[Works] Installing CM7 from leaked 2.3.4 - Defy General

As the name suggests I am trying to install CM7 using leaked build 4.5.3-109(Defy+) as base. (nand+fixed sbf)
I change rom's almost everyday so thought what the heck. Apparently downloaded a game yesterday which apparently doesn't wanna work with the Gingerbread 2.3 build so here goes nothing.
Here are some benefits I see to it.
1.Original 2.3 module/kernel.
2.4th cpu frequency (clk) for Overclocking.
Have you ever tried it!? What build you used as base !?
Leave your experiences below.
Edit: Ok if yer on leaked 2.3.4 ->
1.Open custom recovery
2.Wipe data (yep it will not boot otherwise)
3.Wipe Cache and Dalvik cache
4.Install CM7 and you're good to go!
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk

Yes! It works, no force closes so far completely stable.
Installed latest 2ndinit and the 4th clk seems to be working checked using CPU SPY.
EDIT:
Warning! Do not replace default bootmenu. It worked for me at first boot but after that it doesn't boot at all.

Is there any increase in performance with the gb kernel? Are the touch buttons still bright?

I find it a lot more stable. Speed is no complaint either , its zipping fast. No bright softkeys.

interesting idea, i've always though how could defy+ owners do to get cm7

It works! I tried cm7 rc1.5 on 4.5.3-109 kernel. Im gonna try miui now, it should work too.
Edit: Didnt work on second boot. How do you prevent replacing the default boot menu?

Gj, so red lense or green lense?
Sent from my Defy CM7 using Tapatalk.

I ve tried it on red lens. Maybe someone should try on greenlens with greenbread to see if it works

It really works?
I have the red lens and wanna try on it also ;-)

You don't need Greenbreadmod to make it work on Green lens since CM7 has a camera module built in that supports both SOC or Bayer module.

Can you give me your suggestion which 2.3.x rom to use. I need that battery last as long as on 2.2.2.
I had CM till rc 1.5 but i am really disappointed with battery... too bad.

Battery consumption depends on your Rom rather than what Build you're on. So you can use whatever 2.3.4 rom you may prefer. I'm using 4.5.3-109 as base as mentioned above.
I easily manage 24 hrs (heavy use) or 48 hrs (moderate usage) on CM7 rc1.5.
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk

I tried both cm7rc1.5 and miui on 4.5.3-109 kernel. Both work on first boot only. Then the bootmenu gets replaced and wont boot again. I have to boot for the second time because i need to switch baseband. (India 3g patch doesnt work on cwm4)
My question is how to prevent the bootmenu being replaced? Basically make it work after reboots as well.
Would be really appreciated if someone can think of a workaround
EDIT: I just did the whole thing again and it worked

Are you flashing a fixed sbf after installing CM7/MIUI ?
Or did you install a seperate recovery after updating to CM7?
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk

I restored Walter's defy+ nandroid backup then flashed fixed sbf. Then I rebooted and went to custom recovery and installed cm7 from sd.
Does it work between reboots for you?

Which ROM for me?

Hi all,
I bought my defy last week. It came with 2.2.2.
I hv rooted it and have installed Clockwork Recovery and 2nd Init (the versions adviced by Quarx).
I am all set to flash a custom rom, but dont know which version to install.(RC0 or RC1, + 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 )
I have green lens. (Soc module, NOT BAYER )
I also wish to preserve my downgradability.(just in case if I wud need to seek warranty in future)
I shall be really thankful if someone could give me the direct link to the ROM best suited for me. Bug fixed ROMs shall be appreciated.

Try everything. I prefer cyanogenmod and the latest nightlys but used miui and leaked gigngerbread for a while. If you dont flash leked gingerbread sbf you can always downgrade to stock

Flash the CEE DEBLUR sbf and then CM7 nightly from 0822. People seem to have much success with that one.

Could I get the link to best version of cm7 ??
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
this is the 110822 BOOT179-4 nightly, im using it, and a lot of others, seems to be the best one so far.
Thanks a lot for the link.
By the way, is this nightly better than the RC1 v2 version being provided by Quarx?
Also are there any bugs reported in this version linked by you?
And lastly, will I have to install any post installation fixes ??
Plz do reply quickly, I cant wait to flash GB in my phone
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
i hv cm7 RC1 v2 installed. How shall i upgrade to this nightly?
Shall i install the zip through recovery? Do i need to wipe data/cache before flashing the nightly?
Will this nightly enable full screen recording?

[Q] Best aosp kernel?

What kernel is best for cm7? I'm currently on stock cm7 kernel, I just want a fast and stable kernel for everyday use.

