Most likely the application won't run unless the Amazon App store is installed. Applications that originate from Amazon's app store tie in with their DRM.

There's no "most likely" about it, it WON'T run without having the AAS installed. As for the previous poster, you REALLY don't already have an amazon account?!

You give google access to every facet of your life including everything personal and private to you but you refuse amazon for sending targeted ads that only access your browsing/buying habits on their website? Hahahahahahahaha
Wake up. I trust amazon more than I do google (well I trust ANYTHING more than I do google actually), and even more than Apple. Amazon is a straight and clear-cut business with no aspirations about your personal/private info. Google does not differentiate between the two. It's all fair game with them.
Amazon as I know it, is a truly ethical, worthy company to invest in. They have earned my trust and money and a spot in my email inbox.

HD ver too
Grab the HD version too in case you ever get a tablet. It will tell you it's not compatible with your device but you can click through that popup just fine. I show as owning both versions in my app list now. (Did this from a PC browser)

Then don't bother with Quick Office. I now have both since they were both free. Wanted to compare the two. Polaris is a far better program. Deleted Quick Office now since I don't need it wasting space.
thanks for info
There was officesuite pro for free a few weeks back. That one couldn't search all sheets in a workbook so I uninstalled it....need that feature for work.

While my little sister and were at the doctor's office, I decided to let her play on my phone. I heard heard the phone buzz alerting that there was a new text message received. My sister told me she had won a $1000 Walmart gift card from the text message. I told her that it's a scam and could possibly be a virus and told her not to open. She decided to anyway... as soon as she clicked on it, it instantly rebooted. Now I'm paranoid that I have a virus on my phone! I already fully wiped it twice and installed a different ROM as well as kernel. Is there anything that could be wrong with my phone now? If so, what could I do to fix it?

You should be fine, but install Lookout Mobile Security from the Play store just to be sure.
I "won" one of those too, but it was for Best Buy, your phone may have restarted due to a memory leak. I know my phone and tablet restarts randomly when I visit a messy page with too much flash content.

I agree, I wouldn't think you have much to worry about. But with security Id still rather be safe than sorry.
Sorry for the shameless self promotion. But my Security app Root Defense was developed on the Epic 4G touch and unlike any other security app out there, it will allow you to continue to track your phone even if it gets wiped or a hard-reset by a thief.
It's almost impossible to lose your phone and it's completely free. You can subscribe if wanted for additional logging goodies.
It requires that you have a rooted phone (as most people have on XDA)
Please try it out and rate and comment on Google Play if you like it.
The Google Play page can be found here:

Yeah, Cerberus was a program created after ours that has many of the same features. Even including the 5 licenses for the price of one.
Root Defense comes with many many more features though and no user interface on the phone.
Basically its still free but with more features and a stealthier install.
Also ours shows the existing data of logs and location from before a phone went missing so you aren't in the dark when your device is off

if this thing actually works for $4 a month being able to monitor a phone discreetly with the options listed, its actually a kick ass deal
i cant get it to work myself though, it locks on hitting reboot on the install process
Can't speak on the app in discussion, never used it. But how can it to Cerberus, one time fee, also survives full wipe... what exactly is so much better that constitutes a monthly fee?

Lets see you or any other complainer make a good security app with all these features and give it out free.. I dont think anyone even read the ops post.. He has a free version and a paid one.. What does it hurt to try it?

compare it to these:

Not emails, but most definitely texts, phone calls, and location. I'm not bashing this, just curious as to the advantages. I was one of the lucky ones who got Cerberus for free when they were doing the giveaway, just was wondering if it was worth... "upgrading"?

Root defense also is free and survives wipes and all the features the $4 a month is only if you wish to keep the logging features. All actually security features are free and always will be.
One of the major differences if the our free edition vs Cerberus is that our free version also keeps track of the last known coordinates.
What this means is that if your phone was stolen or lost and was either turned off or ran out of battery. Our product would show you where it last was and when it was there. Cerberus won't be able to show you anything as it needs to connect to the device each time to read data.
This is true of most fee or one-time fee programs because that's how they can afford it. In order to be helpful to people off-line, you need to store the data in a database which will quickly incur cost to developers (especially storing MMS messages.)
Anyway, different stroke for different folks. But keep in mind that after the trial ends, you still have (any always will have) all the free version features.
New version just released, check our main thread for details.

