voicemail messages are gone. Is there some way to retrieve/restore them without reverting to the old ROM? If I restore the previous ROM from nandroid, will I find those old messages?
Thanks...

I think.... saved voice mail are not only saved to the phone but also the voice mail server.
They will not show back up in vvm unless you unistall vvm.
Make sure your vm number in settings is your cell number
Then reinstall it.
After the provisioning they will pop back up
This is what I did when i was using cm6.1.1 worked like a charm, hopefuly it helps you

Quick question my Geniuses

I addicted to looking at and trying out new roms but its so annoying that i have to download everything back and all my text are wiped bla bla i think some people might understand.
anyway i can install new themes but when its done loading that all my apps and everything is still the way i left it?
thanks in advance
First of, download and install Titanium Backup or Titanium Backup Pro. With it, you can backup all of your apps and their data. After doing that, go into recovery and make a nandroid backup of your current set up. Doing so will put your device back like it was just in case you don't like the new rom, theme or whatever it is you plan to flash. Afterwards and while in recovery, wipe everything except the SD card then flash your new rom. None of your previous apps should be installed.

^^^^what he said^^^^
you beat me to it, lol
Flattering us won't help.
And well to get your apps back, backup with titanium, restore apps and data, not system settings. And for you second question, it depends on what the app themes, you can always re-do the icon.
And jeeze, I'm the last one in the 7:08, 7:09, 7:10 time reply train.
Also, I just learned about backing up adw desktop settings ...restores all folder and apps where they were when you backed up. Super convienent...use after restoring from titanium backup.
ok so i just got to install titanium backup (which i have already but have never used it) and backup my apps and data as is (does this include my text messages? )
and the difference between titanium and Nandroid backup is the titanium backs up my apps and nan backup takes me back to my last backup was just incase the current rom i installed is not to my liking or faulty? right?
Correct me if im wrong, i can take it
tell you guys the truth i just care about my text's messages being erased. i don't mind installing the apps again.
Download and install SMS backup+ from the market, it's free. Once you set it up (easy) it will back up all your SMS and MMS to your Gmail account. When you load a new rom you can restore all your txts as well. You can set it to back up automatically or manually, your choice. To restore just start the app nd click restore, boom, all sms are loaded back up.
Thanks alot guys i really do appreciate it.
Complimentary BJ's to all
Mybackup pro will do that call logs text msgs and mms

i got a new rom and clicked restore and it restored "0"
and i did back it up all 139 texts.
Did you check your gmail account? It should show all your texts saved to a folder. If it didn't, then you never properly backed them up.
Once you install the new rom, be sure you signed back into your account in the backup app.

[Q] Restoring messages?

Hey,
Today at my first time, I Installed ROM and Kernal and Radio and all this essential crap.
Before I started, I went to HTC Sync software on my PC, and backed up all my files, Calender, People and thou..
But I guess I didn't notice that the SMS messages are not included on the backup list.
So now with my new ROM, when I synced back the files from the HTC Sync, it only bringed me back the Calender, People.. but not the messages,
Witch is pretty important for me, I had alot of important SMSs which I wish to restore.
When I installed the ROM I went through all the steps on the guide including the Wipe thing that I understood it is something backup?
Also I used the google's sync all the time,
Is there any option to get my SMSs from there?
Thank you very much,
Yarden.
As far as I know HTC Sync and Google Sync no backup messages.
You should have previously backup you messages with (for example) Titanium Backup.
If you haven`t Nanodroid Backup previous rom - you can`t restore you messages.
I don't love you..
oh crap. stupid ROM..
and what about the applications?
I see that they also gone,
Can they be restored?
No, apps can`t restore.
Before flash everything, I advise do backup all with TB, nanodroid backup and then flash all that you need.
These actions will help you keep all the data and, if anything, to restore everything as it was.
Good luck.

If you downloaded them through the marketplace they'll automatically download and install when you sign in with your google account on your phone.
sromer, titanium backup does not wipe messages. To backup messages use sms backup+ which is free. If you have a nandroid backup, restore that, backup messages and do your rom thing again.

SMS Backup & Restore would also be a good choice
MyBackup has successfully restored sms, mms etc. for me 10+ times now. definitely worth using. great program!
If you want constant backups I use gosms and only use it yo schedule backups every day at 6, then all is good, but I'm going to start backing up on every text I get

[Q] it wont backup some of the messeges

Hello,
So I use Sms backup+ for backing up sms to GMAIL. But i have 2 messages ( at least) that dont want to be backed up.
I tried SMS BACKUP + , to delete it and install again. No help.
I backup with titanium , but , no show.
I noticed that they didnt show when I flashed new rom. Which I didnt like and I restored NANDROID .
So now I can see them in my messeges app.
This 2 messages I received. But the one I sent to the same contact I can backup.
So how come ?
Thanks In advance
EDIT : I noticed another messages that wont backup. And it suddenly started acting like this couple of days ago. messages from week ago are just fine. And the problem is only with the messages that I receive
Are you trying to restore between ROM series? If you do, then that might be the issue....
Try with this app called SMS Backup & Restore.

I use Sms Backup + . It backs up to GMAIL all my messeges ecery 24 hours.
When I flash a rom I restore the messeges.
When I flashed the rom I noticed some messages where missing. So I thought maybe it didnt performm a backup or something.
But then I had problems with the rom and restored with nandroid that I performed before flashing .
I saw those messages and tried to back up but it wont backup ( wont show on GMAIL and I open the XML file from titanium and didnt find those messeges )
Again all new messeges that I receive it wont back up but the sending messages it does backup :\
Sorry for double, I thought it merges them automatically :|