For aosp roms I would personally recommend EViollets latest ManU test kernel 2.0.2
Don't let the fact it is a test kernel put you off, it's very stable, very quick, and good battery life.
Find it here...

(bottom of the second post).
Hope it helps.
How about tiamat and vork?
I prefer Tiamat's. I don't know, it just works better for me compared to ManU. To each his own.
ManU works great. Best for battery for me.
Kudos on using the saying correctly btw. It is "to each his own" not "each to his own" which really annoys me for some reason

Kernels are packaged in flashable zip. So yeah flash it. Do nandbackup as usual. You don't need to wipe unless someone more knowledgeable here says otherwise.

you can use kernel cleanup script, you can fine it in the xda form "ultimate_kernel_cleaning_script_v2_by_lippol94.zip",
flash this first then flash the new kernel zip.
Reboot into recovery.
Wipe dalvik cache.
Flash new kernel.
Reboot.
Done
ManU has always been a great kernel for me, Tiamat constantly rebooted my phone.
Swyped from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
Personally, ManU would be the kernel of choice.
Have yet to be disappointed

Indeed. Won't work with redux 1.2, cm, gingervillain, Miui or dgb though. Different camera drivers you see. So depends on the Rom

I tried several kernels (including stock, tiamat, thalamus etc) but I will have to concur - ManU-HAVS kernel has been great so far and I've been using it for a couple of months now. It's very stable and very battery efficient.

which rom green lenses?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you some advice.
Which rom recommended defy with green lenses?
I tried the white rabbit, but the battery drains quickly.
I hope for your advice.
I'm on this: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm7&device=jordan its a good stable rom. Others you can try are cm9 froyo version by epsylon, maniacs cm7 builds and wiui, these are all smooth and stable, except some games don't work on cm9, however Spiderman does where it didn't on cm7

Question about SBFs

I've had the defy for more than a year, but stopped using it a long time ago. I found it in my drawer and decided to get flashing. So, my question is, if I use a gingerbread(2.3.4 not 2.3.6) SBF, and I flash a rom, say jellybean on that, what would be the difference as compared to a froyo sbf? Will the rom flashed on top of the gingerbread sbf work better?

Yes, I do know that. That's why I said I'm going to use the 2.3.4 sbf not 2.3.6. My question basically was, will there be any noticeable difference GB SBF vs Froyo SBF, since I'm going to flash a custom rom on it? Also, red lens.

I wanted to ask if there's any performance difference Froyo vs Gingerbread SBFS if you're using the same rom, say Quarx's jb, on them.
EDIT: Thanks for the answer, pranks89. Guess it definitely is worth a try then. Also, I acquired a HD2 so I kind of stopped using my Defy. I was going through the dev threads and an awesome jb rom was enough to convince me to give it a second chance. Good to see you here too!

whay dont you say that?
this is my opinion http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29317445&postcount=19
but is about kernels froyo vs GB
There will be no difference if u flash jellybean over froyo or gingerbread sbfs
Its the same
The performance changes with kernels
So if u have a bayer lens defy (not +) MB525, i recommend u to flash an froyo sbf, Flash gb kernel, use defy + jb builds by quarx with defy battery fix

[Q] Turbo Kernel v3.1 bug

i m using this awesome kernel(turbo kernel v3.1 jb)

Might be the fact it's on your second slot. I don't have those issues, so it could be that.
Well, I've actually had a video conversation on Skype on PAC Rom + turbo kernel 3.1 without any issue. Rom is in internal memory(1st slot).

download a new one of the rom(make sure it multiboot aware). and make sure the size of the zip is correct (something u will get a corrupt zip).
u should make a clean install, flash back phoenix vendor ftf. boot up. flash turbo v3.1 kernel back .wipe data, cache, system. and flash the rom again.
because there is no non such issue.

Yeah, I have done that (downloading new roms and the kernel again) and now the Rom (gb or ics any) in the first slot is working. But in the 2nd slot none of the roms worked. I read the multiboot kernel guide also.

First of all I flashed the phoenix vendor ftf file then booted my phone and after successfully booting it to stock gb I shut it off.
Then I have flashed the turbo kernel v3.1 and then went to recovery and wiped data, cache, dalvik cache and flashed the ics Rom (zip already present in sd card) in slot 1. Then rebooted and successfully booted to ics.
Then I again rebooted to recovery and created slot 2 for gb rom with more system & user data space. And wiped data, cache & dalvik cache. And flashed auroraplay rom and restarted BUT ON RESTARTING THE PHONE FREEZES at the boot. I have also waited about 15mins but no luck.
Details -
Recovery - turbo kernel v3.1
Slot 1 - ICS Rom
Slot 2 - GB Rom
SD Card - Class 4