Version 3.1 released!
Change log includes:
* Fix for calls not being recorded bug
* Fix for auto-update can cause auto-uninstall of itself.
* Fix for phones not attaching after install
To ensure your auto-updater is working probably and you weren't affected by the auto-uninstall of program from update bug, please download the latest version from our first post or directly from the market.

Don't waste the battery and cpu cycles on something that quite frankly is borderline worthless. The trust thing is ironic. You will trust an app you didnt write to protect you from other apps you didnt write

Avast for lost/stolen device tracking, allows device disable if the SIM is changed. Also allows you to lock, unlock, wipe, sound alarm by SMS. Hopefully I never need to use it.
From what i understand any perceived need for antivirus/malware scanning will disappear with 4.2 and the new Play Store.

For lost/stolen I've been loving SeekDroid for a while now. Very nice app and works with out fail any time I test it.

That's a good app I used to use it but it gets owned by cerberus. Try that it has way more features for a one time 3.99 fee. U can test free for a week.

+1 for seekdroid. Got it for free from Amazon a while ago but have found that its pretty good. Haven't had to 'test' it for real just yet but gives me a bit of piece of mind.
Reality is that if your phone is stolen, likelihood of getting it back is pretty slim. For me, real important part would be able to wipe my data to protect myself from anything more than losing a couple hundred bucks on a device.
None, I don't believe in them. If my phone gets lost or stolen then that's that, little can be done afterwards. Police often times wont help and knocking on the persons door and demanding the phone will get you nowhere except property trespassing. Even then, I doubt my offender would want to use any of my information stored on my phone. Any smart thief would know to wipe the phone clean to avoid any of these apps which don't do much. As far a viruses go, really? The only reason anti-virus apps where made was to satisfy the needs of the paranoid, lets leave it at that.
I was mainly speaking of anti theft app, and not to get the phone back, but yes to wipe everything!

cerebus. it's great. went to the washroom and left my phone in my meeting room. i come back and check my email and there's a photo of my co-worker trying to punch in the wrong PIN code. lol.
I dont have one installed right now, but when I do it's Lookout. I have had lookout stop installation for an app before, I was sideloading it. I dont keep one installed for normal use of the phone and Play Store, but if I was going to be sideloading apps again I would use it for that.
Cerberus is by far the best security app I've used.

I like the retail note 4. The screen is fabulous and its fast. However I cannot get by being inundated by the advertisments. Some are full page when I open aps and others flash at the top or bottom of the screen. Very distracting.
Is there an ap or a way to eliminate or at least remove most of the ads. Please be specific. I have gone back to my rooted, unlocked note 2. Will return the 4 if I cannot resolve this issue on the retail 4.
Unfortunitly I do not want to spend 700 for a DE note4. Thanks

I have a 180 day free trial code for the Pro version that I haven't activated yet so if someone wants it let me know.
until there is Root, there's not much you can do about it. Adblock Plus works if you're on wifi, but I noticed that it sucks more battery power and makes the phone run hotter than usual.
My solution was to sell my Retail note 4 (since with all the rebates, I only paid $100 for it), and buy a DE Note 4.

A cheaper (temporary) solution would be to use your apps in 'Airplane Mode,' assuming it is not too much of an inconvenience :good:
I usually do this when there is no paid version for an app/game :3
In hindsight I guess that it's pretty obvious lol but I'm going to leave it here anyways

I posted a link to it up a few posts, I was using it before I got my DE and it works, I did not notice any increase in battery usage either.
I still have a 180 day trial code for the Pro version if someone wants it.
I made thread covering adguard and works great. Developer even jumped in thread to explain. It creates it's own vpn.Only way to block ads on a unrooted device. Adblock will only work on WiFi without root. AdGuard works on both WiFi & Cellular!

Got to admit it, Adgaurd is working awesome. I activated the the pro trial version and it's blocking everything MOAAB or Jrummys ad blocker did. Ads and themes are the main reasons I root. No I just need a dark them and I'm set. I'll probably end up getting the one year license if we don't get root soon.
