I would really like to run a stock phone with Gingerbread, without rooting or modding. I use my phone often for Netflix, and would love to watch Hulu+ as well. If I can force myself to give up my qwerty keyboard, I would like to know what phone would be worth switching to from the Epic and why you would recommend said phone. Thanks.

You should ask this in the android q and a. Asking here is just an insult.
That being said, go for the nexus s/prime

Asking in Android Q & A would hardly give me the insight of past or current Epic 4G users. That's why I posted here. I apologize if you were insulted, didn't realize I would encounter thin-skinned users here. While you lick your wounds, I'll continue searching for useful information. Good day.
I have an ET4G, Nexus and Epic on my lines. PM me and I will answer any questions. I will say that the Epic holds its own and is superior in certain areas

Dude, there are literally ass tons of threads in the t989 android development forum on ridiculously easy root methods please use the search feature instead of clogging forums up with questions like these.
Galaxy s2 is much easier to root than evo3d which i also owned previously due to the fact that Samsung phones do not have a locked boot loader like HTC phones.

one click root , means one click u can get any easier then that!
I'm coming from HTC phones and, really, they're generally quite easy to root once it's all figured out. What I like about them is that they include Mac and Linux users, too. Despite searching, I could only find rooting methods for Windows on this phone. I feel like us Unix users are left out here

Hi all, I hope this is not the wrong forum to post in but here goes...
I just want to say thank you to everyone here at XDA. I have been creeping the forums for my epic 4g for the past year. I have tried many different roms and mods and had a lot of fun with it. I also got myself in quite a few binds and by using the search function i have managed to get myself out of them all.
Last night I got an epic 4g touch and I love it. First thing I did was come to XDA and see what was available for it. I flashed Syndicated ice and its great.
So in closing I probably wont post much after this but I just felt like everyone here needed a big thanks from me, so thanks!

Hi guys.
This is my first post and i was doing a little research and couldn't find much of an answer....
My question is.... Does the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch for Sprint have the hardware to be compatible with the new 4G LTE updates that Sprint is doing to their network? I am in Dallas and I should be one of the first to benefit from this network upgrade.
I was told "No" by some.
By others (Sprint Store, Franchise) I was told "Yes, no problem at all. We will do an OTA and you might have to come in to the store to apply some changes but its definitely possible"....
My problem is that i don't know who to trust.
I do NOT want to have to upgrade my phone again to benefit from the 4G LTE upgrade. That's just retarded.
I need someone that has the hardware specifications (and the technical background) to provide a no nonsense answer as to whether or not an OTA update will "Unlock" LTE capabilities on this phone, if the capability exists at all.
Not to be an ass, but i don't want speculations or opinions.
I need a straight-forward and logical answer.
Does this phone have the hardware in it to be 4G LTE compatible or not.
Thanks in advance!!!

What I don't get is most of these people who ask questions about the touch are using a desktop/laptop non mobile so they see what the phone looks like on side of forum they can't be that blind, I swear they do it on purpose. But even if they missed that it still doesn't say "touch" so confusion is not an acceptable answer for an excuse IMHO.

Not sure if you're referring to me or not but I'm as chill as they come. I'm a little tired of seeing peeps asking questions about the Epic Touch when it has it's own forum. So sorry for sounding like an ass but it really gets old when you see the same types of posts. People really need to pay attention.

To be fair I think it is pretty well established that there is no shortage of og epic users with an inability to read. Luckily for the people in the touch forums there was probably only one phone called the epic 4g when our non readers started on xda so it is us who get the confused touch folks rather than them who get confused keyboard folk...

I'm sorry but ya'lls ability to get so frustrated so EASILY is amazing and funny to me, sometimes...
If you've noticed, i am a brand new user and that was literally my first post.
I tried to post another topic stating "Hey, my bad, this is new to me phone and I just joined the forum." but i had to wait 15 minutes to post another, because that's what happens on your first couple of posts when your a member that literally just joined.
Instead of replying to ignorance, I decided to use the post, after the 15 minute wait, on a thread that wasn't going to most likely be giving complete BS answers that have nothing to do with the subject.
BUT...
Since you would like to flame and get all red faced over a stupid "He posted in OUR section" issue.... Then obviously you've got some personal things you need to work on. How to deal with people, along with your inability to shrink your head. Because it looks to me like your suffering from "Big Headedness." And i mean every single bit as constructive criticism.
I want a world filled with peace and helpfulness. Like a fairy tale book.
You guys have a good weekend, life, or day. Whichever applies.

When theirs a picture of our phone with a slider and you dont what possesses you to think oh thats my forum? when theirs stickies that say NON TOUCH section that should give you the hint "hey maybe this isn't for my phone".
You dont see any of us posting over there because 1st off we can read and see that thats clearly not our phone. 2nd off taking the few extra seconds to make sure would actually help just like i make sure im in the right Nexus S forum.
since the op only has 2 posts, i take it he never found the correct forum?

This topic has been discussed before, with our epic's too. Apparently sprint is saying that our 4g radio will be able to run on the lte network with a firmware update. So, even if he DID post in the wrong forum, there's no need to flame because its applicable to our devices also.
(I'm not meaning to single you out kenny lol)

I hope that is the case, if labled with the right tag, we will only need to focus on that when looking at topics. I for one want to focus on all Sprint related topics/questions first, and if I have time help the rest of the SGS3 owners. Don't forget ...
Don't forget (Americans often do) that there's also Rogers, Bell, and Telus, not to mention a few more in Canada.
Rogers, Bell and Telus use the AT&T I747. I'm not sure about Virgin, Mobilicity, etc.
Peter
Addendum: I really should say that Rogers, Bell and Telus use the I747, which AT&T also uses. I really don't like saying it's an AT&T I747, because it's not.
Personally, I will try and use [I747] on all my posts.

There's advantages to both ways. But I'm not sure that the average user base will be able to take advantage of this setup and NOT cause a cluster#$%@. Not to mention the tendency to repeat previously asked questions... with four times as many carriers.

XDA is about hacking devices, not discussing carriers. Don't forget that.
Go to a carrier-related forum if you want that.
I, for one, see this as a good change. Speaking as an engineer/developer.
Already we have 2 Off-Topic threads discussing this change. Don't complain about off-topic threads when you post in them.
This is good for me, since I'm kinda sad that I'm leaving my OG Epic bretheren from sprint to head to Bid Red..

Not really a good change, a step in the right direction, yes. But I for one only want to see Sprint related general/off topic posts when I come into the SGS3 general forum. That's why I ask for the tags. I mean that is a system in its self that needs to be used here ( I would love to see that happen). I'm just saying that makes it so much easier when scanning, and when you don't want to have to subscribe to all the Sprint related topics just to keep up with what your trying to focus on is ridiculous if you ask me.

Okay, so other than:
1. *****ing about poor coverage.
2. *****ing about LTE roll-out.
3. *****ing about bundled apps.
4. *****ing about insurance/TEP.
What else possibly belongs in the General section that's Sprint-specific?
XDA has an off-topic section. Go there if you want to talk about whatever. It's about time these forums get back to device/development. This place has been taken over by whiny 14 year olds for too long.

Tho we wouldn't have to if we had separate forums. I know in the past there were several that would cross platforms from international version to US versions and that was great, but I think it's a bit confusing to do it like this and if you're going to label every thread with a carrier anyway, why not just have it's own forum??
It is what it is I guess.
