[Q] An carrier unlocking question prior to picking up an arc - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Evening
I've spent a few hours searching now but i can't find anything specific to my question.
i've been offered an arc in trade for my desire z. I really like the look of it but the issue I have is that it is a carrier locked model on the three network.
I figure the sim unlocking of the device is simple enough in a local shop or something. However, i then stumbled on a few posts that state the carrier locked versions can't have their bootloader unlocked. is this true?
I guess i'm looking for a little confirmation prior to committing to a decision either way really.
thanks in advance

I'd really like to know, who I have to contact for this ota. I have the Rogers Canada variant (lt15a), and every time I pay for the unlock code it returns not found.

Generic imei on 9250 or DoCoMo only?

Ok. So this should be a quick answer for someone.
I understand that people are wary of the DoCoMo version of the nexus. This stems from the unlocked Sim issues. Personally, I didn't experience the issue with the generic imei, and had a permanent unlocked Sim. However I sent the phone back solely to get the 9250 I ordered, thinking of future resale reasons.
My question is....is the generic imei issue only on the Docomo? I don't really want a generic imei (yes I know it can be changed back). The point is that I'll be upset if I sent back a perfectly working Docomo with the unique imei for a 9250 that ends up having a generic one.
Thanks in advance.

Come on guys...you are telling me that no one has even read this and it had been up for over 40 minutes?

Well you don't have to do anything tricky to the i9250 because its already unlocked so no, theres no generic IMEI problem... the generic IMEI happens when you unlock the SC-04D model.

Thank you. Guess I didn't realize that the 9250 are all unlocked from the get go. Was thinking someone had to unlock them.
I do appreciate the answer.

No problem. Yes they're factory unlocked, as nearly all Nexus' are.

Samsung Galaxy S III sgh-t999v unlock

Hello
I've been searching this forums for the past two hours searching for a clear answer to my question but I haven't found anything accurate.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III sgh-t999v bought from Wind in Canada and I have know left the country for Europe.
when I bought the phone I was told that it was unlocked but when I try using my new sim it keeps telling me I need an unlock code.
What I would like to know is if my phone can be unlocked to be used here in Europe without the unlock code?
Does flashing/rooting my phone makes it unlocked?
I appreciate any help/answers to my problem.
Thank you guys.

No. Rooting your phone does not gsm unlock it. Either call your carrier and ask for the unlock code .. or pay online for one.

Like crisis stated just call your carrier and ask for an unlock code... Your account has to be in good state I believe. Or else pay.

either get teh code from AT&T (if you're a customer) or pay $25 for it at one of the unlock code sites. there are no 'free' options outside of the carrier.
To get the code from ATT, dont you have to pay the full price of the phone though? Also, if you do the 25$ unlock code thingy, does the unlock stay forever (even if I do an update or change ROM's)?

No, I got my code from At&t after owning my device for 40 something days through upgrade and unlock stays forever ...even when OTA or ROM changing.

Unlocked by Alejandrissimo, sometime in April 2012. About one day after I received my Play after using my brother's VZW upgrade and not ever activate it. Yeah, he wasn't happy.
Unlocked R800X via alejandrissimo about 2 or 3 weeks ago, he had a $15 special going on so I manned up & did it!
I've got an unlocked r800x...done by alejandrissimo back in April.
Is it worth voiding the Warranty with Sony to unlock the BL? Verizon is probably out due to being rooted, but verizon sucks anyways lol.
I know with an unlocked BL we can.use different kernels/roms, and overclock with certain roms/kernels. But what else can we do with unlocked BLs?

As Verizon users, that's all you can do. If you were a GSM user (Non-Verizon), there's a bit more to it.
As GSM, let's say you're using AT&T, you love your Play, but you hate AT&T and you want to switch to let's say, SIMple Mobile. You could terminate your AT&T service and signup for SIMple Mobile, once you do that, just buy a SIM card from them, and you could install that on the PLAY you already own and you'll be using your play on the new service you subscribed to. That's not possible on Verizon phones because they don't use SIM cards.
When I'm on my own after college, I'm probably going to buy a GSM Android phone on eBay or something for cheap, then go for SIMple mobile and get one of their SIM cards, since it's only 40$ a month for a single user.

Oh really? What other CDMA networks are there? I'm wondering what I should do once I'm on my own after college, Verizon is ridiculously expensive, that's why. I can't believe my parent's are spending so much money on Verizon.
EDIT: I assume that all it takes is a new APN after subscribing? This will take place 4 years from now but I'd be nice to know how instead of forgetting. I've known about SIMple Mobile since they launched.
EDIT2: I just looked it up, wow... I must have been way too focused on GSM!! I might just stay on the Play until XDA development dies completely for it. I guess I'll be keeping my eye on Revol Wireless. My parents said they're done paying for my cell once I graduate from College. I don't know Verizon's plans, but I think my mom said that it $80 for her alone. Until I start raising a family down the road of time, I think $45/m is plenty. XD
Got mine unlocked in November as soon as I heard that zergRush for had been patched.
Been flashing my phone with new roms ever since like it's going outta style

Unlocked 2x. 1st time was about a mouth after getting it to try cm7. And then again after I overlocked my CPU too much I got a replacement. Turns out bestbuy doesn't care if you unlock your bootloader.
unlocked bootloader here, best 24 bucks I ever spent.

Same here for me. I held out until the official word came down that ICS wouldn't be happening.

[Q] Unlocking options for T999

Looking for ways to unlock T999. Got the device for app testing purposes knowing it is blocked on T-Mobile. Now, to further test certain areas, need the phone unlocked completely. Of course, the findings will be shared on XDA in appropriate threads. So, please suggest any tools/apps/options to unlock this phone.
Calling T-Mobile for unlock code is NOT an option as the seller clearly stated it is blocked on the network and I verified that it is blocked.
Any ideas? (of course, free is first and cheap is second).
Ebay is your only other option at this point.

There are unlockers on eBay that will do it for less than $10.
